Matt 5:3. Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Each verse lead us into progressive growth in Christ. This is where we start.
Blessed( one have the charteristic of God) is the poor the spirit. When we think of being poor we think of someone who does without the things they need. But to be poor the spirit is when we come to the realization that we can't save ourselves. It says "in spirit" so it is an inward action on the part of a lost person. The promise is "theirs is the kingdom of heaven". Salvation is the beginning and our promise is we inherit the kingdom of God.
Living_light0 - I think of the old song, "I've got plenty of nothin', and nothin's got plenty of me." That's where we have to start, isn't it? We have to admit we aren't fit to fellowship with the Almighty, thrice holy God - that we've blown it completely. Not only are we not fitting, but we are actually aborrent! But, "blessed are the poor in spirit" (those who admit it), because theirs is the kingdom of God. When we admit we can't be our own king, then we get His kingdom over us. We come into His holy realm, His blessed kingdom! Then, after that, we can be ruled by Him, and our present as well as our eternal future is secure! Blessed is right!!
The only thing is - now we need more of that "blessedness!" Oh King eternal, reign over me! Amen and amen! Oh how I need more of that blessedness, more of that reigning! Oh I need Thee, every hour I need Thee! Bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee!
Amen, to my brother Al's prayer Lord Jesus
