"I would hate my own soul
if I did not find it loving God."

Morning Devotional...

Trials and Pain:
The Necessity of Wounds

Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.... It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.
--Psalm 119:67,71

It is amazing to me! There are people within the ranks of Christianity who have been taught and who believe that Christ will shield His followers from wounds of every kind.

If the truth were known, the saints of God in every age were only effective after they had been wounded. They experienced the humbling wounds that brought contrition, compassion and a yearning for the knowledge of God. I could only wish that more among the followers of Christ knew what some of the early saints meant when they spoke of being wounded by the Holy Spirit....

In every generation, the people who have found God have been those who have come to the end of themselves. Recognizing their hopelessness, they have been ready to throw themselves on the mercy and grace of a forgiving God.
Dr. Tozer in Men Who Met God, pp. 59,62

"Lord, don't let me waste the humbling wounds. Do Your great work within me, and help me to respond properly and learn all You want me to learn through Your working. Amen."

FARTHER ALONG (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/fartheralong.mid)
(Click to hear music)

W. B. Stevens

Tempted and tried we're oft made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long.
While there are others living about us,
Never molested though in the wrong.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

When death has come and taken our loved ones,
It leaves our home so lonely and drear;
Then do we wonder why others prosper,
Living so wicked year after year.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

Faithful till death said our loving Master.
A few more days to labor and wait;
Toils of the road will then seem as nothing
As we sweep through the beautiful gate.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

When we see Jesus coming in glory,
When He comes from His home in the sky;
Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion
We'll understand it all by and by.
Farther along we'll know all about it,
Farther along we'll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We'll understand it all by and by.

After reading the devotional, Pat, I can't help feeling that "Farther Along" is the perfect answer.  Then, and only then, we'll know the reasons for every wound.

I just got off the phone from Gord.  What a nice surprise that was.  I got the long distance ring and assumed it was john.  well we had a really nice conversation.  It has been a long time.

Yes Pat "Farther Along" we will understand all the past.  We have many questions, but, you know I don't think we will be asking them.  Instead we will bask in the presence of our Lord and Saviour.

This has been a long day.  I have the fire to feed, and the dogs to put out.

Good night everyone.

Pat, thanks for the good Word.  I heard Dr. Ravi speak on similar concerns recently.  It is a challenge to serve Him in the middle of pain and "stuff".

For me, for all believers, it is so critical to stay in His Word, as we all know.  To emphasize that conviction to myself, this year I have chosen as my personal "theme" verse, Jeremiah 23:9 (The Message).

My head is reeling,
      my limbs are limp,
   I'm staggering like a drunk,
      seeing double from too much wine—
   And all because of God,
      because of his holy words.

Oh, and Nita, because you mentioned you like trains, I've posted this shot this morning, my time.

In His Grip,
kevin

Good morning all!

I got a call from the dr. this morning.  Good news -- all my lab work was within the normal range.  We are trying a couple of "non-intrusive" things (vitamins, etc.) to see if everything will straighten out on its on, and if in a couple of months it hasn't, we will take other steps.  Bad news -- but no surprise, my cholesterol was high.  So, I am to try diet/exercise over the next few months to bring it down, and if not, more intensive measures.  I can deal with that.

I guess it is back to Weight Watchers!  and to exercise more each week, you know in all of my extra time.  ahahahah

Have a great day.  The snow yesterday has melted, but they are calling for more this weekend.  Maybe Travis can play in it then.  He is wanting to so badly, but with Kristi's continual sniffles I hate to get her out in it with us. :(  By the time nards gets home, it's melted.

Nita, I didn't know faye was your sister!  Or did I and I just forgot?  She has some awesome shots!  Must be a creative gene in your family or something!!!!

Oops I just lost my post hit the wrong key. So will try again.

Thank you Pat for the devotional today, as always Mr. Tozer says just what I need to hear for that day.

Not much new in my plans for today. I do have an appointment to  get my car lubed and an oil change. It has been a year and 4,000 miles and the car is a necessity.

I am pinching the life out of every penny I get my hands on now that I am not working for Versal anymore. I am short by about $500 per month. Yesterday I volunteered to a few hours here an there of respite work to pick up a few extra dollars. I know that my Father will take care of me, and that I will not have to move again. I  wouldn't be able to find a place any less that what I am already paying. Rents are so high.

Samantha I am praying for your family.

Karma did you tell us what  the health problem was other than your cholesterol?

I don't remember, Marilyn.  extreme fatigue, dizziness, etc.  Symtomatic of thyroid problems, but could be a secondary of the cholesterol.  Actually, my cholesterol (I looked it up :) ) is on the high side of borderline, so I guess we are preventing problems right now.

Good morning All.  It is still morning in Indiana.  Getting very close to being afternoon, though.

I got a surprise call from Kitty last evening wanting to know if I wanted to meet her at Pizza King for dinner.  Yep!  He husband wasn't going to be home so we had pizza.  Then I went to her house.  She works with Photo Shop and was having a problem with it.  PSP calls it Selections.  Photo Shop calls it Paths.  It is like it is fruit but one calls it apples and the other is bananas.  Anyway, she did it once but couldn't do it again.  What we discoverd was the instructios didn't say to click on 'Add' for the first step.  But did say to click on 'Subtract' for the second step.  Then when she tried to do it again...it was still clicked on 'Subtract' and wouldn't do what she wanted to do.  It's okay now and she is going full speed ahead!

Laundry day today.  I wish I could hang my clothes out since it is bright and sunny but way too cold for outside drying.  I can't believe you people way UP in Oregon are mowing grass already!!

Good  morning all.  Sun is shining bright here. Yes, some ( i repeat SOME)people have mowed their lawns already.  I need mine to be completely dry because I have to bag it all or the dogs will walk it right back into the house.  I've tried mowing when it's still wet, and it seems I spend more time emptying the bag than mowing.  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.  :)

Karma, I don't think I ever told you that Faye was my sister, so you didn't forget.  It was just when I saw the links to yours and Nards PAD site that I wondered if you knew her.  I wanted to post a comment on yours, but you have it set to not accept anonymous comments, and that's me.  I had to tell Faye to change her setting too.  Of course, unless you don't want comments except for DPC types. haha

Pat, Doesn't Dr. Tozer always hit the nail on the head?  His writings have been the voice of God for me so many times.   Yes, we are wounded to be poured out.  It's so easy to look for reasons when  we are going through really hard times.  I forget that I am simply His.  In the desert, in the valley, on the mountain, broken or whole,  walking in His manifest Presence, or feeling alone, I am simply His, and on the journey He has given me.  God is so wise.  He has a perfect Father's heart, and we are His.

Gotta go wash some dishes and vacuum a floor or something.  love, nita

Hi, friends,

I'm off from work today. I had planned to go to Atlanta, but one of my granddaughters is sick (they think it's mono) and they don't want me to be exposed to her. so, guess we'll go in a couple of weeks or so, after they get the illness under control and until she's not contagious.

My truck is also "sick" and it in for repairs.

So, I'm thankful for a quiet, peaceful day and the ability to take some time here at CP to do some much needed catching up on all my friends.

Y'all take care.

Hi Everyone...

It's a chilly day here.  I was out "getting bootiful" this morning and then did some other errands and was glad to get back into the house to get warmed up.

Karma, I've been looking at your photos on your blog and it would be so-o-o-o nice to see some of them on this site!  Anyone else agree? ;)

I sure hope that we see more and more photos in our Gallery.  Each member gets 10 meg of space and that's a lot of you don't upload massive files.  I keep mine about 75K to 130 or so.

Nita, you should get Faye to upload some here as well!

Sorry you haven't been feeling well, Karma.  How's Nards doing?

Pat

Good afternoon.  I have a very strange question.  I acknowledge the strangeness of it beforehand.  What do you use to get the smell of skunk out of clothing????

Ok The story.  Melaura and her best friend saw a cat on a snow bank and went to pet her and she was promptly sprayed by the cat (skunk)  I now have the job of removing the noxious odour.  Poor kid says it's not even funny.  I agree.  Any ideas?  suggestions?  I guess about 20 years from now we will laugh, just not right now.

Unfortunately the principal thought she had been smoking skunk weed.  She had her locker raided and the dogs were called in.  It is unfortunatel that a child isn't believed when she was telling the truth.  What is skunk weed? and is it smoked?  I am really uneducated when it comes to these things.

Help!!!!

I dunno which is worse - the skunk spray or the non-believers.  Oh Father, have mercy on poor Melaura, and bring something good out of all this that she could never have imagined.

Judy, the vet gave Beth a recipe for skunk shampoo for the dogs, who kept getting skunked.  It is vinegar, dishwashing soap (such as Dawn or Joy) and something else, ...I'm thinking maybe hydrogen peroxide. I will have to find out for sure.  I called her, and she told me where she has written it down, but it's at her house, not mine.  Sorry.  But it is much cheaper and not nearly so messy as using tomato juice.  Pretty "stinky" of the principal to put her through that ordeal after the other one.

I got the three paintings finished, and am really happy with two of them.  The one of Jesus and the woman went really well and turned out so nice.  Also the one of the darling baby.  I will post photos soon.

I have another painting meeting in Great Bend tomorrow, whew!  I'm driving to Garden and riding with another lady from there.

Mark is coming home this weekend!  Yea!  Can't wait to see that guy!

Marilyn, that's the first time I ever heard of anyone going to the hardware store to get pain!  I would leave it there if I were you!  ;)  :lol:

Papa John, I understand how Cornelia feels.  If I am sick three days, I feel like it's been three months!  I have NO patience with sickness.  So I pray she improves rapidly; but I also know that these things sometimes take quite a while.  Darrel's brother was depressed for many months after his heart surgery, sat around waiting to die.  Finally he decided he wasn't going to die, so he got off his duff and got busy again.  :)

I will be back another day!

I pulled weeds and pulled weeds and pulled weeds. :)  Joy!  Love this sunshine.

Pat, I don't think Faye would have the time to put photos here.  She's very involved with DPC and her PAD blog, plus works full time and has a hubby too. :)

Karma, I love Faye's photos too...especially her critters. And I really, really love her Rebel.  Not that mine would be that good if I had it, but it sure takes good pictures.

I didn't know what skunk weed was either.  I was thinking it was a weed that grew in the water, and stunk like a skunk.  I didn't know it was smokable.  Poor Melura.  Add insult to injury.

I'll probably be back later.   Hope you are all having a good day.  Nita

I just received a Skype call from Papa John. Cornelia had another Heart attack last night. She is back in the hospital and was unconscious until today. Last night the Doctors  thought it was almost hopeless for her to recover. However today she seemed a little stronger, regained consciousness, opened her eyes and smiled. I spoke first with his daughter and then when he had composed himself a little more Papajohn himself spoke with me.

I am so sorry to hear of Cornelia's latest setback.  I had the pleasure of meeting them a few times and she is such a dear person. She and Papa John are a wonderful example of a Christian marriage.

Papa John - You and Cornelia are in my thoughts and prayers.

Judy - I found this recipe on the internet for removing skunk odor. Good luck.

Skunk Smell Remover

1 quart   3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup  Baking Soda
2 tbsp  Dish Detergent. The stuff for washing dishes in the sink, not something for dishwashers.

Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, because it will boil up like Vesuvius. We are, after all, making an oxygen generator. Wash the dog (or child  ;)) with this while it is still foaming, because it is the oxygen which reacts with the thiols in the skunk stink to neutralize the odor. If it sits around, it will loose it's efficacy because the oxygen boils off. Don't try to store it in an airtight container, because it will blow up. The brew also works for clothes, humans and unlucky cats.

First of all, so sorry to see that Cornelia has suffered another heart attack.  Papa John, Pat and I are praying for Cornelia, you and all your family.

Judy, your daughter will never forget her experience with the skunk.  I bet she will be careful in the future.

Glad to hear that Beth is going to be able to spend another week in the hospital.
