Morning Devotional...

He sought God...and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.
2 Chronicles 26:5

At the age of sixteen, Uzziah came to the throne following the death of his father Amaziah. His 52-year reign started well, but in pride he went into the temple to burn incense, a task to which he was forbidden, and he was smitten with leprosy and died far from God.

May the sad end to his life remind us that when we seek the Lord we prosper and when we are in disobedience we suffer under the disciplining hand of God.

Remember, when Uzziah sought the Lord, he prospered.

It was as simple as that.

O Thou who died on Calvary,
to save my soul and make me free,
I'll consecrate my life to Thee,
my Saviour and my God. [/color]

Morning folks. Well I went to my bed last night with a sore backside. the second time in a week! Thanks Chris!! LOL

It is amazing how things can change with a full nights sleep. I have the same pain this morning yet I am able to cope with it better because I have had a good rest.

Pain is not only stressful it is energy sapping. When my energy is low then I am weak and open to all sorts of attacks from the evil one. There is now much that can be done apart from rest, but what happens when rest does not come?

Pain is one thing, but sleepless nights is another. Seeing every hour on the clock, praying for relief, praying for an escape route, praying for my mind to stop spinning out of control.

Thankfully the Lord knows just how much we can take and He gives His beloved sleep. Often I have though that He has gone too far, but always I am wrong. He knows best.

I have decided now to write when I can and not to 'force' a devotion simply for the sake of doing so.
I found myself recently under pressure as I tried to think of things to write about.

I was beginning to lose my apetite for it and was no longer enjoying it. Now I will 'give' as the Lord 'gives' me and I am not going to set any times in between posts.

One other thing that was concerning me was this. Please do not think that if something that I have written 'hits home' hard to you that I am 'getting' at you. I am not like that.

I write to encourage my broithers and sisters in Christ. Sometimes when I have heard a sermon preached I think that the Pastor knows all about me and my sins and that he is deliberately picking on me!!

Well perhaps that happens through my writings. If is does then please be assured that I am not picking on you. The sins I write about are my own sins and the faults that I highlight are my faults and no one elses.

I love you all in Christ and I send a special thankyou for your prayers at this time.

God bless you all.

LOL

Your brother in Christ

Iain

Whatever you give us will be "Manna from Heaven"Iain. You re "letting go and letting God" take you on the next stage of your journey.  Sometimes a door seemingly has to close because the Heavenly Father has something different in store for us. May you see things more clearly. Take things steady dear Brother........In His Timing!  Spiritual indigestion is painful!

Ria, so you have two doggies....What are they?
I have my Sunday Dog and two lovely black long-haired cats. They are all rescued.

I am having a day of peace today and will not come back on. So I am sending love and blessings  in Jesus' Name to all you dear Ones.

I am back today after a long drive to Don's doctor appointment yesterday.  Today, I had better get in the groove and work on this house - but first....

Pat S.:  Thanks ever so much for devotions today.  And, everything else you do.

Jenny:  Hello to you - how nice that you are thinking of M. L.King.  I have a few mixed feelings about him but he was a person to challenge one's thinking about race.

Papa John:  It  is always good to see you posting.

Ria:  It is impossible to move the government in any country sometimes.  Our major problem in this area is poor air quality and none of the elected local and state governments work hard enough on this fact.  Oh, there are just too many problems to name.  Wish you luck on finding an English Bible - they must have some available as we found the people in your country spoke excellent English.

Happy Birthday to Angela

Welcome to new posters.

Jerry:  It is 9:30  A.M. where you are - time to wake up!

May our God give a truly good morning to each of you!  In reading Iain's post this morning, I'm reminded of something I once read from, I believe, C.H. Spurgeon.  He said, "Do not let the pulpit drive you to the Word, but let the Word drive you to the pulpit.  Dear brother, it is when you write about your experience with God that we all profit.  Do not "force" the writing.  God will do that for you.

Greetings to Pat, Ria, Jenny, Carol, Al and the rest who will pop in later.

I will go to Mom's and work on sorting her stuff again today.  Big job.

I am going to post some PRAISE reports over in the prayer thread.

God bless!

Good morning everyone.  It is good to see Pat with her good devotional thoughts, along with Ria, Iain, Jennifer, Al, Janet and Carol.

Iain, sorry about your pain and sleepless nights.  I can sympathize with you as one who suffers arthritis in the spine as well as bulging disks.  Fortunately I have medicine which helps me to cope with pain and also I have learned to avoid things which I know are going to make it worse.  I get comfort from Paul's statement in
2 Corinthians 12:7-9

"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.  For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

I hope you all have a nice day.  Tomorrow we are leaving for a week in the mountains of northern Georgia so we have some packing and last minute things to get done today.

--- Papa John    ;D          <:))))><<

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful day here in Georgia, a bit warm but at the moment the sun is shining but a few clouds are rolling in and we may have some showers this afternoon.

Ria, your comment about wanting an English Bible made me think that you can easily access the full Bible from several websites without charge.  Here is a link to the webpage I maintain for our church and if you click on the link to the left that says "Devotional Links" and scroll down you will see listed a number of Bible resources.  www.wpcsnellville.org (http://www.wpcsnellville.org/).

Iain, I think you have made a wise decision in not trying to push yourself in your writing.  We will look forward to your words when you feel God's hand in your work.

I am going to do a little shopping with my wife and she is ready to go so will stop for now.

Since I hadn't opened a subject for prayer for Darrel, I will tell you our praise report here!

After a good exam and another treadmill stress test, the doctor pronounced Darrel's heart "just fine!" :D ;D ;D  The fainting spells and shortness of breath he has been experiencing are caused by a blood pressure med he was given to help his prostate.  The dr. took him off that, told him to see a urologist, and sent us on our way.

GOD IS SO GOOD---ALL THE TIME!

Well, folks, it's good to see the conversation here already today.

I must tell you of my experience yesterday.

I had many errands to run, some of them involving driving on our busy highway 401.  I also went to the Building Box and then to Home Depot to price a certain item and then I was on my way home on the highway from Cambridge to Guelph when I came to a red light with a very long tractor trailer/semi in front of me.

I applied my brakes and nothing!  My foot went to the floor boards!  I prayed!  I pumped the brakes a bit and got stopped and momentarily thought that perhaps my foot had also touched the gas pedal at the same time causing the car to go forward (with very large feet, this sometimes happens!).

Well, when I got going again, I thought to myself (and the traffic was very heavy since it was just about 6 pm) "There's another light at Whitelaw Rd. and then that large hill so I'm going to try these brakes again."

NOTHING!   My foot went to the floor board and no pumping would work.  Well, I was in sort of heavy traffic so I used my gears and went down to first gear and got way off the road, put the hood up, flashers on and tried to figure out how to get across the heavy traffic across the road to a body shop to phone my son, Andrew.

I managed it finally and we called CAA and they came and towed my car to Carline where it sits!  I have no idea yet about the damage this will do to my wallet!!!  So, I'm here without wheels.  I'm so glad that I didn't have a trip to London, etc.  I'm so happy that God was with me and that this didn't happen on the Highway 401!!!

Anyway, now I'm waiting for the phone call!

Papa John, enjoy your days away in the mountains of Georgia.  Wish I could come too!  LOL

Great to see you both, Ria and Jenny!    I'm glad that the heat spell is over for you.  How's the water damage, Ria, from the broken dyke?

I'm praying for you, Iain.   I am so blessed by your writing.  I'll just wait patiently until you feel able to write again.  I'm just going to go back and read over some of your past devotionals.  Having experienced a bit of what you are going through due to nerve root damage as a result of an accident, I sympathize with you.

Great report on Darrell, Janet!  Glad to read that.  Yes, this will be a difficult day sorting things with your mother.

Carol, how's Don's hand?  Is it any better?  What did the doctor say?

Al, thanks for your little comment to Iain from Spurgeon.  He was a very wise and wonderful preacher.

Now, I hope that Angela saw her birthday cards.  Maybe we'll hear from her a little later on.

I must go and run the vacuum around.

Brother!!!!

I just thought maybe the War in Iraq had started all over again--and right here in Guelph above my hourse here!  I was just clicking the "Post" button to post the above message when all of a sudden, the sound of aircraft was deafening!

Geordie started to bark and the cat, Lauren, ran to her crate and jumped into it.

I went to the back door and there right above the trees were 10 jets streaming across the sky.

Ohhhh, there they are again!  LOL

Well, I presume that this "show" was the Canadian Snowbirds precision flying team getting in formation to fly over the Canadian National Exhibition.  But I'm not sure though!  What a noise!  They've flown over my house twice in the last few minutes!

LOL

Firstly, a huge thank you to all for my birthday wishes yesterday.  How nice that you noticed.

We had a pretty bad day in our household yesterday.  We were really feeling Satan's work on our lives.  So, I shipped my daughters off to my ex-husband and called a family meeting (I'm living in a household with my Mom (Anne Coughey for those who've noticed her here), my Dad, my brother Luke and my daughters.  Well, thankfully we were able to work through our problems and ended the evening with some much-needed family prayer time.

Because of the turmoil in the household I never did get to log on to see my birthday cards.  I surely wish I had!

I must say I'm very touched by Iain's postings.  I pray the Lord will continue to speak through him to us in His time.

BTW, I too heard the jets Pat, but I didn't get outside quickly enough to see them.  They certainly set my heart to racing.

Have a great Thursday everyone!!

oh, dear Pat,  what a trying time.

Praising the Lord that you are alright.

Papa John, thanks for sharing your post on Paul.

I think Judy was asking about that bible verse on NEM yesterday.

Hope she sees it--makes clear the "thorn in the side"..

Heading for the prayer forums.

Short week; I will be heading to Penna. until Tuesday.

Can hardly believe summer is over and my dear grandson left for college.

Oh, how I remembered his birth and now he's off to college.

He is such a good boy, graduated high school bearing turned  17 when he graduated; and now a young man heading out in pursuit of becoming a lawyer.

Good Christian heart beating inside of him and I just gave his future to the LORD.

Please keep him in your prayers whenever you get a chance.

Love in Christ,
Joyce

It was strange, Angela.  There were 10 jets flying in formation but with a space and one lonely jet flying below the rest.  I wonder if that's to do with a loss of a pilot at one time or other.

It sure had MY heart racing.

Glad you saw your cards, Angela.  Get your mother posting in here, ok?  I know that she'll enjoy the fellowship.

In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear.
And safe in such confiding, for nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid,
But God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

Wherever He may guide me, no want shall turn me back.
My Shepherd is beside me, and nothing can I lack.
His wisdom ever waking, His sight is never dim.

HYMN HISTORY:

Luke 12:32
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

One of the surprises about devotional verse of the mid-nineteenth century is the way in which it sold. Edition after edition of verse by writers who would not be accounted poets in the strict sense were bought up. Anna L. Waring's poems had that welcoming experience. At the age of thirty in 1850 she published her "Hymns and Meditations", a small book of nineteen hymns which by 1863 had gone into ten editions, and contained thirty-eight hymns.

A Glamorganshire Welsh woman, her poems have the phrase and turn of one who not only had a genuine piety but knew how to express it. Four of her hymns have found permanent recognition: "My Heart Is Resting O My God", "Go Not Far From me O My Strength", "Father I Know That All My Life and In Heavenly Love Abiding".

The nineteenth century would have voted for the first named as her best hymn, but the twentieth, judging by the popularity of its choice, goes for "In heavenly love abiding". Not a robust or a bold hymn of discipleship, but one of calm and complete gospel assurance.

Wherever He may guide me,
No wants shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me,
And nothing can I lack:

His wisdom ever waketh,
His sight is never dim;
He knows the way He taketh,
And I will walk with Him.

Karma ~ Congrats on the 2nd!!!  Will check it out later.  Did it!  The gristmill is awesome.  Not many of them left today.  Very suiting for 'In the Past'.

Carol ~ I do believe that Jerry was up today by 9:30AM.  Progress!!!

Jery used to post from this site and I thought it was fitting to post it today.

DOES GOD STILL HEAL TODAY?

"Therefore confess your sins [and faults] to each other and
pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer
of a righteous man is powerful and effective" (James 5:16,
NIV).

When it comes to divine healing, there is never a shortage
of quacks. There are faith-healers and there are
fake-healers. And when it comes to some TV so-called
evangelists, I sometimes wonder which ones are in the
majority.

Among us ordinary people some claim that God still heals
today. Others aren't sure. Some agree that God can heal but
they don't believe he will heal them. Others say that if
it's God's will, or if we have enough faith, God will heal
us. And some say we are as sick as we choose to be.
Personally, I like the saying I heard the other day:
"Christians shouldn't be any sicker than they ought to be."

Regarding faith, as Jesus pointed out we only need faith
the size of a mustard seed to receive God's blessings.
Furthermore, if I understand it correctly, the faith of the
faith-healer is just as necessary (perhaps even more so) as
that of the one being prayed for. With fake-healers when a
person they pray for (often prey on) isn't healed, they
pass the blame onto the sick person telling them they just
didn't have enough faith. Yeah, right!

What James is saying is tremendously important in that to
be healed of many ills, we need to first confess our sins
and faults. What the Bible taught 3,000 years ago and what
modern medical science has confirmed is that "A joyful
heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the
bones."

When we fail to resolve past hurts, bitterness, guilt,
anger, hostility, a critical spirit and so on, and bury,
repress, and deny these negative emotions, we never bury
them dead but very much alive. Either we confront and
resolve these issues in a creative way or they will express
themselves in a destructive way. This can be through any or
all of the following ways: (1) emotionally in depression,
anxiety, fears, stress, and/or through impaired
relationships; (2) spiritually in our relationship to God,
feeling that he is distant or we get angry at him; and/or
(3) through a physical illness. Regarding the latter, what
we often don't realize is that many of our ills are either
caused by or greatly aggravated by these super-charged
repressed negative emotions.

To be healed we need to follow God's instructions and
confess and resolve all of our sins, our negative spirit,
and all of our super-charged repressed negative
emotions--the things that make us sick. As Peter said, "Get
rid of all malicious behavior and deceit. Don't just
pretend to be good! Be done with hypocrisy and jealousy and
backstabbing" (See 1 Peter 2:1-2, NLT). Repressing these
things does not get rid of them.

Then some illnesses are simply because we live in a sinful,
broken world and are all affected. Some ills, too, are
allowed by God to help us grow. The Apostle Paul had some
ailment that he prayed three times for God to heal. God
didn't. Through this, Paul learned the efficiency of God's
grace which helped him to live with his problem.

Jesus said to those who were infirmed, "Do you want to be
made well?" As I've said before, wishes don't wash. We need
to genuinely want to be made well and accept personal
responsibility for doing our part in the healing process.
God doesn't go against his own laws. We either resolve our
sins and issues or suffer the natural consequences.

Speaking personally, in my youth I was taught that
Christians should never be angry and that you can't trust
your feelings--so I learned early in life to repress and
deny my pent-up negative emotions. By the time I was in my
early 30s I suffered from painful bursitis in both
shoulders and miserable hay-fever. But when I got into
recovery and resolved my anger, hurts, grief and fears, I
was healed. I haven't suffered from either bursitis or
hay-fever in years, for which I am very thankful.

Thus I believe it is true that "Christians shouldn't be any
sicker than we ought to be."

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, in any of my problems,
conflicts or ills, please help me to understand the nature

Ria, that is so sad about the people having flooded houses.  Water can be so damaging to so many family treasures.

Thanks Angela!  I might take you up on it.  I have to put a cheque into the bank at Stone Rd. Mall and was planning on doing that on the way home yesterday when all of this happened.

We'll talk on the phone.  I suppose I could take the bus but want to know something?  I've never been on the bus in Guelph and we've lived here since 1985!!!

Pat, I was in a state of alarm as I read your posting fearing you were going to say you can not been able to stop and had run into the back of the vehicle in front of you.  Was relieved to read you and your car were not damaged.  Hopefully it will not be a major expense, but with cars these days it usually is.  It sounds like this will be a good opportunity for you to see Angela again since she has offered to give you a ride.

I am not going to name names today.  My wife wore me out with the grocery shopping and it is time for a little nap.  She has gone to the church to prepare the packets for the children as she does each week.

See you all later.

Hi Pat,

WHen I am in Penna.; I very seldom have any time to go on line.

So short a time there with so much to do. Even
when I am having my "quiet time" I usually wander to the stream behind our house.
I am so blessed because they did something to a big lake near by and it has filled our stream to a new level.--the sound is so soothing.

My grandaughter has been enjoying herself so very much ---she walks the length of the stream with the dog and loves the quiet time--meditates a lot.

It is good to see my grandkids smile again after their parents divorce.  So very hard for all but the good LORD is showing us how to go on for all concern.  HIS love and strength is showing through making it easier each day.

The other night the sunset from the lake which the stream goes into was glorious !! We enjoyed it so much and then I made a wonderful blazing campfire for us to enjoy.

Tomorrow we will set up the telescope to try to see "Mars"...

Etta, what a lovely friend you are to share Jerry's posting.

I enjoyed it so very much.

By the way, Pat, is there a place for us to post our loving inspiring emails that we receive.

I thought about putting them here or maybe in Manna or another folder.

I wait for your answer as I have some lovely inspiring emails that have come across my puter that I would love to share.

Prayers that all are well, please take care and as always,

Love in CHrist,

Joyce

Hello everyone.

Pat, I'm sorry to hear about the brakes on your car.  I'm so glad it didn't turn out worse than it did!  I heard the airplanes, and I saw them too!  It was deafening, but they were neat to watch.

Angela-Happy birthday from yesterday!  Although I already wished you one at Bingeman's, when I ran into you and the girls.  That was a nice little chat we had.  Glad to see you on CP.

I'm a little frustrated today, it seems to be one of those days that everyone gets mad at me.  Oh well, it's days like these that build our character right?  I have to run, but God bless you all.  Jen.

"IN HEAVENLY LOVE ABIDING."

Words in a frame on my sill for ages. They always uplift me.
Thank-you Pat.  That will do very nicely for my favourite hymn.  Music is just fine too.

No wonder it's my favourite...It's Welsh! Like my Mother...

BEAUTIFUL!

I am back from the Doctor, He has ordered a bone density test, mammogram and sent me over to the hospital for blood work. At the office the nurse couldn't get the blood. Since my  medical card is still pending the hosp., told me that if I don't get the card the bloodwork will cost $200.00 OUCH!!!!

He also put me on an anti-depressent and gave me a new inhaler so I won't have to use the other one as often.

He still has to refer me to an ENT, GYN, and an eye doctor. trying to get all caught up on the different things that have been put off living in the desert. But they don't do it all at once, I go back in 1 month.

That my report for today.

We'll be praying for you Marilyn, let us know how things go.  How are you settling into your new house?  That was quite a move.

Pat & Iain thanks for your words of encouragement and wisdom.

Iain pain is no fun and it sure interferes with the thoughts and ability to have a nites rest, when you are well keep writing.

Pat: I was able to get Larry's link-- no problem.

Pat driving with no brakes is hard on the nerves but did you ever drive a school bus when the brakes failed,  I have.

I went with the ladies shopping at Hillcrest Mall to-day, Pat do you remember when Jim did the driving now Jackie or Gail they take turns.

Ria were you able to speak with Aunt Lena to-day?

Larry looking at your church link it is a very active work for the Lord.

Blessing to you all
Ruth

I am finally home again, and so tired I can barely "wiggle." :-\  Still lots of sorting to do at Mom's.

Beth's birthday is today, so I took her out for dinner tonight.  She wanted a chicken fried steak.  I had some Mexican food.  Too much of it, in fact, even though I saved about half for tomorrow.  I haven't been eating much for some time now.

Anyway, I think a hot shower and early bedtime are in order for this ol' girl tonight! :)

Ruth, thanks for the comments on our church webpage.  It is something I really enjoyed.  Unfortunately, when I first posted that link for Ria this morning I misspelled it and later went back and corrected it so it works.

We had an electrical storm and lost power about 5:30 pm.  About 6:45 we got the car out and went to dinner as the power was still out.  After eating we stopped at the library for a few minutes and it was almost 9 pm before we got back home.  It sounds like we are going to get more rain tonight.  This morning on way to grocery shopping we stopped at the YMCA and reactivated our membership so we can go back to the pool.  Think we may go tomorrow for the first time since last November.

See you tomorrow.

Thanks, Pat for the devotional - I don't often mention it, I know, but I never miss it.  And there's always something in it for me.  :)

It's nearly 10:00 and I have to be at work by 8:00 tomorrow morning so I'll have to be cutting my visit here short tonight.  I'll make up for it tomorrow.  ;D

Pat, the Lord was surely with you in your experience today.  I'm so glad you were able to avoid a collision and damage to the car, and that you weren't hurt.

What a lovely evening I've had...   Both Angela and her mother, Anne Coughey, came over for a visit.  We talked a little, laughed a little and even shed some tears and I feel so good now that they were here.

We'll do it again soon.

Difficult job, Janet, sorting your mother's belongings.  My heart goes out to you.

Where are you, Marilyn?  Hope you're doing better now.

Now, where's Jane?

Thanks Jeanne, for the nice comments on the devotional.  Nice to hear that people receive a blessing from them.

I expect that Jenny, Ria and Iain are all tucked into bed.  I wish I were!  Pretty soon I will be.  ;D

Yes, Ruth, I did drive a school bus when the brakes failed once!  I didn't have any children on board though.  Did you?  I remember too having to go up to Huntsville to bring a bus back from a driver who was there with a load and it had no clutch!  I had to drive it to King City that way!  That was a trip and a half!

Thanks Larry for fixing that link.  I've just had a good look at it.  Did you start it from scratch?  Or have you taken over from another person?  Great job!  (Nice to see Christian Photographers on there as well!)
