Title: new business idea?
Post by: bluegypsy on March 01, 2008, 06:59:49 PM
Hi everyone,
I'm Janice, a 45 year old mom of three homeschooled teens, (one's in college!), and now as I begin my midlife thing, I'm drawn to my love of photography and all things beautiful.  I have a background in make-up artistry, but I've been playing with some ideas about how to do makeup and photography as a home based business.  I was wondering if anyone with knowledge on this might like to shed some light as I continue to prayerfully think things through.  At this point, I was thinking of having my own cosmetic line, to be sold without the worldly hype and accent on outer beauty that permeates our society today.  As a recovering eating disorder patient, I have much to say about the real way we need to be perceiving ourselves through God's eyes, and I planned on writing copy to capture those messages.  I want to offer simple, informal portrait sessions for moms, teens, or other women who just need a little boost, and give them a gentle pampering with the right colors and techniques to keep them looking real, but feeling beautiful.  I don't have all the details worked out, but I do have the cameras, the backdrops, and the cosmetics already, I'm just looking for someone else to maybe help fill in the gaps I may be missing.  I would so love to hear what you think of this idea, and I appreciate your taking the time to read and respond...God bless you, Janice :)

First of all, let me give you a big :welcome: to Christian Photographers!  I know it's been awhile since you registered but  It's nice to have you here.

You deserve a lot of credit homeschooling all those years.  My daughter homeschooled as far as highschool and then out of necessity, she had to enter the work field but at least the kids had a good start.

Now, with regard to your business venture, it sounds wonderful if you can do it.  I am now retired and I just wouldn't know where to start!  ::)

I hope that as you go through this process (thought process) you'll keep us posted.

I will think on it too.

Again, a big :welcome: to

:cp:

Have you thought about possibly working with hospice patients?

Yes, actually I'm planning on including women with cancer or other life-altering illnesses as a large part of my business.  I feel strongly about giving hope, even in a little way, to these people, because it was a cancer victim for whom I helped chose a wig, that first helped me realize that this was what I wanted to do with my life...make women feel beautiful...not in a plastic, showy way, but in a real, deeper way that lets one see her first, then the makeup, not the other way around...  <3

I think this idea is wonderful, and has so much merit!  Of course, the details need a lot of thought and planning.  I can't help you there, but I do encourage you to keep on praying and planning.  It will be so rewarding in many ways other than money.  The money?  I wouldn't know how to begin to figure charges for such a service.  I wish I were independently wealthy, and could just pay you to go do that!  Since that isn't the case, I do give you my encouragement, and pray that helps.  God bless you.

What a wonderful idea Janice. We have a service similar to that where I live. This woman help to select wigs, teaches the ladies how to apply their make up  and to make the most of their appearance  while still in chemo and. She supplies hats for them as well as the prosthesis, I understand the bras are quite expensive like $200. each which in my opinion is a terribly high price. She visits them while they are receiving their treatments sits a talks with them and in general emotionally supports them.

I pray that you will be successful. Like Janet I wish I could just give you the money to start your business.
