Morning Devotional...

Trials and Pain:
Underneath Are the Everlasting Arms

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, "Destroy!"
Deuteronomy 33:27

Surely Bible-reading Christians should be the last persons on earth to give way to hysteria. They are redeemed from their past offenses, kept in their present circumstances by the power of an all-powerful God, and their future is safe in His hands. God has promised to support them in the flood, protect them in the fire, feed them in famine, shield them against their enemies, hide them in His safe chambers until the indignation is past and receive them at last into eternal tabernacles.

If we are called upon to suffer, we may be perfectly sure that we shall be rewarded for every pain and blessed for every tear. Underneath will be the Everlasting Arms and within will be the deep assurance that all is well with our souls. Nothing can separate us from the love of God-not death, nor life, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature.

This is a big old world, and it is full of the habitations of darkness, but nowhere in its vast expanse is there one thing of which a real Christian need be afraid. Surely a fear-ridden Christian has never examined his or her defenses.
Dr. Tozer in...This World: Playground or Battleground? pp. 7-8

"Lord, I'll go today in the power of these awesome promises. I'll rest in these strong assurances. I'll face this 'big old world' and its 'habitations of darkness' in complete peace as I trust You completely today. Amen."

We Have An Anchor  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/we-have-an-anchor.mid)
(Click to hear music)

"An anchor for the soul, firm and secure." Hebrews 6:19

Words: Priscilla J. Owens, 1882.

Music: William J. Kirkpatrick

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

Refrain

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.

It is safely moored, 'twill the storm withstand,
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables, passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy that blast, thro' strength divine.

Refrain

It will surely hold in the Straits of Fear—
When the breakers have told that the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.

Refrain

It will firmly hold in the Floods of Death—-
When the waters cold chill our latest breath,
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the Veil.

Refrain

When our eyes behold through the gath'ring night
The city of gold, our harbor bright,
We shall anchor fast by the heav'nly shore,
With the storms all past forevermore.

Refrain

Hey there, everybody!  How in the world are you?

I am posting from the lovely seaside town of San Carlos, Mexico!  I just posted, but not sure if it was on the right day ore what......I have lost track, but I think today is Thursday, so maybe this is the beginning of Friday's posts (?)  Anyway.............I wanted to pop in and say hello while I have access to the internet.  And it is free here in this hotel, how neat is that? ;) :)

If you are interested, you can go back and read the post I wrote a few minutes ago.  I am really tired as I didn't sleep much at all last night, so think I will head upstairs to bed. Blessings to each of you, along with my love!

Hello, Janet!  Good to see ya posting and having a good time.

Good morning to all the rest of you, too.

Travis had a much better night last night, but Kristi seems to have contracted the sniffles... :(

I hope all of you have a good day!

Good Morning for the wet  North Coast. It has been raining all night and it is still dark outside.  Nothing new here and not much to say.

Good to see you here this morning Janet and Chris, Nards, Smokey and Pat.

And besides the rain Marilyn mentioned, there's lots of strong wind.  Hope we don't lose power.  So far so good!  Well, we celebrated our 51st anniversary last evening at a very, very nice restaurant a bit north of here near Trinidad.  Lamb chops with lingonberry sauce, sweet potatoe, wonderful salad, all followed by pumpkin cheesecake!  I better quit eating for a month or two!

Hi everyone.

It is sunny here today but it is only 36 degrees this morning.  They have the Peach Bowl parade downtown around noon or so today.  Sure glad I don't plan on attending as don't know how a person would keep warm.  They have another parade tomorrow and three big football games starting today through Sunday and a number of concerts.  Atlanta is sure a place not to be this weekend.  They also have what is called Underground Atlanta and they have the Peach Ball drop to welcome in the new year.

Al, congrats on 51 years.  You have a few ahead of Pat and I as we will be only 44 years next July.  I don't think I have ever eaten Ligonberrys in my life.

Janet, so pleasant to see you checking in from Mexico.  The world is indeed skrinking, at least in terms of communication.  Hope you are rested today so that you can throughly enjoy your vacation.

Marilyn, it sounds like you haven't needed your oil lamp yet but it is a good thing to have handy.  We have a couple of those oil lamps but have never tried to use them.  After the big ice strom about 3 or 4 years ago I bought a couple of bottles of oil to have on hand as at the time we needed it none was available.

Chris, I certainly agree with you on Tozer and his writing.  Always inspiring and challenging.

Karmat and Nards, glad that you are feeling better Karmat but sorry that Travis is under the weather.

Pat, not good news with you coming down with the flu again.  You don't seem to be able to get rid of that bug.  Your immune system must be weakened.  Hope it isn't long lasting.

Welcome Vernon to CP.  Also Smokeyth, good to see you posting.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like real progress on your foot bone and another month will go by quickly.

Etta Sue, glad to see that your chiropractor treatments are ending.  Sometimes it seems they go on forever.

Am feeling very tired today so probably won't accomplish much.  I do have someone coming to look at our Buick.  We have decided we really can't justify having it in terms of the few times we drive it.  I usually don't drive it more than once every week or 10 and then that is just to be sure the battery stays charged.  We could eliminate the insurance, licensing and taxes costs associated with it if we didn't have it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

By the way - Pat - thanks for that hymn.  It's one we used to have in the Intervarsity Hymbook, which we used in Intervarsity meetings in college, then, later, in a church to which we belonged.  That's a favorite hymn of mine.

    It is eight degrees here today ,no snow as of yet. My husband don't like this. He thinks its time to get out the skidoo (LOL)

Hi Everyone!

Hi Melody!  Great to see you in here.  I love that hymn as well.  You just tell your husband that there are going to be lots of days for the skidoo!  :lol:

So nice to read all your posts.  I'm not going to comment on them all but just to say it's wonderful to read them.

Al, you sure kept that anniversary private.  We could have had a party in here!

Congratulations to you Al.  Cornelia and I will celebrate our 57th if we make it to July 1st.

Janet, enjoy your Mexican vacation.

Marilyn and Al, I have been thinking of you with all that rain in northern California.  I hope you don't get flooded out.

I couldn't sleep this morning and got up around 4:00 which means that by this afternoon I will be ready for a long nap.

Pat, tomorrow night we will stay at home and go to bed about the normal time and maybe wake up around midnight or may not.  But when we get up in the morning it will be NEW YEAR'S DAY.

I Jn 2:15-17
15   Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16   For everything in the world-- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-- comes not from the Father but from the world.
17   The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.  (NIV)

DOES JESUS CARE? (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/doesjesuscare.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
Too deeply for mirth or song,
As the burdens press, and the cares distress
And the way grows weary and long?

Refrain
Oh yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

Does Jesus care when my way is dark
With a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades into deep night shades,
Does He care enough to be near?

Refrain

Does Jesus care when I've tried and failed
To resist some temptation strong;
When for my deep grief there is no relief,
Though my tears flow all the night long?

Refrain

Does Jesus care when I've said "goodbye"
To the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks,
Is it aught to Him? Does He see?

Refrain

I think Both Al and I are high enough that we don't have to worry about being flooded out.  Although if the Mad River goes over the other side I may not be able to get to Versals' this afternoon.

About tomorrow night, it is just another night around my house. I will go to bed at the usual time and with all the noise and Happy not liking the noise I will be awaken at midnight to calm the dog has he quivers in my arms. Pat can you picture a dog the size of Geordie cuddling as close as is possible and being so scared.

Last year he jumped off the bed and tried to get under it. It is only a few inches off the floor So I coaxed him on the bed and just snuggled with him petting him and talking to him to soothe him. Every time another one went off he shook more.
It doesn't seem to bother Bebe except that she is jealous of Happy getting all the attention.

Awww... Marilyn, that's so cute to think about.   Geordie is just the opposite.  He never gets scared but wants to chase away the noise.  He loves to go outside in thunder and lightening storms and he leaps high in the air trying to bark at the lightening, etc.  HAHAHA

Here's something a very dear friend, Ria,  just sent to me...

What a gloomy day!  Dark and dismal.  Not planning on going anywhere so I will just veg inside.

The chiropractor office gave me print outs of the exercises to do.  I am to do them daily.  I also got a back brace to wear 3 times a week for a half hour at a time while standing.  That is my problem...just standing..so we will see.  AND I was told to come back in one month and they wouldn't turn it into my insurance and would only be charged $65 for the visit!  Wait a minute...if I am worse in a month, then the exercises aren't doing the job and I need more work.  If I am better, why would I spend $65 so I can be told I am better and come back in another month.  So I can already see this appointment will be cancelled.  But I plan to do the exercises right after my Bible reading.

Going to make a little tiny scrapbool for Ivalou with all her kids pictures in it.  She will be surprised!!!

Pat, we will be doing about what Papa John described tomorrow night.  I hope to be asleep at midnight.  It has been several years since we were not at home on New Year's Eve.  Where we lived before moving here our church group had a get together and played games and saw in the new year.  I prefer to be safely off the roads.

Pat, have you heard from Judy Mc recently?  I saw the photo of their 47th wedding anniversary on SeniorNet and it reminded me it has been some days since she posted here.  Hope she is OK.

Hi y'all.  We're having rain and wind here on the Oregon coast too.  It howled most of the night, but not much damage today.  I saw a cedar fence section that was down when I went to town earlier.  Some small branches in the street, and some standing water in some low areas of the highway.  Probably high tide did it, along with all the rain.

My littlest dog, Rocko, was really scared last night.  He usually barks at anything he thinks a threat, but this wind had him shivering in my lap.  Both dogs are the same age, but Tyson wasn't afraid of it at all.  Just different temperaments.   I dread New Year's midnight.  I know they'll both be pretty nervous.  I'll stay home, same as usual, and go to bed when I'm sleepy. lol  I agree, Larry, it's good to be off the roads that night.

I just cooked a pot of beans and made cornbread, so am ready for lunch.  Come on over if you want beans. :)   I asked my daughter to pick up some milk for me when she goes to town.  Later I can have milk and cornbread for dessert.

Welcome, Melody. :)

Congratulations Al and Marbeth.  I guess you're just getting to know each other, huh?

I just came  back from town, and now there's flooding everywhere.  I feel for the people who's houses are in danger.  Some streets are closed, some stores flooded.  I've been listening to the news and roads are blocked all over in Oregon.  I guess there was a big mud slide around Ashland and I-5 is closed to north and south bound traffic.

I live up on a hill, so we are ok here.  My heat is oil, but the fan is powered by electric, so if electricity goes out, I'm in the cold.  I don't think that will happen.  I hope that doesn't happen.

Right now the critters and I are all snug as a bug in a rug. :)

My daughter had said she'd like me to go with her to Memphis - then it turned into the gambling casino at Tunica, MS - now it's a nice upscale restaurant here in town, thank goodness.  I'm thankful we only have to travel a few miles and will be VERY careful as we go home that evening.

Happy New Year to all!  I am praying that 2006 will be healthy and happy for all of us!

Larry - thank you for asking for me.  Its nice to be missed.  You are right - it HAS been awhile since I've posted here.  Just everyday business has kept me away.

Perhaps I need to make a new year resolution.....to be more active on C.P.

What about you?

Pat - would you have the music for: "BLESS BE THE TIE THAT BINDS".

Wow!  I finally finished reading (listening) to three days posting from all you busy folks.

Rain here also....One day the sun will shine again.  I have the Gaither Group on the TV in the other room and that is making the evening a tad brighter.

Have been busy since Christmas.  It was somewhat sad with a family death.  Ralph's family have been coming over to visit them the past few days and that has helped him a bit.  We went to church Christmas morning and had a nice dinner at home that evening.  Boxing Day both Amanda & Ralph had to work and I braved the crowds and took the bus into Victoria for a few hours of mad shopping.  Needed a few things and the prices were worth the struggle with great crowds of people.  Was certainly glad to get home again.

Misty has decided she wants to be an indoor cat on a regular basis, so take her into my place for longer periods of time now.  Have introduced her to the word NO and the joy of being squirted with water if not heeded.  Ah me! ::)

Envy Janet on her holiday.  But then, don't we all?

Congratulations Al & Marbeth.

I like that little pillow Marilyn.  Love the music and photo's Chris & Margit.

Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year's Day.  I stay home on New Year's Eve.  Nice place to be!

Pleasant Evening and God Bless.

BLEST BE THE TIE (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/blessTie.mpga)
(Click to hear music)

Author:  John Fawcett, 1740-1817
Musician:  Hans G. Nageli, 1773-1836
Arr. By Lowell Mason, 1792-1872

And the multitude of them that believed
were of one heart and of one soul:
neither said any of them that ought of the things
which he possessed was his own;
but they had all things common.
Acts 4:32

Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like that to that above.

Before our Father's throne
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one
Our comforts and our cares.

We share each other's woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

This glorious hope revives
Our courage by the way;
While each in expectation lives,
And longs to see the day.

From sorrow, toil and pain,
And sin, we shall be free,
And perfect love and friendship reign
Through all eternity.

I got the results today from the tests with the Oxymeter that I had to sleep with on my finger last week. The Respiratoy Therapist has determined by the readings on the Oxymeter that I  probably have Sleep Apnea. She wrote a report and faxed it to my doctor so I should be hearing from her (the Dr.) sometime next week to make arrangements for me to go to the sleep lab. Thank you Jesus that  something is going to be done about my sleeping problem. All I really want is a full night of good restful sleep instead of waking up at 1 am unable to go back to sleep.
