Title: Friend Lost a Love One: How can you be there?
Post by: 3739 on December 16, 2010, 10:35:05 AM
Hello, my friend just lost his dad. I wanted to know what I must need to know on how to support my friend. How would you approach a person who recently lost someone. Some things to avoid etc.

Can you guys share please?

Many times there is nothing you CAN say.  Just let her know you are there for her.  Lots of hugs when needed and just "being there"  If she has a family then help with meals or organize the chrch or neighbours to prepare meals for the family.  Pray that our Father will put His words in your mouth when it is appropriate.  If you have had a family member die, then you can let her know you understand.  If not that is a phrase to avoid..

Judy said it perfect.

Usually, I can't seem to find words so I just "am there" with hugs and a heart full of love and prayers for the ones who are hurting.

Thankfully, Our Heavenly Father, knows just what to do...

Just be there for the person and let them know "you're available..

I agree with Judy and Joyce.

My thoughts would be the same.  Just knowing that you are caring for them and that you are there when they want to chat, is wonderful for the grieving person.
