How are we doing with our "Read The Bible Through in a Year" program?


RBC~Radio Bible Class
On the Radio Bible Class site, is a system for reading through the Bible in one year and the portion to be read can be made a clickable link and you can read along while you listen to the portion being read.

We started the New Year with our readings and now, we'd love to know how you've been doing!  Feel free to comment about any verses that you read.  I'm sure that some of us will be able to comment also.

Today's Reading:

April 9

I am reading from front to back in the bible. tomorrow I start 1 Samuel 21. Although I have already finished Job,Psalms and Proverbs.

Cornelia and I continue to read out loud every night.  So far we have not missed a day reading.  We are now up to the 20th chapter of I Kings.

Papa John, I've got behind.  I'm going to try and make up my lost days though.

I have been following the RBC plan and am up to todays reading, which is 2 Kings 15 thru 17.  I continue to listen while I read along.  We usually have 3 Chapters and on some days 4 Chapters per day.  I am so glad we started this at the beginning of the year.

I finished 1 Samuel today. Both books of Samuel are among my favorites. They are tell of the awesome poweer of God and show us the consequences of falling away the way the Israelites did .

I am reading the Bible through by using the subject plan.  A different subject each day of the week.  

Sunday is The Law
Monday is History
Tuesday is Psalms
Wednesday is Poetry
Thursday is Prophecy
Friday is Gospels
Saturday is Epistles

While this is varied, and reading all scripture is good, it is hard for me to pick up where I left off a week later.  Guess I am too old to remember that well anymore.  

Next year I want to use the plan where you read portions in both Testaments each day.  I read early in the morning after I put the coffeepot on.  That works best for me, I am clearer then.  And it is usually a couple of hours before hubby gets up.

I had thought about doing the subject plan back in January but then chose this one.  But sometimes I go to the Subject plan for extra reading some days during the week.

There are two errors though.   They did not have 2 Peter, and they did not have Deuteronomy after the 24th chapter.
I fixed it on my printout that I use each day.  And I had it fixed on my Word Document.  But when I brought it up just now when testing this URL, it apparently changed my Word Document back to the original !

It is strange but our reading for today is exactly the same as yours.  We developed our own plan.  Every night we read.  I will read a chapter and then Cornelia will read a chapter etc.  We look forward to it each day.

Janice, I did some searching and found the "subject" plan on Michael Coley's own personal site and it seems to be complete.

I think I'll put it in a new topic in here.  You can also print it out in Adobe from that site.

I've been reading the Subject Plan since the first of the year.  I printed out the schedule and keep it in my Bible.  I have been doing this reading in the Message, but often will follow it up by reading the same portion in the NIV.  When I first awake I fix a cup of tea, get my books and Bibles and settle down on the couch (I usually sleep there at night, too) to read and pray and look out the window at the morning arriving in my little corner of the world.  I always marvel at God's handiwork and it is indeed new every morning!

Cornelia and I continue to read every night before we go to bed.  We are about two thirds through the book of Job.

I just finished Esther today, and since I read Job, Psalms and Proverbs at the beginning along  with Genesis and Exodus in January and Feburary, I will now be starting Eccl. however I am going to go through Proverbs again at the same time. When I start the minor prophets I think I will go through the Psalms again too. Or them maybe I'll wait until I start the New testament to do Psalms. That sound like a better idea.

Yesterday I finished Isaiah and today started Jeremiah. How old was Jeremiah when he was called to be a prophet? I know he was just a young boy. Does anyone know how old he was?

Marilyn, I don't know that we are ever given a certain age for Jeremiah, but Jer 1:5 tells us that before Jeremiah was born, God had already determined that he would be a prophet.  Jeremiah noted, in vs 6, that he was "only a child" so we do know he was very young when God spoke to him.

There you can actually hear your bible readings in any version of the bible. It also has other uses such as commentaries.

We are reading I Timothy 1-2 at the moment in the new ESV translation.

Thanks folks I'm going to look up that Reading Plan.  I have received Our Daily Bread Notes for years and expand on those. At times I try something new but I return because these are good Biblical Truths. Discovery House send me their lists and I receive the lovely R.B.C. Notes and Discovery Series which are illuminating.

I was surprised to find the "Our Daily Bread" readings on their web site with sound.  It's nice to listen and read at the same time, especially if tired in the evenings.

Discovery Series:

Meaningful Devotions:-
"Take time every day to feed your soul and pray, Both with your spouse (well done Ken and Margaret) and in private. Each person can determine the time, length and method."

"The Godly person is one whose delight is in the law of the Lord" (Ps 1:2)

He also prays "My voice you shall hear in the morning, O Lord" (Ps 5:3)........
Daniel as an aged man far removed from his own people, went to his upper room three times a day, opened the windows towards Jerusalem, knelt and prayed .....

Still reading the Message Bible, I start Micah tomorrow.

After many years of Our Daily Bread I am now having a different Notes."Encounter with God".from Scripture Union.
Scripture Union do various helps for Bible Study and I find this one is most encouraging but the new issue doesn't start until October. That discusses 1 and 2 Kings, Philippians  and Hosea.
There are notes at the bottom of the page for Reading the Bible through in a year also.

My son brought an un sold copy of the current issue home from work for me." Amos" for September.  I had just been saying to Chris.."we musn't be complacent"....I opened it and there we were.."Beware of complacency".
Seems God has His hand on me.  Praise Him!

How is everyone doing with the "Through the Bible in a Year" Bible reading?

I'm still about 6 weeks behind but I will try to do better next year.  I've thoroughly enjoyed doing this.


NOVEMBER

It looks like I am also behid a few weeks. I am in Acts 25.

I'm not sure which system I'll use next year.  I sort of like to have a portion in the Old and the New each day.

But whatever system I choose, I know it will be so good to read God's Word.

Yes Pat, I like to read a bit from both..especially the Lectern readings from the Anglican Communion give something from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

Today the readings are Baruch 5:1-9, Phil 1:4-6, Luke 3:1-6, all fit together perfectly with the Advent theme.

In the past I have used a Lectern Diary, which has all the daily readings for a year....there are however no study notes.

Well, here we are at the start of yet another new year...

It looks as if the RBC method has both an Old Testament and a New Testament reading for each day this year.  I like that.


Here's January:


JANUARY 2004

Cornelia and I started our reading last night.  We are going to use the same plan as last year, just reading through the Bible out loud.  We have figured out how much to read each night.

We got behind a little when I was in the hospital for three weeks but we doubled up when I got home and caught up.

I hope you all will enjoy your reading as much as we do.

I too am reading through again this year. I didn' get finished but will do that  in evening readings and have started fresh I am using the Victory Bible reading plan. Its a book that my pastor gave out for christmas.

Cornelia and I continue our daily Bible reading each night.  Tonight we will read the 5th through the 8th chapters of Deuteronomy.  Every night about bed time one or the other of us will say, "Are you ready to read?"

I hope you are all continuing your reading.  Each time we read through the Bible we see some things which we have missed before.

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Papa John.  So far, I'm on schedule.  It's nearer the end of the year that I start to have trouble.
