Title: Not artistic, but personality
Post by: Ellette on May 08, 2006, 11:27:50 PM
Well, I was trying out a fabric I got in the hopes that it would work as a background in hospitals (machine washable, and really hard to wrinkle).  I just had 2 work lights is all, nothing meant for photography.  I hadn't yet opened up the lens, had it at f12 I think even...waay too stopped down for what I was wanting.  Anyway, I was just playing around hoping to get a picture of the two boys together that I could PP and see if it would work.  They had had their baths and were ready for bed, but any excuse to stay up a minute more and they are thrilled.  This was one of the only pictures I managed to get the two of them in.  Liam was trying to cooperate, but he's zoning a little and doing a bit of a goofy grin.  He has one of the most beautiful smiles, it is just almost impossible to get him to do it willingly anymore.  Tiernan, well...this is him showing his personality too.  Liam tries to do what he's asked/told but his mind wanders around like a squirrel that has forgotten where a nut was buried.  Tiernan...he figures "no" pertains to other people, but not to him and he's quite the free spirit.

So, this didn't end up being an artistic portrait by any means (I wasn't able to use a reflector to open up the shadows on the left (our right) side of Liam's face and Tiernan's...umm...hind end since I was doing it without my husband's help), but once you've seen this picture you know the personality of my two boys.   <3  It did also help me decide that I need a different background for portraits.  I'll use this with infants on a boppy pillow, but other than that, it just has too much texture and won't work for me as a background.

Sara~I would think these boys keep you very alert and "on the go" most of the time!  Cute kids and a good experiment with backdrop, etc.  Hey, I see all sorts of personality here ....  I'm not a photographer but I know fun kids when I see them.   ;)

Awww... Sara, cute lads.

I like the material.  Looks as if it would do the job for the hospital work.

Hey there Sara! What cute boys! I think the backdrop would please you more if as you said, you'd open up the lens a bit. For this photo, I would have focused on the older boys eyes, opend up the f/stop to f/8 or less (The more the merier) and let it all get fuzzy but the eyes and part of his face. This would also take care of some of the texture problem for you. Hope this is taken in the spirit in which it's given. Peace, Ritz.
