This morning I woke up to go with John for blood tests and found him ill beside me in bed. After taking him to Hospital they have admitted him with an infection with an unknown source, The tests they have run have come up with nothing. Still he is running a fever, and is very weak. They have put him into isolation as a result of the fever.
As I know more I will pass it on.
I'll be praying Judy. Keep us informed.
Don
I am praying, as well, Judy. This can be a time of stress for you both, but definitely a time for our Father to show you His love and comforting presence. Lean back into His arms and let Him have control. <3
Thank you. I am heading to bed it has been a long day. I was just talking to John and he was sounding a bit better.
Judy, I will be praying for you and John. It is the unknown that is so difficult to deal with. Glad to know he is feeling better and hopefully his hospital stay will be a short one.
Judy: My prayers for you and John for healing and comfort.
Thank you folks for praying.
Jesus says 'I heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease' and 'he is moved with compassion'- I have prayed and asked in Jesus Name...It is in his hands....Believe and give thanks for receiving...
Well I have found out that it was the family Doctor who had John admitted. They did a bunch more tests. The results won't be in till late today. I expect the Doctor will be in after those results are in.
I am sitting as Janet did waiting....waiting...waiting. You know this round I am not impatient with the waiting. God is in control and I am excited to see what He is going to do.
I've also begun to pray for John. May his recovery be blessed with no complications, and may each member of your family be uplifted during this difficult time.
Judy I am also praying for John.
OK This is what I know.
1. The reason for the gowning up is because he is being tested for MRSA. This is testing for antibiotic resistance. Apparently because he travels so much to the USA where this is a big problem they think he has it. (If he does so do I as it is very contagious).
2. He is having an ultrasound of his leg. What this is to show I really don't know.
3. There is a possibility that he has cellulitis (sp?). What that exactly is I really don't know. I will look it up tomorrow.
4. His right leg has a rash on it that started about the size of the bottom of a can of soda. It has now spread to cover 3/4 of his leg. It is hot to the touch. Also he cannot put his weight on it.
This is all I know which is not very much. I hope I know more by tomorrow might. I am tired so I am off to bed.
Thank you for praying.
We surely hope and pray for a quick recovery for John, according to God's will. I know a bit about MRSA, so will know better how to pray.
OK he has had the ultrasound and thanks be to God there are no blood clots in his leg. also the redness is going down. Hopefully I will know more tonight. He sounds good, Not enough to eat though, not enough to geed a chicken. Our chickens eat more! I guess the fact that he is hungry is a good thing.
Once again we know more of what John doesn't have. He doesn't have MRSA. He doesn't have blood clots. He is having an echo of the heart tomorrow, I will be there for that. As to his leg.........We don't know. Speculation still is Cellulitis.
We complained about the small portions of food that he is getting and found out he is on a 1200 calorie diet. I think they are upping his food. I certainly hope so.
Hopefully we will know more tomorrow.
Sorry that John is in the hospital, you can be sure that the doctors are working hard to find out what is wrong in order to treat the cause.
Will be praying. Ruth
Oh Father, grant to both Judy and John Your peace. Help them to realize anew Your Sovereignty over all things. Help them to realize anew that even these things work for good to them who are called according to God's purpose. Oh grant them, at just the right time, to see Your purposes in all this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thank you for that AL.
The doctor is gradually eliminating things. They did an echo of John's heart to see if there was infection in the heart valves. There isn't. They are also checking his bowels to see if there is any infection there. The mess on his leg is darker and blotchy. His calf and foot is swollen and there is pain when he walks.
I am going to the hospital early tomorrow. I want to be there when the doctor gets there. That is usually around 1:30. I hope to know more at that time.
holding you in my prayers.
This is Saturday night. With the news that the doctor is looking at autoimmune problems we are wondering how, why did this happen. The redness in John's leg seems some what better. So we'll see on Tuesday what the Doctor says. Please continue to pray. It is much appreciated.
Waiting ... and wondering ... is always difficult and the unknown can be confusing. Our minds tend to run to all sorts of scenarios ... but GOD ... can keep you in perfect peace during this time. He has the answers and the solution and He's never wrong. Nor is he ever late. Hang in there, Judy. God is still in control.
Judy, my heart joins with yours in upholding John in prayer. I certainly know about the waiting.....and waiting......and also about how our wonderful Lord surrounds us with His peace, even in the midst of the storm.
Don't you remember a few years ago, when Pat fell and skinned her knee, then developed cellulitis in that leg? It is a bad actor, for sure.
I'm keeping John, you and your family in my prayers.
Thank you all for your concern and prayers. Yes I remember that with Pat.
This with John is really strange. During the day when he is walking around the "rash" is almost completely gone. In the evening when he is relaxing the colour returns. By morning it is the colour of liver. Then again as he gets walking and moving the colour dissipates down to almost nothing. It is so strange. He is up and around now and the colour is receding.
Doug is here today and is helping with some of the heavier chores.
Thank you for continuing to pray.
We continuing to think of you and John, is he home from the hospital yet?
Yes he has been home since Friday.
still Praying for John here.
We still don't know what is wrong. We were at the doctor today and he has ordered compression stockings, and has sent a referral to a specialist.
Judy - I wear special compression stockings these days. They're specially woven, with compression varying acording to the measurements made by Vector Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. I apply 99% pure aloe vera to the legs every night, and that seems to help a lot. This application also prevents the specific areas from opening up and becoming open wounds. I apply the stuff very thickly.
Cor, Judy lass, I don't know what to make of that one, there's some strange illnesses going about and the doctors just don't know where to begin, then one day the symptoms just disappear as suddenly as they come, like it never happened in the first place. I think the diet was to test for food alergies, Margery's had things like that, not in her legs, but symptoms that have baffled the doctors, and then over time they have simply gone, hope that's the case here. So here's a get well soon in Christ Jesus, from Michael.
I'll be praying, Judy.
Thank you all for praying.
Well I have more troubling news. John's mom has been admitted to hospital with a fractured bone in the back of the pelvis, (the area that she sits on). She fell last night, a slow fall, that caused the problem. Unfortunately she cannot support her weight when standing.
This is just one more stressor for John and I.
About John the doctor has prescribed compression stockings. His next appointment is September 25, so he will be off work till then. He needs a Doctors note to go back to driving.
Sorry to hear that news Judy. Will be adding John's mom to my list.
Hang in there, God will work things out.
Don
I'll be praying for both of them, and for all of y'all, too, Judy.
John will be off till at least the 25th of September. There is news on the compression hose...a letter has been sent but they won't tell us what the outcome is because of the freedom of information act!!! It will be another week before we get the letter. Meantime we wait, and wait and wait.
Judy, I am praying for both of you to be undergirded, and strengthened. God's richest blessings to you.
Thank you. This has been a rough day. John's compression stockigs have been denied by benefits. Not sure how we are going to get them. God will provide.....
Check your Email.
OK We have problems back. The red in John's leg is bright red. He feels like he is running a fever as well. We had our DIL nurse here last night and she has marked the red, and is suggesting a second opinion. We go into N.Bay tomorrow, and I am hoping to wait till then to go into the hospital. There is one area that is a solid red. Renewed prayer is appreciated.
Most definitely,Judy. I pray our Father will guide the doctors, and any other professionals involved, to the exact cause for this invasion of John's system, and that He will keep you all in perfect peace about the situation.
Father God, comfort these, your people, and hold them in the very palm of Your hand, as they await your perfect will.
Judy, I am sorry these problems continue. I cannot understand their denying something as simple and non-invasive as compression stockings! >:(
Prayers for both of you continue.
Continuing to pray here Judy.
OK Things have got critical. John's temp has spiked, his body is really hot. I don't have a thermometer to know how high. I have to take him to the hospital, but want to hold on for 4 hours as Kass has an appt in town as well. What a problem, Also he won't want to get up at this hour of night.
I will keep you posted.
Our Father in heaven I pray that John's faith in you and casting all his cares on you will cause blessing and recieving of his health and wellness...We know that you are good and you love us and want nothing but good for us-for you are love-I pray ask and believe this in Jesus Name-the Name above all other names, Amen...
Judy, don't wait!!! Take Kass with you. John's health is more important that an appointment. Sorry Sis. Been there, done that in years gone by and came to realize that time is important in these circumstances.
So get into North Bay!
Prayer for John and all of his medical team - prayer for Judy and the girls.
Praying here Judy.
Don
Judy, phone me when you can, ok sis?
And Pat, please let the rest of us know what is happening, will you?
Ok Here is the update. John has been re-admitted to the hospital. We found out we have semi-private coverage so we are taking advantage of it.
We went into Emerg and the doctor...same emerg doctor as the last time...has re-admitted him. By the time we got up his temp was gone and at the hospital it was back to normal. The doctor said that 3 doctors on the case are totally baffled. No one knows what is going on. This time the redness has intensified in the ankle calf area, but there is spreading up toward the knee. Also there is a red blotch by his inner thigh......The size of a soda can. (That is new). John is getting really ummmm irate at the lack of answers. If he had an appendix attack they would know what to do and he would be able to get well. Not knowing what this is there is nothing we can do to speed up recovery.
I have made a list of questions for the Doctor. One is Why not do a CAT scan of his leg and see if that shows something. Another is Why not do a biopsy of the red area and see if that answers any questions.
Unfortunately there are more questions again than answers. HE is on IV antibiotics and steroids. I am not sure that is good for him...will that just mask the real problem. They keep asking if he has been out of the country. Yes he spends more time in the US of A than Canada...What does that mean?
Unfortunately the Family Dr. is out of town and up here the doctors who look after him will maintain the status quo. They won't go against the original doctor.
I made a suggestion that we go to one of the teaching hospitals down south. If we do that we cannot mention that he has been under care up here in the north or they won't even look at him. I suggested that he get a note to go back to work and go to a hospital in the USA, and get the care he needs. Only problem with that is I wouldn't be there for him.
This is getting to be an epistle.
Going to bed really tired
Judy
Oh Father, I pray You will give the insight that's needed to the doctors, and, Father, move the doctors to deal with it immediately. Oh Father, here are my brother and sister, and I pray You'll take care of them in this emergency through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Judy! Judy! Judy! Ya know I am praying for you guys, doncha?
Yes I know you are praying. Al Thank you. Everyone thank you. :'( :'(
Less tired this morning.
This is the report from John this morning. He added to the list I started. The doctor took the time to listen and respond to the points on the list. Concerns that didn't apply he took the time to explain why.
They are doing a bone scan today. He isn't ruling out osteomeylitis (sp) as that comes with an old bone injury. Yes there was a severe bone injury December 2001, when he was caught between 2 cars. The bone scan will determine if there is any infection in the bone. If there is there is another test they are doing.
It is again a waiting game to get test results.
Judy, you and John will be in my thoughts and prayers. The unknowing is so difficult.
OK I am just home. The bone scan takes 3 days so he will be in Hospital maybe 4 days before we know if there is an infection. That is started tomorrow I think. If there is a bone infection, they will do another test to determine what the infection is. His spirits are better today. He is pleased with the Doctor. Other than that ...........Waiting.
Thank you Larry and everyone else for praying.
Hi Judy,
Thank you for hooking me directly with CP and thank you for all the information. I had no idea. I have read all the posts and will be praying to our Heavenly Father for insight into the problem and healing for John. Try and get rest yourself.
God bless
Love Ruthie
John had one scan done today. This is not the 3 day scan. If they don't find infection in the bone he will be coming home on Sunday with oral antibiotics. If they do find infection in the bone, they will order the next scan. The "stuff" needed for that one will be ordered from Montreal. That will take a couple of days. Then the scan will take another 3 days. He is on IV antibiotics...1000mgs 4 times a day. Heavy dose. He hasn't slept since he got there just a bit of dozing here and there.
HE complained today that he is experiencing dizziness. That could be the meds, The lack of sleep, or the shot they gave him to put die through his veins. Who at this point knows.
I am heading to bed soon, will be back tomorrow.
Judy, I'm praying now. What a trial for your family. Bless them, Father.
Judy, thanks for keeping us informed. I am sure you are letting John know that we are praying for him and pulling for his swift recovery.
Having just been through it, I well understand the frustration of not knowing....and waiting.....
I pray our Father enfolds all of you in His loving arms and brings peace and healing sleep.
Yes I am letting him know you folks are praying. Thank you for that.
I am praying that the knowing part comes soon and the curing part comes fast! God Bless You Both, Judy and Bonesy!
Dear Judy! I, too, have been through similar times waiting for answers. I'm praying for knowledge and wisdom for the doctors and for our Father's strength and comfort for you and John, and all the family. Love you!
Thank you everyone.
They gave John the IV antibiotic today and hie hand blew up. HE call the nurse and they had to move the IV quickly and work on bringing the swelling down. WE expected this as his hand was red and sore yesterday. At least it was an item that they could move quickly on.
Here is another one quietly praying for you and John. Judy: Don't be afraid to ask for other opinions and keep asking - which doctor deals with these cases. Perhaps a place like Mayo Clinic is in order - that is not to say that there are other places that can diagnose just as well and even better in some cases.
Carol with the Canadian system we cannot do that. We have one doctor and unless he makes a referral we are stuck with him. This Dr wouldn't even give us a referral for Kassie to go to physio for her ankle. If we go to another doctor, the old boys club kicks in and we are out of luck anyway.
That makes it tough, Judy! But you do have the assurance of so many prayers and the knowledge that in this as in all things, the Lord is in control.
We are coping. Thank you Jeanne. John and I say a great BIG thank you to those folks here who are praying. I am sure I don't know all who are. It is so appreciated. I will try to not get as discouraged.
John was told that he will likely be staying in Hospital longer than tomorrow. No reason given. Also the doctor today has said they are treating him as having cellulitis. They are making sure there is not infection in the bone. At last we have at least a partial diagnosis. The scan will give the balance of the diagnosis I am sure.
Again Thank you
OK Really good news. There is no infection in the bone! God has answered prayer.
The final diagnosis is that John has Cellulitis. Now that can be a lengthy healing process.... But not as long as A bone infection.
All I can say is AT LAST!!
Out darling DIL has said that there is a possibility of another week or two in hospital. BUT they may kick him out with heavy duty oral antibiotics.
He has to have another test on Wednesday for MRSA. Apparently ( according to the lab tec) that is a 3 part test. We need 3 negative results before he is deemed clear. 2 have come through clear....1 to go. Till then everyone who goes to see him has to gown up and wear gloves and face mask.
God is/has answered prayer in wisdom for the doctors, now to pray for continued healing for John.
To everyone who is, and has been praying THANK YOU.
Wonderful news, Judy! I'll continue, of course, with prayers for John's healing and for you as well.
Judy, I agree with Jeanne that you have received very good news on it not being bone infection although he has a very serious problem to contend with.
Amen...thank you, God!
Continuing to pray here, Judy ...
Judy: That is good that there is a partial diagnosis and we all hope & pray that there is healing beginning.
I am waiting for a phone call - the microwave door is damaged (the seal) but is only a few days from the warranty ending that was at the beginning of this month. So - at least $110 to put the new door on it to be safe.
Called & am verifying our cabins rented for our family reunion which is at the end of every Sept. My wish was that all of us could gather & the children are all for it - we have to have separate cabins though with 13 of us.
Walked this morning - my leg is aching (from an episode running from the dog to shut the garage door, it is a long story & I am much too old to be trying to beat a dog in a race) Limping a tiny bit. We are going to a place for a fish lunch that will give me a deep discount this month (my birthday month). First, Don has to nap to rest up to go - I will be happy when he is off this med and truly happy if he can hear music again. I went alone to church.
JOHN IS HOME!!!
He has come home with a weeks worth of antibiotics. Now lets see how they work out. I am hoping this saga ends.
What wonderful news, Judy. This trial and error process sometimes takes months -- I've just gone through that.
May the Lord be with each member of your family.
Judy, I pray that John is healed, whole and completely restored in Jesus' name.
Praise God for answered prayers!!
Judy, tell John he absolutely must heal quickly and get back on the road. I'm looking forward to that meeting with him at Scotty's! :D
Judy: Everyone is thankful to read that John is home because he will heal better at home with you and the girls.
Must say, I was writing in here previously and forgot where I was replying and just went on and on - my apologies to you.
Carol no apologies.... It was interesting reading. A welcome diversion!!!
Jeanne he has read your invite. Everyone thank you for all the continued prayer.
John is having trouble walking. His feet are very sore and his leg whenever he walks swells up and becomes red again. This is so frustrating to him.
Judy, did John's release instructions give him things to/not to do? Goodness, seems they need to communicate better--or something! Prayers continue.....
There were no instructions leaving hospital.
The antibiotics are now done. We will see if he has had enough. If there is a fever spike he will be right back to emerg. [sigh]
I'm surely sorry to hear this, Judy. Yes, I'll be praying for John, you, and the rest of the family. What a difficult time!
Judy: Now it is a few days since you posted last in here and I hope and pray that John's condition is improving. Thinking of you too - two.
John's leg is still swollen and still has sore spots. Our Doctor was still on holidays till today, and we need to make another appointment to see if more antibiotics are called for. He still has problems if he walks... the leg turns red and swells
Thank you all for continued prayer.
