Title: VBS
Post by: ohenry on July 09, 2006, 09:14:57 PM
Tonight, our church will be launching Vacation Bible School with a Fiesta theme "Children fired up for Jesus".  I will be photographing the children and the events.  I'd like to ask for prayers for a successful event that does fire up children for Jesus and that some souls are moved to know him better, be them children or parents that see the gleam in their child's eyes.  Blessings to all.

Thank you, Marilyn....the opening night didn't give us as many children as we would have hoped to show up, but it seemed to go well.  I found myself caught up in the festivities and songs for the children, rejoicing our Lord as a child myself.

VBS begins at our church tonight, too.  We're a very small church - avg 75-80 on Sunday AM - and many of the members absolutely work themselves to the bone to provide VBS for anywhere from 50 to 70 kids/adults.  While I strongly desire the anointing of the Holy Spirit on their work, I would also pray for their physical strength and endurance.

Oh, VBS is so much fun!  Our church is talking about doing one this year, but it would be just 3 of us (my mom, another woman, and me) heading it up most likely which means LOTS of work.

I hope you have an enjoyable time with it, and everyone involved with any VBS gets the joy of seeing a child come to Christ.

Nards, Perhaps a prayer for VBS's across the world :)   It truely is a wonderful thing to see children who love Jesus.

Oh Father, I pray You'll graciously bless these two VBS activities with Your Presence.  I pray You'll bless child and teacher alike through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ohenry, our church used the same theme and had decorations related to the theme.  There were 201 children participating.  Because they raised $1100 for a charity project that had been selected, one of the ministers put green temporary hair dye in his hair for Sunday morning and our youth pastor dressed up in women's garb and went around to the Sunday School classes as a stranger.  He was a riot.  He had corrected his appearance before the final service.  The kids loved it and the adults got a good laugh.

Larry, I guess that the themes are pretty common amongst many churches as the material provided comes from outside sources.  Yes, VBS is a blessed event and, for many of us, brings out the child in us.  As we reviewed the events in regular services, replaying some of the songs, I caught a few people actually tapping their feet (grin...this is an aside...our congregation is mainly an older congregation that are slowly warming up to hand clapping and raising of hands during praise songs....tickles me).
