Title: New Too!
Post by: CheckSix on August 27, 2004, 12:41:53 PM
Hello everyone,

My name is R. Schutt and I live in Washington State. I'm a junior in high school at a small Christian school. I've always been interested in photography as my dad was a photography by hobby. It wasn't until last December that I purchased a Sony F717 and now here I am, about 9 months later with over 4000 pictures.

My high school doesn't offer photography as a course so I did an independent study with Rick Sammon's Complete Guide to Digital Photography (it is an awesome book!). This year I hope to begin to freelance for my school's yearbook and sports teams. By next summer I hope to freelance for my local newspaper. Right now, I am thinking about visual communications for college.

I found this board also by Google and I am also a member at several other sites and I really glad I have found this one where I can interact with other Christians in a safe enviornment.
Title: Hi from New Zealand
Post by: Woolady on August 27, 2004, 06:29:28 PM
Hi I am new here, my name is Maureen, but in NZ I am known as the Woolady. I have been a Christian since I was a wee girl, I am now a grandmother, of 9. For the last 17 years my husband & I, (Peter) followed the Lords instructions to "Feed My Sheep", this we done by going out every day and picking up damaged goods, mainly food, it was all given to various agencies, and churches in Canterbury, NZ. The Lord taught me one thing from all this work, dont think "small", I learnt this early on, when three churches were desperate for any food of any kind, I phoned the biggest food manufacter we have in NZ, and they bought down from their factory in the North Island ( we live in the South Island) 82 toones of tinned food to be packed, and distributed all through the South Island, it took a class form Middleton Grange, a Christian school, 4 days to repack and send it all out by rail to everyone. This happened twice a year, but in between these times Peter and I were out everyday picking up and dropping off "goodies"....The Lord has been good to us both, we were told by the doctors that we couldnt carry on, and that we had to retire, (well Peter was 70 at the time and I was 55), lifting 50lb bags of rice was becoming a wee bit harder for us. We didnt know we were going to retire so very fast though, in 5 weeks the Lord had us a house, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, he provided the deposit for a house, ( we had rented one from the goverment for all those yrs) so we never had any spare cash, the house is what I had always asked the Lord for, nice and large and sunny. BUT... I had also said, I will never ever move to the West Coast of the South Island, because it is so far from the city, and I was a city girl. But, we are here, we have been truly blessed in our 43 yrs of marriage, we have 4 children, 9 grandkids, and a wonderful retirement, in a beautiful part of New Zealand.
How did I aqire the name of "Woolady", that was in 1985, when a ship was going to Eithopia, filled with donations of medicines and wooll jumpers, I asked around, and then when I looked it had turned into one of the biggest fundraisers NZ had seen for a while. In 10 days we gathered $250.000 worth of donated things, jeans/hand knitted jumpers/meds, blankets. All arrived in Eithopia safely, and the Media nicknamed me the Woolady, and it stuck!!!!!!!!! :DPraise the Lord for all His mercies...I know I am going to enjoy the company on this site...Love Maureen   ;D
