Beth went to see the endocrinologist yesterday, and he is 99 99/100% sure she has thyroid cancer.  She will go for a biopsy on May 19th, and then they will remove it, whether or not it is cancerous, a couple of days later.

And when she stopped by to see her sister Diane today on her way home, Diane noticed that when Beth was talking and laughing, the whole right side of her mouth just drooped.  So she came over when she got home, and I noticed it, too!  So it appears she has suffered a stroke, or possibly has Bell's Palsy.  I am just so upset about this I don't know what to think!  Beth has had MORE than her share already.

Anyway, please pray in faith for Beth's total healing.  This distressed Mom will appreciate it so much.  I was so hoping she was on her way to a full recovery and a return to work.

Dear Distressed Mom ... I know--oh so well--how you must be feeling, and I can certainly empathize with your concerns. :'(
We serve a Mighty God, and I know He hears and answers prayers.  This is small solace at the moment, I know, but you can be assured I am praying for Beth as well as for her mother and the rest of the family.

Father, please hold them in your arms and calm the palpitating hearts and assuage all fear.  You can bring about YOUR WILL in all of us, as we learn to surrender to your control.  Give Janet peace right now, and sweet rest in YOU. Teach us to trust You in all things.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Pat

I echo Jane's prayer, Janet.  I'm so sorry about this news.

I'll be praying for you for sure and for Beth.

Our Dear Father, I come to you with a heavy heart, Our sister is in desperate need of your healing touch. Father I ask you now to cut off all blood supply to that cancerous? growth on Beths thyroid, Burn it out at the root, It is written that by your stripes she was healed, I am calling on you Father to watch over your word to perform it. It is also written that Your word does not return to you void. You are not a man that you should lie, you are Jehovah Rapha, you said that you are the God who healeth thee. She needs your healing power to go through her from the top of her head to the souls of her feet. Send your healing virtue through her right now Father. And in the name of Jesus I speak to that spirit of cancer and in the name of Jesus I bind you and command you to leave for it is written that whatever we bind on earth is bound in heaven and at the name of Jesus you have to flee. So get out of her now.I proclaim her healing now. Amen.

Oh, dear Janet.  I'm praying too......for Beth and for your family.

We know there is nothing our God cannot do!

We are here with you.....holding you, praying for and with you, feeling your heart.

My prayers and love are with you all, Janet.

As a mom whose oldest child experiences all sorts of terrible health problems, I know the agony of spirit you're undergoing.

And, I can empathize with how deeply this is affecting Beth. I've faced biopsies, surgeries, and tests several times when the expected result was cancer, so I know first hand her fears, the emotional turmoil, the agony of waiting...I've been there.

I'll be supporting y'all in prayer daily.

Janet ~ I agree with the prayers already said and I will certainly keep Beth in my prayers!

Etta Sue

The scripture about that he doesn't give us more than we can endure comes to mind when I read about Beth.  He will give her strength and all her family strength to endure whatever she is facing.  I agree with all the above prayers and thought.  God be with all of you.

Cyberhugs to all of you.

Anthony

Janet,

How devastating for the family as a whole.  As you say, Beth has had an awful lot to endure.

We know from scripture that His grace is sufficient for us no matter what situation we have to go through.  No matter how fierce the battle, we are on the Victor's side.

May the Lord bless Beth and all those who are affected by this news.

Anthony.

Oh Father, I pray for Janet and Beth.  I pray You'll grant them peace and comfort in Your Sovereignty over all things and Your infinite wisdom in dealing with each of us.  And Father, You know our hearts - I also pray You'll heal Beth of whatever this is.  Oh do these things, Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Janet

We spoke to Beth's Neurologist today, and he thinks the problem with her mouth is probably Bell's Palsy.  We have an appointment in Guymon tomorrow with her Primary care doctor to see what needs done about this.

I appreciate all your prayers so very much.  I am feeling kind of numb, but trusting our loving Savior to see us through this to victory.

God bless,

I am giving a prayer of thanks for you.  Carol

Janet

Yes, we thank God that Beth does not have cancer.  She still needs prayer, though, because in spite of the back surgery, she still cannot walk very well, has pain and numbness in her feet and legs.  She had another MRI (we don't have the results as yet) on Thursday, which they hope will reveal the cause of these problems.

She is applying for Social Security Disability, and needs your prayers that she will get it, and the process will be expedited.  She has no income at all, and as you know, those bills just keep coming!

Thanks so much to all of you who have and are praying for Beth.

I wish I were coming with good news; unfortunately, it is the opposite.  Beth's doctor called her today with the results of that last MRI.  There is ANOTHER ruptured disc in her back!  :( :'(  They have made an appointment for the to see a "Pain Management" doctor on July 28th.  I guess this disc is the reason why she cannot feel her feet, and has fallen several times because of that lack of feeling.

She has appointments with two of her doctors on July 21 but I doubt we will learn much then.  One is her Neurologist, the other the one about the thyroid problem.

Your prayers are so valued, and so appreciated.  Thank you and may you be richly blessed for your generosity in praying.  We love you.

Janet, so sorry to hear of the additional problems that Beth is experiencing.  At least they have identified the problem and hopefully they will be able to do something to bring her relief.  How frustrating this must be for her (as well as her family) to think she has done what was needed to correct the problem and then find a new problem with her back.  I will continue to pray for her and for you all as you provide the support she needs through these trials.  Does she live close by to you?

Janet

Yes, Larry, thankfully Beth lives here on our property.  She bought her own mobile home, and is only about 150 yards away, so I can help her when she needs me.  She rarely ever asks, though.

Beth has been getting up and going to the pool with us in the mornings.  Just walking in the water is good exercise and doesn't cause pain like other types of exercises can.  She swims a little, too, what she can tolerate.  So she is trying!

Please keep her in your prayers today, as she has an interview with the SRS to try to get some temporary help until she can get the SS Disability.  As you probably know, money problems can bring a LOT of stress!

Praying for you to keep up your strength and faith in the Lord for your needs.

Janet

Beth has been falling again, she fell twice yesterday and again this morning, outdoors, and had trouble getting back on her feet.  She had bloody knees.

But I believe the Lord did touch her, as the pain is less in her back now.  Also, we are so happy she is finally receiving some help with her finances, through a government agency.  This is temporary until she can get on Social Security Disability.  I am still not ready to accept that she is disabled at the young age of 40, so I continue to pray and thank God for her total healing.

Continuing prayers will be so appreciated.  Thank you.

Happy note---Beth took Ruffles to the pet show at the fair yesterday and won a blue ribbon!  And today she took Cookie, and Cookie won Grand Champion, Reserve Champion and two blue ribbons!!  Beth was pretty pleased.

Janet - I am so sorry to read of further trouble for Beth.

I agree with you.  You have to FIGHT and not give in.  I am so glad that I can attest to that as well.  I was never one to "give in" to my pain.  My dad was like that too.

I bet you are a fighter too, Janet., Beth needs a "boost" when her spirits get her down., its human nature.  I hope John is the "encourager type" for Beth....is he?

I am really pleased that John and Beth have each other.  Thats a great friendship, for sure.

Oh, Judy!  You wouldn't BELIEVE how good John is for Beth!  He constantly calls, or encourages her on the computer (yahoo) and she is doing much better just knowing that he cares!  I thank God for John!  Really.

Larry Hanna

Janet, nice to read about the joy Beth is getting from her dogs and certainly hope that the missing dog shows up soon.  However, one must wonder if someone didn't pick it up and take it with them.  Also good to hear what a boost it is for Beth to have a friend like John.  I'm sure you appreciate his role in helping Beth keep up her positive outlook.  Also gald she is getting some financial aid.

Janet

Beth saw two doctors again on Monday, and the news is not good.  They are still concerned about her thyroid, want her to have another sonogram and another biopsy.

The other doctor is a pain management doctor.  He said that in looking at her last MRI, he can see that there are many neurofibromas in her spinal column.  That is about the worst news we could get.  He also said it sometimes takes as long as 18 months for the nerves to recover from the type of back surgery she had, and that her pain is probably from nerve damage.  He was very kind and told her he will do all in his power to help her get her Social Security Disability because he doesn't think she will ever be able to go back to work. :-\ :'( :'(  He prescribed some new meds for her to see if they will help.

All of these things make me so sad.......I just never expected such a thing to happen to her.  I must tell you, she is taking it better than I am!  But I do not show my dismay in front of Beth.

Continuing prayers will be so appreciated.  Thanks.

Janet, my heart goes out to you and to Beth in facing this additional bad news.  It seems that is about the only kind she is getting from the doctors these days.  I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

There is a fine book out by Rick Warren called "The Purpose Driven Life".   It has a chapter called "Transformed by Trouble" and it points out
Quotethat Jesus "learned obedience through suffering" and "was made perfect through suffering".  Why would God exempt us from what he allowed his own Son to experience?
He also says
QuoteThe secret of endurance is to remember that your pain is temporary but your reward will be eternal.

Yes, Larry!  Those are excellent quotes!  Janet - Beth will, in all eternity, thank her heavenly Father for these trials here in this life.  They are indeed hard now, but they will be used to produce eternal fruit!  See Iain's devotional this morning - it's exactly geared to Beth's situation.

Larry - so very glad to hear that you are done with driving for those treatements every day!  I pray our Father to continue to bless them to you.

I will be remembering Beth in my prayers.

Yes, it is so very hard when you see your children suffering; my heart broke when you spoke of you heartache for I, too, have been suffering with my daughter's decision for her life.

But, with the pain, I know my God is in control for I feel peace knowing he is there watching and "holding us up"
to continue on.

HE is an awesome GOD !!!!

Carol

Janet:  It is so difficult for a parent to witness the pain of a child and I send my heartful prayers to both you. Beth and Darrell.  Carol

Janet

Thank you dear friends, for your continuing prayers for Beth and also for Darrel and me as we walk this hard path.

Larry, I have been mulling over the quote from the book that you posted re Jesus learning obedience through suffering.  It doesn't make sense to me at all, because Jesus was NEVER disobedient!  So why would He have to learn obedience through suffering?  I just believe that a loving Heavenly Father wants us to live in divine health, and that His will is to heal us.  Why that doesn't always happen, I don't fully understand, but I just believe it is His heart of love for us to be healed.

I hope you take these words in the loving way I mean them.  I am just trying to find my way in this dark time of Beth's problems becoming worse by the day, and I need to believe that God is there, wanting to heal her, even more than she wants to be healed.  Please know that I love you, and I appreciate you so much, and am praying for your healing as well.

Janet, you have known me here and on SeniorNet long enough to know I would never take offense.  I took those two quote out of an entire chapter of the book but didn't want to quote anymore in honor of the copyright.  I only hope that my posting didn't cause you any additional pain or concern as that was certainly not my intent.  I am so glad you spoke up about your concern.

Marilyn

Dear Janet. You go right on believing in Beth's healingin fact I will suggest that you go to the Precious Bible Promises and read the one we put in there on healing. Beth WILL have her healing. Remmember 1 Peter 2:24, "By his stripes you WERE healed". I think that Peter must have meant that when Jesus went to the cross and took all our sickness and diseases with Him that 's when we were healed.
Do not lose faith dear friend. Beths needs all the faith she can get right now, and that means yours and Darrels too.

Janet, I'll be continuing to pray for Beth as I have been as you know.  If it's in the Lord's perfect plan for Beth that she be healed, she WILL be healed.  Everything that our Lord does is perfect and we must remember that.  God makes no mistakes.

I do remember though that every day, Jack thanked the Lord for his illnesses--and he had many. It wasn't in God's perfect plan to heal Jack.  Jack didn't lack faith.  But he realized that there was a reason (even if we didn't know what that reason was) that the Lord saw fit to allow him to have these illnesses.

God bless you dear Janet and I will be continuing to pray that the Lord's perfect will  and plan will be accomplished in Beth's life.

It's so difficult to see one of our children suffer.  I went through it--not nearly for as long as you have nor was it as serious--but I did have five years (two of which Ian was in a wheel chair) and I really thought I was going to lose him.  We didn't.  And for that I continually praise the Lord.

Dear Janet, I can fully understand your quandry at Jesus' "learning obedience by His suffering."  Perhaps it would help to understand what was meant by the word "learn."  As you say, Jesus was not ignorant about obedience.  In fact, we read elsewhere His own testimony: "I do always those things that please the Father."  No one knew obedience as He did.
But in this case the word "learn" really doesn't mean "learn" in the sense we usually understand.  It means, here, "experienced."  Jesus "experienced" obedience by the things He suffered.  I'm sure you're aware that He had to experience all the things that we have to experience - for our sakes.
Nevertheless, we do indeed need to understand also that not all illnesses can be attributed to Satan.  Of course all illnesses can be traced back ultimately to Adam's sin - without that there would have been no pain, no illness in the world.  But now our sovereign God, Who has all wisdom, allows troubles and trials into our lives, including even illness/pain, etc.  He even allows Satan to try us at times - all for the purpose of teaching us things we absolutely would not learn otherwise.  Samuel Rutherford, the great Scottish Divine, said, "Wants are my greatest riches, for I have these supplied by Christ."  He meant that we need wants, we need trials, we need illnesses and hurts because they drive us to Christ.  All the saints of all time testify to this fact.  They know that without trials our stubbornness, selfishness, and other assorted foolishnesses would keep us from seeking Him as we need to do.  God knows us.  He never allows anything but what will ultimately help us.

Janet

Larry, thank you for being one who does NOT take offence--you know none was intended.  I really do respect you, and love you as a brother.  Thank you for understanding that I am trying to fit the pieces of this puzzle together.

Al, and Pat-----I am "meditating" on your words, will be going to the Book and seeing how they line up there.  I know you love me and are concerned, but sometimes we do have differences in the way we understand God's Word.  I mostly (can't think of an exception just now) take it literally.

I know for sure we are told "IN everything give thanks; not FOR everything........."  I will come and post again after I pray and search a while.  Love you!

I hope I don't offend anyone by offering my humble opinion. Forgive me if I do, no offense intended.

I don't  believe it is God's will for His children to suffer. I don't know of anyplace in the Bible that it says that Jesus didn't heal ALL the sick and afflicted. But it does say "And He healed them all".

Now God's plan is another subject, I don't know of anyplace it says that it is part of God's plan for His children to suffer either.

In 3 John 2 it says "I would that you would prosper and be in health even as you soul prospers. In Psalm 103:3 it says "who pardons all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases. James 5:16 says " ...pray for one another so that you may be healed..."

And I don't mean to offend either, Marilyn...

I just have a question..

What would you say to someone who is a Christian who wasn't healed?  Why wouldn't they be healed if it's not the Lord's will for them to be ill?  Would you suggest that they didn't have enough faith?

"Click for Waterloo Wellington, Ontario Forecast"

Jane Walker

No, Pat ... Healing is all about GOD.  Once we pray and believe, then "it's on Him" as my pastor would say.  I won't enter any further into this discussion because there are so many different ways one can "understand" the scriptures.  I will only say that we can certainly not question God's Omnipotence.  Nor can we say anything about someone else's faith!

I think you know where I'm coming from with this, Pat.  It isn't that long ago that I lost my daughter and there was much todo over this subject.  Many even left the church.   :-\
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Marilyn

Pat I certainly would not question God's will, nor the fact that He can do anything He wants to do.
Nor would I question another person's faith.  I do not believe it is God's will for us to be sick. However we do get allthese physical challenges that the Lord has given the doctor's knowledge to deal with. It is not  for me to question how or when that healing takes place, whether  on earth or in the glorified body we will get when our spirit leaves the old sick body.

You said
QuoteIt is not  for me to question how or when that healing takes place, whether  on earth or in the glorified body we will get when our spirit leaves the old sick body.
.  That's saying a gigantic mouthful!  That's precisely what is meant in Ps. 103 when it says, "Who healeth all thy diseases."  It doesn't mean that every disease we have here on earth is immediately healed, but it does certainly mean two things: 1) eventually - either now or hereafter they are or will be healed, and 2) Whenever a disease is healed, directly or through medicine, it is God Who healed that disease.
I'd also like to point out John 9:1-4.  Here we have one born blind.  It was definitely the will of God that he be born blind, not because he sinned, nor because his parents sinned, but in order that "the works of God should be manifested in him."  In this case, the "works of God" would be his healing, but in many others it will be (is) the formation of new patience, humility, love, faithfulness, etc.  God uses difficulties to form His graces in His children.  Samuel Rutherford said, "Grace groweth best in winter," and "wants (needs) are my greatest riches, because I have these supplied by Christ."
Not that we shouldn't pray for relief (healing), but at the same time we should absolutely
thank God for trials, including sickness, hurts, etc.!
They are the means that produce growth. (Romans 5:3, Jn. 16:33).  Oh may we not sin by refusing His correcting rod!  Yes, sin entered the world through the temptation of Satan, and, yes, our present ills wouldn't exist apart from that fall, but God - GOD - is sovereign.  He uses Satan, though Satan doesn't like it, to sanctify us.

I have just come on line and checked in to see how Beth is doing.  I have decided to add my two cents worth, and with the value of the dollar that may not be worth much.

Before I begin I want to ask "How IS Beth?"  and What does she believe on this subject?

Now First and foremost "I Am the Lord that healleth thee."  That is what the Bible says. That is what God says. What kind of healling and when is the dilema.  I personally believe in a literal healling.  BUT what about those who are not healled?  Does that mean that there is something wrong with them, or their faith?  Look at Joni Erickson Tada.  I know many believe she hasn't been healled because she lacked faith.  When God heals He does so to glorify Him.  That is the only reason.  So in allowing Joni to remain in the physical state that she is in, He has a reason.  Now look at the number of peoply she can and has and continues to minister to.  I cannot do that, I have never been cripled the way she is, and I DO NOT understand.  So she is remaining in a wheelchair so God can use her to bring more people to him.  Is she healled?  YES!  Do we see it?  NO! ! Does God see her healled?  YES!  Her present life gives glory to the grace and mercy of a loving Father.

Pat, Was Jack healled?  YES! Did we see the healling?  NO!  Does that mean he wasn't healled?  NO! ! Did God see him healled?  YES yes yes.  What did Jack do during the three plus years, 3 times a week at the hospital?  He testified to the grace and mercy of a loving God.  God only allows what we are able to take.  Jack had been thro' enough.  God released him from his earthly ministry, only, for us who remain, to see that ministry go on through the people he prayed for!

Will Beth be healled?  YES.  Will we see the healling? I don't know.  God knows and He isn't saying.  When will we know?  I don't know.  God knows and he isn't telling!

Do I believe everyone will be healled?  Absolutely.   He has said I AM the Lord that healleth thee! But let us remember all healling will be done to glorify God. and cause His work to be furthered.

Janet my heart goes out to you.  This is one of the hardest things a parent has to go through.  I will be praying for you and your family as you walk through the valley.  I will continue to pray for Beth's healling.  And that God would be glorified in all that Beth does.  Love you sis.

U.K. 1.35p.m.

Judy B.  Amen! Thank-you dear for those words.

Last night I was thinking of Beth and I took Joni's "More Precious Than Silver" from the bookase.......in it she says:-

"I think the most epic of all miracles will be raising us up and transforming our lowly bodies into glorious bodies like Our Lord's. Talk ab out power that's personal."

Maybe like Mephibosheth we might cry out to God, "What is Your servant , that you should notice a dead dog like me?(2 Sam9:8) We should know the answer. It lies in a story of love and friendship."

"God the Father invites us to His table to commune with Him, because He sees in our countenance the remembrance of His dearly loved Son. There is something about us, those of us that are Hid with Christ, that shows a trace of Jesus..little wonder that God delights to welcome us to His table".

Joni says not look at me for a healing in this body.....on one page she says:-

"Make a list of all the big miracles that Jesus did before He came to earth....galaxies, black holes, solar systems, law of gravity, the law of thermodynamics etc.,
Make a point of looking up to the Heavens tonight even if it's overcast, there's a magnificence, to it all. Contemplate how marvellous God's creation is, including YOU"

Joni talks about Jesus' little miracles which He performed on earth, so she sees things on a wider scale than we do. Certainly this woman is mightily used of the Lord and knows she shall be healed....in His timescale.

                       ......................

"What is man that you are mindful of him or the son of man that You gratefully and helpfully care for and visit and look after him?" Heb 2:6.

JudyB

I read this again today.  Jenny  Joni is one of my favourite people and authors.  Everyone should read Joni and Joni a Step Further  I think they are called.

What we have, as christians, to do is be very careful not to add to another person't suffering.  Each one of us have suffered, and in the suffering well meaning people, myself included, have given what we think are words of comfort only to have them interpreted wrong.  Now rather than say too much of anything I simply pray.  Even saying to some people "I am praying for you," can come across as a flip answer.  We are not to be flip, rather sensitive to the needs of others.  When a person is in the heat of suffering, they need a hug, even a cyber hug helps and gentle words.  So many times I have had a heartache and had someone say I am praying for you and it has just left me empty.

I am preaching here I will be quiet.

Janet HOW is Beth?  I do hope no-one has taken offence to all my ramblings.

Janet

I want to assure all of you that I am reading with a great deal of interest your postings here, regarding whether or not it is always God's will to heal.  I will say that I believe it IS always God's will to heal.  I base my belief solidly on the Word, and must go find the many scriptures that back up my belief.  It is never my wish to denigrate what anyone believes, but I do feel sad that so many settle for so far less than what Jesus shed his precious blood to purchase for us at Calvary.

Now, as to WHY some are healed and some not......it is never the fault of God!  But we can only believe FOR what we believe IN.  And if we are thanking God for illness and poverty, then the angels of God must back off and think "Well, I don't know why she is happy to be poor and sick!  But we can only enforce the words of her mouth, so we can't do anything to keep her from being poor and sick.  We will just have to wait until she starts confessing health and abundance!  Then we can get busy and arrange things to bring those into her life!"

I would never say that someone wasn't healed because he or she lacked faith.  The Word says that to everyone who comes into the world is given the measure of faith.  But what we do with our faith to cause it to grow and increase is up to us.  And our understanding of the Word is paramount to the strengthening of our faith.  Many wonderful, sincere, loving Christians have died needlessly because they didn't know that God WANTS to heal them.  It must break his loving, tender Father's heart to see this happen.

I love each of you here.  I just refuse to have my faith weakened (cannot afford it) by accepting less than my precious Jesus bought for me with His blood.  Salvation includes:  Safety, healing preservation, soundness and deliverance!  And I want it all!

Please, those of you who do not agree, don't get angry at me!  Go to the Book and look up every healing the scriptures talk about!  Did Jesus ever say "No, I won't heal you, I'm trying to teach you something by this suffering.  Go and suffer a few more years."  He would no more want us to suffer than we want our own kids to suffer!  He wants the best for us!  For YOU, dear ones!

Beth is doing about the same.  But whether she is healed or not, I will always know that it is God's will for her to be healed.  She believes that, too.  But she is a bit slack in confessing the promises of God concerning her healing, and since she is an adult, her Mom can't do it for her!  We do thank you for your prayers and concerns, and I apologize for this getting so long.

My love and prayers always, for you and Darrel as well as Beth.  God is an awesome God!  Though we tried for eternity to understand His ways ... we'd never make it!  Ours is to simply trust that He doeth all things well ... and He loves us!  :D

I, like you, stand firmly on His Word.  God said it and that settles it, whether I believe it or not!   :D

Jane
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

JudyB

Amen to both of you.  I believe Beth is healled, whether we see it or not.  I agree totally Janet.

Al Moak

Only one thing today.  Don't have much time.  My God is never brokenhearted.  He is not discouraged.  He is not defeated in the slightest.  He has His way in absolutely all cases.  He is not a man, and His ways are not our ways.  When He wishes to heal, He does so.  But I thank Him that He does not always do so, for we would absoutely not grow in grace if He did so.
Nevertheless, He does want me to be human, to be brokenhearted, to be sympathetic in the best of ways, and by His Spirit I can grow in these things.  Therefore I will pray - and at the same time leave it to God.  I do believe as Judy does that all Christians are healed eventually - there will be no pain, sickness, death, etc. in Heaven.  Some are healed on earth, but only if it's for their best and the glory of God.

May I add a little bit to this discussion.  I certainly do not want my views to appear to be the sort of commentary that divides people.  I usually just keep my thoughts to myself, but I would like to express them this time.

My friend Sheila died of breast cancer about a year ago.  She refused to have chemo or anything else that could have possibly saved her life.  All because she felt the Lord had healed her, and she "knew it".  It is so sad that her husband is alone, brokenhearted and sick now.

I know the Lord does heal some, and yet some others are not healed (on this earth at least).  Even the Apostle Paul was not healed of his "thorn in the flesh" whatever that might have been.  It was important to him though, because he asked the Lord three times to remove it.  What was his answer?  "My Grace is sufficient for you." 2 Cor. 12: 9.  I believe this is one of the lessons the Lord has for us, to learn to depend on His Grace to be our supply.  I can accept illness or ailments if I believe they are in God's permissive will, I could not refuse to accept them, for God is, after all, Sovereign.  He is GOD!  My creator, my Great Physician.   He knows what is best for me.  Must 'what is best for us' always mean perfect health?  We might like to think that, but does God think that?  Does He get glory only in our healing?

We had a young friend who died of bone cancer, and he had such a positive outlook during his illness.  He said he was in a win-win situation.  If he died he wins.  If he lived he wins.  What a blessing he was to those around him.

Lovingly submitted,  Janice
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Â  Ps 118:24

JudyB

Janice I understand that husband's heartache.  God gave the doctors their knowledge and the ability to retain the knowledge.  He has given us medicines.  To not listen to the doctors is not right, and refusing to take the medicine is not wise on anyones part.   My medicine is making me feel a whole lot better, thank you Lord.

Let no bitter root divide us.

Jesus has healed me of some things and not others.
I know I need to learn humility and I do ask the Lord to help me.
There is always a blessing in  the "waiting" if we seek it.

Janet

Judy, Janice, Jenny and all who have posted here:  The reason I waited and prayed about it before posting as I did was that I in no way want to sow any discord among us here.  But God would not let me NOT post what I truly believe!  I am not asking anyone to agree with me, only to go to the Word if you have a problem with what I said.

We are all headed to the same heavenly home, and will be together throughout eternity, so we best learn to get along while here on earth, right??

My "problem" is that after He has done so much for me, I feel the very least I can do is to tell others about it, and about what I believe He wants for us as His kids.  Please do not feel I am upset with anyone......I'm not!
Well........except the devil!  And he is under my feet!

In Jesus' love,

Was there ever any news on Sindee?  Is Meika the same breed as Sindee?

How lovely that Beth has a friend in John., now to me, THATS an answer to prayer, wouldn't you say?

Beth got bad news this week.  Her Social Security Disability has been denied.  How they think she can work in her condition is more than I can understand, but I hear that it is almost routine for every application to be denied the first time around.  This will make it even harder on Beth, as she has no income, and now will have to hire a lawyer to help her get her benefits.  Then if and when he is successful, he will get a chunk of it. :(

Please continue to pray for her.  She is becoming discouraged, and I sure don't want her to get depressed.  Life is hard enough when we keep a good outlook!

Yesterday at church, Beth was handed a check for $400.00.  They said they just wanted to bless her!

I was told that in the board meeting, someone suggested giving Beth $100, and one member said "A hundred dollars is NOTHING!  I say, give her 400!  She has bills to pay!"

Praise God for answered prayers, and for unexpected blessings!  He is never too late!

I am so sorry to have to come here again, requesting renewed prayer for Beth.  The numbness she had in her feet has progressed upward until now, she is numb to her waist!  She staggers, lurches and falls a lot, keeping herself bruised and battered.  Now she has started driving her car from her house to ours, a distance of about 100 yards or so, because she falls so often.

We are taking her to Amarillo again this Friday for nerve conduction tests on her feet and legs.  Please pray they will find the cause of this numbness, and will be able to DO something about it!

This burden is much too heavy for us, and we do try to leave it at the foot of the cross.  But to see your "child" fast becoming unable to even walk, hurts more than I can express.  Thank you, dear friends, for your prayers.

Beth' condition has taken a turn for the worse but we know that you are able to do beyond anything we could possibly ask of you, So I pray dear Father that you will show the doctors exactly what the problem is and tell them how to fix it.I pray for speedy results to te tests and a speedy recovery.

Janet

After an almost sleepless night, getting up at 5 AM and a trip to Amarillo and back (about 430 miles) I am really weary.

We did not receive good news from the doctor today about Beth.  My heart is very heavy.  It is hard to see the keyboard or screen through my tears.  After about 2 1/2 hours of painful tests, he told us she has extensive nerve damage, muscle atrophy, and lack of electrical impulse conductivity in both legs and both feet.

After Beth left the room I asked about her prognosis and he said it is progressive and that Beth soon will be unable to walk at all any more.  And that there is not anything they can do to help her.  I am heartbroken.  I haven't told Beth this news yet; I don't know whether or not I should.  What do you think?  She is keeping a good attitude and trying to do all she can for herself; I don't want to do anything to discourage her.  I just keep going around and around in my mind about it.  Any advice?

I'll be praying with you, Janet, as you work through this with Beth. Most certainly, we don't want our children to suffer and we grieve with them as we do our best to help them.

While I don't share the same disease, the outcome will be the same - a wheelchair. So, I empathize both with you in your distress, and with the physical and mental suffering that Beth is undergoing.

Ruth Ann

Al Moak

Oh how deep are our sorrows in this world!  Perhaps in speaking to Beth you can begin something like, "Beth, you probably already know what the doctor and I have to tell you.  You know how my heart aches, but I have to tell you that the news is not good."  I don't know, of course, why God has chosen Beth in particular to undergo this deep trouble, but He is honoring her with a frontline position against the enemies of pain and death in this world.  He wants her to go through this in order to show everyone how wonderfully He can sustain us in and through trouble.  He wants to be very, very close to her through the coming months or years of difficulty - to make it clear that He can and will hold His people through anything and keep them from falling - even then.  He loves Beth - very much - and in ways we cannot fathom He will hold her close to Himself in the days to come.
And of course all that He will do in and through her can and will be done also in and through you, Janet.  He can and will be very, very close to you also as you draw near to Him for help.
My prayer is simply that our Father will overwhelmingly enable you for this time.

Dear Janet: This mother's heart goes out to you. I know it will be  hard to give Beth this news about her prognosis but rest assured that God is with you and the Holy Spirit will give you the words to say. Sometime I think we mothers take this kind of news much worse than the child it pertains to. She has more than likely given this much thought and already knows the future outcome in all this. I am praying for you both dear sister. Love You.

I went to sleep with this on my mind as I was saying my prayers.  I agree.  I think Beth knows already....you and the doctor would only be confirming her thoughts.  She has probably read about how her future will be through her cyber NF friends.  God sometimes feels distant to us.  But He is with us at all times.  You may not feel his presence but He is there.

I agree with all the thoughts and prayers above...God loves you both.  I love you both.

Judy, I'm sure it will come to that, unless the Lord intervenes.  She is still able to get about by using a cane or walker, and grabbing onto things.  Not at all steady!

I have no idea of what would be covered by Medicaid (when she finally gets on Social Security Disability) so we will have to cross those bridges when we come to them.  I'm not sure she could use one inside her mobile home, as those hallways are pretty narrow.

Oh Father, I ask for Beth whatever will be You very best for her.  From my humanly limited viewpoint, I ask for her complete healing, but, far, far more than that I ask that You will make Your Presence known to her in a powerful, blessed way.  Oh make her more fully aware of Your love for her than she has ever before experienced!  Oh Father, You can bless ANYTHING to us - I pray You'll bless her.

Janet

Well, dear friends.........here is the latest on Beth.  Her Dad has been watching a doctor on TV who does alternative medicine therapy, and he wanted me to call him.  I did, and they sent a package of herbs and stuff for her to start, to detoxify her body.  After three weeks of that, they want us to bring her to Midland, Texas for a week of IVs and other treatments, to "jump-start" her system to begin healing itself.

The package arrived yesterday, so Beth began the regimen today.  The Dr. thinks that a combination of herbs and stuff he will give her later will shrink the tumors.  Please pray she gets a good result from this treatment.  Conventional medicine is offering no help at all for her, and we feel we have to try to find her some help.

She still is getting nothing from Social Security, and the bills just keep on coming............ :-\

Thanks for all your prayers!  We couldn't make it without  those!

Conventional medicine doesn't always work and Herbal therapy is the next step to try. I saw a program on PBS last night on Alternative Medicine here in the USA. Janet I would be open to Alternative medicine and would, also, do a lot of research on-line about the different things Beth will be taking.  This would be to keep up-to-date and not to be taken in by some who specialize in being shams.

I pray that these things will work for Beth.

I had a cousin who was diagnosed with some type of cancer (pancreatic maybe) and he was not given much hope.  He turned to Alternative medicine...and coffee enemas was one of the things I remember.
That was 25-30 years ago and he is still kicking.
I even think he made it in some kind of medical journal.

I understand about avoiding certain food products. One of the medications I take requires that I eat no grapefruit, which I dearly love. I'm out of the medication and have been for about a week, so while I'm waiting for the mail to bring the new supply, I may purchase one just for old times sake.

Also another medication can't be taken within 6 hours of ingesting milk or dairy products.

Most certainly it's important we know our limitations and try our best to live within them.

Beth and your family have my prayers.

Thanks for all your prayers, they mean so much!

Jeanne, Beth and John were on Yahoo earlier, but I missed them.  They are in Utica, near Syracuse, in upstate New York.  John told Beth she doesn't know what snow is, and I imagine they did get plenty of it today.  I hope they log back in before I go to bed.

I talked to John and Beth on Yahoo this morning, and they had 14 inches of new snow there.  They had been to a really good Western Music Show, and had plans today to go to some kind of Haunted House.  So they are having fun.

John said his Mom really likes Beth, and that they are getting along great.

Here I come again, with another prayer request for Beth.  The Social Security people seem in no hurry to expedite her claim for disability, and she has now been terminated from her job, "for overstaying her leave of absence."  She was getting some help from Social Services, enough to buy groceries and a few necessities; now they have stopped ALL help.  So her income is now $00.00 with no relief in sight, to the natural eye.  Of course, her bills keep right on coming....

Her Dad had planned to take her to Texas for the alternative treatments, her appointment was for yesterday.  But he had an emergency hernia operation, complicated with heart problems and isn't able to take her.  I called the clinic yesterday to inquire as to what the week's treatments might cost, got some little girl who knew absolutely nothing; left word for them to call me---no call back. :-\  It gets very frustrating.

Please pray with me for some relief in this situation.  Please pray that she will get her SS Disability so she won't continue the downward spiral in her finances.  We cannot afford to support her much longer, and her Dad can't, either.  Thanks so much.

I want you to let go of something.....then My love will be revealed in action.

                        ...................

Thank-You Lord Jesus.

Help us to hear Your voice amid the turmoil.

Please Lord bring an answer to this serious need of Beth's and her mother's. We do not understand why we have to wait sometimes but You will be glorified in the waiting.Show Beth whether to reach out again towards the Benefit system make a path for her through the deep waters I pray and give her the help she needs, be it materially or physically.

You said that sometimes we do not receive because we ask amiss.  Please show Janet what to ask for here.
Your Ways are not our ways Lord.  They are beyond our searching out.
Oh Lord Jesus Beth needs help and that "right early"...

Please Lord give Beth a miracle.

The One You want her to have.

Praise you Lord Jesus that You always do everything well. Thank You Lord Jesus...We wait expectantly for You to act.Not as we would Lord, but as You will.

Also Lord, I pray for Beth's Father...these are but the "outskirtings of Your ways"...

Amen.  Amen.

Janet

Thanks you dear friends, for all your prayers.  Yes, Jenny, sometimes I struggle with what to pray for, specifically, and try always to ask for whatever is God's best in this situation.

I was finally able to contact someone who could answer my questions at that clinic yesterday, and was told the week's treatments will cost approximately $2000, not including transportation and meals, of course.  They faxed me some information on motels nearby.

I talked to Gunther (Beth's Dad) again, and he says that even though he doesn't have the money just now, he wants us to go ahead with the treatments, and he will borrow the money if necessary.  This is a miracle in itself; because all of her life, he has almost ignored Beth, even though she adored him.  He is mellowing, I guess---whatever it is, I am thanking God for it!  He talked to me for nearly two hours, giving me the blow-by-blow of his last hospitalization and his heart problems.  He is 73, and not in good health any more at all, which is another worry.

Maybe Darrel and I will take Beth; he really doesn't want me to go alone, I don't think.  I may check on flights from Amarillo, but that is almost half-way there, so..........what to do?

Sorry, didn't mean to get so long winded here.   :-[

Thank-You Lord Jesus for Beth's Father and for the "outskirtings" of Your ways..

Thank You Lord for the bigger Miracle than we could work out which is taking place right now..."Mercy and Truth are met together" Lord.

Please "open His eyes" and give him the joy of Your salvation. We have all sinned and come short of Your glory Lord.

Janet, it is so painful to see our children struggle.  Beth is fortunate to have you and Darrel to stand beside her and help her so much.  I will continue to hold you all in my prayers.

Janet

Beth's refrigerator quit working this week, and of course, no money to repair or replace it.  Also, it had leaked and has ruined the floor of a whole room in her trailer........ :(  It seems the enemy loves to kick you when you are down.

We had to give her money for food this week; she has nothing!  Why can't those people at Social Security get her claim approved??  I just do not understand all this delay..........she has not been able to work for over a year now!

She had run out of her pain med, and we had to get her some more, as the pain in her back was becoming unbearable again.

Sorry to complain..........I will shut up and go pray.  And please, would you pray for her, too?

Janet, do not fret, "be anxious for nothing but by prayer, supplication and thanksgiving let your request be known to God and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus."

Social Security always denies the first application and sometimes the first appeal, but you have to persevere they will eventually approve her claim. I have known of people who have fought with them for 3-4 years. I fought with them for 4 years and never did get mine. Then others have been approved in just 5 months. So just keep on appealing her claim and do whatever they ask even if you have to take it to a Judicial hearing.

I will keep on praying. Can she apply for food stamps until this goes through? Tell Beth we love her

Oh JANET...I know how frustrating and discouraging this can be.  >:(  I am, and have been, praying for Beth through all this mess with SS and health providers (or not) and medical/physical problems.   :-*    There may be more expense to hire a lawyer, but remember they have information and contacts that you don't have.  They'll get the job done.  Also... I understand that, WHEN the money comes through it will be retroactive!  That'll pay the bills that are accumulating now.  Our God is an AWESOME God and He knows just when and how much to provide for your every need.  You're His favorite, after all!  (So is Beth)  :-*

Janet - there isn't much more that I can add re: Beth's situation, except to say that I am joining you and the others here in praying for Beth and the S.S. situation.

I know of people here who have been rejected from getting disability insurance., and they have had to appeal more than once.  And as others have stated, it does come in rectoactive once its approved.

A lawyer just might be the answer.  What about Legal aid?  Lawyers here give you 30 minutes free, and then tell you if you have a case or not.

Shop around....you just might find a similar situation.

I'll be praying!
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Janet

After an awful, miserable night of no sleep, and a day of trying to sort out some of these problems, I can report the following.  Beth has contacted a national law firm who do this kind of work, and they are to call her back on Monday.  They do it all via phone and computer, so no traveling will be required.  She also went online to state her intentions of appealing again.  I found the copies of the papers from the doctor they claim they never got--I will re-send them again with requested proof of delivery.

And she is eligible to receive commodities which will help with her food bill, has to take some sort of proof of income/no income in on Monday.

I pray things get moving soon, this is putting too much stress on all of us!  Thanks again for your prayers.

Janet, good for you sending the doctor's reports (again)with the requested proof of delivery.
I've sure learned that the hard way.  I send everything now...the extra fee is worth it...with delivery notification.

I'm still praying for Beth.  And you too, hon.  Moms suffer when they see their kids going through pain.  Aren't you glad that God created mom's and knows their hearts inside and out.  So He doesn't mind at all if you fall in a heap bawling.  As long as it's in His arms you fall.

Someone once said that God is never late.  Never early, but never late.  Sometimes it just feels like it's getting pretty late.   I'm glad you are able to come here and talk about it.  You need that.

   Will continue praying.

Janet

Nita, you are so right about that!  Where could I go for prayer, if not for my dear CP family?

Yes, Moms carry many burdens for their kids, no matter the age of the "kids."  Beth remarked to me this week "Well, I figure you won't let me starve or freeze to death."  So I reminded her that God loves her even more than I do, and He is her ultimate Provider.

We have to take her to Amarillo again on the 17th for a follow up appointment about that thyroid irregularity.  That doctor is still concerned about the possibility of cancer.  Pray for a good report on that, please.

Janet, I imagine the waste baskets in the offices handling the SS Disability claims must be very large and very full as it seems not having all the papers they need is a ploy they use quite often.  Pat experienced the same thing about six months after applying they wrote and said she hadn't submitted certain information.  She had and they either had destroyed it or hadn't bothered to read what they had.  She resubmitted and continues to wait to hear from the people.

I am glad that Beth has contacted the law firm as they know how to deal with these people.

Larry Hanna

I appreciate the concern for Pat but her situation is nothing compared to that faced  by Beth and perhaps your sons, Ruth Ann.  Fortunately we are not dependent upon her Social Security, although it helps out.  Getting disability would only mean about $100 a month more than she gets in SS now.  It was the lady at the SS office when she applied for her regular SS who later called her and told her she should apply.

Al Moak

Father, we're still looking to You to take care of Beth's needs and to move SS to act appropriately.

Janet

We took Beth back to Amarillo yesterday.  Dr. Usala still is very concerned that she may have thyroid cancer.  He also thinks the nodules of the Neurofibromatosis is secreting a substance that is causing her to have almost constant diarrhea.  This has been going on for nearly three years now.  They did more blood tests and another scan of her thyroid, and made an appointment with a GI Dr. for a colonoscopy.

We plan to take her to Texas for those alternative treatments the second week of March.

She has a lawyer now, who should be able to expedite her disability claim with SS.  At least we are praying that will be the case.  Her gait is much worse now; she can barely get around.  Yesterday, she fell again.  She walked very slowly, holding onto her cane with one hand and my shoulder with the other hand.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep praying for Beth.

Thank you so much.

Thank you, Jenny and Marilyn for the prayers.

Just a word to clarify.....Beth cannot feel her feet, that is the reason she falls.  They told us the NF nodules that are growing inside her spinal column are putting pressure on her spinal cord, and that is the reason for the numbness she is experiencing in her feet and lower legs.

As a mother with children with disabilities, I can certainly empathize with both the struggles Beth endures, but with the emotional pain for family members as they pray for strength, financial resources, and guidance as to how much to do and when to do it.

Ruth Ann

Janet

Ruth Ann, your post comes at a time when I most need to hear that someone out there is still praying for Beth.  Last night, I was feeling so sad, because I had taken Beth to a show at our Civic Center, and after walking through the show, she was dragging her feet so badly she barely made it back to the car.  Her back was also giving her a lot of pain.  So I couldn't help wondering how long she will be able to get around with a walker, and what next?

And of course, the emotional and financial drain continues, too.

There are several of us here on CP with daughters and sons with disabilities, and I know all of us appreciate prayers for our "kids."  Thank you so much.

Janet, you have expressed the situation very and be assured that I do remember Beth and you and your family in my prayers.  It is hard to understand why things like this happen to our loved ones.  Hopefully we can encourage and support each other in prayer in the months and years ahead.

Janet

It will be six weeks tomorrow since Beth got notice of her approval for disability, but no check yet.  She ran out of groceries entirely before saying anything; so I took her to the store and we bought some stuff, also put gas in her car.  She was driving with the warning light on.

We would appreciate your prayers that the check will come SOON.  Thanks so much.

Janet, perhaps another call to the Social Security Office would be in order to be sure everything is on track.  It seems they should be able to tell you exactly when the check would be issued.  Do hope the check arrives soon as I know she doesn't need this additional worry.  It is interesting to note that the people processing all of this paperwork are getting a regular paycheck!

Janet

You're right, Larry.  Beth did call the Dodge City office, and they said it is out of their hands and they have no idea when she can expect a check.  If it is too much longer, I will call the national number.  I just hate staying on the line so long, waiting for all the "if you want.........press....etc."

She got some groceries today from the Loaves and Fishes, our local food pantry that is run by the ministerial alliance.

Janet, I strongly suggest you or Beth write to your Congressman about this delay.  They will just forward such a letter to the Agency but I know from my own work experience in Washington, D.C. that Congressional correspondence always got prompt attention.  Even a call to the office of your Congressman might help.

Carol

Janet:  So sorry to hear of all the delays and problems with Beth's check.  Good to know that she now has food in the pantry.  Hugs for Beth and prayers as well.  Carol

Thanks for your suggestion, Larry.  I will do that!  Can't hurt, right?  And since the friend in the Dodge City office has done all she can, and gotten the approval, such a letter will not cause any problems for her personally, will it?  After all her kind help and caring, I surely don't want to do anything to hurt her.

Thanks for all your prayers and caring.  This, too, shall pass.

Janet, I don't see how it could have any reflection on the friend in the Dodge City office.  She is no longer involved and has done her job.  While the Congressman's office probably won't do anything directly, agencies usually have very strict controls on Congressional Correspondence and when something is forwarded by their staff to an agency it is controlled and has to be responded to in a limited period of time.  I would think the SSA would prefer to write that the payment has now been made rather than to give excuses.

We have just arrived back home after a long day.  Beth saw her neurologist, who was stunned at the decline in her ability to walk.  He has ordered another MRI of base of skull and brain.  He knows there is a narrowing of the bone where the spinal cord passes through the base of the skull and thinks that is where the broblem is coming from, causing her decline.  He is optimistic that if that is the case, she can be helped.  If the MRI shows what he suspects it will, we will have to take her to either Lubbock or Dallas to a sub-specialist.  The MRI is scheduled for June 3.

The other doctor she saw today was her indocrinologist.  He thinks now that she does NOT have thyroid cancer.  He has conferred with a Neurofibromatosis specialist in Canada about Beth; and also sent her biopsy slides to a specialist at Baylor, and they bot agree that it is not cancerous.  So at least we had that good news today.

Thank you all for your prayers.  Both doctors also advised her to apply immediately for Medicare, since she will be losing her medical insurance in about a year, and cannot afford to be without coverage, considering her prognosis.

We love and appreciate all of you for caring and for praying.

Thanks so much.  I do have a little information to add now.  I called Charlotte at the SS Office on Thursday, and she said Beth should be getting her first check by June 23.  She said the lump sum payment for the back months may arrive any time.  So that will be such a relief for her to have some money again.

Janet, at least you have an indication that the paperwork hasn't been lost in the system.  So glad that the end is in site over this matter.

Janet

Charlotte said the hold up was because they thought Beth was getting Workmen's  Comp.  She hasn't and isn't.  So she sent a statement for Beth to sign stating that.

She said Beth will be eligible for Medicare two years after becoming disabled, which is really good news because she will lose her insurance in October of next year, after they gave her a year's extension on that, so she will be covered in the interim.

I got Beth's pain prescription filled today, and when I took it to her, found she is having a terrible day.  She has loose bowels so bad she can hardly get cleaned up before she has another accident.  Of course, she can't move quickly, so that compounds the problem.  She (and I) are hoping this gets resolved before the trip to Lubbock on Monday.

She is still in a lot of pain.  Continued prayers appreciated.

Janet, it does seem you and Beth have been having your ups and downs.  That definitely would be a problem if the only thing that moves fast is your bowels.  I know that would be upsetting for anyone.  God, I pray that Beth has only positive/great days from now on.

Doctor's report on Beth

August 4, 2004

We just returned last night from Lubbock, Texas, where we took Beth to a Neurosurgeon specializing in base of skull and spinal surgery.  Our hope was that if it were stenosis (overgrowth of bone in some areas of her spine, exerting pressure on the spinal cord) that this doctor could do surgery that would help her regain some of her mobility.

The news is not good.  After reviewing her films from MRIs over the past several years, he told us she has several problems.  First, there is a large area, which appears to be a glioma.  This is a particular type of cancer associated with neurofibromatosis.  While it is a very slow-growing type of cancer, it still presents serious problems.  He does not think surgery is the best option for that, as it is scattered, and he feels that even a biopsy would endanger what mobility she still has.  Later on, he thinks perhaps chemotherapy and radiation may at least stop its progression.

There are numerous other areas, at every level in her spinal cord, of an erosion of the covering of the nerves that compose the cord.  These appear on the films as cloudy white patches against the gray of the cord itself.  He explained that this is the same condition that people who have MS suffer, causing the same kinds of disabilities.  There is really no treatment for this condition.

Other areas of concern are numerous bulging (ruptured) discs in her back, several areas of stenosis at various levels in her spine, the back pain she suffers constantly and the debilitating headaches that began recently.  Dr. Smith said hers is a very complex and troubling condition, and her prognosis is not good.  These things can cause ongoing loss of mobility, even to the point of stopping her breathing. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Dr. Smith's advice to us was to give serious and immediate thought to her living accommodations, making them handicapped accessible.  We are discussing several options at this time.  Beth cannot continue living alone in her trailer, because she can't stand long enough to prepare meals, wash dishes, etc.  She also cannot get into or out of the trailer by herself.  If there were to be a fire, God forbid, she could not escape.  Our ideas of what to do, at this time are not in sync with Beth's ideas.  And while we don't agree with hers, we do have to remember she is almost 41 years old and an adult, and has the right to determine her own future.

It has been a long journey to this point, and will get even longer emotionally, so your prayers are coveted and much appreciated.  We will keep you updated on her plans.  This doctor did write her a prescription for a wheelchair, so Medicare will pay for it.  With a wheelchair, she can move about, and it also makes her use her arms, retaining the strength she still has in her upper body.

Thank you, and God bless.

I am judging at the fair in Garden City today, and while I don't really feel up to it, I am counting it a blessing, as it will keep my mind occupied and I won't be crying all day as I would if I were here at home.  Thanks, friends, I love and appreciate you and all your prayers.

Thanks, Jeanne---it is really difficult to see her suffer so and going downhill so fast.  She says it isn't fair, that I shouldn't have to take care of her, because she promised me years ago that she would take care of me when I got really old and if I needed care.  I told her I know she meant that, but I don't need care, and she does, and that I am happy to be able to help her.  She was having really bad pain today in her back, and trying to hide it from me, but I can tell when she is hurting.  Thanks for the prayers, it is a comfort and a strength to me just knowing we have dear CP friends who do pray for us.  (((hugs)))

Dear Janet,

My heart goes out to Beth and you.  I saw an operation on television last night .  It was performed on a neurofibromatosis patient in University Hospital of Chicago.  Dr. McKinnon and his team removed a massive tumour and they saved the young womans life against amazing odds.  The tumour,  was on her spine and had overwhelmed her whole body in fact it looked as if it was part of her body. She was unable to move for the weight of it.

The team moved as one and performed this miracle. They did not give up..even though you could see them tiring during the operation.  They were so concerned to save her life.  Such a wonderful dedicated team, working together as one.

Afterwards it was strange to see a frail, tiny little body ..The 200lbs tumour had made her look so huge.
Now Lorrie (I think that is the spelling) is able to lead a normal life with her husband and little girl. She looks the picture of health and has just had another scare but it has proved negative.

I do not usually watch operations but I was led to this as I searched for another channel and I was so interested because of "our" Beth.

I know now that there is hope even for the direst condition Janet. I wasn't sure whether to post this, but I decided to as I feel it will bring hope.

"It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He can do for you."

I would like to make a dedication of the hymn "It is no secret"     Pat, for Beth...

Love Jenny.

Thank you, Jenny. Beth watched and recorded that operation several years ago, and I have watched the tape. The biggest difference between her case and Beth's is that her tumor, though so terribly massive, was on the outside of her body; while Beth has such complicated problems inside the spinal c a n a l itself.

I know that God can move mountains, and have been trusting Him for Beth's healing since she was four years old.  While it is really hard to keep up my courage at times, I know that I don't have a choice. I MUST continue to hold fast to my faith, for that is our total hope.

In the meantime, the decisions needing to be made are pressing in on every side.  Thanks for your continued prayers.

Beth handled going to church and then to Mark's Eagle ceremony yesterday quite well.  We even stopped by so she could visit her grandma in the care home when we got back to town. But then we practically had to carry her into her house. The ramp she has is much too steep. Things have got to be changed, and soon.

Janet

Thank you, Carol, and all who are praying for Beth.  She is still having a lot of pain in her back, but is pretty stoic about it.

We have been working on her place, and also looking for organizations who may be willing to help with the bigger and more expensive projects.  I took her toilet riser over and put it on the toilet for her yesterday; Darrel chopped the big weeds beside the ramp and put poison on them, fixed the porch, and measured the inside doorways and figured out how to widen them.  Mobile homes have pretty narrow doors and hallways, not too good for wheelchairs or walkers.  Darrel will also install an alarm and give her a panic button wrist thing and a necklace so she can call for help instantly if she falls.

Beth's birthday (42nd) is on August 28, and I have requested for as many who would like to, to send her a birthday card.  She has a great sense of humor, so if you like funny cards, those would be fine. ( Any kind you like, sweet or funny or whatever!)  If you want to send one, email or IM me and I will give you the address.  Thanks so much.

Beth is having more problems in moving her legs.  Yesterday she told me that it is very hard for her to get into bed.  She can get one leg up in the bed, but then has a really hard time getting the other one up.  We are thinking maybe one of those trapeze things to set over her bed would be helpful, then she could hold onto it with one hand and try to move the leg with the other hand.............Please pray for the wisdom of God as we continue to deal with the situation.

Thanks so much.

You may have alread read in NEM the good news about Beth getting help.  The nurse from home health care came out yesterday and evaluated her, filled out a stack of forms, and told her someone will be coming out three times per week to help her, and the nurse will check on her once a week.  Today, someone from physical therapy is coming to evaluate her and get her started on some PT to help her legs.

I feel this is due in large part to the continuing prayers of you dear ones here on CP.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart![/b]

Thanks so much, friends.  Beth is having a lot of jaw pain, and can barely open her mouth, so today I am taking her to see a dentist.  I do hope she doesn't have too serious problems in her mouth!  I am glad, too, that I can take her here in town instead of traveling a long way to see a dentist.  Of course, depending on what they find, we still may have to do that.  But I'm believing for the best--I'm the eternal optimist.   :)

Janet - What a wonderful mother you are to Beth...she is so blessed to have you.  How is her mouth situation today?  What did the dentist have to say?
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Janet

The dentist says she has early TMJ, and has ordered a splint for her to wear, hoping that will ease the pain.  Very expensive, and he didn't even look in her mouth!  Her teeth need attention, too. >:( :-\

The head nurse of home health came yesterday and was very disturbed when she asked Beth to walk on her walker, and saw how she walked.  (She barely can!)  Her left foot is turning in toward her knee, like a club foot now, and the nurse told her not to use the walker when she is alone, as she is afraid she may fall and break that foot.  Also, the doctor hadn't called her back as promised, so the nurse went to his office and got him on the ball!  Today he called and said Beth's neurologist had okayed some drug which should give her some relief from some of the symptoms.  So I will be picking that up for her tomorrow.  I'm not sure what it is.

Thanks for your interest and concern.  We keep on truckin' and trustin'!

Beth has been doing better since starting on the steroids, but was gainig weight, which she hates.  Then she cut down, and her pain returned and she bacame weaker.  So now the dosage has been increased again.

Yesterday I took her for another MRI, but she had leg cramps so bad she couldn't keep still and they had to stop, and will have to reschedule for another time.  She also has an appointment with an oncologist on Dec. 22.

Prayers for a good report from this consultation will be appreciated so much.  Thank you!

The hospital called Beth last night, said they were doing her pre-admittance papers, and that she is scheduled for Jan. 27 surgery.  No word YET from her doctor, though.

Yesterday she felt really well, and was able to go to the grocery store and the bank with me.  Then today she called and said her throat hurts really bad; she has pains in her chest, and cannot take a deep breath.  Five days is a long time, if she gets into an emergency state, and the specialist and hospital are 200 miles away, so please, please, pray for her!

She had felt so well lately, I was beginning to think either the doctors were wrong or that God had already intervened for her.  And HE still can!

Thanks, dear ones, for praying.  Love you all.

UPDATE ON BETH
(from Janet)

I just had a phone call from Janet from Amarillo and she said that she sure knows that many have been praying.

The surgery started at 8 am and was supposed to be 2 hours but it didn't finish until 11:15 am and she didn't get to see Beth till about 3 pm

The surgeon was expecting to find a tumor the size of a pencil erasure and he found one the size of his thumb!  And it was solid.  This tumor was in the place that only really had space for something the size of a pencil lead!

They had to remove a bit of bone in order to get this mass out and they were able to remove it ALL!

They will send it away to be sure but the surgeon on first testing of this tumor says that there was no malignancy in it!

Janet says, "Thank you all for praying!  Please keep praying!"

Pray for a supernatural quick recovery!  The doctors say that they feel that Beth will probably be able to get out of the wheel chair and start to walk again!  Praise the Lord for this news!

Beth's left eye last night was drooping quite a bit and now it's drooping more and looks very swollen so that's what Janet is going to be asking the surgeon about when she sees him.

Janet

Please accept my apology for being late in updating you on Beth.  She is continuing her recovery at home, doing well except for really bad headaches when she sits up or stands.

The doctor feels she will be able to walk again, which is SUCH wonderful news!

Beth has more hurdles ahead of her.  She has more ruptured discs in her lower back which will require surgery; also a neurofibroma tumor in her brain which is causing the drooping eyelid.  The doctor said "That isn't something you would usually want to mess with".......so I asked, if it starts interfering with her vision, can surgery be done on the eyelid?  He said yes, that an opthamologist could do that.

I will also post a prayer request about John's mother.  She really needs prayer.

Thanks again for being the wonderful, caring Christian friends you are!  (((hugs)))

Janet

I haven't added anything about Beth for some time now.  She is walking alone a little bit in the house, but uses her walker otherwise.  Today she told me her left foot is dragging again.  She tries to lift it, but says it feels like 200 pounds of wet cement.

We are taking Beth to Amarillo next Tuesday (April 26) for another MRI on her lower back, to see about those ruptured discs that need surgery.  She also is having a sonogram on her thyroid, as her endocrinologist is still concerned about the mass in the thyroid.  She can't go ahead with planning her life until she gets these problems sorted out, so we do ask for continued prayer for her.

My husband Darrel also has an appointment that same day with his urologist, and may have to have surgery before long, so if you could add a prayer for him, we will appreciate it.  Thanks so much.

Darrel has BPH (Or is it BHP?) Anyway, benign enlarged prostrate is what it is.  They have a brand new procedure called Green Light Lazer that they will use to open up the area around the  urether and correct the problems being caused by this.  I think they scheduled it for July 8.

I will update you on Beth when we get word from her doctors after they see her new MRI and complete the blood tests.  I think they took six tubes of blood from her today. :( Ouch!

Thanks for praying.

Janet

I thought it might be helpful as you pray for Beth to know some specific needs.  She needs to regain her strength, both in her upper body and her legs.  She needs a clear idea of what to do to accomplish this; therapy, plus grit to keep working on it on her own time.  Also, the steroids do not seem to be affecting her at all this time; so if there is any other medical therapy available, I am praying the doctors will have the knowledge of it.

Of immediate import, is that Dr. Cone will call her early this coming week to let us know what he found in her latest MRI.  She really can't make any concrete plans until we know this.

And of course, pray that she will turn to God for sustenance and His ever-present help.  Her faith seems to be lagging, and I can understand that; it's been a really long haul.  But we simply CANNOT give up and faint.  We MUST keep pressing in!

Thank you all so much.  :-*

Father I pray that you will  instill  the doctors and therapists with new knowledge and wisdom , new treatments that will help Beth. I pray Lord that Beth will have good results from her most recent MRI and that she will hear those results first thing tomorrow morning.

Lord please give Beth wisdom  in her decision to travel to New York to see John. If this is not part of your plan for her at this time I pray that she will make the right decision  and be within your will Father. Lord I pray that Beth's dependance on you will not falter that she will come to you  in constant faith and prayer. In the name of Jesus Amen.

Thank you so much, friends.  A couple more things I need to add:  Beth's bowels and bladder are not functioning properly at this time, so prayers for those needs will be so helpful, too.  She didn't go to church because of this problem today---she was afraid things would start to move, and she couldn't get to the restroom in time.  She said it has been a WEEK since she had a bowel movement---I told her not to let it go so long from now on!

Thank you, friends.  Our trip to Amarillo yesterday was really stressful, for me, anyway.  Diane drove her car, which is a Yukon Denali, and it is quite a lot higher than my little Cruiser.  So it was really hard to get Beth into the car each time we had to make a stop.  It is so strange........her knees bend fine to sit down, but when trying to get her into a car, they are so stiff it is all I can do to bend them!

Anyway, Dr. Usala said she looked MUCH better, and seemed a bit stronger than 4 weeks ago when he put her back on the steroids.  She is happy that they haven't caused her to gain weight like the other kind she was on, in fact has lost a few more pounds.  She is quite thin now.  He said the tumor on her pitituary gland is quite small, and doesn't recommend any action on that at this time.  He does want her to go to a podiatrist to get fitted for some decent shoes, as she was wearing sandals that are a falling hazard.  Her feet are very wide, plus they are swollen.  We went to a sports/shoe store, and they had NO shoes in the store wide enough for her---men's or women's.  So she got some of those "crocs" which are at least more stable than sandals!  Then when we do get to the podiatrist, I hope she can get something a lot better for her.

Diane took me to Dr. Cone's office (her neurosurgeon) because when his nurse called, Beth didn't ask enough questions to satisfy me as to her condition.  The nurse told me that Dr. Cone said things are basically the same, except Beth now has a herniated disc in her neck.  I asked what we can expect, and she said that he said Beth will probably soon begin having severe headaches on a daily basis.

So in light of all these things, I am glad she is going to New York, except for my concern about how they will manage to get her on and off the planess, make the changes between planes, etc.  But I have to trust the airline personnel will take care of her.  I told her to stay as long as she wants, because I doubt she will be able to make that trip again.  (Her response? "I don't see why not!"  :-\ :'(

She and John have big plans:  a carriage ride through Central Park in NYC; a helicopter flight over NYC; a trip to Niagara Falls.  Well, I hope they can manage to do those things, as it will likely be a once-in-a-lifetime memory making trip for Beth.

Anyway, sorry to be so wordy, and thanks again for keeping us in your prayers.

Thanks, Janet, for sharing your concerns.  I know this has to weigh heavily on your heart but there comes a time when we just have to let go and let God.  Beth will learn, on her own, just what life is all about.  I pray John will be able to assist her in and out of transportation, etc.  Our Father has everything in control but we, too often, continue to be concerned for our loved ones.  Time and experience will "educate" Beth.  I am continuing to keep ALL of you bathed in prayer.  While Beth is gone will be a good time for you to take care of YOURSELF and get some much needed rest.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Nita

I so agree with what Jane just said.  Maybe this trip will be some of the times and experiences Jane mentioned, that will "educate" Beth.  She needs to know for herself what she can and can't do.  She seems to believe she can do this.  She knows her body more than anyone else, I guess.  At least she isn't afraid to get away from her support, being mom, and go for it.

Janet, I'm still praying.  I pray, with the others, that while she's gone, you can get some rest.

Ruth Ann Bice

Janet, my prayers for Beth, John, you, Darryl, Diane, and all those who love Beth. Yes, this is a most difficult time. But, I'll be praying that He, in His infinite love and wisdom, will guide her as she goes and direct the hearts, minds, and hands of those who give her assistance.

And, yes, this may be the time you need to draw strength for yourself. You may be able to rest your arms and weary body, and trust God to do the best with and for Beth.

Again I say Thank You for all the sweet prayers for us.  I am hoping that my arm will heal up during that time, too.  Each time I have a few pain free hours, I have to do something that causes it to hurt again.

I agree this will be a good respite time for Darrel and me, and also think that it will give Beth and John a clear idea of what their lives together will be if they go ahead and marry.  This is still "in the works" and if it is possible, I would be so happy for Beth, as everyone needs someone special in their lives who will love them as they are.  Jesus does, of course, but we still long for flesh and blood arms to hold us, and a person in the flesh to talk to us and share our dreams.

Her ticket is from August 17 to October 5, so that will be a good test of the strength of the relationship!
