Hi there gjtoth...
We are very proud of how friendly the gang here is and are glad you've joined us. There is every level of knowledge here so feel free to jump into the forum and set up your album too in the Gallery no matter if you have just gotten your first camera today or have been a professional since the time of large format cameras.
If you need help, the Shoutbox works well, and is a great way to pass the time too. :)
Make yourself at home and enjoy sharing this wonderful art form here at
:cp:
Thanks for the warm welcome, Pat.
I'm relatively new to photography having only seriously started last August. I've been through about 8 cameras and finally found the one (well... two actually) that I really like.
I have absolutely no aspirations of "going pro" as I've done that with two of my past hobbies (music and computers) and they turned into drudgery. This one is for pure pleasure and keeping me focused (no pun intended) on God's work. My shots are mainly of critters and flowers with an occasional landscape or still-life. Some of my stuff can be see at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tothworld/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tothworld/) Although, I've participated in various photo forums (and still do), I'm finding out how petty some people are. Whilst others are just outright jealous and mean. Whilst I don't mind a tactfully-done critique, I don't tolerate mean-spirited nit-picking too well. If it occurs too often, I lurk for a while and if I see it continues without the moderator stepping in, I just don't come back. That's pretty much why I'm here. I'm a strong Christian as is my wife. We have been doing prison ministry for about 10 years and we know better Christians behind the wire than some of the folks we see coming to church :D
Welp... that's about it in a nutshell... glad to have found this place.
I'm glad you came here as well.
I just saw some of your bird photos and they are wonderful.
We'll soon have some of them up here. We have seen the Goldfinch a wee bit but not as many as there should be yet. But our nights are till very cold here.

Thanks again, Pat.
I'm patiently (HAHA) waiting for the hummingbirds to arrive. I'm dying to try out this new Oly on 'em!
Gary Welcome to CP. Come on over to the Thought for the Week forum that is our little coffee shop where we meet ech day to talk about whatever.
I live in Northern California Where to do you live?
Welcome, gjtoth. So glad you've been part of Christian Photographers!
Kevin in Japan
Marilyn, it says that he lives in Kentucky in his profile but he must be a great swimmer!!!
Look at his map!
(Sawwy Gary) ;D
Duh! it says Louisville, Kentucky in his signature.
Welcome gjtoth, glad you did find this place, followed your lead over to flickr, and indeed there are some wonderful bird shots there, you must have much more colourful avian species over there, than we do in England, our birds seem to come in a majestic range of white, grey, brown, and black. So how do you pronounce gjtoth you'll have to tell us your testimony, sounds like it could be well worth reading, especially the bit about your prison ministry.
Hey there, Gary. It's great to have you join us here. I'm not a photographer (pro or otherwise) but I sure do enjoy the talent of others here.
I live on the southern coast of Oregon. In fact, speaking of bird photos, our resident swans are sitting on a nest of about six eggs. We can hardly wait to see the babies out and about. I understand the parents will take turns carrying them about on their backs. My friend is awaiting my "announcement" so she can come over and take pictures. Y'all will get to share in the fun.
Jane, you should get out there and take some photos for yourself too! :ticked:

Hey Pat... I don't even have a camera. Nita will do the honors when the time comes.
Thanks, everyone for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to interacting with all of you.
