Morning Devotional...

Who's the Greatest?
Matthew 17:24-18:6  NLT

24On their arrival in Capernaum, the tax collectors for the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, "Doesn't your teacher pay the Temple tax?"
25"Of course he does," Peter replied. Then he went into the house to talk to Jesus about it.
But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, "What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the foreigners they have conquered?"

26"They tax the foreigners," Peter replied.

"Well, then," Jesus said, "the citizens are free! 27However, we don't want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a coin. Take the coin and pay the tax for both of us."

Matthew 18
1About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Which of us is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?"
2Jesus called a small child over to him and put the child among them. 3Then he said, "I assure you, unless you turn from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4Therefore, anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. 5And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me. 6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who trusts in me to lose faith, it would be better for that person to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around the neck.

When do you worry about status?

The disciples had become so preoccupied with the organization of Jesus' earthly kingdom that they had lost sight of its divine purpose.  Instead of seeking a place of service, they sought positions of advantage.  Jesus used the child to help his self-centered disciples get the point.

We are not to be childish (like the disciples, arguing over petty issues) but rather childlike, with humble and sincere hearts.  Are you being childlike or childish?

Well ... I took so long composing that I lost my connection as well as the lengthy reply to everyone.   :-\  Just goes to show that my comments were not necessary after all.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional to start off the day.

I had some words of wisdom (yeah right!) for Janet but I think others have covered that pretty well already.  I just want to let you know that even when you feel your faith is weak -- or especially then -- God knows all about it and He understands.  We have to remember how Jesus taught us to pray ... Father, not my will but Thine be done ...  So often we think we know best how things should be handled.  As mothers we want the best for our children but do we really know what is best?  We have to come to the point where we release all our hopes and dreams and desires and let God do what HE knows is best.  Beth may be feeling frustrated and that you don't or haven't been fighting for her, but there will come a time when she will see more clearly that you have done and are doing all that you can do for her.  Mothers are like that, y'know.

Alma, I understand your heart and I am praying for your situation re: your daughter as well.

Liz I agree with every word you wrote ... and I most certainly do NOT think you are insensitive, but very sensitive to the leading of the Lord.  Too often we can't see anything but the muddle of being in the midst of a problem or trial.  It takes one who is more or less removed from the situation to see clearly and objectively.

I won't try to recapture everything I said previously. 'cause if I tried I'd just get cut off again.   :-\  Please know that I read here every day and often am so overwhelmed that there just aren't words.

I agree with Carol and JudyB about "reading between the lines" and listening closely from the heart ... There should never be the feeling that we can't express our concerns (and joys) here to be shared with one another.  We need to share and carry one another's burdens.

Gotta go .... don't want to be slapped on the wrist again.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Alma, don't ever be ashamed of the fact that you are afraid.  Indeed, God has not given us the spirit of fear, but Satan uses it in a tremendous way.  I've personally experienced some fear lately that was incredibly powerful, and I am amazed at the grip it had on me.  I once thought I was afraid of nothing, but that too is a lie.  Only God can give us victory over fear, and He does that by renewing our faith in HIMSELF.  No matter WHAT the situation is with your daughter, God will be with you through it and HE will be victorious, however He chooses to do that. It may or may not be exactly what WE want, but He will NEVER leave us alone or forsaken.

Hang in there, trust in God.  He cares.

Good Morning. Thank yo Etta Sue for the devotional today. I hope you are having a safe trip.

Alma I am praying for you and your daughter.

After reading all the posts that I missed last night and those of this morning, I feel that my financial problems are so small  in comparison, even tho' I may not be able to  meet my monthly obligations. My earnings have dropped way down and I really don't want to have to get another job or take on another client. I enjoy the  time that I have off to do other things, rest, and walk the dogs. Especially not being so stressed out all the time.

Bible Study last night was not what had been planned, but  was so good. We talked about doing acts of kindness for other and at one point the Pastor told a story on himself and the place  just roared with laughter, It was so hard to stop laughing and for him to get back on subject.

FARTHER ALONG
(Click to hear music)

W. B. Stevens

Tempted and tried we're oft made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long.
While there are others living about us,
Never molested though in the wrong.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

When death has come and taken our loved ones,
It leaves our home so lonely and drear;
Then do we wonder why others prosper,
Living so wicked year after year.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

Faithful till death said our loving Master.
A few more days to labor and wait;
Toils of the road will then seem as nothing
As we sweep through the beautiful gate.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

When we see Jesus coming in glory,
When He comes from His home in the sky;
Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion
We'll understand it all by and by.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

Hi everyone.

I see the morning is almost over and not too much accomplished.  I have to fix some games that I hadn't put on Pat's computer that she had purchased and wanted.  I was able to do that and saved the files on a disk in case I need them in the future.

Alma, I am also praying for your daughter and for you.  We have been under the same cloud since last week and our daughter should find out something tomorrow as to whether she probably has the same type problem as your daughter (if I read correctly between the lines).  I know these things can be a terrible burden on the parents as well as the person involved.  However, there is only so much we can do but it doesn't keep us from hurting so much such as Janet and others are experiencing.

Janet, you know that what Beth said was in frustration and pain.  What more could you possibly do to fight for her than you have been doing and will continue to do.  Glad to read that the doctor has intervened in a very strong fashion and hope the situation improves quickly.  I so well remember when my dad was in the hospital in so much pain.  My wife was sitting with him and he said to her "how can you sit there and let me suffer".  Anyone knowing my wife knows if there is anything that can be done she will have done it.  She had made a bit of a scene at the nurses station because they weren't willing to send someone to the pharmacy in the hospital to get the pain medication he needed and that the doctor had ordered.  It wasn't too long until it was there.  We will never forget the comment as I am sure you will never forget the comment that Beth made to you.  However, you know it wasn't deserved and therefore I hope you can let it not affect you anymore than it obviously has.

Kevin, I agree with you regarding the comments Liz has made.  I often wonder how people survive sometimes when they don't have Jesus to rely upon.

Jane, just a suggestion.  Often when I have written a longer message I will just hit the Ctrl key + A to select everything and then copy it to the clipboard.  That way if something happens to my message all I have to do is access the site again and paste into the message box.

Time for lunch so I will signoff for today.

Marilyn

Alma thank you for your prayers I do so appreciate them.

Thanks, Larry, for the suggestion.  I am still trying to get used to this new isp.  It cuts me off after a certain length of time being "idle."  They don't know I'm NOT idle ... just thinking and trying to type a message (or work a crossword puzzle or jigsaw puzzle)  :-\

Alma I know, probably better than you might think, what you are dealing with.  The same sort of distress and feeling of total helplessness visited me a few years ago when my very wonderful daughter received such a diagnosis.  As has been said "hang in there" and know that there are many here who are praying for you and care.   <3

Marilyn I know, all too well, what you are going through.  That is the key word, though "through" ... you will get through this time of uncertainty and God will be the victor!

I wrote a welcome back to Anthony in the post that got dumped last night so I will repeat it here, although a bit belated.  I'm glad to see you back home, Anthony.

Also happy to see Ruth Ann popping in again.

There is so much sadness here.  It is almost overwhelming.  We need to realize that our Lord has control and trust Him to do what is best for us, even though we may not see it at the time.  Then even though we don't understand, let's respond with Joy.  Sometimes we need to smile and step over things we don't understand and start looking for the "Good" in our mornings again.

Hold on my child,
Joy comes in the morning,
Weeping only lasts for the night.
Hold on my child,
Joy comes in the morning,
The darkest hour means
Dawn is just in sight.

If you've knelt beside the rubble
Of an aching broken heart.
When the things you gave
Your life to fell apart,
You're not the first to be acquainted
With sorrow grief or pain,
But the Master promised sunshine after rain.

To invest your seed of trust in God,
In mountains you can't move.
You have risked your life
On things you cannot prove.
But to give the things you cannot keep,
For what you can not lose,
Is the way to find
The joy God has for you.

I have John home again.  It is so good to have him home.  Our friend Rick's heart is softening.  Almost imperceptible to the "human" eye.  I am continuing to do my best at walking the talk.  Melaura is rejoicing.  A friend went to "Pitch and Praise"  with her, and came home rejoicing.  She is a brand new baby Christian!!!  Woohoo.  We are going to try to be instrumental in getting her to Youth and Sunday services.  Boy is God ever working in the lives of children here in the north!

Melaura is resisting going to a different church on Sunday.  It is one we need to go to to help a missionary.  She loves her time at church.  I cannot brag about anything of my doing, it is all and only God.

Well I must go I have read all the posts Janet and Alma Prayer is ongoing.

It is a curious thing, As I was typing this post I song kept going through my mind.
"Hold on, A little while longer,  That is what we have to do is hold on and know He is at the other end.  If you feel like letting go just hold on and remember He is holding you.

Love you all

Jane Walker

That's a good song, JudyB ... I used to sing that a lot -- as a part of a trio and, more recently, with friends.

Good news about Melaura and the young people in your area.

He Lifted Me
(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by Charles H. Gabriel

"For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Titus 3:3-5

In loving kindness Jesus came,
My soul in mercy to reclaim,
And from the depths of sin and shame
Thro' grace He lifted me.

Refrain
From sinking sand, He lifted me,
With tender hand, He lifted me,
From shades of night to planes of light,
O praise His name, He lifted me!

He called me long before I heard,
Before my sinful heart was stirred,
But when I took Him at His Word,
Forgiv'n He lifted me.

Refrain
From sinking sand, He lifted me,
With tender hand, He lifted me,
From shades of night to planes of light,
O praise His name, He lifted me!

His brow was pierced with many a thorn,
His hands by cruel nails were torn,
When from my guilt and grief forlorn,
In love He lifted me.

Refrain
From sinking sand, He lifted me,
With tender hand, He lifted me,
From shades of night to planes of light,
O praise His name, He lifted me!

It's time for bed here in the U.K.  Thank you all for the fellowship.  Thank you Bernard for your post to Alma.  That was 2 Corinthians 3 - 4 in action:

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted

That's what Christian fellowship is all about, the same goes to Larry for those words to Janet.

God bless you Jane for the welcome - it is nice to be back again.

God bless everyone, particularly those with those special problems.

See you in the morning.

Anthony. (Those hymns were lovely today Pat - better than any medicine. )

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

For those of you bearing heavy burdens, I'd like to tell you a story. The day my husband was diagnosed with his cancer, I had a 3-day old baby plus 3 other middle school aged sons. I fell on my knees at home beside the bed sobbing and said, "God, my shoulders just aren't big enough to handle this."

In my ear I "heard" a deep soothing voice (like that of a radio announcer" that said, "Who are you to doubt MY strength?"

At that, I sobbed some more and the following verse popped into my head, "I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me." That's been my philosophy since that day - HIS STRENGTH is so much better and stronger than ours ever could be. So, as much as within me lies, I strive to lay all my cares upon the One who cares for me.

God bless you all.

Ruth Ann

Tunning:  A combination of running and tunneling. (Janet's abridged dictionary.)  ::) ;)

Alma, my mother heart is joined with yours in prayer.  Several of us on CP have daughters with great needs.  Keep looking to Jesus! (((hugs)))

Marilyn, glad you took another client, much better than worring all the time about $$$ and if it will stretch far enough.

Ruth Ann, thanks for that reminder.  I know you have been through more than one person should ever have to bear, and still have hard times.  I apologize for having "tunnel vision" these past days.  I do know that I'm not the only one who is hurting, really I do.  The way you have borne your troubles through all these years is truly an inspiration to me.

I had a call about 5 o'clock that my eldest daughter and her husband had been in a terrible car accident and were being air lifted to Wichita.  I thought............well, you can imagine! :o  But I called our local hospital emergency room, told them I am her Mom and asked if they could give me any information.  They said NO, but they would find Denise (my daughter).......she came on, I asked how she was, she said okay.  And she said Ken had hurt his back, but the airlift call was not for him, but for another patient.  She said he had had Xrays of his back but hadn't seen a doctor yet, and she thought he would be okay, too.  THANK YOU, LORD!!!  Now I am counting my blessings and beginning to see the dawn after the dark night with Beth, too.

Today, I was able to leave Beth (three times!) without any tears, either from her or me.  So I believe the adjustment is beginning.  I know there will still be tough days, but we are making progress.  The therapist told her he thinks she can regain enough strength to transfer and pivot, which would be a giant step in the right direction.  That seems to have really buoyed her hope again, so I'm very thankful for that as well.

Etta Sue, hope you made it safely home again!

Anthony, glad your Mom is hanging in there---bless her heart.  So good to see you posting again.  Your disappearance had me worried for a while! :-\

I know I need to address others, but I'm really tired again.  Now that things seem to be settling down a little, maybe I can get rested a bit.

See you neat folk tomorrow!
