Morning Devotional...

Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done.
Luke 22:42

We stand back in silent wonder at the anguish of Gethsemane that drew blood-like sweat from the Man of Sorrows as He contemplated "this cup."

Peering into its sable depths, He knew its loathsome consequence, to be "made sin." In that cup He "saw the place afar off," the "land not inhabited" where He must go to bear away the sin of the world.

This was not a battle of two disparate wills, "My will" and "Thine," but the blending of two individual wills, eternally in perfect and holy harmony to fulfill the divine purpose, "I come to do Thy will, O God."
                                                                        --J. Boyd Nicholson

Tears drawn from a depth unsounded;
coursing toward the sod,
Telling of love unbounded, s
ourced in the heart of God.

Hi everyone.  I was a little late getting today's devotional posted and closing the thread for yesterday.  There is a message from Jenny and from Ria that were added to yesterday's thread today so if you haven't read them please click back on NEM for August 9th to see them.

It is a sunny Lord's day here in Georgia.  I do hope our traveler's have had a good nights sleep and are experiencing good driving weather.

Jenny, so sorry to hear that your son is in the hospital and do hope that will be a short visit for him.  Ria, good to see your posting this morning in the other thread as well.

Kathy

Many thank to you, Larry, for the devotional this morning.  As I am reading all of yesterday's and then on to today's  NEM I am listening to the Christian radio station and they are singing "Praise Him, Praise Him!"  What a wonderful thing it is to praise Him ever in joyful song :) :)
I was unable to come onling yesterday..but read the devotional by Iain, who is being used mightily by God for us at CP.

Now on to the prayers before I go to church.

I wish I could send some of this rain to Europe..I can really sympathize with them.  We, here in South,Carolina,  got very little rain for the last 2 or 3 years and last year was the worst!  This year we have finally caught up..the rivers and streams are full again..(some are even at the flood stage). The farmers can possibly see come good crops this year.

Thought for the day:  When we are 'down' in our lives our God is 'up' to something in our lives.

God Bless all.......kathy

Ria Hello You are doing very well in you posts.

Nowe to the prayer forum before Iget ready for church.

God Bless everyone who comes in to join us today.

Happy Lords' Day to you all! That is a very nice devotional, Larry, thank you.I tend to forget that Jesus could see what was coming; I'm really glad that I cannot! We have been singing a new song in church called "Above All". There's beautiful pictures on screen, with the words at the bottom. It is so inspiring that I usually can't get thru it without tears! To all you other "newbies", I am one, too, and I hope to get to know you all better in days to come. Love in Him, Cami

Chris & Margit Saunders

Hi folks, Margit and I went to our caravan at Fleetwood this weekend, great weather- Saturday, picnic near a little stream under the pine trees, had a great time, then this morning 8am, torrential rain, thunder the lot!
so we stayed in, and that was good too, lol.

But it cleared up for the drive home, I was hoping for a field of straw bales up there as all the farmland is golden but no,
then driving home 5 mins from my front door.... a field of straw bales! What a loving God!
Margit said " well there you go, He surprised you with His sense of humour again"! lol,
regards to all Chris. ;D

Janet

Hello Larry, Kathy, Marilyn, Cami, and Chris!  God is so good, all the time!  All the time, God is so good!  We got an inch of rain last night and today!!  Praise God!  We needed it so much, and it is nice and cool here after weeks of terribly hot temperatures.  I am praising Him and rejoicing in His goodness.

At our church in Hugoton, we have a Hispanic ministry which meets in the church library.  The pastor of that group spoke today, as the sr. pastor and family are on vacation.  He did a great job!  He talked about "wrestling with God, and finding peace, after the fight."  He read the portions of Scripture about Jacob, Habbakuk, Job, and Saul, and how they wrestled with God, then submitted to His will and found peace.  He brought out some points I'd never thought about before.  He preached in English, so we had to listen carefully and follow in the Bible, as some of his pronounciation is a little different.  That was good----making us pay close attention!

I have had to stay on the ball, so to speak, this week!  I'm no longer used to getting four kids' clothes ready for church, making their meals, etc.  But we are having a blast!  Yesterday, Tim started a painting.  He is very artistic, draws extremely well, so he is enjoying that.  Addison is making a water globe (with a hog on a Harley!) and Justin is sculpting with Sculpey clay.  Keeps Grams on her toes trying to teach three things at the same time! ;D

This morning for breakfast, I made pancakes---in the shapes of Mickey Mouse, a dog, a cat, and a kangaroo!!  Plus a smiley face---never a dull moment!

These kids are wanting to get back to work on their projects, so I'd better get in there and supervise!

I pray all our travelers are having a great time, and that all CP members are having a blessed day!

Papa John

Larry, thank you for providing the good thoughts for today.  Yes, Jesus knew what was coming.  His example is the perfect submission to the will of the Father.  When we understand this it helps us so much to yield to the will of God.

Heb 5:8-9  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (KJV)

When we study God's word we should do so without our own agenda.  Our goal should be to search for God's will and do it whatever it is.  This is one reason it is so important for us to have an open mind.  If we search the scriptures simply to confirm what we want to believe or to justify ourselves as we are we miss the point.

I know we are saved by grace.  I know we are not saved by our works or deeds.  Yet that doesn't mean that I should therefore not care whether I do God's will.

Rom 6:1-4  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  KJV)

So we learn that God's will for us is that we be saved, that we walk in that newness of life.

2 Pet 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  (KJV)

It is good to see each one today.  I hope you all have a good Lords Day.

--- Papa John    ;D          <:))))><<

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

The Living Sermon
--Author Unknown

His name is Bill. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with
holes in it, jeans, and no shoes. This literally was his
wardrobe for his entire four years of college.

He is brilliant, with a potential to go far. He also
became a Christian while attending college. Across the
street from the campus is a well-dressed, very conservative
church. They want to develop a ministry to the students but
are not sure how to go about it.

One Sunday Bill decided to go across the street to attend
church. He walked in with wild hair, no shoes, jeans and one
of his T-shirts on.

The service had already started, so Bill quietly started
down the aisle looking for a seat. The church was completely
packed and he couldn't find a seat. By now, people were really
getting a bit uncomfortable, but no one said anything. Bill
got closer and closer to the pulpit. When he realized there
were no seats, he just squatted down right on the carpet next
to a row. By now, people were really uptight, and the tension
in the air was thick.

Trying hard to concentrate on his sermon, the minister realized
that, from way at the back of the church, a deacon was slowly
making his way toward Bill. Now, the deacon was in his eighties,
had silver-gray hair and a three-piece suit. A well-dressed man,
very elegant, very dignified, and he walked with a cane. As he
started walking toward Bill, everyone was saying to themselves
that you can't blame him for what he's going to do. How can you
expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some
college kid on the floor?

It took a long time for the man to reach the boy. The church
was utterly silent except for the clicking of the man's cane.
All eyes were focused on him. You couldn't even hear anyone
breathing. The minister hadn't been able continue with his
sermon until the deacon did what he had to do.

As all eyes watched, they saw this elderly man drop his cane
on the floor and, with great difficulty, lower himself down
to sit next to Bill.

Everyone was struck with emotion. As the minister regained
control, he started by saying, "What I'm about to preach, you
will never remember. What you have just seen, you will never
forget. Reach out a welcoming hand. Be careful how you live.
You may be the only Bible, some people will ever read."

Thanks for the good words this morning!  I have been "well fed" on God's Word today.

We had a good service at church, with many people attending for the first time, or for the first time in a long time.  The church was nearly full again.  Bev was unable to be in the service today, as this is again day #4 of her chemo and she is just not feeling well.  This evening we will all be joining another church for their sevice.  They have some special speakers/musicians there.  Next Sunday these same people will be ministering at our church.   :D

After church my friend and neighbor took me to minister to another lady who is seriously ill in the care facility nearby.  According to all "natural" reasoning, Judy is not expected to live much longer, but we annointed her with oil and prayed with her and trust God to work all things together for good...  He is in control!  Thank God for that!!

The congregation of the church that joined with ours a couple weeks ago has decided they really enjoyed the combining of the churches and want to do this every Sunday evening.  We won't tonight because we are all going over to another church.  This unity is really catching, y'know?  It is the beginning of a long-standing prayer for unity among the believers of this area.  I am excited about what God is doing in this little corner of the world!   :D

Gotta run ... or walk ... or go, so I'll be talking at you later.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

As Pat left me the key to the treasure chest where she stored the hymns, I thought we should enjoy one today and this is one of my favorites.  It was one we sang often in the church where I grew up in Northwest Missouri.

In the Garden[/size]
(Click for Music)

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

Refrain

I'd stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.

Refrain

Thanks, Larry ... I sure love that song, too!  :D

Well I went to visit at Al's church this morning. What a wonderful group of young people there who led the worship. It was different than what I expected. They are NOT the traditional Baptists  that I was familiar with.  :P The music is contemporary, very tasteful  and just wonderful.

Al's sermon was out of Mark 8:. Saying that Jesus doesn't do what we want or expect HIm to do, but does things His way in His time. Then I went to lunch at Al's house, we had Turkey burgers.  I had a very nice time.

Soon I will be going to intercessory prayer meeting at my own church then Sunday night Bible study.

Ok everybody you don't have to stay away just because Pat is on vacation. Get in here and keep on posting.  ;D

Larry that you for the devotional and now that great hymn.

Thank you, Janet, for posting the story of the wild-looking young man and the old deacon.  I've seen it before, but it's just as good this time!  What a great lesson for us all!

Janice

Larry, thank you for that song.  It is one of my favorites too.  We sang it in the little church in southwest Arkansas where I grew up!
And thanks for doing the devotional today.  WE have so many talented and helpful people here in CP.
If any of the travelers on the road to Calgary happen to look in,  a great big HI to all of you.  Have fun and know you are missed here.

Love to all of you,  Janice
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Janet, that IS a great story.  The old gentleman with the cane was practicing exactly what the Bible teaches:

James 2:2-4  Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.  If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet,"  have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?  (NIV)

Jane W., I'm glad you had a good day today in worship.  We had a wonderful service this morning.  We gave Bibles to fifty some odd young people who have recently accepted Christ and were baptized.  Also we honored a couple who were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.  Our preacher, Chris, presented an excellent lesson about Stephen and how he preached with such courage and ended up being stoned to death and how, like Jesus, he prayed for those who were killing him.

Larry, thanks for the song, one of the old song we have sung for so many years.

Marilyn, I'm glad you were able to get out and hear Al preach today.  We sing many of the contemporary songs too.  For an old guy I really like them.

Al, good to see you today.  I know it was nice for you to see Marilyn in your service today.

Well, tomorrow is another day.  I hope you all have a good week.  I have had another good day in that my back seems to be much improved.

Must be something wrong with my computer - everybody else can hear the music, but I can't get it to work!  Don't feel bad, Larry - I never could get any of Pat's to work either!  Must be an idosyncrasy of this computer!

Anyway, hello to everybody.  I've had a very full day in the Lord today.  Sundays are totally given over to the Lord, and it is a blessing.

Tomorrow will be another busy day.  God bless you all!

Thanks for the devotional.

We went to Tim Hortons to meet our daughter Sue as she and Bruce were on their way for a few days of needed vacation. It was getting cloudy so we hurried them on their way just before it started to rain a little, then around three thirty the clouds opened and down it came.   At approx. 4 the hydro went out. a hydro pole at the corner of Hwy 27 and the King Rd was on fire. Two hours later just as the basement was close to being flooded the hydro came back on allowing our sump pump to do its job.   Praise the Lord for that.

Now it is off to bed as I have a wonderful headache.

Hi All.

I have a big week ahead of me this coming week. I will likely not be here as often as I have been.  WE have DVBS starting tomorrow.  I am a group leader for the grades 5 and 6.  We have made a corporate decision that we would make DVBS an outreach for the community and have not invited other area churches.  Pray for these Kids that The Spirit of God is able to reach them.

OH there will be new pictures of our Puppies this week.  Our Cocker Spaniel had 6! ! !

Ruth the weaher could be the cause of the headache, I will be praying for you too that is goes while you sleep.

Well I am off to bed, Night all and God Bless.

Love JudyB
