Morning Devotional...

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
Psalm 23:4

Death is only a shadow when we walk with our Good Shepherd through the valley. He has been here before, and now assures us that it doesn't end in death but in glory.

We find consolation in the presence of the Shepherd and can say with the Psalmist, "I will fear no evil" because "Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me."

Yes, death is a reality but it is only a shadow, because He died to give us eternal life and rose again to take us to the other side and the glory that is there.
--Milton Haack

No, no, it is not death,
the Shepherd's voice to know;
His sheep He ever leadeth,
His peaceful flock He feedeth,
Where living pastures grow.
--Cesar Malan

I am back from the movie.  It was everything that I expected.  It was brutally factual, and as Lee said there was literary licence.  You felt for Mary the mother of Jesus.  But the main thought that was spoken in hushed words was " And he did that for me!"  At the end of the movie there was complete silence except for some sniffling of crying.  The point that I was struck with was the resurrection.  The way it was portrayed was a WOW moment.  And my friend and I were thumbs up .  So often we see the world dwell on the crucifiction and ignore the main point.  Mel Gibson didn't.  He has risen, He is no longer dead.  Praise God! ! !

Since some of the folks don't go back to the previous days late post, I thought I'd re-enter some thoughts on "The Passion of Christ."

"Good evening brothers and sisters in Christ........

Vivian and I just arrived home after seeing "The Passion of Christ."  I could have much to say about this great film, and the last hours of our Lord.  I will say this.  After the film was over a few people got up from their seats and started to slowly walk to the rear.  Many stood at their seats, and just as many remained in their seats.  There was dead silence, and no one spoke at any time until they were out of the theater.  Yes, there were tears in everyone's eyes, and they all seemed to be in a state of wonderment and awe.  I know I was.  The brutality was horrific, and you would swear you were there in in person.  The young man selected for the part of Jesus was absolutely PERFECT.  The man who played the part of Pilate was a great actor, and you really felt sorry for him being in-between Ceasar and the Jews.  I know, we aren't supposed to be, but that's how it works out.  There was too much Mary, and I'll leave it there.  The director took dramatic license in several parts of the film, but they didn't hurt the film.  Neither Vivian nor myself have any idea as to how carnal man will react to the film, other than what's been said on TV already.    As a Christian I said this during the film...."And you went through this for me."  I praised God for my salvation.  Even though we all knew what He went through for us, we were stunned at the horror of it.  Go see it. "

8.45 a.m.

Good Morning.

I have heard on British radio re the "film".  There was a R.C. Priest talking about it.  He said much the same as Judy B.

Each Lenten time I read a certain  book, along with my Bible of course.  For me this particular book takes me "there".  It is :-

"Who Moved the Stone?"  by Frank Morison
This is one of the good "old uns" and I totally recommend it., although I am certain that Pat and Pastor Al and Larry will have read it. While my own copy is very, very old I know it is still in print. It's very popular, especially with the Ministry.

I know in my own heart who moved the stone and this book clarifies it, beautifully. It takes you through the arrest and the trial, right to the crucifixion and resurrection and explains why certain people were not present at differing instances  and why some were.

"The story that Mr. Morison has told of the betrayal and the trial of Christ is fascinating in it's lucid, it's almost incontrovertible, appeal to the reason. For me he made those scenes live with a poignancy and vividness that I have found in no other account, not even in the various attempts that have been made to present the same facts in the guise of a novel." J.D. Beresford.

"A brilliant book" J. Middleton Murry.

May we all "look only unto Jesus...the forerunner of our faith."

Galatians 1 : 10
Am i now trying to win the approval of

Lost my post.  I have Catch-a-Call and the phone rang.  It didn't put the posting page on hold.  So here I go again.

I have heard on National TV that 'The Passion of the Christ' grossed $15,000,000 to $20,000,000 for opening day and that is a week day.  I can't imagine that much money.  For any other film, I would think that is atrocious.  That much money!!!  But for this film, the money is a side factor.  I wonder how many people came to Christ because of viewing this film and also, how many has re-dedicated their lives to Christ?  Wonderful thought.  Also last evening and this morning, I have heard 3 critic's view on this movie and seems these critic had nothing but good to say about the film.  Who would have thought that Jesus Christ would use the media as His advertiser????  I loved reading about Lee's and JudyB's view on this film.  My heart is smiling.

But a sad note now.  This little community of Lapel is sad.  A double-murder was discovered yesterday afternoon.  A 26-year old mother was found in her living room and her 4-5 year old daughter was found in her bedroom...both stabbed.  Her older son wasn't picked up at school so a friend went to the home and found the double-murder.  The father is in Florida looking for employment.  At this time, nothing was said about breaking and entering, robbery, or any visible foul play.  Keep this community in your prayers for this family and loved ones.  Give the community comfort and most of all, find the murderer!  My doors were double-checked last night to make sure they were locked.  I forgot about my alarm system.  Better get in the habit of activating it.

Etta sue.  This is so sad, we will remember the family and the community.  Have you put this in the prayer forum?  I haven't checked there yet today.

The sun is wonderful. -1*C and the snow is melting off the roof.  Woohoo, I love to see the snow melting.   Last night on the way home, coming down our road, There were ribbons of fog.  It was sooo pretty to see.  These ribbons were just above the windshield level, so they didn't interfear with driving. :)

Well Lunch time, have to go feed some young'uns.

Love Judy

He is feeling much better today.  Thank God!  :D

Have a good day!

I am really late today.  My sister and I had to attend a meeting at the care home about care plans for Mom.  Then we went to coffee together and had a nice visit.  We really should do that more often.

Lee and JudyB, thank you for the reports on The Passion movie.  I have seen so many things about the making of it, and the protection of the cast and crew during the filming.  Did you know that Jim Caviezel, who plays Jesus, was struck by lightning on the set?  He said he knows God was protecting him.  The others saw fire go into one side of his head and out the other!

One lady in Wichita died during the movie!  Someone realized she had stopped breathing, the EMTs came, the house lights were turned up while they checked her and then took her out of the theatre.  One of the people they interviewed afterwards said she will never forget that movie, especially since all that happened right at the end of the film.

I have my class coming before long, so I need to get busy!

Etta Sue, what a terrible thing has happened in your community!  Why would anyone do such an awful thing?  That poor husband/father---yes, we will pray for the families.

Upon listening to the radio stations around here, there is so much pros and cons about the movie.  Of course, one must take into consideration whether those announcers are Christians or not.
Perhaps I should see for myself!  I know Norm wants to go...me?? I'm still not sure.

Etta SSue:  How frightening that there was that double murder.  Is Lapel the town that you live in?  What is the population there?

Well, I have all my laundry done up....I wonder how long the clothes hamper will stay empty?...LOL....maybe 'til tonight...

I overslept this morning...didn't get up until 8:30... usually I'm up by 7:AM!

Etta Sue, things like that always make us sad and sympathetic for all involved.  In some ways it is worse in a small community like yours.

Janet, I'm glad you had a chance to be with your sister today.  I have a brother in North Carolina and a sister here in Nashville and we don't get together as often as we should.

I appreciate the reports on the movie by Lee and Judy B.  I'm still debating with myself about whether to go see it or not.

Sonja and Zachary, I'm glad Zachary is doing fine.  Hey, Zachary, what happened to your picture?

Pat, off to London again.  You need to take a few days off and rest.  A good devotional this morning.  Jesus died and was raised from the dead so we might be able to face our death without fear but with confidence and hope.

Heb 2:9
9   But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (KJV)

Heb 2:15
15   And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.  (KJV)

Ria, I am sorry to hear about someone who would put poison out for dogs.  This is a terrible and vicious thing for a person to do.  I hope your dogs will be safe.

Nards, sorry about the weather at this difficult time for you.  We are thinking about you over there in North Carolina.  A lot of snow here in Tennessee today but it missed us here in Nashville.

Jenny, it is good to see you today.

Marilyn, I'm glad you got your power back.  We saw on the weather channel about storms and flooding on the coast in Northern California.

Our local Comcast connection was down for awhile this morning but it is up and running now.

Tomorrow afternoon we are leaving to go to Memphis on the church bus for a couples retreat.  I always look forward to these meetings where we get to know better each other in the church.  I think there will be about 20 or 30 couples.  We will come back Sunday afternoon.  Sunday morning we will have our worship together in the hotel where we will be staying.

Hello Teenager.  Glad to see your smiling face again...Thanks for putting the pic back.Glad you came through the treatment well Zach. It sounds horrendous.  I think you are very brave. Keep well.  You are a treasure. Now I know I have to keep coming back to c.P.  just to see your smiles.

Papa John and Cornelia ..Have a wonderful time.

Etta Sue. This must be so frightening for you.  I pray that the man is soon caught. Charge the angels of Jesus Christ to watch over you dear sister.

Ria, Sunday had her bath. She smells much better, thankfully.  She's a scruffy little lady sometimes.
That is dreadful about your neighbour's dogs. I would be so afraid for Sunday if that happened here. There are some wicked people around, they are only happy if they hurt someone or some animal.

Judy B.  Any news re the horrid people who killed the beavers?

Zachery so glad that you made it through the CT and all the stuff they injected into you. I pray that you will be feeling better and better everyday.

Etta Sue how awful , please keep us informed. I will be praying for the father and brother as well as the community.

I am going to check the internet to find out the prices for the film in this area, there are several theaters in this area showing the film. There have been emails sent to one of the theaters in Eureka protests the showing of the film. I guess that is going on just about everywhere.

Hey Someone open up the clouds and is pouring out buckets of water. It is raining HARD and a lot. I still have to go back out today, after the mail comes, to the bank so I can pay my bills. My paycheck 10 days late. Bummer and Drat.
:o

Ria that is so sad about the dogs. I prefer to keep my babies confined to their own back yard and on a leash when we walk. I don't let them eat anything while we are out walking. With all the rain my babies are getting wet and rubbed down every time they go out. I have never given either of them a bath. Happy dog loves to lay in his big wash tub in the summer, Maybe I will try this summer to bath them out side in the big tub.

Another typical February day.  Below zero at 6:00 this morning and then the sun warmed things up to above freezing.  Now it's cooling off again.  And we're supposed to get more of the same for the next three days at least.  ;D  Then it will be March!!!

Zach, you must be glad that's all behind you now.   :-\

Etta Sue, what terrible news.  Even though the authorities haven't said anything about foul play, if both were stabbed, what else could it be?  I pray the Lord will keep a hedge of protection around you.

for dogs it is terrible. Papa John every day you and Cornelia are in my prayers.

Marylin thank you also you have also dogs but when you are hating dogs is that a reason to give them food
with poison and dogs are eating that when it smells nice. The little white dog is playing but he eat not a lot
but he is no more so sick as the last week and he is to big it is good that he eat no more so much. But he must have a bath he is white but he was no more white.
But when we walk now we take care that they nothing eat
from the street.

I wish you all a goodnight.

Jenny you are such a blessing to me.  I thank you for the email.  Say I have an extra bed if you want to come and spend the summer with me! ! !  How I wish! :-*

WE met with john today and had supper with him.  The kids are outside enjoying the milder weather while it is still light enough to.  They should sleep well tonight.  I have had no word on the beaver.  It is not likely that I will, the authorities will look into it and that will be all.  I don't expect a response from them.

John is so tired.  He has not had a day off for so long that we forget what it is like.  If he is not driving the truck then we have been on the go for other people.  At 56, I say he has to slow down and rest a bit.  He is not as young as he used to be.

Mother is enjoying her appartment.  Doug has lunch with her when he can and she loves that.  I will be in to see her tomorrow and if she is feeling up to it I will take her to Wal-Mart.  The last time I was going to do that she had a dose of bronchitis and didn't want to go out in a snow storm.

Well I am going to go and enjoy a few minutes of solitude.

Bye for now,
Love Judy

Hello Everyone

Some thoughts on the redemption of sins and the resurrection of Christ.

St. Thomas Aquinas is said to have written, "that the Redemption was an even greater miracle than the Creation."

Perhaps Aquinas meant that no human could ever imagine, God becoming human and then redeeming the human race by going to the cross and shedding his blood and giving his life for the forgiveness of sins for all of the creation.

Was Aquinas thinking that there are many creation stories and myths in many cultures that have existed on this earth?

It is easier to believe that God created the entire universe, and never think of the way Jesus came to save it.

Man just does not think that way.  I am reminded of the saying, "God's ways are not Man's ways."

The New Testament speaks of the resurrection as fact.  It was well known to the writers, so there was no need to keep talking about it.

We as Christians believe the birth, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ to be the corner stone of our faith.

Christ had told the disciples of what was to happen, but they only recognized it after the fact.

We can look back and see it more clearly.  One reason is we have the written word.  The written word (Bible) is mass-produced now, and was not available to the disciples. They only had the scrolls that were difficult to read.

As a matter of fact Jesus did not tell them to write it down.  He told them to go preach and baptize.

Christ knew the world would pass away, but the word of God would last forever.  He said this some 1500 years before the printing press was invented.  Now does that blow your mind or as Sonja sometimes says, "that rocks."

Have a nice day

Hi everyone.  Just a quick check-in from Florida to say that we arrived safely after an interesting start.  We had a winter storm in Atlanta and during the night had sleet and snow.  All the schools in the area were closed for the day and I see they are now having freezing rain.  We left at 5:45 am and while it was slick getting out of the area we live, the main roads were not slick and we got south of the city without problems.  It was cold until we got well into Florida and then we noticed it was getting warmer.  We were glad to get out of the car after the 10 hour drive.  Pat's aunt has gone to her church with her daughter as they are starting their small groups studying "The Purpose Driven Life".  So Pat and I have a little time to just relax and eat a sandwich for supper.

I haven't read any of the postings yet and will try to do so a little later.  However, the connection seems very slow and not sure I will have the patience or the time to do so this evening..

People dying during the movie never crossed my mind.  Yet, it's easy to understand.  Perhaps the promoters should warn that those with heart conditions might not wish to attend.  In all truth, I understand how someone with a weak heart might die watching the brutality that continues for so very long in the film.  To give you an idea as to how bad it was, the Roman soldiers who did the beating (Two of them) got so tired they dropped their shoulders, bent forward panting and gasping for breath with their hands resting on their knees.  It was ugly, but glorious at the same time.  It's very hard to express how I actually felt watching it.  Might I add soemthing else.  I really wonder if the unsaved will be able to relate to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world is the one being beaten.  Here's why I say this, thousands of Jews were beaten and crucified in those days and we are unable to relate to them individually because we don't know who they were.  Our intellegence and individual compassion is all we have.  There wasn't sufficient information in the film for an unsaved person to RELATE to Jesus, or to KNOW Him as the Messiah, God Almighty.  Some flashbacks helped, but not enough.  Film history, time, or audience reactions might one day reveal their ultimate reactions.

I read in a brochure today, that it was Mel Gibson's hands that drove the nails into the Lord's hands.  He wanted his hands photographed doing the pounding of nails, he said it brought the truth home to him as to what Christ did for him on the cross.

He said that in an interview that I saw, too.

I just now noticed that I have 3019 posts.

I haven't seen the movie, but what Lee is alluding to about non-Christians is pretty much what I am seeing.

On other forums (not Christian), most believe it is just a retelling of a story (fiction) of a man that lived, similar to how The Patriot is a story of the American Revolutionary War.  I have no doubt that God can use this movie for His glory, but I think there are a lot of people out there with hearts so hard that if we invented a time machine and let them see the real thing, they would still deny it.  It's a good thing God is God, and I am not, 'cause He can deal with that, and I would not.  :P

Some of the schools in the Wichita area were out today and many of the kids went to see The Passion.  The ones interviewed were really touched by the movie; some could barely speak.  Several had brought unsaved friends they had been witnessing to, and they accepted the Lord just after seeing the movie.  They also have tents set up where people can go after the movie to ask questions, get literature or just talk.  These are sponsored and manned by people from area churches.

I really pray this movie WILL be mightily used of God to bring many to Himself.  But, as Karma said, some hearts are hard as concrete!  May God have mercy on them.  And may at least a chink of light penetrate their darkness.

We will be seeing The Passion on Sunday afternoon, if all goes according to plan.

Hope to hear others of you commenting on the film after you see it!

Hi Everyone...I have been away at meetings and have just read all the posts.   Lots going on with the movie.  I hope to go next week with the pianist at the church.   There has been some negative reporting in the newspaper.   I intend to reply back to the reporter and tell him that if he wants to criticize a movie that is based on the greatest story every told and is the basis of our Christian country and is very real, then I am going to cancel my subscription to that paper.    They complain because it is violent and gorey!    As if they don't like violent movies!

I was talking to my sister and she said "Well tell me, how can there be a crucifiction with scourgings and beatings without it being violent."

If this movie draws Christians closer to their Lord to be more devoted to Him, have a fresh commitment to Him and serve Him more fervently, then it will be worth it all!

Love Ruthie
