I've been a "lurker" and occasional poster here for a few years. Just not very active at all. I think it's time to change that so a little introduction:
I really thought I wanted to be a bridal and wedding photographer and had a little success getting gigs for a few years. One year shooting almost 20 events as a primary or 2nd. After moving from Austin to Houston in 2008 things tapered off although I still had a few events here and there. Last year 2012 I had my highest paying single gig but really didn't enjoy it at all. I'm pretty much in the place where I just want to scale down my equipment (I'm a Canon shooter for weddings and portraits) and shoot mostly for my enjoyment. Particularly travel and landscape. I'm in the process of downsizing my gear and moving to the Sony NEX system for compact and lightweight travel. I'll still keep a Canon DSLR and a lens or two, but that's it.
About me, I work full-time for an electric wholesale and retail company as a Government Affairs Manager. It's fun, interesting, and pays the bills. My wife and I have four children ranging from 19-30 years old. Three are married. We have 8 (with the 9th due in September 2013) grandchildren that keep us hopping. One of our sons and his wife live in Northern California so we get to visit there often and really enjoy the photographic opportunities that are available over there. The other three are in Texas and we also have great photo spots here. We're pretty much empty nesters and still enjoy each other's company. A good thing.
I want to participate more in the board so don't be surprised if I start a thread or two. If you got this far in the introduction, thanks! :)
