Morning Devotional...

When Christmas is Over

The presents are opened, the "mess" is cleaned up (well, mostly anyway), people have gone back to work and the routines are being re-established.  Christmas is now regulated to the "memory" portion of our brain, and we are beginning to focus on the New Year.  A new beginning.

BUT, it is because of Christmas that we can have a new beginning.

As Christians, we share a unique position of being able to celebrate Christmas every day.  HIS birth, the one in the manger, made it possible for our new birth.  Today, remember the day you accepted the second birth.  What changed in your life?  What was made new?

Thanks for that Karma.  That song is special to me.  My second oldest, Abe, sang it one time when we went to minister at a nursing home in Salem, Oregon.  He sang it for the patients, and he sang it very meaningfully.  What a help he was then to that ministry!  It was the first time I had heard it, and I've been singing it to myself evere since.

Good morning.  Bright and sunny in sunny Indiana.  And it is suppose to get into the 50's today!  Whoo-eee!  The snow that fell on Christmas Day is long gone.  What snow is left has been on the ground nearly all of December.  Almost white ice!  West of my house is a big lake...just hope that big lake doesn't end up in my little basement!

Oh, yes!  Green Tomato Pie, they say, tastes like Mincemeat Pie.  I don't know...don't remember of eating Mincemeat Pie.  But Green Tomato Pie has two cups of ground up green tomatoes...lots of spices...cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cloves...flour and a cup and a half of sugar...I used Splenda and it tasted just fine!  It is a two crust pie.  With all the spices, it isn't green and if it weren't for the tomato seeds you would never know it had green tomatoes in it.  And with all that sugar, it is very sweet!!!  My grandmother made them because her mother and grandmother made them...so it is a family tradition!

Happy traveling to you travelers...and make it a safe travel.

Not much going on here today except my second to last chiropractor appointment.  The stretching exercises are doing great!

I had a wonderful party with my brother and his family yesterday even though I was dizzy all day.  It was very upsetting because they had driven 2 hours to get together.  After that I went to the emergency because this has been happening a few times this month.  After spending the night in the emergency and going through tests like blood work, blood pressure and urine sample the doctor just said he couldn't see anything.  In fact, he said my blood pressure goes down as I relax so he was recommending that I should not be taking B.P. medicine.  My doctor just says "Your blood pressure is up so you had better increase your dose!"   The doctor in emerg thinks I have "white coat syndrome".   But in any case, I probably am anxious and stressed out because I am retiring in 3 days!

Please pray for me that God will "CALM ME DOWN WITH HIS LOVE"

Thank you and God bless.

Love Ruthie ;)

Good Morning Thanks Karma for your input this morning.

Not a lot going on here today, I have that CT scan this afternoon after I finish at Versal's house. They aren't' going to find anything except that I may or may not have a brain. ;D

Supposed to get pretty rough weather with wind and rain today. So I am glad that Jane has chosen another route to take, I do pray that you don't run in to a bad case of snow by going  the Yreka way.

Got to go eat now, so

Marilyn, the doctor is the emergency suggested I have a CT scan, but they didn't do it today.   So if I find that I still have dizziness, I will tell my doctor that I want a CT scan.

Hi everyone.

Chris, what a beautiful color of red in your beautiful illustration.

Ruthie, sorry to hear that you are having repeating problems.  I am excited for you that you are retiring in just three days.  It is nice to be out from under the stress of a job and the watching of the clock.  I feel the key to a happy retirement is to keep busy and it sounds like you are the type of person who keep very busy.  Your days just don't have to get underway as early and you can stop when you want for the day.  My wife says I am too regimented but I find that gives me the structure I need.

Papa John, the fixing of the plate and then visiting with your ailing friend was such a nice thing to do.  I am sure Cornelia must be pretty exhausted from all that work.

Welcome Jonathan.

Marilyn, I will just bet you that they do find a brain when they scan.  :)  Don't wash away in all that rain.  We are suppose to get up to about 60 today with lovely sunshine.  I love living in the South.

Karmat, thanks for the devotional thought today.  I don't think I have ever heard the song you posted or if I have I have forgotten it.

Pat, hope you are feeling better today and the snow has melted up your way.  Did you get your deck finished before the bad weather?

I guess both Jane and Janet are in a travel mode for the next few days.  Hope they have a wonderful time on their trips.

Etta Sue, glad the snow is melting up your way.  I have never eaten green tomato pie.  Thanks for telling us what is in it.

My friend, Rod, came over after coffee this morning and worked on my computer.  Between us we finally got the TV Card reinstalled on my computer and functioning correctly.  It has not been working the last 3 or 4 weeks and I couldn't figure out how to reinstall the software.  We finally accidently got it installed.  He also made a few changes in the BIOS to see if it will prevent my desktop from spontaneously rebooting, which it does without prompting.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Hello everyone!  I had a wonderful Christmas with my large family.  Now I am getting ready to drive back home.

Thanks for your inspirational words, Karma.  I am reminded that Christmas is not just one day.  As Charles Dickens wrote, "I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year."

I hope to be able to take some photos this week. I may try to take some shots inside.  It is dull and dreary here in NY State.  We really don't have too much snow on the ground at the moment.

I hope that everyone had a blessed Christmas. I can't believe that the new year is almost here! I know that 2005 was a very difficult year for many people.  I pray that the new year will be filled with God's grace for all.

Yes, a great big :welcome: to you Jonathan!   We have a nice little community here.  This is sort of like our "donut shop" where we stop in and say "Hi" and share our plans for the day.

Great to see you, Kathy.  Drive safely home today.

Larry, the deck isn't completed yet but will be in the spring.  The floor of the deck is done though and so that part is fine.

Wonderful to see you all here today.  I must phone you again Ruthie.

EDIT:  Just did.  Glad you're feeling a wee bit better.

Thank you Chris for that true and wonderful word about Doctor Jesus.  I know He is the great Physician and can do what doctors cannot or even know about!

Thank you Larry for your word of encouragement.  I know that when I finally retire and get into a schedule I will be better off.  I guess it's just facing the unknown that brings some anxiety.  But again God's Word says "Be anxious for nothing"  So I have to tell myself that I need not be anxious about anything!  I think some people are prone to be nervous and anxious more than others.  Because I am on my own, like a lot of other single people, we  tend to over think and worry more.   But I know that God is right beside me, behind me and in front of me!   Praise His Holy Name.

Pat, sorry you had a scary trip back from Ian's place on Christmas. But God kept you safe in the Palm of His Hand!   We serve a Mighty God.

Well because my big Christmas party is not until Friday, I have to go and get a few more gifts.   I hope they will all be 1/2 price now.  ha ha.

Love Ruthie

Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me'.
Matthew 16:24

Words - Mary B.C. Slade, 1826-1882
Music - Asa B. Everett, 1871

Sweetly, Lord, have we heard Thee calling,
Come, follow Me!
And we see where Thy footprints falling
Lead us to Thee.

Refrain
Footprints of Jesus,
That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus
Where'er they go.

Though they lead o'er the cold, dark mountains,
Seeking His sheep;
Or along by Siloam's fountains,
Helping the weak.

Refrain

If they lead through the temple holy,
Preaching the Word;
Or in homes of the poor and lowly,
Serving the Lord.

Refrain

Then at last, when on high he sees us
Our journey done,
We will rest where the steps of Jesus
end at his throne.

Refrain

I got a CD from my brother Ken who lives in Wellington, Ontario. That is near Belleville, Ontario.   The CD is by a man named Rob Rapino.  He is not only a hairdresser, but writes some of his own songs.  Such beautiful songs on this CD:  We Worship You; Beatiful; Song of Love; Written in Red; Above All; I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb; I am Not Ashamed; and Except for Grace.   I'm sure you know some of these songs.    Written in Red; Above All; I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb.  They are so beautiful! Maybe if Pat has the music to those songs, we can talk her into posting here.

Hope you're having a wonderful, restful evening.

Love Ruthie

Master, Saviour, Jesus

Good Evening all y-all. Well I made it through the brain scan just fine after they finally was able to find a vein to put the IV in. They had to go get a nurs out of the ER to come in and find the vein, after that it was a breeze and yes I do have a brain. My Dr. should have the results when I go in Thursday  for my appointment.

Sot hat's all I have to talk about for tonight. I am going to relax and maybe crochet a bit or do something ont he computer.

I wonder how far Jane as made it into California or if she is already in sacramento.?

Karma has "come down" with some kind of bug or another; not sure if it's the stomach bug that her nephew had on Christmas or truly the flu, but she's having a pretty rough evening :(

I hope all of you have a good night; maybe I'll get in here tomorrow but not sure.

God bless you and rain His favor upon you...

Lots of rain there are flood warnings for someof the rivers, but none that are real close to me. The cows and horses are  having difficulty finding higher ground. They may have to truck some out to other places.

Happy and I are sitting here enjoying a can of peanuts. Bebe is asleep on the couch.

Hi, all.  We're really having lots of rain and more to come.  We're supposed to have high winds tonight too.  Some of the rivers will crest above flood level tomorrow.  That means, as Marilyn said for her area, that ranchers will be getting their cattle up on higher ground.

Marilyn, Jane left around 8:30 am, and said she'd be getting there tonight.  I wouldn't want to drive in the dark if I could help it, but evidently she is ok with it.  She knows that area pretty well.

Oh, poor Karma.  I'm so sorry she's feeling bad.

Ruthie, I've heard all those songs except Written In Red.  They are really beautiful.

All this rain really makes me lazy.  One of the books I'd ordered came today, Up Where You Belong by Tommy Tenny, so I'll retire early tonight and read some and listen to the rain.  I can't hear it as well as I'd like, but I have a good imagintation, so I pretend I can hear it on a tin roof. haha

Pat, I've always loved to sing that song, Something About That Name.  Isn't that true?  Just saying His Name can change the atmosphere of a situation.  Just a whispered, "Jesus".

Night all,  Nita

I'll be back on early tomorrow hopefully.
