Morning Devotional...

We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Thy precepts and from Thy judgments.
Daniel 9:5

Daniel and Nehemiah were remarkably similar men.

Just like Daniel, Nehemiah took upon himself the same sort of collective blame for the state of his people (see Neh. 1:6).

Daniel and Nehemiah were both high-ranking officials in a foreign government; both had nearly blemish-free testimonies in their culture, and both were men of prayer (Dan. 9:3-4; Neh. 1:4).

There was no finger-pointing here!

No holier-than-thou attitude!

Corporately or personally, in public or in private, we need to confess our sin.
--Craig Funston

I lay my sins on Jesus,
the spotless Lamb of God;
He bears them all and frees us
from the accursed load.
--Bonar

For Pat

God is still on the throne
And He will remember His own.
His promise is true,
He will not forget you,
God is still on the throne
.

God is still on the throne
And He will remember His own
Though trials may press us
And burdens distress us,
He never will leave us alone.

God is still on the throne
And He will remember His own.
His promise is true,
He will not forget you Pat.
God is still on the throne.

Love You Pat... :-*

Hi Jenny...

It's ok.  I just couldn't sleep for awhile and I'm going back now to lie down.

I forgot to lock the door last night so I've just done it now.

Love ya,

Pat

I have a praise report in the light of the tragedy of the bombing in Moscow.  While we should continue to pray for those affected, I am praising God for one particular group that was not touched, physically, anyway.

This week wraps up "Operation Carelift 2004"  (http://www.operationcarelift.org/ (http://www.operationcarelift.org/)) in Moscow.  There are around 200 American volunteers over there with Josh McDowell Ministries right now.  (I was on the OC 2000 team).  All of them are accounted for and safe, none of them were near the blast.  \

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARILYN!!!!!  I hope your day is as wonderful as you are!!!!!!!!

England 2.50 p.m.

We have had our own tragedy here in England.  A number of Cockle fishers were cut off by the tide in Morcambe Bay, Lancashire and have been drowned.  The authorities think they were illegal Chinese immigrants. There is a lot of gang leadership and many of these folks are abused.  This work is known to be dangerous.

It's suddenly much colder this afternoon.  I finished the ironing and intended to go for a ride round. I will wrap up warm and give it a go.

Marilyn Hope you enjoy the meal with your friend...Have a wonderful Birthday.

See you later.

Thank you Jenny. Ria, Karma, Neil, Margit and Chris, Janet and Pat.
for the birthday greetings. I am now 64 one more year and I will officially be a retiree although I am semi retired now, according to the government anyway.

I am going to work for just 1 hour to prepare dinner for Fay then I will meet Willa at the church and we will be off to Eureka to have a Chinese meal or Maybe Mexican, wherever she takes me. Then we will shop, may not buy though.

As soon as I got the dogs fed this morning I rolled the ends of my hair in rag type curls. Then sat down with my Bible and Days of Praise devotional. To spend my private time in praise, worship and prayer.

I have prayed for the fishermen in Morecombe bay and for the people in Moscow and thanked the Lord for the safety of Josh MacDowells team.

Happy Birthday, Marilyn!!!!!

Janet ~ Yeah, Will would have a hay day with all the problems of the world in government today.  Might have been going on then...just didn't have means for all to know about it.  Sorry to read about Beth's rejection of Social Security once again.  Hopefully a lawyer will help!

Chris ~ I think we have all done that....lose concentration while in church.  I know when I run the lights, it is during prayer that I change the lights and adjust them...I feel all should have their eyes closed and won't see what I am doing.  But, sometimes when I look out over the congregation, I am surprised at what some do while 'in prayer'.  And isn't it true, the same ones are late every week.  LEAVE HOME EARLIER!  But, they did make it to God's house.  That is all that matters.

Jenny ~ That little goldfish is one of God's creations, too.  Great feel-good story!  We need more of them.  I think the media should have a 2-1 ratio...two positive stories, then one negative story.  A much better world!!

Pat ~ Sorry about your new wipers costing so much.  I keep thinking there will be a stop to this rising cost thing!  There has to be!!

Good girl, Lila Mae!!!!

I used to drive a fork lift.  I was supervisor over repair of cordless telephones and answering machines including shipping and receiving.  I had to know how to drive a fork lift in order to supervise the people that drove them.  I wasn't efficient but I could drive one and place a skid of boxes where I wanted them.  BTW, we got our skid/pallets from Buckingham Pallets!  Cute, hunh?

Ruthie ~ I have had these type migraines since being pregnant for Tony.  He turned 43 last Friday.  Oh, I thank God that this is the type of headaches I have.  I may have 3-4 a day and then not again for a couple of months.  I am not complaining...just that they are annoying to me.

Hi Papa John ~ You aren't old...you are young at heart!

Tony got a call last evening telling him not to come to work.  He works at a stone quarry and something was froze up so he called me and wanted to know if I would be home.  He came and he got my garage door fixed.  It was cold out there.  Freezing and outside was freezing rain.  But my car is inside and the door is working fine.  I know now if it breaks again at the same place, then I can get a panel replaced on the door.  It took me all evening to thaw out!

<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))

My Daily Bread reading today really gave me a tool for knowing why I like to think of the things I should do, not the things I shouldn't do.

Focus

Read: Colossians 3:1-11
1You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God's right side.  2Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth. 3You died, which means that your life is hidden with Christ, who sits beside God. 4Christ gives meaning to your life, and when he appears, you will also appear with him in glory. 5Don't be controlled by your body. Kill every desire for the wrong kind of sex. Don't be immoral or indecent or have evil thoughts. Don't be greedy, which is the same as worshiping idols. 6God is angry with people who disobey him by doing these things. 7And that is exactly what you did, when you lived among people who behaved in this way. 8But now you must stop doing such things. You must quit being angry, hateful, and evil. You must no longer say insulting or cruel things about others. 9And stop lying to each other. You have given up your old way of life with its habits. 10Each of you is now a new person. You are becoming more and more like your Creator, and you will understand him better. 11It doesn't matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, or if you are circumcised or not. You may even be a barbarian or a Scythian, and you may be a slave or a free person. Yet Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. (CEV)

Missionary pilot Bernie May writes, "One of the most difficult lessons to teach new pilots about landing on short, hazardous airstrips is to keep their eyes on the good part of the strip rather than on the hazard. The natural tendency is to concentrate on the obstacle, the danger, the thing he is trying to avoid. But experience teaches us that a pilot who keeps his eye on the hazard will sooner or later hit it dead center."

This makes me think of a spiritual principle in the Bible. Instead of concentrating on the sins we want to avoid, we are told to focus on the positive actions Christ desires for us. Paul told the Christians at Colosse: "Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth." (Colossians 3:2). We are to discard old ways of thinking and acting (vv.5-9) and "put on" new ways of living (vv.10-17).

Bernie May sums it up by saying that experienced pilots focus their attention solidly on the track they want the plane to follow, keeping the hazards in their peripheral vision only.

When Christ and His interests are the focus of our lives, the lure of the old life remains in the corner of our eye, while we aim to land squarely in the center of God's will.
—David McCasland

THINKING IT OVER
What "hazards" sometimes divert
your attention from Jesus?
What positive, God-honoring actions
can you concentrate on doing instead?
[/i]

Those who fix their eyes on heaven will not be distracted by the things of earth.

I am a bit late getting in here today.  I slept in late, but it felt good to get some rest.

I have a busy day.

The kids are excited because we get the computers back.  I just have to restore them both.  One has a virus and the other was restored with the wrong cd awhile back.

That shouldn't take to long.

I better get going.  The kids are waiting for mom to go upstairs and hang out and do school and Lila Mae just got up.

Oh ya,
A little story for those who like the kids stories.
 :D

It was lunch time in the Soni household.  We were all getting ourselves something to eat and I had just got Lila Mae some lunch.  We all stopped and looked at her. She had bowed her head and folded her hands together and said "kanchoo...ba..boo.., Ame"  We all just melted. She was talking to God for the first time.
:'( <---tears of joy!!!!
It was a wonderful site to see.

Praise God for little ones!

Oh Soni

Your family is such a joy to me...

Lila Mae is a sweetheart.  I wish I could have heard her..

Chris and I have tape recordings of my eldest grandson Phillip laughing his little head off at about `14 months old...we still listen now.  Yes I do shed some tears as I see him nearly 16 and out in the world...

Soni. Treasure that memory, not a photograph can capture that for you.

Good luck to Troy.  Tell him I don't understand the game...Perhaps he can pop on here and explain it for me?????

It's raining now and has turned so very, very cold...
Time to pop the kettle on and prepare the evening meal for me and Chris..He's home tonight.

Hi everyone.  Just a quick note to let you all know that once again I am experiencing DSL problems but this time it is my service provider.  The service went down about 4:30 last night.  This morning I still wasn't connected but they had taken down the message about service being out in Georgia, Florida, etc. so thought maybe I had another problem.  Was talking with the tech as the ISP and he had me go through a lot of things and while we were working he got a new message that Atlanta was experiencing problems (I could have told him that! ::)  So I guess it is just a matter of waiting.  I am writing using my dial-up connection.

I haven't read any messages since yesterday afternoon.  Pat and I are going to be gone this afternoon and early evening.  I will try to get back on-line, one way or the other, later this evening and get a bit caught-up.

Here I come...late, as usual :-[  It is raining <again> here on the Oregon coast, and I feel chilled, but I will get a fire going in a minute and that should take care of that.  ::)

I have been out of touch for a while because of "things and stuff" at our church with which I have been entangled, and a few other things going on with my family ... oh, yeah, and messing with the IRS  :-\

Today I am planning to try my hand at plumbing ???
I am going to <spoken in faith> replace the innards of the toilet tank!  There has been a tiny drip of water from the intake valve and my water bill has reflected this excess usage so.... it's about time I took care of it.  Especially since I received notice that my rent is going to increase by $10 soon.  :-\

Anyway, y'all take care and think of me once in a while as I wade through the duties and responsibilities of church work and other things that try the soul!

February 6

The Holy Spirit: Just Turning the Crank

So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the Lord to
Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the
Lord of hosts."
--Zechariah 4:6

I say this because it is possible to run a church and all of its
activity without the Holy Spirit. You can organize it, get a board
together, call a pastor, form a choir, launch a Sunday school and
a ladies' aid society. You get it all organized--and the
organization part is not bad. I'm for it. But I'm warning about
getting organized, getting a pastor and turning the crank--some
people think that's all there is to it, you know.

The Holy Spirit can be absent and the pastor goes on turning the
crank, and nobody finds it out for years and years. What a tragedy,
my brethren, what a tragedy that this can happen in a Christian
church! But it doesn't have to be that way! "He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches"
(Revelation 3:22)....

If you could increase the attendance of your church until there is
no more room, if you could provide everything they have in churches
that men want and love and value, and yet you didn't have the Holy
Spirit, you might as well have nothing at all. For it is "'Not by
might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty"
(Zechariah 4:6). Not by the eloquence of a man, not by good music,
not by good preaching, but it is by the Spirit that God works His
mighty works.  The Counselor, 38-39.

"Oh, Lord, I have no desire to 'run a church' or have any part of
just 'turning the crank.' In whatever ministry I am ever involved,
I pray that Your Holy Spirit would be present with His controlling
power. Amen."

Welcome Gordo.

Happy Birthday Marilyn and Happy Anniversary to John and JudyB.

I rested for a little while after posting above and have now had time to read through the postings starting yesterday where I left off through today.  I am still awaiting my DSL service to return.

Janet, so sorry to hear of the denial of the appeal.  Have you searched on the Internet regarding SS Disability applications.  My wife did that some months ago and found some very interesting information.  Have Beth's doctors submitted the reports to indicate the seriousness of her situation?  This is just unbelievable.

Jane, since you are renting why isn't it the responsibility of the landlord to fix the plumbing problem?  Sure know when I had renters they always called me with any problem.  Sure glad I no longer have any rental property and sure don't want any in the future.

Pat, sorry to hear about your car problems.  We continue to have problems with my daughter's car and it has to go back to the shop on Monday.  It needs to pass inspection by next Thursday as that is the last day to get the tags without penalty.  If nothing else I will go ahead and pay the taxes due and I understand that will reduce most of the late penalty.  You sure couldn't drive your car without windshield wipers.

Sonja, glad to hear that Zachery came through his treatment well yesterday.  Hope the swim meet goes well for your son.

Karma, glad to see your praise report regarding the folks in Russia.  It is so hard to understand the thinking processes of terrorists.  Don't build just destroy.  Jenny, sorry to hear of the tragedy over your way and we have sadness over the death of the little girl who was missing in Florida.  The authorities are certain they have the person responsible.

Etta Sue, I know you car will appreciate being in the garage during this cold weather.

We are picking up a couple of pizza's to take to our friend's home rather than going out this evening as originally planned.  It is rainy and chilly out so we decided to not go out to eat.  I don't eat pizza very often but enjoy it when I do have it.

Larry, I own my mobile/manufactured home but rent the space in this mobile home park.  That makes me an owner/renter I guess ...  :-\

Anyway.... Ta Daaaah  I have just completed my plumbing task!   Took about 20 minutes and I now have all new "works" in the tank!!  One more thing I can add to my resume, right?

The rain seems to have stopped for the time being. I  am glad for that, but I need to get some stuff done before it starts up again.

I'll talk with y'all later ....

Edit:   Guess I spoke too soon ... it's raining again :-\

I'm listening to the music, Pat, of the song, "How Great Thou Art."  It is a beautiful song which teaches a great lesson.

Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.  (NIV)

We have had a nice day today even though many of our streets are covered with water.  To get out of our neighborhood and go to the Mall to walk today we had to detour about 10 miles because our main road out is flooded.  It should be clear by tomorrow.

That's not bad, Marilyn.  Glad you got that.

Well, it's been a very mucky day here in Guelph...It snowed all night and the freezing rain this morning and then rain and more freezing off and on all day.  At least it's not freezing cold outside.

Glad I didn't take andrew's car to London yesterday as I had sort of thought of doing.  Today on his way to work, the clutch went on it!  And he's got problems with the brakes too and problems with the $$$ to get the car in ship shape condition.  Glad I stayed home.

Well, must go for awhile.  I have some Admin chores to do in the basement of this site and also have some stuff to do for SN too.

I also have some photos to post for Liz!  I'll do that Liz.  Amanda is a lovely artist.  Glad you sent them.

Hi everyone.  I just finished reading all of yesterday and today's posts.  :)

Chris, the things you posted about the Holy Spirit are really good.  I know we would never want to have the Lord leave our churches, and us not even know it.  That happens, when structure and schedules becomes the god above the sweet Spirit of Christ.  There are times when it seems everyone is so disatisfied in church...I wonder if the Lord is just as disatisfied at times?   Our little church is going through a lot right now,  but I do believe that the Lord will be glorified, that it will bring true repentance and revival.  In fact, there are a few of us who won't settle for anything less. :) (that means you, dear Jane)  God always sifts and fine tunes before He does something.   Sift me, Lord!  Draw me, Lord.  Melt my heart again! Give me new songs and a burning love is consuming.  Then.....just use me for Your Glory.

I've been doing "stuff" around here.  I have new kitchen curtains. :)  Also hung a few things in the kitchen that I've been meaning to.  It looks better now.  I must be getting Spring Fever. :)

It feels like new things are going to be happening.  I feel an expectancy. ;D  I think God is touching my heart.......it feels soooo good.  I love Him so much, and am so grateful for His faithfulness.  I'm looking for great things in our little church.....as Jesus is exalted over everything else that's going on.

We've had some sun, mostly rain, but some SUN....so I've been popping out and pulling weeds here and there.

Happy Birthday, Marilyn.  Sushi! UGH!!  I'd like the desserts, but you could have all the raw fish.  I'll take Mexican or Chinese too. haha

Happy Anniversary,  Judy and John.

I went to the doctor today....routine, but my cholesterol and triglycerides are up, and I've gained weight.  Now, who can I blame for that?  It was a wakeup call.  He said my heart sounds really good....(and Jesus lives there.....but he didn't say that).  So......today I started eating right and need to start walking again.  Yes, Lord.  I hear You.

Oh, Etta Sue.....you'll like this.  Since I got Shadow....around three weeks ago??....she hasn't been able to go outside. (this from a "barn cat" as they called her).  She was spayed and then we had to wait til she had healed some.  Well, today was THE DAY.  Katie went out, and we kept the door open and called Shadow..but she walked to the door, turned around and walked back into the living room and her favorite spot in the window. :)  My grandaughter was afraid she'd get out and run.....but she's pretty well convinced this indoor living is the way to go. haha

   God bless.  Take care everyone.

Thank you for all the greetings.  We surely do apprediate it.

Had supper at Doug and Megans tonight.  John has called and again there is delay.  He was to be home Sunday night, but, that has changed to Monday. :'(

I have praise team tomorrow.  Our pastors wife is scheduled tomorrow, but, she is caring for Dennis's Mom, so I volunteered to run the overheads for her.  I have to pick Melaura up at 5:00 tomorrow night, so that means another full day in North Bay.

I have a dog still outside, I am letting him bounce for a few minutes then he will go to bed easier.

Well Night all
Love JudyB

Finally sat down and read the posts.  Lots of interesting things.....

Happy Birthday Marilyn.
Happy Anniversary John & Judy B.

Another mixed rain and sun day today.  Not much sun!  I went to the local mall and shopped while Wendy had her hair done.  Took longer than estimated and had lots of time to people watch...in between rain showers.

Amanda just showed me her latest movie:  'A Day In The Life Of Perkins The Cat', with Tom Jones singing 'What's New Pussycat?'  Really funny and wish you all could see it.  She also made one about the bunnies, with the Bunny Hop song as background.  Hope she doesn't try 'A Day In The Life Of Gramie!'

So many sad things in the news.  I am really upset about the article stating that the gov. has proved BC Marijuana is financing guns used by Afgan rebels.  What next?  Even the comics don't bring much joy.  They have been doing repeats of my favorites.....GRRR!
Colossians 3:2 states:  Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  I am so glad to be a Christian.  Better to fix one's eyes on the Lord.

God Bless and pleasant dreams all.  Liz
