Morning Devotional...

Luke 2

Christ Born of Mary

The Birth and Childhood of Jesus
1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.
3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Glory in the Highest
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
10 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14"Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."
16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. [/list]

Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne
(Click to hear music)

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant,
and was made in the likeness of men
Philippians 2:6-7

Words: Emily E. Elliott, 1864

Music: Timothy R. Matthews, 1876

Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown,
When Thou camest to earth for me;
But in Bethlehem?s home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.

Refrain
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Heaven?s arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.

Refrain

The foxes found rest, and the birds their nest
In the shade of the forest tree;
But Thy couch was the sod, O Thou Son of God,
In the deserts of Galilee.

Refrain

Thou camest, O Lord, with the living Word,
That should set Thy people free;
But with mocking scorn and with crown of thorn,
They bore Thee to Calvary.

Refrain

When the heavens shall ring, and the angels sing,
At Thy coming to victory,
Let Thy voice call me home, saying "Yet there is room,
There is room at My side for thee."

My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus,
When Thou comest and callest for me.

Trials and Pain: Cooperate With the Inevitable

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever
state I am, to be content.
--Philippians 4:11

This idea was once expressed better by a simple-hearted man who was
asked how he managed to live in such a state of constant
tranquility even though surrounded by circumstances anything but
pleasant. His answer was as profound as it was simple: "I have
learned," he said, "to cooperate with the inevitable."...

Though we cannot control the universe, we can determine our
attitude toward it. We can accept God's will wherever it is
expressed and take toward it an attitude of worshipful
resignation. If my will is to do God's will, then there will be no
controversy with anything that comes in the course of my daily
walk. Inclement weather, unpleasant neighbors, physical handicaps,
adverse political conditions--all these will be accepted as God's
will for the time and surrendered to provisionally, subject to
such alterations as God may see fit to make, either by His own
sovereign providence or in answer to believing prayer.
Born After Midnight, pp. 64-65

"How can I complain in the light of the worderful gift of Your
Son, born to give life-and victory? Work Your will in my life
today as I celebrate the incarnation and all that it entails.
Amen."

Merry Christmas Everyone.

We had a fine Christmas celebration yesterday afternoon and a surprise visit by our step grandson, whom we hadn't seen for close to 2 years. We had planned to go to where he will be working today but yesterday afternoon the phone rang and it was him saying he was closeby and wanted to stop in. So he got to be here during our gift exchange and we had a nice visit with him, much better than we could have had while he was at work today. He graduates from high school at the end of May and goes into the military towards the end of June. We all enjoyed a good meal and time together. Pat and I will have a nice quiet day today as our daughter is going with a friend to Kentucky for a couple of days.

Let There Be Peace on Earth
(Click to hear music)

Circa 1955
Words and Music by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller

Let There Be Peace On Earth,
and let it begin with me.
Let There Be Peace On Earth,
the peace that was meant to be.

With God as our Father,
brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother,
in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,
let this be the moment now,
With ev-'ry step I take,
let this be my solemn vow,

To take each moment and live each moment
in peace, eternally.

Papa John

2003 has brought our family closer together with sickness that has been overcome. Cornelia had additional stents. I survived serious heart attacks and colon cancer. All of our family will be in before the holidays are over. God is so good to us.

Our big Christmas dinner will be about 1:00 o'clock today. The turkey is in the oven and the side dishes have been prepared. Everything is ready. I worked hard (staying out of Cornelia's way).

Our Bible reading continues and we will finish reading out loud the whole Bible on December 31st. One night this week we read I Peter and I thought how blessed we are today that we have the message of Jesus.

1 Pet 1:8-12
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,
11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
(NIV)

Merry Christmas to one and all!

Eph 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ: I pray for you the greatest possible joy in remembrance of our Savior's advent! I pray that each and every one of you will be moved to worship Him Who laid aside all His glory in order to come here to live and die for us! Oh thank Him that He is your Lord!

The Lord is here!
Oh praise His Name!
Praise Him you dumb,
and leap you lame!

Good Morning Everyone...

Just a short message to say, "Merry Christmas to you all!"

I'm up here at Janice's and we had a lovely time this morning watching the kids open their stockings! I even had one to open. It snowed overnight and the shadows are wonderful right now on the newly fallen snow as the sun is shining brightly.

I'll be leaving here in a couple of hours and then head for Andrew and Terena's home.

Talk to you later, from home.

Nice to see you Janice and also Tragicharpy.

Joy to the World
(Click to hear music)

“I bring you good tidings of great joy.” Luke 2:10

Words: Isaac Watts, The Psalms of David, 1719.

Music: “Antioch,” arranged by Lowell Mason, 1836

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Merry Christmas to all my dear family in Christ.

Blessings, blessings, blessings.....and prayers for us all that we might come to know Him with a fresh, new, first love passion. Oh, Come.......Let us adore Him. Christ, The King.

Don't forget to pray for our troops.....some being away from home for the first time...and only 17, as our Jane's grandson. I saw a little blurp on the news, showing soldiers singing Christmas carols in candlelight. It made me cry.

Just ran in the house to leave Geordie here while I go to Andrew's. They have a dog and she doesn't really care for Geordie too much.

I will be back later.

Marilyn, I just made your font a little larger as with the glow I couldn't read it very well. What fun you had watching your grandkids open their stockings! I did too.

Now, I'll be back later.
