Morning Devotional...

Matthew 6:13.  "And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

God is really concerned for where we go and what we do in this world.  He's Lord even of the smallest and most insignificant movements and actions.  He Who sets the bounds for wind and waves also sets the bounds for men and events.  Nothing and no one can exceed those bounds.

And He Who knows the minds and hearts of all men also sets the bounds of evil in this world.  Even Satan himself is entirely limited and frustrated in all his evil intentions.

So it's on account of God's absolute sovereignty that we can pray as our Lord here tells us, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."  He hears and answers those who love Him.

God's special people pray this prayer because they trust God their Father and because they distrust themselves.  May God Himself move each of us to this prayer as we enter elach new day.  Amen.

Pat recently used this hymn - but that only proves its worthiness!

Take My Life, and Let It Be
(Click to hear music)

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:1,2

I went for a little visit of five days (to Areley House). There were ten persons in the house, some unconverted and long prayed for, some converted, but not rejoicing Christians. He gave me the prayer, "Lord, give me all in this house!" And He just did.

Before I left the house every one had got a blessing.

The last night of my visit after I had retired, the governess asked me to go to the two daughters. They were crying.  Then and there both of them trusted and rejoiced; it was nearly midnight. I was too happy to sleep, and passed most of the night in praise and renewal of my own consecration; and these little couplets formed themselves, and chimed in my heart one after another till they finished with "Ever, Only, ALL for Thee!"

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

Good morning, all....have a wonderful day!

Do you ever wonder how you can sleep so much?  Or am I the only one that loves to sleep?  I came home from church yesterday and got my book.  I went to the little bed in the front room.  Covered up with a light blanket and turn on the light on the bed.  I read for maybe a half hour, shut off the light and went to sleep.  I woke up later and thought, I am still sleepy.  So went back to sleep.  Then I woke, fixed a bite to eat and watched some TV.  Every thing is Katrina.  I feel so sorry for all those displaced people but I don't feel sorry for the media that is trying to put the blame on someone, anyone but them.  I turned the TV off and went to bed with my book.  I read for awhile and turned off the light and went to sleep.  I can't believe I slept until 8:30 this morning.  And then I wonder why my eyes are puffy!

The trash has been taken and I do remember twice in the night I heard hard rain hitting my windows.  The fields have ponds in them this morning.  So I am happy to know that I have no where to do today.

Hi everyone.

Not much to say today.  This is the day for the housekeeper so everything will be spotless shortly, which is always nice.  We sometimes go out for lunch just to avoid messing up the kitchen for awhile.  I don't think I will be going anywhere today, although went to coffee earlier this morning.  I have a big project to get started on and today may be the day.

Pat, I did print out all of Jack's writings that you have on the CP site and put them into a booklet folder and made a label for the booklet.  This way Pat and I can read them from time to time and perhaps I can share them with others.

Etta Sue, your sleeping sounds like me.  Due to my heart problems I don't have much energy and it doesn't take alot to tire me out.  Fortunately a rest period or sleeping overnight usually restores what little energy I have.

Marilyn, sorry to hear that you were so tired yesterday but it sounds like you excercised good judgment in resting rather than continuing to push yourself.  We each should listen to what our bodies are telling us.

Al, thanks for the fine devotional today.

Marilyn

Good Morning I didn't post the first time I was here reading. I slept sound all night long even after my long nap yesterday afternoon. Thick fog as usual here today., I am driving to Eureka  shortly to take Ruth to the foot doctor. So I will be back later.

Etta Sue, back in "the good old days" when I could sleep like that, I discovered that the more I slept, the more I wanted to sleep!  Then later, when I went through a period of depression, I learned that wanting to sleep all the time is a classic symptom of depression.  NOW, I just wish I could go to sleep when I go to bed, and wake up in the morning refreshed.  And I am doing so much better!  While on our trip, I managed to get off the sleeping pills and am now sleeping naturally again.  I am so thankful for that!

Larry, you always have projects in the wings, don't you?  It is so nice that you love computers and have the skills to use them to benefit your family and others.  Blessings.

Ruth, I'm sorry about the church you used to attend.  So many churches are having serious problems these days.  The devil is alive, and knows he has but a short time to wreak havoc here on earth.  But WE WIN!!!  Praise God, no devil, demon, or anything else will ever have the victory over our Mighty Lord!!

Today is Beth's 44th birthday.  She has requested Darrel to cook her and her friend Gloria a steak, and with that she wants wilted lettuce salad, baked potato and for dessert, lemon pie.  I will need to go to the store, also need to find something for a gift for her.  Hard to buy for her in her situation, but maybe I can find a nice tee shirt and some jeans with elastic waist.  We only have two stores here to shop in for clothes.  :(  BUT---we are getting a new clothing store soon!!  YIPPEE!!

And now, time for Janet to get to work!  (again, been at it for a while already.)  ;)

Very interesting debate on my local radio station today.  The two FOX reporters or TV cameramen (just forget which) who were kidnapped in Palestine or the Gaza strip were made to convert to Islam before they were released.  And then after they were safe in the hands of their rescuers, they recanted their "conversion".

What do you think about this?

Would this be something that you would do if you knew that you'd be shot if you didn't.  Would God forgive us for doing this?  Would it be right?

Al:   Thank you for the song - a simple message but so nice.  "Take My Life....."

Happy Birthday to you......Beth

mkileen  WELCOME TO CP

Ruth Sad at your church and it is happening so many places.  Ours was much more vibrant with the former pastor but now - it is very different - too quiet with a new pastor who seems to be bringing it down.

Judy Hi - I like what you said about church.  That is very true that we all have to put more effort into the church and people ourselves.

Larry:  How is your son doing in his job search?  Is everything going OK for them while living with her parents?

Etta Sue:  I watched History channel on the Katrina & there was a ton of good news & how so many things were "done right" but that never went on the t.v. coverage. Still, lots of blame - I cannot imagine losing everything.

Pat: I could never blame anyone for pretending to convert to another religion at gun point.  Having never been in that situation, I can only see myself saying about anything to survive.  Thinking of the Christians in Rome who were fed to the lions - how strong they must have been - do we know if everyone defended Christianity to the end?  .........you had a houseful of kids for the weekend - bless you.  Rest up!

Do you mean if we denounced our faith to save our earthly lives?  Hmmm....I do believe that many Christians have been tested before.  Perhaps Christ should have yielded to the temptations in the desert.  The Old Testament is filled with examples of being faithful.   While it's easy for me to sit in the comfort of my living room and say that I would face my death in the name of Christ, I can only pray that my faith would actually be strong enough to resist denying Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Thanks Carol and Carl.

This really has me thinking today.  And our Toronto radio station has many phoning in with their thoughts today and I wondered how you all felt.

That's a really beautiful picture, Marillyn.  It shows forth the glory of the creating God.  Many pieces of art today show forth only the folly of man in denying God's glorious creating art.  He IS the great Artist!

Relative to the question of whether we would deny the faith under extreme pressure.  I pray that I would not.  I must depend upon my Father alone to sustain me in the purpose of glorifying His Name under pressure.  I don't believe we should deny Him or falsely "convert," but I also believe that one who would fall under such circumstances would still be able to confess sin and be cleansed of it.  My duty would be to love the "enemy" enough to tell Him the truth even when I am threatened with the extreme liklihood of death.  My ability to live up to that duty is in my Father's hands.

Marilyn

Thank you Pat and Al, I am just so excited.

Well, Congratulations, Marilyn!  And it is a lovely photo.

Pat, I think none of us knows how we would act under such extreme pressure.  On the one hand, I think that if a person said to God in his heart "God, please forgive me, You know I do not mean the words I am being forced to say", that God understands.  Of course, even that would not be the unforgivable sin, and God will forgive.

I was also thinking that perhaps neither the reporter nor the cameraman are strong Christians, so it would be less traumatic for a "nominal" Christian to SAY he converted to Islam, in order to save his life.  But who knows, really?  Only those two men themselves.  If they are not Christians, I pray they have been drawn to the Saviour through this horrible experience.

Beth and Gloria are still here.  They are outside playing with the dogs and cats.  We had a wonderful meal, and they are stuffed to the gills!  They seemed to enjoy a home cooked meal so much.  And I feel like I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner!  I'm TIRED!!  So I am just waiting for them to say they are ready, and I will take them back to the Home.

Beth had several visitors, and numerous gifts.  One of the girls who works at the home even baked her a little cake.  They treat her really good there, and I hope she appreciates them for it, and remembers it wasn't their decision for her to have to be there any more than it was mine.  (She is good to the girls, I think.)  Some of the residents are really nasty to the help, and I just cringe when I hear it.  Sad.

Have a nice evening!

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

I find I need to rest a good bit on the weekends to be ready to face another work week.  I have a dental appt later this week, so worked until 7:15 to even our my work hours total.

Y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann

Al, I would agree completely with your thoughts on this subject.  I believe that we have an abundantly forgiving God who loves us more than we could ever imagine.  With the exception of blashemy of Him, I believe that he will forgive us of our transgressions, both unconscious and concious, with repentence.  This forgiveness, of course, does not come without consequences, whatever they might be.

Congrats, Marilyn
