Took this photo a few months ago. Photographing the moon is something i am intrested in but still learning so much

Kassie just pointed out the the white dot below the moon. Is it a star? If so, is it mars?

At the risk of "mooning" over it, I too think this is a great shot. It's interesting that on the left-hand edge of the moon you can plainly see the high and low points silhouetted against the sky. Great!
Yes, it's a great shot, obviously cropped a great deal, but with the detail holding very well.
Many people think the perfect time to take a shot is during a full moon, but actually you want a bit of shadow; the side lighting really shows up the mountains and details, as it does in this shot.
