Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

An Unusual Lighthouse

Yes we have a lighthouse on a canal fifty miles in from the coast, this is between Worsley and Eccles where Eccles cakes come from, it was a mile walk along the canal towpath from where I got off the bus, I've been meaning to visit ever since I saw pictures of it. Its obviously not a working lighthouse, just something that someone has erected next to their bungalow, where it originated from I'll have to find out, but it looks like its a study or something, neat place.

A couple of interesting boats adjacent to the lighthouse, the blue was attractive, shame its so neglected.

This one had a pretty prow, was casting some lovely reflections in the canal waters.

Bit further along the canal were some anglers, out on a bitterly cold day, the fish in the canal certainly of an edible variety, I think a case of a little peace and relaxation, wrapped up hopefully warm, I did set out to photograph round here, I returned back to Darwen by catching the bus into Eccles from the bridge crossing over the canal, if I'd known, I'd have got off there when I came out from Bolton. From Eccles I got on the tram with my bus pass and went into Piccadilly in Manchester, crossed over and caught the tram up to Bury, Rawtenstall, Accrington and home.

What would they catch in the canal?  I am thinking catfish.

The lighthouse looks like it is adjacent to the canal, making it an appropriate place for a lighthouse to be.  I would love something like that as a study/library.

I have enjoyed your journey.  Pat and I would love to sit with you and have a hot pot of tea and some Eccles cakes!  Boy does that bring back memories for me!

Well taken again!

Its a kind of folly, probably functioned as a lighthouse sometime, but on a canal there is no need for such things, probably is a study and library up there, yes I think tea and cakes would be most enjoyable up there, especially on a cold winter afternoon.

JudyB

This has evoked such wonderful memories.

And intriguing sight and I agree it would be a wonderful study/office/library.  A great place to "get away" for a couple of hours.

I can't join in the memories, but I'd sure enjoy sitting with all of you for tea and Eccles cakes (whatever they are  ;D ).

Jeanne they are a fruit loaded pastry.  Usually currants, with coarse sugar on top.  They are soooo good.

Here is a commentary, picture as well as the recipe.
