Some News We Should Know About...- Interest Surges in Voodoo (http://www.sermonaudio.com/new_details.asp?ID=15431)
NEW ORLEANS — Last year, doctors told a 41-year-old New York woman who had been bedridden with meningitis and other ailments that she should prepare for the worst. Rather than resign herself to her fate, she boarded a train to New Orleans — her illness does not permit her to fly — and made an offering at the tomb of Marie Laveau, the "voodoo queen" who died in 1881 but has re-emerged as the center of a far-reaching religious movement.

Morning Devotional...For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Romans 5:10
We rightly value what the Lord Jesus did for us in His suffering and death on the Cross.
Thereby we have been delivered from the righteous penalty of our wrong-doing, for He "died for our sins" (1 Cor. 15:3).
We equally rejoice, however, in the truth that our ongoing, daily salvation from the power of sin is vitally linked with His unceasing, high priestly work of interceding for us (Heb. 7:25).
For happy, useful Christian lives, we must appropriate both aspects of His work for us.
--G. HallBefore the throne of God above,
I have a strong, a perfect plea,
A great High Priest, whose name is Love,
who ever lives and pleads for me.

Sonja............
No, no, no. Please dear lady, I didn't mean for my comment to sound the way you took it. I meant it the way I wrote it only.
The answer to my.......Old once and young twice was answered by Boots....... ;)
Quote"Lee, The first thing that came to my mind was perhaps some of us "OLDIES" are in our second childhood."
I just thought of something. Those of us with four stars are in fact Seniors. I guess the five stars are for those now in their "Second childhood" ;D
Pat.........
Thanks for the devotional. Would you mind if I add: "vs 3) "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made." vs 4) "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men". vs 5) "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."

You know very well we are up to our knees in snow. Grab your ankles. ;D
Pat - lovely devotional sis. 'Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus.'
Welcome to CP Neil.
'Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.'
Hebrews Chapter 11 Verse 1
We look every which way for evidence in order that we may be convinced that what we believe and hope for is true.
The Lord in His love and mercy has provided all the evidence that we need for this life and it is contained in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
True faith takes God at His Word. Nothing added, nothing subtracted, no ifs and no buts. Our duty in this life is to honour our God and to enjoy Him in all that we do.
Our souls must be steeped in His Word for us to enjoy the benefit of His counsel and wisdom.
Whatever God has said will be done.
There is nothing in heaven or in earth that can thwart His purposes. If God has given me a promise then I can be fully persuaded that it will come to pass.
Days, weeks and months may pass by with little sign of it happening, but it shall be all the sweeter when the time is right for it to be fulfilled. He does all things well and that includes the delays.
Listen to what the Apostle wrote about Abraham's faith. 'Who against hope believed in hope...' 'He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform.'
I have found that whenever I have received a promise through God's Word everything in my life seems to contradict the fulfilling of it. There seems to be no possible way of it ever coming to pass!
I look for external evidence and my spirit sinks. My soul or is it my reason and mind want more than just His Word. Oh to be sure that what I am doing is God's Will.
To be sure that my salvation is true. To be sure that come the days when my last breath will be taken that all will be well with my soul.
Many such conflicts plague believers day in and day out. Each day is a struggle to keep above the waves of doubt that seem to be a permanent part of life.
Fervent prayer is made for security and for assurance, yet the evidence required is before them! God's Word is true.
He remains faithful!
The darkest hour is just before the dawn and often it will seem that the knife must be put to the throat of the promise before He brings His Word to pass.
Husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters will let us down from time to time but God will never fail us. He keeps His promises.
His word is sure.
Friend, even our unbelief cannot stop God's Word coming to pass! Is the promise that you are waiting to be fulfilled in your life more difficult for God to perform than His work of creation?
There are times when we are so taken up with our own immediate problems and cares that we can be quick to point the finger at God and blame Him for the catastrophes that come our way.
Even our disappointments have been ordered by Him. They are as much a part of His plan as the greatest blessings that we receive. He does not make mistakes!
Let us become spiritual detectives, searching the evidence provided in order that we may glean a golden harvest for our needy souls.
Take God at His Word today and bid farewell to doubts and fears.
I do not know what God has planned for me today, but I am confident that it will be good.I have often let my Best Friend down but I am confident that my Best Friend will never let me down. He knoweth the way that I take. Lead on dear Lord, lead on!
LOL

Good-Morning everyone from England.
Pat Thanks for the devotional. I noticed a tap in re voodoo. I am amazed some folks still believe that "mumbo jumbo" when we have the Truth in Jesus Christ. I pray for them, they are taking a short-cut to hell. I do pray for all Christians working for the Lord in this area.
Ria Hallo zuster. schrijven later...O.K.?
I was reading my Bible while I waited, and waited and waited for my modem to get going this morning. The Manufacturer is sending me C.Ds of new Modem update.
Anyway one verse shone out to me and I had a little chuckle. May I share with you all?........
;)and the times of this ignorance God winked at; ;)
but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent. (Acts 17:30)
Isn't God good? I saw Him 'wink' at me. I felt His nearness in that moment. He knew just what I needed as I had asked Him this morning to come near to me. He is so real. So loving and forgiving. When we repent He "winks" at us, just like a loving father.
For anyone who is hurting today and comes this way, please know that our God reigns ......His Name is Jesus and He wants to bring joy into your life. All at C.P. know Him as Saviour and will be glad to pray for you ......just ask.
"And the God of peace shall bruise satan under your feet shortly....The Grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you" (Romans 16:20)

6:40 AM 28 Degrees, Sunrise is just beginning. It will be fair today. God's days are a blessing indeed!
Ria, I will be in prayer for your father and you today. [/size]
Jenny, Thanks for the verse about God winking at us. I had never heard it expressed that way before.
Hello, Neil! Welcome to CP
May each of us have a Christ-centered day. :)
Hi everyone. I wasn't feeling too good last night so went to bed pretty early and as a result got up early this morning. Glad to say I am feeling better today. This is the day we have to take my sister-in-law to the airport so she can return to her home in Kansas City, Missouri. We have surely enjoyed her visit. Last evening she and my wife put up the Christmas tree and decorated the house. I will be sharing some of the pictures in the new challenge for December. It is the first time since they were children living at home that they have done this together. Everything looks very nice.
Pat, your devotional points out how thankful we should be to God that he has provided the "high priest" in Jesus Christ to intercede for our sins. Iain, your devotional points out to me once again how we should just accept the Bible as it is written. God has done and will do what he says in the Bible.
Ria, so sorry to hear that your dad has pnumonia. That can be very serious for older folks and especially for those in a weakened condition. I will be praying for him and for you and your family today that God will place he healing hand on him and restore him to health.
Jenny, do hope you will get your computer fixed shortly and that the disks you will be getting will do the job. It is very frustrating when the machines don't work as they are suppose to work.
Good to see everyone posting.

FONT SIZE ON CHRISTIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS
A couple of months ago, we enlarged the font size of the text on CP. The default size is almost the same now as font size 4.
With that in mind, please remember that if you click on the size button, the default for the software is font size 2 and so if you don't change that "2" to a "4", you are making your post's text very small.
It's best to refrain from using that size button unless you are specifically wanting to use it for some special post.
Good morning folks. I was up early today to take my eldest son to swim practice. 5:00 am comes around pretty quickly. <yawn>
I am going to read the devotion and post from others.
Good morning everyone
The devotionals today are just wonderful ;D
HI Suzanne! You have a nice glow today! hehehehe... how is your morning going?
Hi Suzanne and Sonja!
<<<YAWN>>> from me too, Sonja.
I have a huge Avon order to pack.
Hi Sonja, my morning is great (remember I am walking by faith on that statement) ;D
I am playing to see what I can learn to do different to my posts, I did get a recipe card to the digital art site, it was made in psp so I thought Iwould put it there instead of under recipes. I hope it isn't too large!
You are glowing too now ;)
John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father , full of grace and truth.
I also was reading and this scripture popped out at me.
John 1:3-5
3) Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4) In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5) The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
Good Morning, Suzanne!
I haven't been to see your Digital Art yet but I'll go now. What software do you use? Paint Shop Pro is so easy to use to compress and re-size.
Yes, Pat I use PSP 7 and 8. I did compress the image, I just hope it was enough. ???
Good Morning: Just stopping by to say thank you to you Pat and to You Iain for today's devotionals. Always timley in my life.
I enjoyed the links to the photos by the Hubble space telescope. Those are some awesome pictures, if you haven't checked them out I suggest that you do.
Well I am going to bea's house this morning and to the doctor for the results of my Bone density tests this afternoon.

QuoteI'd like to give you a tiny bit of sound Christian advice. A church is not a place to feel warm fuzzys, and feel good. The truth is Neil, we should feel very uncomfortable in any church where the pastor teaches the Word of God.
God is a loving God. He created us for HIS pleasure. I know when I am loved, I feel warm fuzzies and I feel good. I don't remember ever leaving my church's worship without feeling good. If I were to feel uncomfortable after hearing my minister preach every time, I probably wouldn't go back. I cry nearly every service but they are tears of joy because I have received the message that was said into my heart. You can see more about Park Chapel Christian Church here (http://parkchapelgreenfieldin.echurchonline.com/).

I agree with this! I feel good when I am at church. I have been to churches and felt very uncomfortable and didn't go back. They just aren't meant for me. I think God will lead you to the right church even if it takes you visiting 20 churches.

Hi Neil...
Go over to Chester and take some of the city walls and the River Dee! LOL
Glad you are over your flu!
Good day! It is supposed to be nice here, but cold. Nice=no wind. ;D
I thought when I read Lee's comments about feeling uncomfortable in church, that maybe he meant that if a pastor is doing his job, he will sometimes "step on our toes." Then we have the choice to be offended, or to receive correction and instruction as we should. Otherwise, I think we should feel at home with the local Body of Christ. Like Etta Sue, if I always felt uncomfortable in a church, I would go find another one where I felt at home. (Just my opinon, folks!)
I need to get started cleaning and putting up some Christmas things here, then I will get more into the Christmas spirit!
Until I figure out how to delete some things from my FTP, I cannot post any more photos. :'( Guess I will have to call my ISP for help.

I agree, Janet. I don't think Lee meant that we shouldn't feel loved or welcome in our church. I got the impression that he was adressing the issue of the Word of God being a "two edged sword" when dealing with the sinful nature of man. I personally find that any time I hold myself up to the mirror of the Word, I find myself severely lacking. At those times I become incredibly amazed by the covering power of the blood of Jesus. Without the cleansing power of the blood, I have no hope at all of attaining perfection in God's eyes. His Word shows how perfect He is, and when we compare ourselves to that, we will be spurred to become more like Him. We will be "uncomfortable" because we will realize that we are not righteous at all. I believe that's what Lee meant, rather than referring to the interaction with the people around us.
Just a quick note on the subject of "being comfortable in church"....
About 25 years ago I had a sister in Christ who is now quite high up in the Anglican Church. She warned us against becoming "too comfortable" and that if we were "too comfortable" in church there was a serious problem. God wants to keep us on our toes. I agree with Lee's pastor that our "toes" need treading on sometimes!
It sure is cold here this evening. I've just got back from a trip around the corner to the post box on my little jalopy. I felt quite sick for a while. Well I tested the waters and it seems I haven't go go out for a while until this cold snap is over. Sometimes I get so frustrated with me! I think of dear Ruth Ann at such times, as she is a sister "under the skin" and suffers with me. Love you Ruth Ann...if you pop in today.
Oh I did see the final part of "Jesus" on t.v. earlier on...and the Lord gave me a gift of tears as I watched His suffering. I love My Saviour with all my heart. He is wonderful!
Christopher is bringing fish and chips home for our tea tonight. We haven't had them for a few months so I am really going to enjoy my meal. Must go now and pop the kettle on. Pat, do you like fish and chips? Did you eat them in Ireland?
Speak later
Jenny X
Oh, Jenny! Fish and Chips! I love fish and chips but they need to be in paper! HAHAHAHA! With malt vinegar!
What memories.
There's a little Fish and Chip shop in Conwy on the main street inside the town walls and outside on the street, there's a sign that says, "Probably the best fish and chips in North Wales"! It's so funny to see that word "probably".
Every time we went to Conwy, we made sure that we had some fish and chips that were probably the best in North Wales! LOL
Enjoy your supper! Or your tea! What do you call it?
Pat It is 6p.m. now but we shall call it tea even if Chris gets here at 7 p.m.
WhenI lived with my Nanna in Keelby, Lincolnshire we had fish straight from the docks at Grimsby.fresh and not from the freezer container ships. Now it comes on big trawlers.....we had skate, which is not available here anymore. Oh it was lovely and those chips..Mmnn I can smell those "suppers" now.
Some nights my cousin Roger and I would walk down to the fish and chip shop in the village. It was in a cottage and you would wait in the hall while they cooked your suppers. One dark night Roger frightened me. He said "Look a ghost"...I was terrified as the village had no electricity then and no street lighting. I saw a white shape in the churchyard among the graves...and didn't I run and so did Rog. ...Years later Roger told me the truth. The white shape was a goat. The new vicar at that time was from Sweden and he drank goats milk. His goat was tethered in the church yard. It's an old Norman church, so you can imagine the atmosphere.
Hope you enjoyed that anecdote Pat....I am off to put the kettle on again..
Love Jenny X
Good Afternoon:
Our first snow storm of the season, pardon me fall is not over and first day of winter has not arrived, but anyway WINTER HAS ARRIVED AND THE SNOW BLOWER GOT A WORK OUT.
School Bus transportation in some areas was cancelled but not here.
Ruth
Oh, Hi Ruth! Yes I heard that the Dufferin County board schools were open but buses cancelled to Primrose and other outlying schools. Hwy. 24 apparently was a mess!
Oh, Jenny! That's a hoot! Your Roger sounds like Jack! That's the sort of thing he would have done. I remember once I was having a very serious weekend with my Pioneer Girls' group camping in our orchard. (We lived on the farm then). I was trying to get the girls to go into their tents to sleep and all of a sudden, one girls screamed and that started the whole group going and here was my crazy husband running through the orchard with a sheet waving around behind him. I didn't forgive him for a long, long time. We had to double up in the tents.
Our goat back then was white too and sometimes we wondered looking out into the field at the white streak running across the field! HAHAHAHA!
(Hey Jenny, I'd love a cuppa right now! Just milk thanks! And a wee bit of the fish.)
This is for Jenny! (And anyone else who wants to sing along. I see Chris here so he can lead us!)

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Chorus
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Trials and Pain: Piles of Ashes
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful;
nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of
righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
--Hebrews 12:11
If God has singled you out to be a special object of His grace you
may expect Him to honor you with stricter discipline and greater
suffering than less favored ones are called upon to endure....
If God sets out to make you an unusual Christian He is not likely
to be as gentle as He is usually pictured by the popular teachers.
A sculptor does not use a manicure set to reduce the rude,
unshapely marble to a thing of beauty. The saw, the hammer and the
chisel are cruel tools, but without them the rough stone must
remain forever formless and unbeautiful.
To do His supreme work of grace within you He will take from your
heart everything you love most. Everything you trust in will go
from you. Piles of ashes will lie where your most precious
treasures used to be. That Incredible Christian, pp. 122-124
"Lord, give me the grace to withstand 'the saw, the hammer and the
chisel.' I want the finished product; I often chafe under the
process. I submit myself today to Your working. Amen."

Lee, yes, I agree with you as I know that you don't mean church fellowship, which we want to be warm and welcoming, a "second home" really.
What you do mean I guess is that God comforts the afflicted, and also afflicts the comfortable.
Some sermons are good but don't really affect us too much, while others make us sit up and examine ourselves!
Every now and again we should expect God to challenge us through faithful preaching of His word.
And if this never happens then either the preaching is not annointed or we aren't! lol.
Love to all,
it's been a good sunny day here in the Manchester area,
praise the Lord :)
Pat, thanks for that lovely song.
Zachery and I sat here and sang it together. :)

BOY, AM I GLAD MARGIT IS HOME TOMORROW! LOL :)
What shall we do with Chris...Cheeky monkey!...Come home soon Margit, sort him out. He's no good without you!
Pat, that was wonderful....I feel much better for a sing- along-a-Pat. I really feel much uplifted especially since I had a talk to Jesus this afternoon and I said 'I wish Bob were here you always touch him at the right time...Bob is a retired Anglican Minister, a wonderful Shepherd. Always at special moments in my life he appears. He's retired now and I don't trouble him but the Lord tells him when I need him and suddenly the phone will ring or on more than one occasion he arrived at my the door. He conducted my husband's funeral. Anyway this afternoon I had a great need...and the phone rang tonight just before I came here....Yes it was dear Bob. The good shepherd! Now my cup runneth ov er and I can say "How Great Thou art.Oh Lord My God".
Ha ha...we have had some chuckles Pat about Roger and Jack and the "goats". It is good to laugh. We are so lucky to have happy memories. Some folks have nothing good to look back upon. We shall "count our blessings" yes dear? Not sheep tonight Chris..!!! Oh gosh, don't get him onto that subject again please. If he does I shall send him to the Isle of Lewis and let him count the sheep around Iain's place. It's cold there and Margit wouldn't go with him.Just imagine Chris huddled up in a cave gazing out upon sheep and rocks.. ::) ::) ::)..I won't bother.
Now then I hope to pop into Amazon now. It took nearly an hour again to get on line. My virtual memory reminder keeps popping up...roll on new Modem...
Love and God bless.

Hello to everyone.
Jenny, I love fish and chips, but find it hard to read the newspaper they are wrapped in, too much grease. ;D ;D
I am looking forward to having them at least one night while I am in York for the Holidays. :)
Pat mentioned the Voodoo gravesite of Marie Laveau, and I might add it is a very popular place for many people to come to New Orleans. We as Christians do not believe in such things, but many people do. :'( :'(
I lived in Louisiana for over 15 years and have seen evidence of many Voodoo sites in remote cane fields and wooded areas.
The following is my contribution for some humor for today. So Enjoy.
I do not know how many have ever heard this song about Marie. The words, music and singing of Bobby Bare it is what makes it, but you might just enjoy the words,
Intro:
The most famous of all the Voodoo Queens that ever existed
is Marie Leveau, down in Louisiana. There's a lot of weird,
ungodly tales about Marie. She's supposed to have a lot of
magic potions, spells and cures.
Down in Louisiana where the black trees grow
Lives a voodoo lady named Marie Leveau.
She got a black cat tooth and a mojo bone,
And anyone wouldn´t leave her alone.
She'd go URG................Another man done gone.
She live in a swamp in a hollow log
With a one-eyed snake and a three-legged dog.
She got a bent bony body and stringy hair,
And if she ever seen y'all messin´ round there,
She'd go URG............... Another man done gone.
Chorus
And then one night when the moon was black,
Into the swamp come Handsome Jack.
A no-good man like you all know,
He was lookin´ around for Marie Leveau .
He said, "Marie Leveau, you lovely witch,
Gimme a little charm that´ll make me rich.
Gimme million dollars, and I´ll tell you what I´ll do...
This very night I´m gonna marry you."
It´ll be UMMMMMMMM... Another man done gone.
Chorus
So Marie done some magic and she shook a little sand,
Made a million dollars, and she put it in his hand.
Then she giggled and she wiggled and she said, "Hey hey,
I´m gettin´ ready for my wedding day."
But ol´ Handsome Jack said "Goodbye Marie".
You too damn ugly for a rich man like me."
Then Marie started mumblin´, her fangs started gnashin´,
Her body started tremblin´, and her eyes started flashin´.
And she went URG.............. Another man done gone.
So if you ever get down where the black tree grow
And meet a voodoo lady named Marie Leveau,
If she ever asks you to make her your wife,
Man, you better stay with her for the rest of your life
Or it´ll be URG................. Another man done gone.
Boots
I will be back later with some sane talk. ;D
Pat, Thank you so much for all your work and effort in keeping this site going.
Please tell me the truth.
Are you a twin?
No one person can get as much done as you do. ;D ;D
God bless you, Pat. :)
The scripture this morning is very good and touches on the corner stone of Christian belief. John 1: 1-14 says so much we could study it for days.
I have this summary written in the edge of my Bible.
"Son of God became the Son of man so the children of man could become the children of God."

Boots...I am in Birmingham...long way from York.
See you all tomorrow.
Jenny.
YES YOUR RIGHT JENNY, GOODNIGHT ALL GOD BLESS YOU.
What a great joy to have a sister like Ivalou. We always have the bestest times when we are together. We laugh, we talk, we solve the problems of the world. We even shed a tear once in awhile. But we did have some Chinese and then shopped and topped the afternoon off with a milk shake at Steak 'n' Shake. Ivalou is so funny....on the way home she said, 'Oh, I forgot my gift for SAMS Club next week and that is what I went shopping for!!!' We do that all the time. I think it is an excuse to go shopping again!!!
Well, I am calling it an evening.
Maybe tomorrow I will get busy and get out my Christmas decorations... ::) ::)
Etta Sue and Sonja..........
I wasn't trying to open a can of worms. We should be happy in our church and enjoy the worship services. In no way should we sit in church with a gray cloud over our heads. That wouldn't be healthy at all. I'm specifically speaking of the Word of God. Please note that our Lord says much more about hell than He does heaven. We are very sinful people and we must understand that our flesh is weak, and that we must not only be reminded of it by our pastors quoting Scripture, but also in our own studies. Does not our Lord repeatedly speak to us of "Sin"? We know why, because we succumb to it daily. If we are not remined of the errors of our ways by our pastors, we just might forget we are siners. Some churches never speak of sin, and they are fed "Warm fuzzies". Sure, we Christians are a happy family, but we are constantly met with trials allowed by our Lord. It is during these times we grow. That is, if we listen to Him. Why would our pastors quote the following: "Count it all joy when you fall into various trials" (James 1:2). Are we not told to acknowledge our guilt to God and then to accept His forgiveness? Yes, there are many warm and lovely Scriptures that we can, or want to relate to, but most Scripture is telling us "How" we are to live. I repeat, if a pastor only speaks of warm fuzzies, and delivers feel good seromons, he's doing a disservice to his flock. Allow me to give another example. If a pastor teaches on 1 John 2:3, it can be delivered two ways. One is a "Feel gooder", or Two, it can be delivered as an honest heavy. The first is truly a "feel gooder" (If we are dishonest to ourselves), and the second is a stinger, and a reminder that that is truly us, and we've (I've) got to do something to change my ways. If #2 is sometimes violated by us (and I violate it many times), then we must take the initiative to change our thinking and lifestyle. In so doing, the "Sting" goes away and is forgiven, and #1 becomes a reality in our lives. If a pastor delivers this Scripture as a reminder to his flock that temptation is always there, then we should be squirming just a bit.
I am home from my dr. appointment, The Bone density report said that I have some ( a little) Osteoporosis, so she put me on Fosamax once a week. I am beginning to feel like a geriatric, a pill for this and a pill for that. Osteoprosis, arthritis, etc. LOL Help me I'm getting old. well maybe in years but not in spirit. ::)
Jenny I love fish and chips with malt vinegar. Like Pat.

PS Lee I took a picture of the local golf course. Will post it soon.
Nards and Janet...........
Thank you. You both said better than I could have (Did).
Marilyn..........
Don't ever use that word around me...........
("Old")
You're just a kid.
Gotcha Lee!
I still feel good when I leave church, not because the pastor may step on my toes, but because I felt the good Lord there and that is a wonderful feeling.
Our Lord's cleansing of the temple (Mark 11:15ff) should be a message to us about how comfortable we should be in church. It is a "house of prayer," not a shopping mall. We should approach God in awe and reverence. For that reason alone, I think, we shouldn't expect too much "bed of roses" syndrome. Not that we should not love and be loved. Not that we should not have joy. But there should also be true worship - souls attuned to the greatness and glory of God. I don't believe in "sanctified scowls," but I do believe we should have our comforts removed occasionally by the fact that we are in His holy Presence - and we are unholy.
Hi Jerry I see you online. How are you doing? When are you going to join us on regular basis? Soon I hope. Miss you Brother.
Well, hello to you all!
I've been running around like a hen with ..... well you know the rest of it.
I've bee borrowing from Peter to pay Paul today! I hate that but seems I overspent my budget a wee bit so had to go and do some figuring.
Also, last big snow fall in the spring, I bought a really good Yard Works shovel. The second time I used it, it broke. Shortly after, I started to drive my friend Larry to the hospital every day and one thing and another, I never took it back.
Well, I did today! But because of not having the receipt, they were going to only allow me $16.95 and I stood my ground saying that I paid more than twice that for the shovel and it still had the label on it! LOL
Well, just then the store manager walked by and heard me and put his arm over my shoulder and said, "Come with me." He took me to the shovel dept. and had me try out all these shovels and I came home with a $45.00 shovel! What a nice man he was! (Maybe he thought I was too loud! HAHAHAHA)
Then I mailed some photos back to people in the States, Australia and our own Liz on CP too. People who had sent them to me to scan and then with Larry, they got pushed to the back of my desk!
Well, I feel so good today that I have all these things mailed out and a new snow shovel and now I have to pack my Avon that I should have been doing instead of going out to borrow from Peter to pay Paul! LOL
Glad you all liked the hymns. Glad you've posted too Lee and it's so nice that we can disagree on here and not get mad!
Now, I'm off to pack Avon.
(Hey Chris, has your Caps Lock stuck in the "on" position?)
Another Reminder About Font Size
Don't click on the "SIZE" button unless you are going to make your typing larger than font size "4". If you click on it and you don't change the "2" to "4", your font is very small and hard to read by some folks on here.
I enjoyed the discussion on how we feel in our church services.
I have had a busy day today. I cleaned the house, had Darrel help me haul the Christmas tree down from upstairs, got it set up, and then worked on framing. Maybe tomorrow I will get the ornaments out and put them on the tree. The lights are on it already.
We took Beth to that doctor in Amarillo way back in October, and he promised to have the results of her tests to us within a week. Well, she has called three times, and all they say is "We will have the doctor call you back." I called today and sort of read them the riot act, but still got the same result! They said her chart is on the doctor's desk....and that they can only ask him to call. GRRRRR!!! We need that report to send to Social Security as proof of her disability!
You are my help and my deliverer, O Lord, do not delay. Psalm 70:5
Oh, my goodness, Janet! That's awful. I'm so sorry.
By the way, guys! Great graphics in here today.
HAHAHAHA!
Thanks for the reminder, Pat! I loved those graphics, too! May as well have some fun, huh?
Here's a story that I found very anti Christian. I think you all should read it.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 — The Supreme Court appeared troubled and deeply divided today over the prospect that the Constitution might require states to subsidize religious training if they choose to provide college scholarships for other kinds of study.
It was the further implications of the case, more than the case itself, that disturbed a clear majority of the justices as they heard arguments on the validity of the state of Washington's Promise Scholarship Program, which makes awards on the basis of academic merit and financial need but excludes students pursuing a degree in theology.
The exclusion, required under the Washington State Constitution's strict separation of church and state, was successfully challenged by a student at a religious college who would have qualified for the scholarship had he not chosen a major in pastoral ministry. A federal appeals court ruled that the exclusion placed an unconstitutional burden on the free exercise of religion.
The state's appeal of that ruling produced a Supreme Court case of potentially landmark dimensions, raising the profound question of whether the government can ever carve religion out of a general benefit program. "The implications are breathtaking," Justice Stephen G. Breyer observed at one point to Solicitor General Theodore B. Olson, who argued for the Bush administration that the Washington program amounted to "the plainest form of religious discrimination."
Mr. Olson's argument as a "friend of the court" for the student, Joshua Davey, met a skeptical response from Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who may well control the outcome of the case. "Well, but of course, there's been a couple of centuries of not funding religious instruction by tax money," Justice O'Connor told Mr. Olson, adding, "I mean, that's as old as the country itself, isn't it."
Throughout the argument, both Justice O'Connor and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, another justice who seeks to accommodate religious interests, worried aloud that a ruling in Mr. Davey's favor would have the effect of compelling any state that offered tuition vouchers as part of a "school choice" program to include religious schools, regardless of whether the state wanted to create such an inclusive program.
"Can they refrain from making that program available for use in religious schools?" Justice O'Connor asked Mr. Davey's lawyer, Jay A. Sekulow.
"I would think not," replied Mr. Sekulow, the chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, a legal organization founded by the Rev. Pat Robertson.
"So what you are urging here would have a major impact then, would it not, on voucher programs," Justice O'Connor said in a tone of alarm.
For his part, Justice Kennedy seemed to be looking for a way to avoid the broader issue by finding the Washington program to be invalid on narrower grounds
Pat............
I thought the folks and I were in agreement. :)
Janet.............
It would seem that you might take Pat's approach to the hardare store and apply it to your doctor. He just might comply. ;)
I enjoyed reading today's discussion from start to finish! How great to enjoy fellowship and fun with christian friends!
By the way, Etta Sue, Mieka might worry about your eating the Chinese. ;D
Marilyn...........
The following is an answer to your dilemma is found in the list of 101 "Last Days Prophecies"..........
Jesus said Christians would be hated for His name's sake (Luke 21:17; Revelation 6:9-11; 20:4). The banning of the Bible, prayer, the Ten Commandments, nativity scenes, Christmas songs, etc., reflects this trend. Also consider that more Christians were martyed during the past century than during any other period in history.

NEVER GROW OLD (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/nevergro.mid)
(Click to hear music)
Words & Music: James C. Moore, circa 1914
I have heard of a land on the far away strand,
'Tis a beautiful home of the soul;
Built by Jesus on high, where we never shall die,
'Tis a land where we never grow old.
Refrain
Never grow old, never grow old,
In a land where we'll never grow old;
Never grow old, never grow old,
In a land where we'll never grow old.
In that beautiful home where we'll never more roam,
We shall be in the sweet by and by;
Happy praise to the King through eternity sing,
'Tis a land where we never shall die.
Refrain
When our work here is done and the life crown is won,
And our troubles and trials are o'er;
All our sorrow will end, and our voices will blend,
With the loved ones who've gone on before.
Refrain

Believe me, Lee, I would, IF the cotton pickin' doctor would ever answer the phone! The girls keep making excuses for him! >:( Grrrr!
Marilyn, I have been following that case for months now, and saw Josua Davey on TV tonight. It has already been four years, and he is now at Harvard, pursuing a law degree. He said this country needs more Christian lawyers, and that is certainly a fact! Thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention, and please pray that Jay Sekulow wins this case, as it does have far-reaching implications on our religious liberties.
I have been upstairs digging, and have found a whole bunch of things I had forgotton I owned! Mostly Christmas stuff.......not room enough to put it all out in this house, though. :(
I am going to say good night now. Good night now! ;)
I would add to the discussion(s) in here today, but I don't htink I can remember them all. ::)

Ya'll were wired today, or something. My head is spinning.
It is late, adn I still have to do my lesson plan for the class at the Senior Citizen Center tomorrow (we are looking at Christmas traditions in different countries), so I reckon I had better get going.

In the Bleak Midwinter (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/christmas/in-the-bleak-midwinter.mid)
(Click to hear music)
"She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:7-8
Words: Christina Rossetti, 1872; she wrote these words in response to a request from the magazine Scribner's Monthly for a Christmas poem
Music: "Cranham," Gustav T. Holst, 1906
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Our God, heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Enough for Him, Whom cherubim, worship night and day,
Breastful of milk, and a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, Whom angels fall before,
The ox and ass and camel which adore.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
