Morning Devotional...

It is appointed unto men once to die.
Hebrews 9:27

An 80-year-old man knew it would happen, but, wishing not to inconvenience anyone, he assured his family he would drive himself to the funeral home.

He did and was found reclining, but dead, in his car safely parked at the funeral home.

Hopefully, he had prepared for the balance of his journey into the presence of God. Our verse concludes by saying there is "after death the judgment."

Are you ready to meet God, if you were called on to do so today?
--Arnot McIntee

Where will you spend eternity?
This question comes to you and me.
Tell me, what shall your answer be?
Where will you spend eternity?

Ruth, have a wonderful day!

I am just in from the hospital. Had 2 back to back emergencies today at work - one finished at 11 a.m., and the other call came in at 11:03 a.m.! Then, a dear young friend of mine (on her 25th birthday today) had to have emergency appendectomy. So, I had to drop all and head for the hospital since she has no family here in Nashville.

Now, the dogs got away from me - the youngest one has returned but not the oldest, and my son just left for Virginia today.

Other than that, I suppose I had a run-of-the-mill day today. <wry grin>

Since to me, it's still Friday night, y'all have a good day tomorrow. I'll be at the hospital pretty early, then meeting an earlier engagement at 9:30, then on to work at noon to meet a former boss (a person who really helped me pray for a position when mine was eliminated - so, this one is to help out a friend aqnd prayer partner who's having difficulty with a total of 55 files that must be in her boss's hands in England on Monday at 6 a.m., London time).

So, all told, I probably will not be on line again until late tomorrow.

I love and appreciate each of you - the new arrivals and also our old friends, including Iain. Brother, we love you and have greatly missed you. Have been praying for you and for your health while you have been away.

Papa John, will be praying for your situation, as well. We will be in different hospitals, but I'll be thinking of you and the family.

Happy Birthday Ruthie!

Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you Ruth Ann.

I had best head for slumber myself.  I will have a long day tomorrow.  The tentative plans are to tidy the house and get the tree up and decorated.  I also have to work tomorrow evening

Night all!

Well, our church has a men's prayer breakfast at 7AM this morning, so I'll have to be outa here shortly.  Sure is good to have you back Ruth Ann, but you seem to have landed directly on the buz saw! (of course that's not unusual for you).  Marilyn - shame on you for saying I talk long.  You're welcome to be there to listen in on the conversation, though, but you'll have to be quiet and listen, 'cause I got a lot to say!  Actually, I think all of us will be listening to our Lord.

Pat ~ When I clicked on the December Challenge up above it took me to November's Challenge.  I thought to myself, why bother you to fix it so I fixed it for you.   8)

Iain ~ What a treat to read your post.  You are missed.  Please, even if you can't come into CP every day, try to post once in a while....so we won't forget you.

Marilyn ~ I have found that sometimes you can have too much 'stuff' on your computer and then it gets confused as to what it is suppose to do.  My ISP provides Spam Detector, I use Norton Anti-virus detector and I have Ad-Aware 6, Personal.  I do think I need to get a Pop Up Stopper.  The one for IE keeps changing on me.  I remove all the allowed sites and still get Pop-ups.  I check and have to remove all the allowed again.  I tried Spybot but removed it because IT messed my computer up.  I use MSN IM and I haven't noticed any Pop-ups from it.  How can you use AOL browser if you don't have AOL now?  Just wondering.

Ruth Ann ~ Looks like another busy day for you.  When you come home and go back in the work field, you really go back into the work field with all fours!!

Al ~ Enjoy your Men's Prayer Breakfast.  Don't talk too much!!!  ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUTH!

Bright and sunny today.  Above freezing but barely.  Tonight I am taking three other ladies to the Victorian Dinner at church.  A lovely night for ladies to feel like a Queen.  I am taking my camera and hope to get some good pictures!!!

Happy birthday Ruth I hope you have a wonderful day and that you are not too embarassed with today's posts. When it happened to me I had a cyber blush for 24 hours!!

Al - Dear brother, I would gladly sit at your feet and learn from you.

I have just found out that a All Black Christian Choir from a church in Alabama is coming over to our Island in January to sing at a number of services. Their Pastor the Rev Dochary Ingram will also be preaching to us.

Apparently this is a first for such a choir.

Why don't the rest of you join up with them and we could spend some time in the Stornoway Coffee Shop!

LOL

Morning!  This new monthly challenge should be fun.  I love looking at all the Christmas lights and kids opening presants.  I sure hope everyone gets involved with this challenge.

I have a photo shoot and Chandraya has dance today.

The kids also want to put up the Christmas tree, so that should pretty much keep my day busy.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

It's very windy here in Guelph today.  Made me think of this hymn...

From Every Stormy Wind (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/retreat.mpga)
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Hugh Stowell, 1799-1865
Musician:  Thomas Hastings, 1784-1872

And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with
thee from above the mercy seat, from between
the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony,
of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
Exodus 25:22

From every stormy wind that blows,
From every swelling tide of woes,
There is a calm, a sure retreat;
'Tis found beneath the mercy seat.

There is a place where Jesus sheds
The oil of gladness on our heads;
A place than all besides more sweet;
It is the blood bought mercy seat.

There is a scene where spirits blend,
Where friend holds fellowship with friend;
Though sundered far, by faith they meet
Around one common mercy seat.

There, there, on eagles' wings we soar,
And time and sense seem all no more;
And heaven comes down, our souls to greet,
And glory crowns the mercy seat.

Oh, let my hand forget her skill,
My tongue be silent, cold, and still,
This bounding heart forget to beat,
If I forget the mercy seat!

Pat,

I'm not sure when in January they are coming. What amazed me was the fact that there are still 'segregated' congegations!

Did you hear from your friends in Ireland that Rev.Dr. Iain Paisley may be the new First Minister of the Irish Assembly? He would then need to sit down alongside the likes of Gerry Adams and Co!!

I'm going to try and stop bye as often as I can from now on. I am missing your company though I still do not feel as though I have much to contribute.

I hope and pray that you will all enjoy your God this coming Lord's Day and that those who are preaching may be blessed with an unction from Heaven itself. Even so, come Lord Jesus.

LOL

Iain, I heard that about Mr. Paisley.  I saw a photo of him and his son.  My goodness, he's deteriorated health-wise I think.  He's been a wonderful man down through the years and as far as peace is concerned in the Emerald Isle, I'm not sure that we'll see it this side of heaven.

I saw a headline something like "It's now or never".  I must ask Mr. McClelland here in Toronto and see what it's all about.  I read that Mr. Paisley can no longer fly and has to attend the meetings in London by going by ferry.

Iain, your presense here is so important.  We really need you.  I'm happy to know that you're stopping by more often.  I ALWAYS like to see what you put in--even if it's what you're having for supper!  LOL

Good morning!!  I have a full weekend ahead of me.  Today I have been invited to a Christmas Luncheon for the ladies of a church near here. Then I will come home and change clothes and go to spend the evening and night with some friends and be ready to travel to Springfield/Eugene in the morning.  We will attend church there in the morning and then be guests of the District Superintendent of Open Bible Standard Churches for the "Madrigal" ... a holiday gala dinner theater put on by the Bible School Students.  His daughter usually produces and directs this each year and I understand it is really spectacular.  Should be a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to being with such good friends.  We don't get together too often any more, since our local church closed, so whenever we do it is special.  We, three of us who were on the board, sing at two nursing homes once a month so that is good for keeping us in touch.

MARILYN~If you are using AOL's browser, that is IE.  May be a trimmed down version but still IE.

I still haven't heard anything from my daughter in Sacramento.  She already knew that I couldn't go anywhere until after Sunday (because of these events I am attending) but now I have to let her know I won't be able to leave until after next Friday, the 10th, because I have an appointment at the hospital.

I finally got in touch with my doctor's office about that message last week.  Seems after he got the mamogram and report he recommended a biopsy.  His nurse scheduled that for this past Tuesday, but was unable to get hold of me so I didn't know about it ... and missed it!  Anyway, after I called again yesterday and they went through the papers, they rescheduled me for Friday.   :-\

Pat, thanks for the hymn ... This evening I will be helping my singing friends learn "'Til The Storm Passes By"  ... We are going to have a songfest as we await our trip to Eugene tomorrow!  I love it!

IAIN~It is so good to see you stopping by again!  Please do it often, and enjoy that choir from Alabama.  Yes, there is still a lot of segration in churches especially in the south.  I think it is because the manner of worship is different and culturally unique.  When congregations integrate, they tend to lose that uniqueness.  We are all God's children though and I love to worship.

Good Morning> I am so late in getting here. Pat thanks for the devotional, Iain I am so glad that you willb e posting more often  have really missed you.

Al yes I sid that.

Jane I thought AOL was Netscape.

Etta Sue I have the cable but instead of using E I have aOL Broadband for only $4.95 per month and have all the same stuff I had before and noting is changed except it is so much faster. especially after cleaning out my computer and fixing the errors that were in the files. I am still getting the message that I need to reinstall Active X.

Larry would Active X be in my CD's that came with  Microssoft XP Home Edition. Or some of the other cd's that came with my computer? If so which one do  look for? Will it say on the CD that it has Active X on it?

I prepared Pancakes for Fay this morning and then I baked her a Walnut Pie. I had some of the ingredients and she had some. I left it cooling on a rack and came home to do some of my home chores that needed doing.

I have finished decorating my tree and now it will be almost time to go back to work to prepare Fay's lunch (dinner) Supper is the evening meal where I come from, dinner is the noon meal.

December 4

Trials and Pain: Good In Thy Sight

Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he
said, "It is the Lord. Let Him do what seems good to Him."
--1 Samuel 3:18

A determination to know what cannot be known always works harm to
the Christian heart.

Ignorance in matters on our human level is never to be excused if
there has been opportunity to correct it. But there are matters
which are obviously "too high for us." These we should meet in
trusting faith and say as Jesus said, "Even so, Father: for so it
seemed good in thy sight."...

Human curiosity and pride often combine to drive us to try to
understand acts of God which are plainly outside the field of
human understanding. We dislike to admit that we do not know what
is going on, so we torture our minds trying to fathom the
mysterious ways of the Omniscient One. It's hard to conceive of a
more fruitless task....

Under such circumstances the Christian thing to do is to say,
"That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear
when thou judgest.... Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in
thy sight." A blind confidence which trusts without seeing is far
dearer to God than any fancied knowledge that can explain
everything....

To the adoring heart, the best and most satisfying explanation
for anything always will be, "It seemed good in thy sight."
The Next Chapter After the Last, pp. 54-55

"Lord, help me today, no matter what difficult circumstances I
may face, to pray with Jesus, 'for so it seemed good in Thy
sight,' and with Eli, 'It is the Lord. Let Him do what seems
good to Him.' Amen."

Hi everyone.  I am watching the Virginia Tech and Miami football game on TV.  This game determines the conference championship.

We had a really nice surprise right around lunch time.  My new friend called and asked if Pat would like to have a 17" monitor that was excess to his needs.  He even loaded it in his van and brought it over and carried it into the house and set it up for her.  I tried to pay him for it but he wouldn't take anything.  She was very excited to have the larger screen as has been using her old 15 inch monitor since the large one she had before failed.

Marilyn, I really don't know the answer to your ActiveX question.  However, I did a Google search and found the following information:

Active X -- A loosely defined set of technologies developed by Microsoft for sharing information among different applications. ActiveX is an outgrowth of two other Microsoft technologies called OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) and COM (Component Object Model). As a moniker, ActiveX can be very confusing because it applies to a whole set of COM-based technologies. Most people, however, think only of ActiveX controls, which represent a specific way of implementing ActiveX technologies.

I noticed you can download ActiveX Control from the Download.com website.  Sorry I don't have more information.  However, you could check the Microsoft website to see if it isn't available to download.

Iain, very nice to see you posting and happy to read that you hope to post more often.

Happy Birthday Ruth.

Etta Sue, enjoy your Victorian Dinner tonight.  Will they have the fancy table decorations again.

Jane, I will certainly be thinking of you and praying for you next Friday.  The unknown is always a bit scarey but better to know than to wonder.  Enjoy your trip this weekend, sounds great.

I am feeling so sleepy I think I need to take a nap.  We have our Sunday School class Christmas party this evening.  We attended last year and it was very nice.

I will try to get back and post again later this evening.

Well, had a pretty lazy day today, although the internet was down for most of the day, just came back on tonight.  We had my interpreter and his new bride over tonight for Italian cooking, Lasagna, Chicken Parmigian, Greek Salad (w/Feta Cheese), and Garlic Bread.  Then we watched the movie Elf with Will Farrell.  Enjoyed listening to it in Russian, since I had seen it already in English twice.  I was able to follow it because I knew what was happening already.

We're counting down days...  Only one week left, then we are flying home to the states for a vacation.  My wife let me buy my Christmas present tonight, and I am a happy happy camper.  I'm moving up in the photography world.  I just ordered the new Pentax *ist-DS with 18-55mm kit lens (moving up to the DSLR crowd).  Also ordered a 1gb SD card to go with it.  Already have batteries.  And I already have some old Pentax lenses from 18 years ago or so, and my Mom has promised to give me my Dad's old Pentax stuff (including a 500mm mirror lens).  Now just to wait till we get home, then to open up the new toy and take more pictures...  Now to figure out what to do with the old Minolta 7i.

WOOHOOO

Blessings and gnite all.

Hi not much going on here I went to watch the movie "Lordof the Rings" but kept on dozing off so I got up and went to my bed and turned on the radio and took me a much needed nap,I usually do that in my recliner but this new electric one doesn't go backas far and the footrest is rather short for my legs.I have yet to call around and see if anyone can come get me for church tommorow if I can't I guess it is another Sunday of staying home 3rd week in a row,I really would like to go if possible but if not thats ok too.Well still no word from my mom so guess I'll have to wait untill she gets back, she must not have time to go to find a computer to use for sending me an email.I'd call her if I had time on my calling card, knew when to do it and where to call as I have a # just do not know when a good time to reach her is plus calling internationally uses up calling card quicker as it doubles the minutes.Ok I am going to watch some Christmas shows now 'Jack Frost" is on and then Rudolph and 2 more.I love all theses shows so  I'll have to watch my movies on Sun and mon.Take care all and bye,Beth

I'd love to be in that coffee shop, Iain!  But in January?  That's going to be one very cold place!  I don't think I'd describe the churches as "segregated" - just a self-imposed "segregation" due to unique music and worship practices.

Though I cannot tell Thee how;

Blest, divine, eternal Spirit,

Just back from our Christmas Party with our Sunday School class.  It was a potluck but we all paid $5 each to pay for the meat tray, paper products, etc.  There were 20 there and we had a delightful time of socializing and eating.  Two of the ladys had done a nice job of decorating.  It was very relaxed and enjoyable.

A friend sent us an e-mail with a link to a very nice animated Christmas card and it features some beautiful music by the Ashland University choir.  Here is the link if anyone would enjoy looking at it:  http://198.30.217.62/2001admission/index.html

Going to sign off for tonight as am tired.

Marilyn, I'm so very happy for you.  I know how it feels and it's a good feeling.

Time to lock the door on yet another Saturday.  I'm going to a 55th Anniversary Service of a little church I used to attend north of Toronto tomorrow.  Janice and Phil will be doing the driving but it will be an early start and I'm looking forward to seeing old friends.  Jack and I attended their 50th Anniversary together.   :'(

So, here's a link to tomorrow's New Every Morning...
