Title: Psalm 65
Post by: Al Moak on May 18, 2003, 12:14:46 AM
Psalm 65

This psalm is a quiet, joyful meditation on the grace and mercy  of God.  Right from the start the psalmist praises God for His great mercy to individuals whom He has chosen – those whose sins had condemned them, but who had been forgiven. Such praise is certainly due Him, because though He is unapproachable by sinners because of His awesome holiness, yet it was His own merciful atonement that has now made Him approachable!  Not only so, but it has actually made it possible for forgiven sinners to remain in that awesome presence – throughout eternity!

In fact, this song praises a God Who is so merciful that, having forgiven sinners, He now even hears their prayers!  He listens in love to their confessions, their petitions and their thanksgiving! With joyful voice the psalmist sings, "Blessed is the man You choose, and cause to approach You, that he may dwell in Your courts!"

Meditating upon such things expands the psalmist's mind to consider the majesty of this One Who not only forgives and hears His people's humble prayers, but yet is also Creator and Lord of earth and sea and of all nations everywhere! He's the very Lord of morning and evening! He's the God Who waters the earth and blesses it, Who provides grain so that even the wilderness, the pastures, the hills on every side, and the animals rejoice together in His provision!  In fact, the whole earth has cause to shout and sing of the goodness, wisdom, and power of this merciful Creator and Sustainer!

But what does He mean to YOU?  Is He your GOD?  If you've been chosen and moved to approach Him, then you should join with all creation in praising Him and thanking Him today!

The thanks are not due to me, but to God.  And also to you, because it is indeed a great encouragement when God blesses others through these psalms.
