Some News We Should Know About...

From our forums...

Something to talk about...

In Hebrews 10:25, it says, ...not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another...

Why go to church?

"In a letter to the editor of a British newspaper, a man complained that he saw no sense in going to church every Sunday.  "I have been attending services quite regularly for the past 30 years," he wrote, "and during that time ... I have listened to no less than 3,000 sermons.   But to my consternation, I discover I cannot remember a single one of them.  I wonder if a minister's time might be more profitably spent on something else."

Morning Devotional...

Kiss the Son.
Psalm 2:12

One day I stood in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and watched some worshipping women.

They knelt to kiss the stone on which Christ's dead body supposedly was placed for washing.

Trembling with excitement, they kissed the stone repeatedly, crossed themselves and rubbing some of the holy oil on their faces.

I was deeply troubled. Kissing a dead stone will never give spiritual life.

"Kiss the Son."

Receive Him; worship Him; and He alone will give you life eternal.
--Donald L. Norbie

O worship the King, all glorious above,
And gratefully sing His power and His love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

Good Morning Everyone.

Thankyou Pat for that.

I must admit that were I in the church of the Holy Sepulchure I would reach down and at least touch the stone. The actions of those women were part of their faith and I have learned that it is so wrong to judge others in their walk with Jesus. Very often it is all a question of semantics.

I wish I could visit Jerusalem and the Church of the Holy Sepulchure.  I have a beautiful card and photograph of there from a friend who visited.,  However, I do have the risen Jesus in my heart and He is with me always.

The Lord Bless you all,
Jenny.

GOOD MORNING ALL 11.36 AM in Holland

PAT thank you for the very good devotional this morning. The poem is lovely.
Thank you also for the nice hyms yesterday but yesterday
evening we have been away and in the car there was one song in my head. and that was ABBA FAHTER and what have you put on CP when we have night ABBA FAHTER you and i
we are thinking on the same song. How is it possible.

SONJA i hope that you today are a little bit better.

CHRIS thank you very much for your writing
yesterday it was great.

RUTHIE my prayers are for the parents from Cecilia Zhang

RUTH also a goodmorning you are so kindly
for me thank you.

NARDS it is true this world is sick for years we always are
reading that there someone was shooting on schools in America.
But also in Holland now there is a teacher in danger shoot down by a schoolboy  and this week one schoolboy has an
other boy put a long knife in his back
And we are going on thursday evening to the centre of Veendam  a lot police  the Dutch boys they call them by them
self neo nazi's they have black shoes with white lace and they are fighting with the boys from Turkey.

I have talk with my pastor about the time that Jesus is coming back. I ask here we are saying when someone is gone. He or she is gone to Jesus. They are in Heaven. But when Jesus is coming back then also the graves
are going open and the death people are standing up.
I say i understand that not good because the same human is
in Heaven. But what did she say to me the graves are not
going open that is symbolical. And when i say that it not what i believe then she was angry on me. She say then it is not needfull that we longer are talk about this.
But i go the coming weeks in the morning on Sunday to the nursing home that is very good every sunday a choir and that is so nice.
But we have young pastors we also say that to them but they are all M.Sc.

Isaiah 41:10
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

   GOD  HOLDS  ON
When i step on unknows paths,
           it helps me to recall
that i may slip, but God holds on -
He will not let me fall.

Love and prayerfully for you all

Hi everyone.  I usually don't get here this early or at least before several others have posted.  I see that only Jenny and Ria, along with Pat, have already been here.

Rachael, I posted the words from Oswald Chambers and no I haven't read his biography.  I will have to get it and read it.  Always good to have a recommendation for a book from a friend.  Oswald Chambers was certainly a prolific writer.  I have the book that has his complete works and it must weigh 10 pounds with small print on the pages and it is even oversized.

I also want to welcome Alice Wyatt and join in with the others in saying I am certainly glad to read that your grandson is recovering.

Pat, the verse for today is one of my favorites and the devotional message is also good.

Ria, it sounds like your country is also experiencing many people problems.

Pat, having had the opportunity to meet you in person a couple of times as well as our various communications over the years I just know that anyone visiting you is going to feel perfectly at home even if the floor is covered with Avon as it is you they are coming to see and not your house.  Hope you had a good visit.

Sonja, glad you are feeling better and hope today is better than yesterday.

Time to head out to coffee.  Sure don't want to be late!   :o ;D

QuoteBy Pat~Do we need help to keep our faith and hope from wavering?

I believe we do need help from other Christians to stay on track.  I know when I skip church or that time to fellowship with other Christians I feel lost all week.

QuoteBy Pat~
Is church an important part of your life--or only an obligation?  Why?

Church is important in my family life.  I love church.  I love my toes being stepped on.  I love hanging with the children, singing praises, Sunday school, and going to choir.

Going to church for me is like a relaxing break from the hectic week.  I just wish we had church every day.

I go home feeling a little bit closer to God each time and knowing Him a bit more.

Jenny it is good to see you today.  I have been to Jerusalem and visited the site where Jesus was supposedly buried.  In my mind it was hard to take it all in because we do not know that this is really the right place.  Even so I knew that somewhere near there Jesus WAS buried and he rose from the dead.  There is another place known as the Garden Tomb which many believe is really the place where Jesus was buried.  It really looks more like the place I imagine as his burial place.  Of course the important thing is for us to have a place in our heart's and lives for Jesus.

Rev 3:19-22
19   As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20   Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21   To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22   He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.  (KJV)

It is good to see each one today.  It is beautiful here in Florida.  We still have two more weeks in our home away from home.

Thanks for the devotional Pat.  Just a point of that fellow who went to Church for 30 years.  I am 45 years old; I will assume that I have had at least one meal a day so I guess I have had at least over 16000 meals.  My mind boggles to think I cannot remember the majority of these meals, so I guess I better stop eating  ???  I am sure that most people eat to stay healthy andas such are fit to live each day to its fullest potential.  With this in mind, we are spiritually fed when we hear a sermon and the outcome should be spiritual health.

One of the reasons I am leaving the ministry is that our congregations do not want to be challenged, will not accept that sin is a rejection of God and His Lordship, refuse to accept that there is a hell and Satan is its lord.  many of those who do go to Church are not willing to support the ministry if their lifestyle is challenged.

Happy birthday Jane and welcome to CP Alice.

Ahhhh, Young Papa John, it is great to see you swimming by today!  God bless and keep you.

Ria, I am hearing that so many preachers now say that most of the Bible is not to be taken literally, but rather is only symbolic.  I do NOT believe this!  I believe it means the graves will literally be opened and the bodies of those who died will be resurrected, made new (be glorified) and then will be rejoined with their spirits which have been dwelling in heaven since their death.  Does that help you?

It is so sad the things that are happening in the world.  But it will continue to get worse until Jesus comes.  But we should be encouraged, and look up, for our redemption draws near!!

Soni, hope you and Chandraya do well this weekend, and have a safe and fun trip. ((hugs))

Pat, the little story about going to church that you put in today, I read before, but with the following addition, which I thought good.  The person being questioned replied:  I have been married to my wife for 30 years.  In those 30 years, she has prepared me three meals a day, which I have eaten.  That would make a total of 32,850 meals, and except for maybe the last two or three, I cannot recall the menu of one of them!  But they nourished and strengthened my body, and without eating, I would have long since died.  It is the same with spiritual nourishment:  whether we remember any sermon verbatim or not, they nourished and strengthened my soul, and without them, I would waste away spiritually.  (Janet's paraphrase.)

Abby is here, and I am still working on framing.  I have had a little flurry of business lately, a real blessing from God.  There is a tea this afternoon I want to attend, and Beth wants me to bake some cookies for her, as her oven burns them.  So I better go get busy!

Hope you all have a great day!

Gareth, I see you were posting very similar thoughts at the same time! ;D  Hang in there, brother, people DO need to be reminded and corrected!!

Hi Everyone...

Exactly Gareth and Janet!
That person did say that he had been married for 30 years and during that time had eaten 32,850 meals and couldn't remember the menu of a single meal!  But he was nourished from every one of them!  So are we by what we hear Sunday after Sunday in church.

Drive safely, Soni.   Hurry back.  We'll miss you!

Papa John, how I love to read your messages!

Has anyone heard from Fraser or Boots?  Or Rachelle?  Or some of our others who are missing?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

JANEY

It is also my grandson Forest's birthday he is 4 today. We are having a party for him at Redwood Park in Arcata. I will be taking a few photos to share.

All this week I have been trying to work with my website and all the images are RED X's  I have written to tech support so hopefull the problem will get solved.

I love church and look forward to every Service. I have rarely missed church. I am hungry for  whatever the message is that God has for me each week. I love being a prayer warrior and being there for the prayer meetings. Church is the highlight of my week, when I can go and assemble with like-minded people and fellowship with my friends and church family.

Good Morning!  Thank you, so much, PAT, RIA, GARETH, and JANET for the birthday wishes!   ;D

It is a beautiful sunshiney day here on the Oregon Coast ... I am going to rejoice and be glad in it!

Already, this morning, I have received a phone call from a very dear friend who lives in northeastern Oregon.  This lady and her husband were my pastors in California when I was only 12 years old.  She has been like a mother to me and always encouraging and loving me   (even when I don't think I deserve it).  Her husband is 90 years old and has never missed one of his daily radio broadcasts since 1946!  I am amazed!

I have the bulletins ready to take over to the church. I am also taking some potted Easter lilies to add to the arrangements for tomorrow and next Sunday.

I will be back later ... Again, thank you for your wishes for my birthday.

Jane, happy birthday.  I didn't see the birthday wishes until after I posted this morning.

Gareth, I believe we need to be challenged from the pulpit whether we like what we hear or not as long as it is God's truth.  It seems I seldom hear the word "sin" used from the pulpit.  I don't believe we need fire and brimstone every Sunday but we don't need social commentary every Sunday either.

Janet, I agree with you and believe that the graves will be opened.

Pat, Rachel posted yesterday evening, post #40.  You two were probably posting about the same time.

I spent the morning cleaning out the closet in my office and straightening things up a bit and doing some of those little projects you put off for another time like going through the bills for the last year and discarding what is not needed.  I am looking forward to the college basketball final 4 games that start tonight.  Georgia Tech, which is located in Atlanta, is one of the final 4 teams.  Then next week the Braves baseball season begins and I am looking forward to seeing some baseball games as it says spring is here.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE!!!

I think of church as God's nursery for His children.  He grows us there.  He blesses us there.  He even chastises us there.  We need all of these things and more, and the Biblically organized church is His chosen instrument for supplying our needs.  We may or may not remember sermons, but each one has a little effect, a little impact, and, together, they result in our faith and produce our works.

As far as kissing the stone goes, the Lord spoke to my heart a long time ago on the subject or at least the gist of it.

I was telling a fellow christian that what he was doing was wrong.  He replied that God had not spoken to him about his bad habit.

God then spoke to me and said to my heart, "Do not impose on others what I have imposed upon you."

While it may be something you can do or cannot do, whatever you are doing or not doing, God will speak to you about it...and then it will be imposed upon you....if you are listening.

I can "eat meat offered up to idols," but others may not be able to do it.  That is why we are told not to be "a stumbling block" to others, especially young christians.

This is the full depth of GRACE.  It is learned (at least by me) as I "work out my salvation."  Many things that I used to do, I no longer do.  Things that I never did before I now do.....like forgiveness of others who have wronged me.

Thanks for the devotional Pat.  I am finally finished reading all the posts.  Did not get on the computer yesterday.  Was thinking about 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and had paid a visit to a 1872 sermon by C.H. Spurgeon.   Have always prayed when walking, sitting on a bus, sitting at my desk, etc.  "Pray without ceasing"  is a wonderful gift that God has given to Christians.  The line is always open.    Spurgeon said:  "He prayeth best that
               loveth best
           Both man, and bird, and
                beast."
I can't help but wonder if some of the terrible things happening to the beef and chicken industry, is a result of the cruelty inflicted on the animals.  God has always told us to care for them....

Speaking of animals, Amanda found a cat on the internet at Victoria S.P.C.A. that has stirred interest in my daughter.  It is de-clawed, hates to be picked up, loves to play, smacks people with it's paw when wants to be left alone, and is loving, but moody.  Sounds like a personality twin to Mr. P.  So they are going to view it today.  The house is so empty without a pet.  Without a pet, a house is just a house!!

Must get to work now.  Wendy brought me down some fresh baked muffins a few minutes ago.  So lunch will be great!  A bright sunny day here on the island.

Jenny, what has happened with your little cat?

Marilyn, I keep thinking about what is happening to your job and the lady you care for.  Will keep this in my prayers.

God Bless,
Liz

Liz I do appreciate your prayers in regards to my job and the ladies that I care for. Our Governor is cutting funding to a lot of impotant programs here, another cut is coming to the health care programs, (medicaid to those in other states). So many of our elders are on this program along with their medicare because they cannot afford the high cost of insurance or medications. It is my only source of medical care until I can get medicare too, I don't know what I would do without it, I certainly could not afford any medications. I do worry so about my ladies.

Ursula, you are doing good with the movement across the page

(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fjohnmurphreenashville.homestead.com%2Fswimmer.gif&hash=1766fecf7d292d45ac07342ba059b8e4e4a1a6af)

Well, I did have a good swim this morning and did my usual 20 laps, 40 lengths of the pool.  Swimimng backward is very hard to do.   The water was very comfortable.  It is good exercise for my heart.  But there is some exercise which is even more important.

1 Tim 4:8  For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.  (NKJ)

Happy birthday Jane.

Hey, Ursula!

You're getting the hang of all the little features in these forums!  Congrats!

Everyone, ready for another one to sing?

I can hear my Savior calling,
I can hear my Savior calling,
I can hear my Savior calling,
"Take thy cross and follow, follow Me."

Refrain

Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow;
I'll go with Him, all the way.

I'll go with Him through the garden,
I'll go with Him through the garden,
I'll go with Him through the garden,
I'll go with Him, with Him all the way

Refrain

I'll go with Him through the judgment,
I'll go with Him through the judgment,
I'll go with Him through the judgment,
I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

He will give me grace and glory,
He will give me grace and glory,

I am home now from  the birthday party. Had a great time with the g-kids and Gilbert and Sarah and the family and friends.

I did find out that when Sarah's identity was stolen awhile back the culprits ran up $30,000., in credit charges and not only cleaned out the bank account but put it $3,000. in the red. Today was the first I heard on just how bad it really was.

No cat.  It seems that he was quite wild and bites people.  Not like Mr. P after all.  Think it is still a little early to replace a much loved pet.  So is probably for the best!

I was reading the Toronto Star on internet and disgusted by an article that claims Jesus is now the Ultimate Pop Celebrity!  What is happening to our Christian Faith?  Guess Janet is right in saying things will only get worse until Jesus returns.

God Bless,
Liz

Marilyn, about two years ago when we were in down here in Florida Cornelia said one night, "I can't find my credit card."  We looked and looked.  So I called the Credit Card company that night and told them the card was stolen.  The next day I checked our account and sure enough $3000.00 had been charged to the card.  Since I had called them immediately they took the $3,000.00 off of my bill.  I did have to send an notarized to the effect that it had been stolen.  The company canceled our card and sent us another one immediately.  So we had a good outcome.

Good to see everyone today.  Pat, you do a good job running this site.  I hope you all have a good rest tonight.  Run your clocks up an hour.  (At least for those in the States.)  Have a good Lord's day tomorrow.

Make sure you all put your birthday date in your Profile and you'll get a little surprise on your special day.  Click on Jane's name and see her little cake!

Also, if you have your birthday noted, we then have a great excuse to have a party!

When You Pray (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/whenyoupray.mid)
(Click for music)

At the close of the day, when you kneel to pray
Will you remember me?
I need help every day, this is why I pray
Will you remember me?

Chorus:
When you pray, will you pray for me
For I need His love and His care
When you pray, will you pray for me
Will you whisper my name in your prayer

At the close of the day, when I kneel to pray
I will remember you
You need help every day, this is why I pray
And I will remember you

When I pray, I will pray for you
For you need His love and His care
When I pray, I will pray for you
I will whisper your name in my prayer

At least if I were to change the clocks right now it would be but we change them at 2 am.

So, I'm locking the door now and going to bed!
