JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

The Blind Soldiers

The wise person sees, while the fool is blind (Ecclesiastes 2:14, NLT).

Dear friends:

Perhaps you have heard the tale of a wise old man who lived in a small, war-torn city during World War II. It was common knowledge among the villagers that this man owned some of the rarest coins in all the world.

He feared the invasion of the enemy soldiers so much that he gathered up all his valuable coins, poured them into a small sack, and strategically hid them in his house.

The dreaded day came. Hostile soldiers stormed his quiet home. They held his family at gunpoint and proceeded to search every nook and cranny in the building, hoping to make off with the contraband.

For hours, they examined every conceivable spot, expecting to find the coins locked in a safe, or in a closet, or behind a false wall, perhaps in the attic. But they found nothing.

Frustrated, the soldiers left, never to return.

The clever man had placed the coins where no one would suspect. He positioned them out in the open, clearly seen on the workbench in the basement.

As Christians, we often overlook or not recognize God's richest rewards, which are right before our eyes, yet we cannot see them. We are blinded by the obvious, often what we may take for granted.

It may be our spouse, our children, our home, our church, our job, our health, or a million other ways God may bless us. Because we have these things, we may begin to think we "deserve" them, and that they are a normal part of life, forgetting that many others do not have them.

We also fail to see the spiritually needy men and women right before our eyes -- people who walk in off our streets and into our church buildings. They sit in our pews every Sunday. And too often, we fail to reach out and share the love of Jesus Christ.

Let us not be like those blind soldiers and overlook the obvious, but let us always look for the hand of God's blessings in all that we do, always thanking and praising Him, and let us look for those needy ones who may be sitting right next to us in church, or living next door.

Yours for helping to fulfill the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

Good Morning/evening everyone.

Thank you for the devotional Janet.  I was talking to Pat today and she is hoping the problem with her computer is fixed soon,

We have a scary thing going on outside right now.  A friend took Dana our dog out to do her jobbies and the dog went nutz barking,  The neighborhood dog was barking as well.  Our friend heard a deep low rumble of a growl not far from the house.  I am wondering as is Melaura if is was a wolf.  With Dana in heat it is possible.  Also where we live we know there are wolves in the bush which is not far from us.  That was a little bit of excitement for the night.  We will have to keep a close eye on our pets till we know for sure.

Tonorrow is the Lords Day and as mom would say Saturday nught spoils His day.  So I am off to bed

Love to all

Pastoral Ministry: Public Reading of Scripture
Til I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
--1 Timothy 4:13
Of course we of this generation cannot know by firsthand experience
how the Word of God was read in other times. But it would be hard to
conceive of our fathers having done a poorer job than we do when it
comes to the public reading of the Scriptures. Most of us read the
Scriptures so badly that a good performance draws attention by its
rarity.

It could be argued that since everyone these days owns his own copy
of the Scriptures, the need for the public reading of the Word is
not as great as formerly. If that is true, then let us not bother
to read the Scriptures at all in our churches. But if we are going
to read the Word publicly, then it is incumbent upon us to read it
well. A mumbled, badly articulated and unintelligent reading of the
Sacred Scriptures will do more than we think to give the listeners
the idea that the Word is not important....

We should by all means read it, and we should make the reading a
memorable experience for those who hear.  The Next Chapter After
the Last, 27.
"Lord, as I read the Scriptures publicly, I am both declaring the
very Word of God Himself and drawing people into an experience of
worship. Help me never to take that lightly or address it
carelessly. Amen."

Janet - thank you for that.  I think it's one of Mr. Bright's best.  And thank you, too, Chris & Margit.  I surely do believe in the purblic reading of Scripture and believe that there should be more of it.  And reading it well can indeed go a long way toward expounding it.  In fact, sometimes, if it is read well, no further word about it is needed.  Oh may His Word be blessed in our hearts today!

Good morning!  I'm just checking to see if all is well here, and now that I see it is, I must hurry and get dressed for church, get the boys up and fed, etc.  They will be leaving this afternoon.  :(  But it has been wonderful to have them here.

Thanks, Judy, for the word from Pat.  Tell her if she needs me to, I will post more NEMs for her.

Now I am outa here!

I have a question for all y-all today.

How do you feel about standing for the reading of the Word? Do you feel you should stand out of respect for The Word?

As for myself I feel that standing for the reading is  showing the utmost respect for our Lord and His Word. Although they do not do that in the church that I am going to now, we did in the Churches I attended  when I lived in Lucerne Valley.

Great devotional this morning Janet.

WE should make this our prayer daily.

Must get ready for church now.

I will be back later

Hi everyone.  Just a minute before we leave for church.  Our houseguests just left to attend the church of a good friend a few miles away from here.  They will be back early this afternoon and are staying until Tuesday morning.

Marilyn, I don't believe we show disrespect when we read the Scriptures sitting down.  In our church we sit to read and pray and we stand to sing.  I believe it is attitude not our physical posture that shows the respect.

Janet, thanks for the devotional this morning.

Hope everyone has a good day.  It is time to leave.

Yes Larry, I agree that the heart's attitude is the one that matters,
the Jews in particular hold the scriptures in such reverence that they will not even touch the scrolls with the bare hand as they are read, instead they use a silver pointer, bibliolatry is strong there but salvation through Christ is missing, so we must be careful not to be too legalistic, but I agree Marilyn that the word of God should be reverenced and stored in the heart and mulled over, but standing?
Well it makes no difference to most believers.
I do see where you are coming from, but personally it makes no difference, we can be up and down like jack-in-the boxes too much anyway in some churches. :)
My knees hurt  lol.

Doug Stringer from Daystar Television was at out service today...He brought a really good word about makeing yourself attractive to God. He expounded on four things:

#1 Holiness
#2 Honor
#3 Humility
#4 Honesty

It's too much to elaborate on in a post... but it was GOOD! I hope everyone's services went as well if not better! Peace, Ritz.

Pat

Hello Everyone...

How lovely to come to New Every Morning today and read all of your posts.  It's great to see your ideas on how we show reverence and appreciate our Heavenly Father.  He sure is a wonderful Friend that sticketh closer than a brother--and I've sure appreciated Him more than ever.

Thanks Al and Janet for doing the New Every Morning openings when I've been unable to these last few days.

Just a big...

WELCOME BACK PAT!!!!!

Marilyn - I think our Lord is pleased when we stand for his Word - if our hearts are purposing to be reveerent in that way.  The same could be said for sitting - if He could see that our hearts meant it as reverence.  He sees the heart.  It's the same with raising of hands - it's the heart meaning that counts.

Janet

I am having a hard time with my computer, the mouse (curser) keeps sticking, and I have to reboot as many as 5 or 6 times.  Frustrating!

I agree that it is the attitude of the heart and not the position of the body that matters to the Lord, whether it be while we are praying or reading the Word.  Personally, I like to walk and pray, it seems to help me keep my mind and heart in the prayer, and also not fall asleep!  ;)

We had awesome services both this morning and tonight.  My youngest grandson made a decision for the Lord this morning, and this grandma's heart is so filled with joy because of that!  How I praise His mighty Name!

Beth just called me to come help her get into bed.  :'(  I do not know what is going to happen to that poor girl.  Those legs and feet of hers just will not obey her.  It is really hard on both of us, some days more than others.  It was all I could do to get her into bed, she is as stiff as a plank.  She really needs a lower bed; we have this one cranked as far down as it will go and it's still too high.

My boys are home by now.....I just saw Mark log onto MSN, so I know they arrived in Salina safely.  I got to see Curtis today, too.  :)  And Abby!  So that was five of them today!  I'm a blessed grandma. 8)

I need to get to bed, it's been a busy week.  See you folks tomorrow!

Pat, it's wonderful to see you back on here!

Hi Pat I hope your prob is sorted out.  Tried calling about 9:30.  Will call tomorrow afternoon.

Our intern pastor spoke in church today.  He was talking about the 13 - 20 age group  He has researched the numbers and told in that in the USA there are about  4% of our youth who are going to follow our Lord.  It was quite revealing.

I am tired tonight.  had lunch at a dear friends.  They are such great people.  We take hotdogs and feed the entire troup.  They have 3 kids all Kassie's age and younger.  They are in the process of building a new house.  I went in to see how much is done and they are sure making headway.  There is painting this week, Pat you remember the days of painting your place and ours?  I don't envy them at all. but it will be a good home for them, all the kids will have their own room.

Gord I was talking to Jim on Friday too.  We are going to see them on the weekend of the 8th.  I am looking forward to that.

Well I am off to bed God bless everyone
Judy
