Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Some Don't Listen--Some Need to Hear
Mark 6:1-13  NLT

1Jesus left that part of the country and returned with his disciples to Nazareth, his hometown. 2The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They asked, "Where did he get all his wisdom and the power to perform such miracles? 3He's just the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us." They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.

4Then Jesus told them, "A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family." 5And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any mighty miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6And he was amazed at their unbelief.

Then Jesus went out from village to village, teaching. 7And he called his twelve disciples together and sent them out two by two, with authority to cast out evil spirits. 8He told them to take nothing with them except a walking stick--no food, no traveler's bag, no money. 9He told them to wear sandals but not to take even an extra coat. 10"When you enter each village, be a guest in only one home," he said. 11"And if a village won't welcome you or listen to you, shake off its dust from your feet as you leave. It is a sign that you have abandoned that village to its fate."

12So the disciples went out, telling all they met to turn from their sins. 13And they cast out many demons and healed many sick people, anointing them with olive oil.

Do you have a clear idea of what God wants you to do?

Jesus was teaching effectively and wisely, but the people of his hometown saw him as only a carpenter.  "He's no better than us--he's just a common laborer." they said.  They were offended that others could be impressed by him and follow him.  They rejected his authority because he was one of their peers.  They thought they knew him, but their preconceived notions about who he was made it impossible for them to accept his message.

Don't let prejudice blind you to truth.  As you learn more about Jesus, try to see him for who he really is.

Marilyn, send the wet stuff down here to Texas...With all the wildfires burning here we could use it! It's up to something like 200,000 acres now. Peace, Ritz.

Nice devotional, Etta Sue.  Thanks.

The snow is gone and rain is back.  Wish we could send some of it your way, Janet.  Buds are showing in the garden and Spring is around the corner.  No complaints!

I couldn't sleep well so have been up since 5 A.M.  Brought Misty in from the garage and she is keeping me company by lying on the bed, beside my computer.  Squeek will be downstairs any minute and wanting her Fancy Feast.  Gets only a tsp. as a morning treat.  Hurt feelings as Misty is only allowed dry food because of her sore mouth.  Ah me!  Squeek gets jealous of her and bops her nose when given a chance.  No peace in the animal kingdom either ::)

Larry, I loaded and used that TV program and much thanks.  Can't get TBN here and it is nice.  Always wanted to watch it and now possible.  You surely do much to make life pleasant for us. <3

Thought this was rather nice:

What a delight to be around
People who have a faith profound!
Letting their joy in Christ be known,
Seldom are they to the doldrums prone. —Hess

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit that's always in season.

Time to go and get things started for the day.  Hope everyone has a Pleasant Day/Evening.

God Bless.

Liz

As Marilyn said, it's raining HEAVILY here.  Sure would like to send some of it to Texas, but the Lord wisely didn't give me such authority.  Actually, I'm just thankful it isn't snow.

Yes AL it is very heavy, So heavy that I was thinking of not going to work, but if  don't work I don't get paid so I have to go anyway. I wish we could send some to Texas, I saw all those fires burning on TV  the last few nights. I saw all the deer running away and that man in his 80's talking about all the cattle and horses being burned up in the fires, homes being lost and lives  being lost.

I feel lots better today, I slept pretty good last night even after I took the  machine off. It keeps on getting condensation in the tubing and I have followed all the directions to get it to stop. So I don't wear the mask  more than a few hours. With asthma I don't need all that  condensation.

More Later

Edit I don't see any temperature in your signature Pat.

Happy Thursday to you all.  I have walked 3 1/4 miles, then went to Pat's and we played beauty shop.  ;)  She colored and cut my hair and I colored hers, so we are ready, hair-wise, anyway, for our Ladies Retreat next week.

When I got home, Abby said she doesn't feel well, and now has gone back to sleep on the couch.  I hope it's a quickly passing thing; she is rarely ever sick.

My ladies will be coming to paint in an hour or so, so I'd best go turn up the heat in the studio.

This is kinda long but I think you will enjoy reading it.

Purple Hats!

In honour of women's history month and in memory of Erma Bombeck who lost her fight with cancer. Here is an angel sent to watch over you.

Pass this on to five women that you want watched over. If you don't know five women to pass this on to, one will do just fine.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER - by Erma Bombeck
(written after she found out she was dying from cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into
holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realised that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love yous." More "I'm sorrys."

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it, live it and never give it back. Stop sweating about the small stuff.

Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what.

Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally. I hope you all have a blessed day.

Beautiful Women's Month

Age 3: She looks at herself and sees a Queen.

Age 8: She looks at herself and sees Cinderella.

Age 15: She looks at herself and sees an Ugly Sister (Mum I can't go to school looking like this!)

Age 20: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly"- but decides she's going out anyway.

Age 30: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" - but decides she doesn't have time to fix it, so she's going out anyway.

Age 40: She looks at herself and sees "clean" and goes out anyway.

Age 50: She looks at herself and sees "I am" and goes wherever she wants to go.

Age 60: She looks at herself and reminds herself of all the people who can't even see themselves in the mirror anymore. Goes out and conquers the world.

Age 70: She looks at herself &sees wisdom, laughter and ability, goes out and enjoys life.

Age 80: Doesn't bother to look Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to have fun with the world.

Send this on to all the women you are grateful to have as friends.

Maybe we should all grab that purple hat earlier. Please send this to five phenomenal women today in celebration of Beautiful Women's Month. If you do, something good will happen: you will boost another woman's self esteem.

Papa John

We took Cornelia to the doctor today. He said things were going fine, no more accumulation of fluid. We don't go back to see him now for three weeks.

She is still very weak and tires easily and she sleeps a lot. But she is eating better and maybe is gaining a little strength.

I noticed as we were making our way to the hospital this morning that spring flowers are everywhere. The grass is green and the sun is warm and things are looking up. I can't believe that it was late in January when Cornelia got sick and here we are in the middle of March.

Ps 19:7-14
7   The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
8   The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
9   The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous.
10   They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.
11   By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
12   Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults.
13   Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.
14   May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. (NIV)

Papa John

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Ruth

It was a sunny cool day today a breeze but not the strong winds of the past couple of days.

Today I did the usual in home duties watered my plants got some of the dust bunnies off the floor then sat and relaxed doing cross stitch.

Oh yes the Robins are back, one was on the front lawn on Sunday.

Loved that Erma Bombeck thing, Marilyn.  She's long been one of my favorites.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

Marilyn, I agree with Al and I just now copied it and e-mailed it to you wife.  There is great wisdom in what Erma had to say.  (Pat--everytime I think of Erma Bomback I also remember back in the early days of SN when we had Teresa Bloomingdale posting.  Remember she had about a dozen children and wrote a series of humorous books about their lives.  She wrote such entertaining postings.)

Pat, I just checked the EasyTV and it says it is being powered by Realplayer.  It really works very well.  I am glad that several others have found this valuable to get TBN and other non-commercial stations.  I haven't had time to check out many of the stations other than in the USA and looked at a couple in Canada.  If any of you see a channel that is particularly good on there I hope you will let us know.

Papa John, it sounds like another big step forward.  I am looking forward to seeing the picture that someone mentioned as being on SN of the side-by-side lift chairs.

Several of you have spoken of the rain you are and have been getting.  I just say a news headline that in Hawaii they have had 108 inches in the last few days.

Ruth, I wonder how many people are being driven away from the church doors by the extremely loud music.

I spend most of my time today continuing to work on my desktop but did get a few other things done.  I went to Calvin Cove and played for and sang with the older adults in the day care center.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional.

Marilyn

Larry and Al I am glad you like the Erma Bombeck piece. I too liked it very much that is why I posted it here.

Janet

I liked the Erma Bombeck thing, too, Marilyn, read it in the email.  Actually, I have read it numerous times, but always forget some of it, so it's good to read again.

My painters all cancelled out on me today, which was all right, as Abby wasn't feeling well and wanted some "cuddle time."  I enjoyed it as much as she did.  Then she started feeling better, so we got some cleaning done.

The money came today from the stocks we sold; so we will be driving back to Amarillo tomorrow to get Beth's Van.  I hope it will make our lives easier.  Sure is a lot of money to spend on a vehicle!  :-\

Abby and I went tonight to help clean the church.  She and one of the pastor's daughters got the job of sorting all the toys in the nursery and throwing away all the broken or incomplete ones.  There were just too many in there.  I did a lot of vacuuming, and primed the wood trim for the newly remodeled bathroom.  There was a pretty good turnout of people helping, which was so nice.

Larry, I wish I could see and hear you play and sing.  Having musical talent is such a blessing.

I will have two teenaged grandsons here for 9 days, starting tomorrow night.  Bet they will keep us busy.  :)
