What a contrast between the Price paid for our redemption and the sin that made it necessary!!!

Morning Devotional...

1 Peter 1:13 - 2:3 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&passage=1PET+1&language=english&version=NKJV%3A1-10&version=NKJV)

Just knowing the character of our "living Hope" should be enough cause for  striving to be like Him.  It should move us, as Peter put it, to "gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."  Think about  what you were like.  Then think about the contrast between that and the character of the One to Whom you'll be coming.

Because He is "different" (holy), we too should be different (holy).  The Price paid for our souls (Jesus) is not corrupt nor corruptible.  Yet we were aimless and, originally, worthless.  Christ is "the Lord of glory!"  In contrast to what we were is His "preciousness!"  In contrast to rebellion is obedience to God!  In contrast to sin and ugliness is beautiful righteousness!

The Price, says Peter, was the precious Blood of Christ - as of a lamb without blemish and without spot!  That Price was eternally chosen and  destined as payment for our redemption  Is THAT not sufficient motivation for striving to be like Him?  And should it not move us  to "rest our hope" upon Him?

Praise the Savior, ye who know Him
Who can tell how much we owe Him
Gladly let us render to Him
All we are and have.

I am going to go into prayers and post a praise report on Gloria, be sure to check that out too.

Good Bible Study tonight. We have been studying the book of James, We are still in Chapter 1 and have been for a month. Pastor is taking it one verse at a time.

Goodmorning ...From U.K.

Al that was a good devotional.Thank-you Pastor. Yes I do strive to be like Him and I wonder sometimes at His patience with me.  However:-

"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

"Not that I have already attained this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Brothers I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:12-14

Good morning everyone.  I got up very early this morning as woke up again having a little trouble breathing and found I couldn't go back to self.  So I said to myself, self get up and do something to get your mind off yourself.  I haven't decided yet whether I will try to go walking this morning but expect I will give it a try as by tomorrow it will probably be pouring rain.  So far we haven't gotten any sustained rain and it doesn't appear to be raining yet this morning.

I just saw the news showing the hurricane coming ashore at the Fla-Miss line.  This is really a bad storm.

Marilyn, sorry to hear that you are having more back problems.  Hope the physical therapy helps greatly.

Jenny, thanks for the Bible verses this morning as they are a good way to start the day.  We can certainly put our undying trust in our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.

Al, thanks for the devotional this morning.

I didn't have a chance to post in NEM yesterday as was busy getting my home network working after my son told me what I needed to do.  Then I spent part of the afternoon backing up my files on my desktop and installing the SP2 Service Pack for Windows XP.  I had tried it before without success from the disk I got from Microsoft.  This time I used the Update function and everything went smoothly, although it takes quite awhile to do the backup.

Following that I loaded the quilting programs Pat has onto the old laptop as she thought she would enjoy having them available there.  Truthfully, I doubt that she ever uses them there but they are available if she wants them.

A belated Happy Birthday wish to Sarah and Darin.

Mary Francis, your programs for the seniors sounds very nice and I know they must enjoy them.  It really gives one a sense of accomplishment and pleasure to participate in these types of volunteer (or any volunteer) activity as we can give without expectation of return.

Karma and Nards, I will be thinking of you all these next few days as we all get diluged with rain.  Hope you all stay dry and have no damage.

Ruth Ann, hate to hear of anyone having a toothache.  Sure the dental appointment cannot come too soon today.

Papa John, I hadn't thought about the benefit of not being able to dial out with the cable modem.  So far I like the cable internet very much.  It certainly seems reliable.  On my old network I had to reboot it at least once a day and sometimes more often.  Haven't had to do it once on this system.

Janet and Sue, I should think driving a forklift, somethng I have never done although spent a lot of time driving a tractor growing up on a farm, would be far superior to lifting 50 lb bags.  Janet, I didn't realize you had a hearing loss.  I expect my wife is going to have to have one in a few years.  So far my hearing seems to be totally fine.

Welcome Soblessed to CP.

Sonja, hope you had a nice lunch yesterday with Mike.  We should never turn down a lunch offer!  :D

Etta Sue and Papa John, when my father was in the nursing home they had a lift chair for him, although he wasn't able to sit in it very often, so I used it when I visited him as an easy chair as it was right beside his bed. (Of course, in nursing homes the rooms are so small that everything is right beside the bed!)   I was amazed at how high it lift.  I think they are great for anyone who has problems getting up.

Iain, sure nice to see you posting.  Sorry to read of your being caught in the scam.  We have similar scams run here in the USA.  Fortunately I haven't gotten caught in something like that.  I just read your writings from yesterday.  I understand your feelings regarding dying as agree with you that we need not fear it as we have the promise and certainty of eternal life awaiting for us.  It sounds like you are now coming out of the deep pit and I pray that your days will be brighter and less filled with pain and anguish.

I apologize for the length of this message but this will be it for yesterday and today.  Hope all have a good day.

Hey, guys, just a quick howdy.  It IS raining already here in WNC and there is a LOT more coming.  It is so sad to hear of people who have been hit so hard and can get virtually no relief.  Even the federal aid that is available from FEMA is only a tiny percentage of what it takes to recover.  Many people are finding that the federal government has no funding in place to "replace insurance", and those small business owners without property insurance/flood insurance are literally losing thousands of dollars worth of stuff.  The MAXIMUM federal money available for an individual is $25,600, and hardly anyone qualifies for that level.  The maximum for "housing replacement" is $10,200, with a maximum of $5,100 available for "housing assistance", which would include home repairs and lodging during those repairs.  I have heard "rumors" that most of this money is only available to folk who do NOT have insurance, but I don't know that.  The other numbers are valid, I'm very sure.

Flooding brings a level of despair and disaster to an area that I've never seen before.  Blizzards come and go but usually don't damage a lot of personal property, and likewise with wind, in our area.  Water, however, has no respect of person.  It just invades.

So, anyway.  I gotta get to work.  Pray for all of our "neighbors" as we deal with somewhere between 10-20 inches of rain this weekend (probably).

Have a great day!

Hello all!

HI NARDS!

Just buzzing in quickly to say hi.  My son is bugging me to use the computer -- he is wanting to play his motorcycle game!  Then, we will eat breakfast and go swimming.  Well, he will go stand in the edge of the water, but anyway!

Have a wonderful day, and do pray for us.  I mentioned before how we don't get bad weather in this area, and generally we don't, but this flooding is a serious situation.  Maybe when nards gets home, we can post some of the pictures from Francis.

Okay, we have started the first official day in no diapers (except when we are in the car).  We'll see . . . .

have a wonderful day!!!

Good Morning: Good to see each one of you here so early.  Today Gloria has given me the day off so that I may go to clean house for Sarah's (my DIL) client, Jan. She is 92 yrs, old and is pretty much disabled. She can't sleep in a bed but has a chair that  operates like a hospital bed.I don't have to go until 9 am so Have more time here today. Sarah does all her personal care, bathing etc., and she also has another student nurse who helps her 1 day per week. Then I will go to Fay's to cook for her.

I woke up in the wee hours this morning and could have sworn it was raining. When I finally got up to let the dogs out at 5:30 nothing was wet, It was the pine needles falling on the roof. Sure sounded like rain on the roof of the trailer. HA HA

Dental visit netted me two prescriptions (one for inflammation and one for pain) - next $$$$$$$ endodontist appt is tomorrow a.m. at 10:30. Hopefully in the rain today, I'll find some wet dollar bills - or 50s - or 100s, that magically have rained down from heaven. :-\

Hi MOO!  Now how did you get that nickname?

Nards and Karma ~ Water damage is so hard to fix!!!  It seems you have to redo to get rid of the smell alone!  Just hope and pray that your area isn't hit hard again.  Enough is enough, right?

I have been busy today so this will be short.  I have to fix my lunch and then go to the dentist this afternoon for a filling.  Ivalou cut my hair this morning and I have made my Cornbread Salad for the Small Groups Barbeque tomorrow evening.  Seems I am rushed today...probably because I have more than two things that I HAD/HAVE to do!!!!   ::)

It is cloudy today and has rained some.  I took my car out of garage in hopes to have a free wash job!!!!   ;)

Al: Good Devotional

A quiet day today.  A little of this and a little of that.  Yes we have had rain again, it sure keeps the grass green and growing enough is enough.

A belated Happy Birthday to Sarah

I had a dental appointment yesterday that also netted a large sum of money and the job is not done yet, a filling under the old crown and now a new crown.

God Bless you all

Last night, I couldn't get into CP, so I didn't even try this morning, as I had a lot to do.  Now everything is working fine, praise God.

I went over to Beth's and the computer guy was there working on her computer.  It will cost her $100, but would be more if this man wasn't a Christian friend of hers.  He seems to have gotten it all cleaned up and straightened out, IE loaded and updated and Norton Securities installed.  Thankfully, she did not have a virus.

I had planned to take Beth to lunch, the library, and the grocery store today, but when I went back to get her, she said her head was hurting so bad she didn't want to go anywhere.  So I guess I will have those things on my agenda tomorrow---if not tomorrow, they won't get done before we leave.  Her new pain med upsets her stomach and dries out her mouth.  Part of that is good, because it makes her drink a lot of water, which helps in other ways.

The medical supply man got the lift chair all cleaned up and it looks almost new.  He is going to sell it to Beth for only $250.00.  New ones are in the $1000.00 range, and Medicare only pays for the mechanism, around $350.00.  So that is a real buy.  They will probably deliver it this afternoon.

Ruth Ann, I'm sorry about your dental problems.  We were talking yesterday about all the expenses people can run into in our mature years---eyes, ears, teeth, and other more serious things that cause partial disabilities.  Getting old is NOT for sissies! :-\

I need to see if my pizza is done!

September 16

Revival: Meet God Alone First

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your
door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father
who sees in secret will reward you openly.
--Matthew 6:6

Nothing can prevent the spiritual rejuvenation of the soul that
insists upon having it. Though that solitary man must live and walk
among persons religiously dead, he may experience the great
transformation as certainly and as quickly as if he were in the most
spiritual church in the world.

The man that will have God's best becomes at once the object of the
personal attention of the Holy Spirit. Such a man will not be
required to wait for the rest of the church to come alive. He will not
be penalized for the failures of his fellow Christians, nor be asked
to forego the blessing till his sleepy brethren catch up. God deals
with the individual heart as exclusively as if only one existed....
Every prophet, every reformer, every revivalist had to meet God alone
before he could help the multitudes. The great leaders who went on to
turn thousands to Christ had to begin with God and their own soul.
The plain Christian of today must experience personal revival before
he can hope to bring renewed spiritual life to his church.  The Size
of the Soul, 15-16.

"Lord, I pray this morning the words of Jonathan Edwards: 'Resolved...
that all men would live for the glory of God; resolved, second...that
if nobody else does, I will.' Amen."

Well, today has been a quiet day here for me.  We are getting rain from Ivan and it is a kind of dreary day with a lot of clouds and almost dark outside. We are due to get more rain tomorrow and Saturday.   Cornelia has been gone almost all day.  This morning she had some kind of meeting and now she has gone to get her hair done.

Matt 6:9-13  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.  (KJV)

A brief update from the Atlanta area.  So far we have just had quite a bit of rain and some wind.  We lost power only momentarily three times in quick succession and then the power came back on and stayed on.  Each of those three times I heard a loud banging sound but have no idea what caused it.  There is another band of rain and wind coming into the area from the West within the next hour.  I think we are benefiting from being 30 miles East of Atlanta.  We are under tornado warning until 9 pm tonight.  Atlanta has had a lot of downed trees and some flooding.

I was very happy to see my daughter get back from her college final test and my son on his way home from work to be sure we were all settled and safe.

Karma and Nards, it looks like the storm may settle over your area for quite awhile and that you will be getting a lot of rain.  Hope you all will be safe and without damage.

Welcome Primrose to CP.

It sounds like this was a good day for dentists.  :o

Yes, we are getting a good bit of rain tonight. I just got in from work - had to work lat4e because I didn't arrive until 11 am today after the dental appointment. Karma, Papa John and I are approximately where the 40 is in your map.

Well, must go - have to "sleep fast" tonight, 'cuz I must go in at the crack of dawn in order to meet deadlines before leaving for the next dental session at 10 am.

Ouch - first, I'm gonna take a pain pill.

Pat, when is it you're having the eyelid surgery?

Hi folks...

Been a day to be quiet for me today.  Sometimes we need those kinds of days.

I feel so sorry for Liz having those wasp stings.

I was cutting the lawn yesterday and this crazy wasp landed on the back of my right hand and preceeded to sting me.  I can't type very well.  It's very swollen and itchy.  Got some benedryl and some itch stuff but what a site it is!

Nice to read all your posts in here today.

Talk to you later.
