I just had a phone call from my daughter-in-law, Terena (Andrew's wife). Her sister who is a very close friend of mine and the age of Andrew, has been rushed to the hospital with bleeding on her brain.
The family has been given a private room and have been told that a miracle is needed.
Please pray!

Re: WandaTerena just telephoned from Hamilton General Hospital and I tried to write down some notes as she sobbed on the phone. Also, her news was sort of "disjointed" if you understand.
At 10 to 2 my time (it's now 2:15), surgery was going to take place in 1/2 hour.
The neurosurgeon visited the family in their private room and told them that:
- he would be operating in 1/2 hour
- the bleeding is sort of under control but there is still some
- The bleeding is into a small cavity area and the brain can't expand into this area because of the bleeding thus the surgery
- IF she manages to survives the surgery, the family must realize that brain damage has already taken place. :(
- He doesn't know what kind of brain damage has taken place but he says that she'll definitely be in a wheelchair.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR WANDA and her husband, Scot, and the children. Our God is an awesome God and we just pray for the Lord's will to be done in this.
Wanda has six children. All but one are there with Dad. One is trying to get home from Saskatchewan. The oldest son is having a break down in the hospital as he can't control himself right now.

Pat, please know that I have been praying for Wanda ever since I saw your post on Facebook. I KNOW that our God is a miracle working God and He will do what He deems best -- for all concerned. I'm also praying for this son who is so broken right now. :(

I've just spoken to Terena and she's now out of surgery. No one has seen her yet. The part of her skull that they removed to get to the bleeding was replaced (they most of the time keep this out so that they can get back to the area quickly if they need to) so this is a wee tiny good sign.
The part of her brain affected, the neurosurgeon said, was the part that involved her speech. They were again told that she'd be in a wheelchair from now on IF she came through the next few days.

Whether by few or by many, God is able. Not by our prayers, but by His grace and mercy He does wondrous things. If there were tens of millions praying, it would be no more effective than if only one prayed, for the glory must go to God alone. He is merciful and mighty, and He can heal and will heal if it is for His glory. Oh Father, we look to You and pray Your mercy in this situation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praying for a re-creative miracle in Wanda's brain and the Ressurection life of our Saviour Jesus to quicken her entire body to complete restoration.

I was speaking to Terena and they were going to start to "wean" her off the strong sedative drugs at 10 pm but they have decided to do this now in the morning. Her parents have gone home to collapse and get rejuvenated to go back again tomorrow. Her daughter did arrive at 6:30 pm from Saskatchewan so the family circle is complete around her.
I can't believe that she's only 42!!
OK Pat keep us updated. If the Senator in the USA can come out of her injuries the way she did Wanda can as well. We will keep praying.

I've just been speaking to Eunice (Wanda's mother and my close friend) and she's updated me on Wanda's condition.
Wanda's breathing tube has been removed this morning. She's now breathing on her own.
They've been told that Wanda has
Moyamoya Disease (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moyamoya_disease) and has had all her life! It's a chromosome problem with chromosome 17 and is inherited from one of the parents! Wanda has been ill a lot in her life and they sort of blamed it on "fibromyalgia" or "arthritic condition", etc. and all along it's been this. Many of her problems have been minor TIA's and now the outcome is this major stroke.
The family have been told that if she ever speaks again, it will be a very long time--maybe years and never in a fluent way again.
So, that's the latest update.

Wanda Macfarlane was rushed to Hamilton Hospital with bleeding on the brain due to a condion known as "Moyamoya". They operated on her on Monday afternoon to remove the blood. It was quite a bit of blood, approx 2 in. x 3 in. above her ear on the left side. They kept her sedated after the sugery for the Monday night.
Tuesday, May 3rd
Wanda was breathing on her own with the breathing tube still in just for backup. She opened one eye and tried to mouth some words but the nurses had to sedate her again because she got too anxious and tried to pull her tubes out. She stayed sedated for the rest of the day and night.
Wednesday, May 4th
PRAISE BE TO GOD!
They removed the breathing tube this morning. Around 1pm she started responding to commands and speaking a little bit and asking for water. Some of the words were still slurred but there is remarkable improvement and we are so happy to see the Lord working!

I'm just home from driving Wanda's father to Hamilton. What a wonderful visit Lee Conley had! He had been "summoned" by Wanda ("Where's Daddy?") and they were able to squeeze hands.
I believe that a miracle took place today!

I was speaking to Eunice (Wanda's mother) on the telephone and she told me that today was a marvelous day at the hospital. Wanda is has almost all of her tubes out and was speaking more today! Praise the Lord.

Wanda was able to take a few steps to the bathroom. She is improving every day. She still does not quite understand what happened and why she's in the hospital. Her mind is still a little confused and she has a bit of trouble getting her thoughts to come out of her mouth properly. But the family and the doctors are very pleased with her progress and we all appreciate all your prayers. Please pray that her mind will become more clear as the days go on and that she will have a full recovery.

Paul and I went down to visit Wanda yesterday and met Angie and Eunice there. Wanda was eating well but her speech is muddled. She can get up to go to the bathroom with help.
She knew me after awhile and wanted me to hold her hand and what a wonderful strong hug she has!
Please pray that her short term memory will improve as she forgets what happened just a few minutes before but she's remembering things very well from the past months and years.
I was sad to leave her. We had a time of prayer and she enjoyed our time of hymn singing.
Judy: So often music from years before will be remembered. That was really good of you to think about singing along and helping her short term memory. Praying for Wanda.
It was Pat that sang with her. I have no voice for singing not like Pat has. But you are right and singing will help the memory as well.

Eunice and Lee are with Wanda today. Nothing much has changed as far as her speech is concerned and Eunice has emphasized that we must please keep praying regarding her short term memory and her speech. Wanda is still very much confused in her thinking. On Monday, she will be moved to another wing as she is going to start physio therapy on Monday.
Still praying here!
I am still praying for Wanda that God will completely heal her and she will be back to normal soon!

I spoke with Selina on Saturday and she mentioned Wanda is now home on weekends. She checks back into the hospital during the week to receive therapy. Her thinking process seems to be fine but putting her thoughts into words is where the problem lies. Selina also said Wanda laughs and cries easier now as well. Selina is taking over the books for Wanda which is a huge help. Let's all continue to pray for Wanda's recovery, Selina as she learns the books and for the rest of the family as they adjust to all the changes.

I just spoke to Wanda on the telephone. I was speaking to Eunice and we wondered how she would do on the phone so we tried. She did well. Her speech is still confused but when I said, "I'm praying for you, Wanda", she replied with, "Thanks! We need all the help we can get!". Eunice and I were pleased.
I will be driving down with Eunice tomorrow to spend the day with Wanda.
You know we don't understand God's economy.....if that is even the right word. Two young people, with young families, Basically the same problem, one was taken home and one remained. We cannot help but ask why they weren't both healled. God knows, and it is all to His Golry.
To God be the glory great things He has done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an attonement for sin
And opened the life gate that all may go in.
Pat let Wanda and her family know that I am continuing to pray for a complete healing for Wanda. It wasn't her time!!! Praise God!
