Welcome to TomJ!! to
:cp:
I think you'll like it here. We are a friendly enough bunch ;) If you need any help just give a shout.
Looking forward to seeing your photographs, TomJ
Thank you, JudyB.
A new friend of mine, Gary, invited me here. He goes by "gjtoth" on the message board where I met him, so maybe that is his username here, too?
I have several websites that I frequent, so I'm not sure how much time I will be able to spend here. I love the Lord, and I love taking pictures of the beautiful things that He has made, so I have a hunch that I will somehow find time to hang out here. ;)
I was born in June of 1949, and I am 59 years old at this time. I grew up in Hammond, IN, which is just across the state line from Chicago, IL. I went to Purdue University and received a B.S. in Forestry Degree in 1971. It was my childhood dream to work for the U.S. Forest Service somewhere in the mountains of the West, but a hiring freeze prevented me from getting a full time permanent job with them, and after two years of temporary work, I gave up.
I have lived in western Kentucky since 1973.
Here's a picture of yours truly.
God bless.
Tom

Hey, Tom!
It's so nice to have you here! I'm so happy that Gary told you about this site. We're small and there's always room for so many more.
Right now, we're voting on a little challenge so why not go in and vote for your favourites?
Here's a link: http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=7490.0

Hi, Pat! Thanks for the welcome.
Guelph, ON? Hey, I have been there! I used to have to go to Affinia-Canada, the automobile oil filter plant, in Cambridge on business from time to time before they closed the place.
Tom
Well, my goodness. About 10 miles from me!
I'm having a big time problem staying connected to the Internet while I am visiting this site. Does anyone else have this problem? What is the solution?
Thanks.
Tom

Hi Tom
I'm not sure why this may be happening to you. I've just been on the site for over an hour and usually am and I never lose my internet connection.
I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Hi Marilyn. Yes, I picked the "stay logged in forever" option. It's not that I have to log back into this site, it's that I have to reconnect to the Internet by clicking on the "connect" button in the box that pops up telling me that I am not connected to the Internet. When it reconnects, I am logged in, like I am supposed to be.

Yes, Gary, I think I would enjoy being part of this fine group of people, but I have to "reconnect" to the Internet every time I want to load a new page or make a post. It is very frustrating.
It could be something to do with my AVG firewall, or something about my security set-up. I don't know much about computers, unfortunately.
Tom
Tom, it could quite possible be your AVG maybe set too high? I don't know.
But maybe Larry Hanna might know. He posts in the Thoughts for the Week and if you go in there and ask, maybe he'll know the answer.
It just doesn't happen to me at all. I use Firefox

It's kind of weird, Tom. It may very well be your firewall. Try turning it off and connecting. Are you running through a router? If so, you don't need a software firewall. Most routers have a built-in firewall. What anti-virus are you running?

Gary, I am using the "paid for" version of AVG. It comes with a firewall of its own.

Tom, I think Pat may have hit upon the problem. Do you have this disconnect problem on other websites? I doubt that it is AVG because if it were it wouldn't disconnect you but probably not let you connect at all.

Larry:
Thanks.
I do have the problem with other sites, but it seems to me much worse here. I think it kind of starts when I come here, and then it carries over to other sites and to my Email, even.

Tom, do yourself a favor and get Firefox. http://www.mozilla.com It's MUCH more secure and flexible. Give that a shot and see if that takes care of your problem. Don't worry about your bookmarks. Firefox will import them flawlessly.
I agree about Firefox.
Also, theres so few temporary files placed on your computer when you use Firefox. IE is notorious for placing hundreds of temporary files on your computer which you have to constantly delete.
So, yes, get Firefox.
You'll be glad you did.
Well, my friends, I don't know why, but I am not having the trouble any more. I haven't done anything to fix it; it just cleared up. Great!
Tom
Well, that's wonderful news!
I'm so happy!

Cool beans, Tom! Glad to hear it. Still, give Firefox a whirl...
