Some people here will probably recall the song "This Ole House", which was a smash hit for Rosemary Clooney in 1954, and has since been recorded by dozens of other artists.
The story behind the song is quite interesting, and I thought everyone here would enjoy hearing it. The songwriter, Stuart Hamblen, was apparently quite popular as a "singing cowboy" at one time, and later became a Christian singer and songwriter.
I stumbled across this video on YouTube today with him explaining how he came up with the song, and actually prefer his version of this song to Rosemary's. I believe I've actually heard his version before, but I have no clue where.
Enjoy!
Thanks, Michael. Of course I date myself by saying I remember it well. :D
I remember it being a favourite of mine; way back when... ;D
I really like this rendition, knowing the story that inspired it.
Oh, how wonderful of you to post this.
I am enjoying it very much.
We are oldsters....not saying we are old though. I remember......
Was in the grocery store and was singing along with an ABBA song.....really dated myself!
