Morning Devotional...

America's Founding

Now, the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, he gives freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17, NLT).

Dear friends:

If the American people today knew the real history of this country, they would be humbled, shocked and inspired.

Some years ago I was astonished to learn of the overwhelming historical evidence that commitment to Christ and biblical Christianity were the driving forces behind the founding of America.

Did you know that in 1607, as the first permanent English-speaking settlers in America landed on the coast of Virginia, their first act was to plant a cross and dedicate this new continent to God Almighty?

A few years later in 1620, the settlers at Plymouth made a covenant with God called the "Mayflower Compact." It stated, "In the name of God... Having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith... in the presence of God and one another, covenant and combine ourselves into a civil body politic."

Eleven of the original 13 colonies wrote their constitutions before the Federal Constitution, and they contained requirements for elected officials. They were all similar, and as an example of the beliefs at the time, the Delaware Constitution declared that a candidate for office must say: "I do profess faith in God the Father, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, and in the Holy Ghost. In God who is blessed forevermore I do acknowledge the Holy Scriptures and the Old and New Testaments which are given by divine inspiration."

Most of the original signers of the Constitution were not deists as some claim. Research has proven that 52 of the 55 were avowed, Bible-believing Christians.

Founding Father and first President George Washington said, "To the distinguished Character of a Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the most distinguished Character of Christian."

Patrick Henry, American revolutionary leader said, "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Sixth President John Quincy Adams said: "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected, in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government and the principles of Christianity."

Our national biblical heritage was occasionally challenged by agnostics and atheists, but after careful study, the challenges were always dismissed. In a future message, I will share the results of some of these studies by the U.S. Congress and the Supreme Court.

Yours for helping to fulfill the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

Hi everyone from a very hot Georgia.  It is suppose to be another hot and steamy day today.

I don't have anything that will require me to be outside today other than walk to the mailbox at the end of the short drive.  So I will be able to stay in where it is cool.  Will work on some computer projects.  Pat has a medical appointment but unless she wants me to drive her I won't go with her.

Marilyn, you are right that it has been awhile since we have seen Ritz or Kevin post.  Perhaps they are on vacation.

Pat, are your nights cooling down up that way or does it just stay hot.  You certainly are attending a lot of meetings.  Pretty soon it will become work.  :)

Candice, it is important to be able to drive in this day and age.  Just be very careful.  We have had so many young people killed around here in car accidents when there are usually a car full of friends.  Sure you will be glad not to have to do the cleaning job.

Ruth, my son has one of those low trailers.  I don't think he uses it very often but maybe will as he moves to Augusta, SC this month and next.

Etta Sue, I am sure you are happy to not have to make the trip to Grand Rapids for a few days especially with these hot temperatures.  The play you are seeing is one of my wife's favorite movies. Hope you have a great evening.

Samantha, you certainly didn't provide too much information and that was most interesting.  I don't envy you having to work in a hot trailer on days like have been occurring around the coutnry.

Hope everyone has a nice day and can stay reasonable cool (I know you folks on the Oregon coast don't worry about the heat).

Last night I think was the hottest night for sleeping.  It was brutal.  So I finally got up and went to the basement and sat in my lounge chair.

So, that's the answer, Larry.  Some nights are just almost as hot as the day was.

Yes, Carl, it's August!  I can't believe it.

Hello to the rest of you as well.

Have a wonderful day whatever you are doing.

If the American people today knew the real history of this country, they would be humbled, shocked and inspired.

Peter Marshall Jr (Catherine Marshall's son) wrote a book on the christian heritage of this country.  "The Light and The Glory" traces this country's christian heritage.  Beginning with Christopher Columbus, who felt his was under the direction of the Holy Spirit in his adventure to discover the New World.

Of the 56 signers of the Constitution, if I remember correctly, 22 were ordained ministers.  This was from another sourch.

Did anyone notice that Janet opened the day with her devotional. I sure trust that she and Darrel are having a good time on their vacation.

It is another hot & steamy day. I went out earlier and watered my little garden and flowers, a little later I will be headed over to Bolton to a little grocery store to buy a few special items that are not available here in town and while there I will be stopping at Shoppers Drug Mart to purchase a card. Perhaps while there I will stop by and see how my Aunt is doing.

Ohenry, Larry,Pat,Ed & Marilyn and to the rest when you check in have a great day.

Ruth

Words and music by Thomas Dorsey

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:
I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee
with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:10

Precious Lord, take my hand,
Lead me on, let me stand,
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;
Through the storm, through the night,
Lead me on to the light:
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

When my way grows drear,
Precious Lord, linger near,
When my life is almost gone,
Hear my cry, hear my call,
Hold my hand lest I fall:
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

When the darkness appears
And the night draws near,
And the day is past and gone,
At the river I stand,
Guide my feet, hold my hand:
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

Good morning one and all.  Nothing new today, I am  going to take Ruth (my client) to the Senior Center for lunch and to the gym for the hot tub, this is what she does every tuesday.

When I get home I am going to sort through some fabric scraps  to see about making another quilt. I think it will be a baby quilt this time.

Okay, I know it is hot but A/C is suppose to cool.  I had the A/C man here last week and he said my A/C is fine.  So why is it 78 degrees in here when I have the A/C set on 70 degrees?  That makes it so hard to sleep for me.

But my thermometer outside says 95 degrees so maybe I shouldn't complain.  That sun sure is hot reflecting off my deck!

The talk from Kip May, a photographer in Bloomington, Indiana, was great.  He is a professional but his talk is all geared to how to take better pictures.  Nothing about f`stops, shutter speeds and all that technical stuff...just how to get a better shot.  One thing he mentioned was to get a family outside...have them hold hands and walk toward you while you walk backward and take a picture.  Neat idea.  AND he should examples of that and I saw a picture of the Speech and Hearing Professor at Indiana University where I take Walter for Speech Therapy!  I couldn't remember her name but I know it was her!

I just know that tonight will be a great play....Steel Magnolias.

105, that feels like 120. i've never experienced this type of heat. i went to texas 2 years ago, and it was 112. but no humidity, so i actually liked it, i mean it was nothing to this sick feeling that you get when you walk outside.  and pennsylvania, 105? that's almost unheard of. it's summer and i'm kind of stuck inside due to the insane heat, which stinks.

oh well, i have found ways to enjoy it anyways, and i hope everyone else has too.
with love.

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while for me.  Casey, our 20-year-old has been home from college in San Diego since early June.  We have been having so much fun.  He will leave this Saturday to go back to school.  Midori and I will miss him SOOOOOOO much.

There are so many new picts in the Christian Photographers Gallery.  Scroll up to the top of this page, click on Gallery, and you are there!

How about this idea?  Commit to view 2 to 3 picts each time you post here.  I know you have the time!  Use some of that time to encourage someone in the Gallery.

In His Grip,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin.

That sounds like such a good idea to encourage the others on this site.  Commenting is so important.  Fotobirder has put in so many lovely photos with a scriptural message to them as well.

I'm sure you're really going to miss Casey.
