Title: Re: Please pray for my mother
Post by: shutterbugmom on February 22, 2009, 05:01:34 PM
I am writing to ask for prayer on behalf of my mom.  Her right corotid artery (main artery to her brain) has significant blockage.  She was told they probably can't operate due to the risk of dislodging something and causing a stroke.  She is at major risk of having a stroke, probably major.

She is having another test, an ultrasound, on tomorrow (Monday) at 10:30am.  She asks that you pray that when they look on Monday that the artery will be clear; basically that it will be miraculously healed.

She aslo has a broken big toe, please pray for that to heal quickly, as well.

Thank you so much for your prayers, they are much appreciated.

Lord I'm sure you have already heard the prayers of Kathleen and her Mom. Oh how we can feel so helpless when our loved ones are sick and in need. I want to add to these prayers and ask for healing of Kathleen and her Mom. Lord i pray that when the doctors do that test that they will be astonished that they can not find anything wrong. We know that you are the great miracle worker and with God all things are possible. We need miracles Lord and pray that your will be done and that you will be glorified.

I'm Praying!

Kathleen, please be assured that both Paul and I will be praying regarding this situation.  The broken toe can be so painful as well and a concern when you have something else on your mind that is important such as this blocked artery but what a wonderful God we adore!  We'll be praying.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and encouragement.  It will be a couple days before we know anything more.  The test went well, but the blockage was still there.

Please pray that she will not have a stroke in the meantime.

Thanks for the update Kathleen. Sorry to hear the blockage was not gone, but remember the Lord is still in charge.

Farther we don't always understand how you work and answer our prayers but we know you are Lord. Farther we ask that you put a hedge around Kathleens Mom and protect her until the doctors can figure out what to do next. We know that you can still take care of that blockage and ask that you do so now but if you choose not to we ask that you help the doctors to know the right thing to do. Mothers are special Lord so we pray for peace in Kathleens life also. We ask these things in your Son's holy name.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please take Kathleen's mother into your loving hands and put your healing touch upon her.  We declare in the name of Jesus that the blockage will leave her body!  Put your peace into her heart so that she may not worry.  Restore her body with your strength in the Lord.  Kathleen is a devoted daughter.  Bless and keep her Lord.  In Jesus name, Amen.

I thought I would drop in to update you all on my mother.  Her toe is much better and she's even back to her daily walks again.  She is having an appointment on Monday at 3pm mountain time, to discuss prognosis and possible surgery or treatment for her artery blockage.  She was able to get in with a doctor that has done surgery for this very thing on a friend of hers so she is encouraged.

I will let you all know how it goes...

Thank you all so much for your prayers!

The update I have is a little complicated, but I'll give it a go.  The doctor had first said that the risk of a stroke during surgery was more than waiting for now, due to the fact that her carotid artery is 50-74% blocked.  It varies throughout and solid 74% blockage.  Well, then the next morning, the doctor called her back after he had consulted with another neurologist and wanted to go ahead with the surgery the end of this week or the next week, due to something that happened with her eyesight that could be a TIA. (a precurser to a stroke)  We've been praying for wisdom for this doctor, so the surgery is tentatively scheduled for the 23rd pending another consult with the eye specialist and what he says.  I am assuming they are trying to figure out if the eye symptom could be attributed to something else or only a TIA.

My mom feels pretty good about the fact that this doctor is putting so much though into her case and really trying to discern what is the best course of action for her.  We should know more sometime next week as far as proceeding with the surgery or not.  In the meantime, please continue to pray that she does not have a stroke.

Thank you all so much for your prayers.  :)

I am praying here in NC.
God is a good God. He will not put more on you and your mom that you can bear. Keep your eyes on Him.
I am praying for each of you and for the doctors that God has put in charge of your mother. Also remember that God has his arms wrapped around both of you. Hold on tight to Him. :grouphug:

Father God,
Please keep your healing touch upon Kathleen's mom, and keep her heart and Kathleen's heart at peace.  You are our healer, Lord.  By the stripes of Jesus we are healed.  We declare healing and wholeness in her body in the name of Jesus.  Keep your wisdom and skill upon the doctors and medical team taking care of her mom, Lord.  We pray and praise you in Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you all so much for all of your prayers and concern!  I cannot tell you how much it means.  So far, my mom has not had a stroke and we are so thankful.  My mom's doctor has decided to go ahead with the surgery, after more thought and consulting with another doctor.  Below are the details from my mom...

"Hello,

Thank you all for your prayers up to this point; please don't stop now. My surgery is scheduled for Mon, the 23rd at about 7:30 am. It takes about an hour and a half. The surgeon goes into the neck and clamps off the artery, then runs a shunt from the bottom clamp to the top clamp to keep blood flowing to the brain. Then he makes the incision and just pulls out the plaque. He says it comes out in one piece.

The risks are small percentage wise but I could have a stroke, or some damaged nerves in the neck that will affect my face, i.e. bells palsy, bleeding at the incision site, heart attack, temporary or permanent hoarseness, numbness, or swallowing problems. We will be praying that none of those occur. The doctor is very experienced in this procedure and I know a casual acquaintance who has had both sides done.

We will let you know how things go as soon as we know something. And don't forget, whatever the outcome, to God be the glory!"

PRAISE THE LORD!!!  :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

My mom's surgery went absolutely perfect and she is doing well with no neurological damage or anything.  My mom and our whole family was at peace as she went in to surgery.  All of the prayers were felt as we were just blanketed with the peace and comfort of God.  THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your prayers.  I was able to bring her home today and so far she is doing well with her recovery.

I would ask you to continue to pray for her recovery and that she will be able to sleep since she didn't sleep at all at the hospital.  Please pray for me to catch up, too.  I was up at 4am on Monday to take her and was at the hospital, in very uncomfortable chairs for 16 hours.  I did sleep some last night, but I'm in a lot of back, neck and shoulder pain so I really need a full night of pain free restful sleep tonight.   Please also pray that her hoarseness is temporary and goes away soon.

Thanks so much for all of your prayers.  My mom's recovery has gone so well, thank God.  She is doing great!  The toe she broke, recently had to have surgery though due to the fact that the new nail was growing in under the skin instead of on top.  Something like that.  Anyway, it should heal up just fine, now.

I have a lot to be thankful for this Mother's Day!
