Here's a question that maybe we could discuss in here today...

What do you think about cremation?
Should a Christian be cremated?  Or does it matter?
Is there scripture for or against it?

Morning Devotional...

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:21

These words succinctly express Paul's spiritual autobiography.

Christ was the sum of all his desires. Physical death is the Christian's last enemy (1 Cor. 15:26), and by itself death is no gain.

It is our state after death that is gain. Paul wanted nothing out of life but to live for Christ, and nothing out of death but to be with Christ.

Death for the Christian is not a bereavement; it is a translation. I like what Patrick said of this text: "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is more of Christ."

Are you genuinely living for Him?

Living For Jesus (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/LIVINGFJ.mid)

Living for Jesus a life that is true;
striving to please him in all that I do,
yielding allegiance, gladhearted and free,
this is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to thee;
for thou, in thy atonement,
didst give thyself for me;
I own no other master,
my heart shall be thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ for thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace,
such love constrains me to answer his call,
follow his leading and give him my all.

Refrain

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
doing each duty in his holy hame,
willing to suffer affliction or loss,
deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Refrain

Living for Jesus through earth's little while,
my dearest treasure, the light of his smile,
seeking the lost ones he died to redeem,
bringing the weary to find rest in him.

Refrain

Good Devotional, as usual, Pat!

I like your links you put in the top this morning. I had never heard of Sinn Fein before. I am curious about it now  ???
I just never understood about the IRA. Maybe someone on here could explain it! I love history  :o

I think Marilyn should make us White Cheesecake and have us all over for dessert!! Thing is we might want to stay for more of her fabulous meals!

Tom has some great stuff in Manna for the Soul as well, Gems.... I like that! Thanks, Tom!

And thanks Chris and Margit the beautiful photos with the scriptures on them  :D

Great devotional today, Pat.  I just finished catching=up again and apparently that's all I can do. :'(  By the time I catch up it is time for Bible reading and getting ready. for work.  I put off getting up at 5:15 to  5:45 and that's my problem.  It sure is nice to snuggle down when the temp is 16 outside.

I have been in prayer for Janet & Beth...am glad Pat has heard from her and I pray the surgery will soon come to pass and will be successful.

Also, condolences to Papa John with the loss of his sister here. But a  wonderful feeling to know she is with our LORD.

So MANY new members!! HURRAY :)  A BIG WELCOME
and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Teresa Dawn!

Let's ALL Live for Jesus today :)

Hi Sis,

Lots to chew over today. I'll let you answer Suzanne regarding Sinn Fein and Irish history!! Tee Hee! I cannot even think about any website that may help Suzanne but there was a film about Michael Collins quite recently and I think it was Liam Neeson who was playing the main role. I did not see the movie but I know that it had something to do with the start of the troubles.

Regarding cremation - well a touchy subject for many but there is guidance from Scripture somehwre in the Minor Prophets though I cannot locate the text just now.

We have had a horrendous 10 days with hurricane force winds and a complete family of 5 lost as their car was blown by the wind from a causeway (don't know what you call that over your way) into the Atlantic.

I lost the roof of my shed, all my wet weather gear that was inside it and my greenhouse was last seen heading towards Greenland!! Blizzards are forecast for the weekend so that will make a nice change. Horizontal white stuff instead of horizontal rain!

The roofers are busy up here just now Chris. What about Manchester?

No matter the severity of the weather it is so comforting to know and to believe that God is in control and that He loves me.

Your brother in Christ

Good Morning From COLD Minnesota!

Praise God ! What a wonderful day ( like every day) just to thank and praise Him for His
faithfulness!  I pray that everyone is well and thanks so much Pat for so much information
today. I will read between this little kids nap and playtime.
I am so happy that I do not have to go out into the elements today. Last Tuesday
I was in the middle of it as I had an appointment that could not be put off.

Praying for everyone here, in the name of Jesus!
Have a wonderfully BLESSED day!

In Christ

Hi Zee - don't think we've met but I'm from across the Pond and I send you greetings in Christ Jesus from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland.

Suzanne - It's heavy stuff!! Sinn Fein.

By the way folks - remember that I was telling you that an all black choir from a Presbyterian Church in Alabama was coming to our island to worship and sing with us? Well they arrived this week and they are absolutely wonderfuil Christian people and great singings.

Their Pastor Rev Dochary Ingram preached last Sunday to a big congregation and everyone that I spoke to enjoyed his sermon.

They were given a quick tour of our island but unfortunately the weather was poor and they did not see much.

Today they head for Edinburgh where they will sing at a Celtic Connections gathering.

We should start a CP choir and start touring the globe.

What do you say folks?

Love to all

Iain

Well, Pat.  Now before retiring for the night, I tend to check to make sure that Stray Cat is outside.  If he isn't I am not going to go out and hunt for him but I am just reassured that he is there.  I didn't see him last night.  And when I took the trash out this morning, I didn't see him and he wasn't in the cat carrier.  BUT Ivalou did go somewhere yesterday afternoon so Stray Cat might have gotten in her garage.

I am happy that Beth's MRI went well and that she will be having surgery again soon.  Surgery isn't anything to be happy about but if this surgery will help Beth to continue independence then I am happy for her and all concerned.  God is good.....all the time.

It is coooooold out there.  The wind was blowing all night.  I noticed that the roads are drifting shut with snow due to the wind.  I doubt if it is as bad as Iain is facing on the Isle of Lewis but it is bad for Indiana.  Glad I don't have anywhere to go today and I have pot of chili to warm my insides.  Thank God.

Hmmmm..... Now you are making me REALLY curious ;)

No kidding I really do like history and world events, I think my little one just hates to bring his history book home! We studied ancient Greece last week, and now we are on to ancient Rome, I love it! Maybe I am strange!  ::)

We have a nurse that is from Ireland and I did ask her about the IRA once, she only told me that some of the Irish didn't like the English, does that make sense?

Etta Sue, that is one good looking gif you got there ;) I love the train!

Suzanne - It's a bit of a touchy subject over here. You see Sinn Fein are the political arm/wing of the IRA. The IRA are regarded in most civilised countries of the world as being terrorists but they have a huge support in the U.S. especially in New York and in Boston.

The Irish are a wonderful people, warm and friendly, but much of the good that happens in Ireland is overshadowed by the underlying conflicts on both sides.

Eire or Southern Ireland is a catholic country while Northern Ireland is mainly Protestant. they use the name of their faith/religion as a tool/excuse for bitterness and bloodshed.

Many good people are trying their very best to unite the two parties and therefore unite Ireland and for now there is a measure at least of peace.

Good Morning Everyone!

Wow!  I can't begin to tell you Iain, how good it is to see your posts!  It sure gives me warm fuzzies.

And you've summarized quite well my thoughts on the IRA/Sinn Fein!

Suzanne, I never understood about this problem until I lived in the country for five years.  I then began to realize how evil an organization the IRA is/was/probably always will be.  They are a godless organization that in the past has been so happy to mame and kill innocents.  And because the power to control them was taken out of the hands of the RUC (police force) by the parliament over in London, there rose up an equally as bad a protestant group who took matters into their own hands and started doing similar things to members of the IRA.

My husband left each day for work and I never knew if I'd see him again at night.  Sometimes he'd come home with the tunic sleeve ripped out of his uniform jacket and many times, he was nearly killed.

But such a huge subject.  It took me five years living there and trying to find out to just scratch the surface!

When we first went over to N. Ireland to live, I lived in an upstairs flat and next door was a lady who had 13 children.  Her name was "Alice" and she took me under her wing as she realized just how homesick I was for Canada and a new bride and expecting our first child.  I wasn't well either.  We bacame good friends and I tried to witness to her as often as I could.

Several years later after coming back to Canada, I went over for a visit to N.I. and tried to contact "Alice" and we spoke on the telephone for a few minustes and then I said, "When can we meet for a cup of tea?".  She said, "Oh, Pat!  We must do our visiting on the telephone.  If we get together, either you or I will be attacked!"  So I never saw "Alice" again.  Sad!  The IRA ruled the Roman Catholic families with an iron fist and wouldn't let any contact between them and anyone not a RC.

I'm happy that my children weren't brought up in this situation of brutality and hatred but I sure miss my adopted country now.  I could easily live there.

The sun is shining in Arizona - reading your posts & just want to mention to Suzanne that you would love the people in Ireland - we found everyone we met to be so helpful, friendly and cordial.  And, they approached us to talk in so many instances.  Loved it - want to go back for longer time some day.

Just finished exercising my body & sipping coffee - next to read and write in the bible study I brought along - "The Prayer of Jabez".  I really like the idea of asking for blessings for self - have never thought of it that way.

A cousin pulled a trailer to this park & he is headed to Mexico for work a month at an orphanage - believe he has been doing this more than 15 years.  It is getting harder & some day he will not be going.  He & his wife are inspirations.  We are so blessed to have so many relatives so active in Good Works & living testaments.  How wonderful to visit with them.  Today, we will drive them to Tucson to visit with twin 2nd. cousins - he has not seen them since the age of five.  So much visiting with my relatives - Don is so good to put up with this but he does enjoy the visits - we do get weary from driving so many around (he does the driving) and talking & I only fix the meals - which is easy for me but not as easy in this rental place.  We will rest when we go back home in March.   ;)

Thinking of all of you & the wonderful place we have to visit - thanks to all of the work of Pat Scott - her son, so many of you - Al, Larry, Sonja, - you are such giving people.  If I have forgotten to mention anyone, please know that it is easy and I have not had enough coffee.

Carol - always striving to be a better lamb of God

This is good reading Iain! What is a county in Ireland, is it like a county in the US or kind of like a state here?
I have heard of them but never knew.

Carol, I love the Prayer of Jabez, I did have it in a word document on my desktop to read everyday.

Suzanne, a "county" in Ireland and Northern Ireland is like a state.  But they are much smaller.

Don't ever forget that Northern Ireland and Ireland (Eire) are two separate countries like Canada and the United States.  There are borders to drive through with officials who can and may ask for I.D.  They have different money, etc.  Many don't remember that.  And the country of Northern Ireland is British.

Well, Iain suggests that we have a CP Choir!  So let's start by practicing this one together!

Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/pass-me-not-o-gentle-saviour.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Do not pass by Your servant.
Genesis 18:3

Words: Fanny Crosby, 1868; first appeared in Songs of Devotion, by Howard Doane (New York: 1870).
Music: W. Howard Doane, 1870

As earnest Christian pastor told of a young man about whom he had long felt much anxiety, as he had seemed so unconcerned about his soul, and was, in reality, a real cause of disturbance and interruption in classes for other young men. Meeting him one day, the loving pastor sought once more to influence him, urging, "We want you for Christ and his service." There was a certain change in his manner which did not escape the eye of the prayerful watcher for souls, and lacking time to do more he seized the opportunity to secure the presence of his young friend at a Christian Endeavor meeting soon to be held. True to his promise he was there. When an opportunity was given for some of the young men to choose a song, it was seen that he was urging his companion to select some particular hymn. The other, yielding to his request, asked if the hymn, "Pass me not, O Gentle Saviour," might be sung; and both young men joined in the singing with evident interest and heartiness. Later in the evening it was requested that all who were definitely on the Lord's side would confess their allegiance by standing. Whereupon the one over whom the heart of the pastor was specially yearning rose at once, and with decision.

"Tell me about your conversion," the thankful pastor requested at the close of the meeting, when hands were clasped in glad, brotherly welcome and recognition.

"Oh, yes," assented the other. "It was all through that hymn we have just sung. I was working on the canal at G, and there was a meeting being held at the Mariner's Chapel, nearby. The words floated out over the water, and from the tug where I was working I could hear them plainly enough. When they were just going to sing those lines 'While on others Thou are calling, Do not pass me by' a great fear came over me, and I thought, "Oh, if the Lord were to pass me by, how terrible it would be!" Then and there, on the tug, I cried out, "O Lord, do not pass me by." And, with a bright smile "He didn't pass me by. I am saved.!"

Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Refrain
Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Let me at Thy throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief,
Kneeling there in deep contrition;
Help my unbelief.

Refrain

Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.

Refrain

Thou the Spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in heav'n but Thee?

Refrain

GOOD * MORNING EVERYONE

Hope that this note finds everyone doing well. Once again OHIO got some SNOW overnight & I am sure that once ETTA comes by she will share that she too got some snow. Well, our school had a 2 HR. delay & so we left plenty early so that we could get there in time. Well, this bear & her cub just about went into a ditch & we were only 5 min. from school. It was ah BLACK ICE. So, coming home ... I just about ran over my MIL ( MOTHER IN LAW ) as the road right in front of her house was also BLACK ICE so ... this afternoon when I leave to get my daughter I'm ah leaving early so we will see what happens this afternoon & I pray that the roads have been ~~  salted down.

Other then that we are all doing well. My oldest found a MUCH BETTER JOB & it does pay a lot better so all the prayers that have been shared for him must have worked out so please do not give up on him ... continue praying for him that maybe he can save up from this job & come home for a visit sometime.

Well, better head over the MENU of THE DAY & get it started so take care & I'll return again soon !!

As I really do not have a talent to make up things like what you have seen me use so ... I am glad that someone enjoys them.  So, thanks for the feedback ... I do have a lot more that will be going up so stay tune !!  Thanks again !! Suzanne is the one that made up my bear that is in my s/n so I am glad that she did beause everyone seems to like it !!

I didn't know that!!!

Take a look at this map, the South part of Ireland has lines to separate the counties, but the North part doesn't.

That is probably because you got the map from a Southern Ireland or Eire site, Suzanne.

There are 6 counties in Northern Ireland.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERESA DAWN :D

January 19

Personal Life: Stay in the Secret Place

My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning I will
direct it to You, and I will look up.
--Psalm 5:3

Retire from the world each day to some private spot, even if it be
only the bedroom (for a while I retreated to the furnace room for
want of a better place). Stay in the secret place till the
surrounding noises begin to fade out of your heart and a sense of
God's presence envelops you. Deliberately tune out the unpleasant
sounds and come out of your closet determined not to hear them.
Listen for the inward Voice till you learn to recognize it. Stop
trying to compete with others. Give yourself to God and then be
what and who you are without regard to what others think. Reduce
your interests to a few. Don't try to know what will be of no
service to you. Avoid the digest type of mind--short bits of
unrelated facts, cute stories and bright sayings. Learn to pray
inwardly every moment. After a while you can do this even while you
work. Practice candor, childlike honesty, humility. Pray for a
single eye. Read less, but read more of what is important to your
inner life. Never let your mind remain scattered for very long.
Call home your roving thoughts. Gaze on Christ with the eyes of
your soul. Practice spiritual concentration.  Of God and Men,
128-129.

"Lord, I need all of these practical suggestions. Direct me today
to those things that would most enhance my walk with you, and
enable me to serve You better. Amen."

Good morning!  Should I introduce myself again?  Seems so long since I was able to be on here.

Thanks so much for your prayers for Beth and for us.  She was able to tolerate the MRI well, now we are anxiously waiting for the doctor to call us with the results.  I hope he doesn't keep us waiting too long.

A big welcome to all the new people, and happy birthday to Teresa Dawn.

I feel I am treading water today, need to do a lot of catching  up.  So I will be off and on here today.  Darrel still cannot get online with his computer, so we haven't solved the problem yet.  Larry was kind enough to suggest a couple things, which we will try.  Also, grandson Curtis helped me last night over the phone.  God bless both Larry and Curtis!

I will be back later, need to read the past couple of days' messages and see what I missed.

I am calling Al right now to see why we haven't seen him lately, oops got the answering machine so leaving a message for him to call me on my cell phone and let me know if they are alright.

Be back later, back to work and then to the bone cracker I mean chiropractor.

Many don't realize that, Karma.  Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom...England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  But Eire is a Republic on it's own.

Thanks for the devotional and all the interesting info. about Ireland.  I knew about most of the problems....not about it being divided into two sep. areas with their own money.  Worked with a woman from Ireland and she and her mother had both fled the country.  What a sad life for so many!

We have gone from serious snowfall to serious rain to serious flooding!  All of which the island is not prepared for.  Now they are experiencing terrible flooding and mud slides on the mainland.  More heavy rain is due and we are having very warm weather today, causing rapid melting of the snow.  Had two feet in our yard last storm.  I am in serious need of serious change :-\

I have been bringing Misty (outdoor cat) into my suite and introducing her to a more gentle lifestyle.  We wondered about her beautiful long tail and fur, so Amanda did some checking on the net.  Learned that the reason we found her so different in looks and temperament is because she is a Maine Coon Cat.  Long, beautiful and has the biggest feet!!  Uses them to hold onto us unlike another cat and uses her mouth to hold onto our sleeves when wanting to continue being held.  Most interesting animal.  Loves to sit beside or on the lap and is so gentle and loving.

Regarding cremation, I don't know of anything forbidding it....that this person is aware of....Personal belief is that we are only going to need present body while alive on earth.  God will give us a whole new body after death.  So, once we depart from it, our body will not be of further use!  I personally plan on cremation as a simple and inexpensive solution to the journey's end.

Having stated that opinion, will now run for cover.  Pleasant day to all and God Bless.

Brothers And Sisters,

I was just thinking about the many sweet Christians here and find that I am becoming addicted to CP. I'm also praying for those who are ill and facing other trials.

I just finished reading the Testimony of Brother Iain,  and what a blessing it was! Brother Iain, thank you for sharing with us.

Sister Pat, the devotion and music was also a blessing.

It's another wonderful day in the LORD.

Love In Christ,
Tom

DOES JESUS CARE? (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/doesjesuscare.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
Too deeply for mirth or song,
As the burdens press, and the cares distress
And the way grows weary and long?

Refrain
Oh yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

Does Jesus care when my way is dark
With a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades into deep night shades,
Does He care enough to be near?

Refrain

Does Jesus care when I?ve tried and failed
To resist some temptation strong;
When for my deep grief there is no relief,
Though my tears flow all the night long?

Refrain

Does Jesus care when I?ve said ?goodbye?
To the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks,
Is it aught to Him? Does He see?

Refrain

I'm droppin in for a few minutes to say thank you for all the kind expressions of sympathy in the passing of my sister. It has been a difficult time, especially for Genevieve and Walker's sons who lost their dad and a month later lost their mother. But we are a strong family and everything is going to be all right.  We are sustained by our faith in the Lord.  Genevieve and her husband walker were strong Christians who were ready for their call to the heavenly home.  My brother, Steve, who has been at our house since Sunday drove back to North Carolina today.

Many of us said the prayer when we were children:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

My sister went to bed last Friday night and peacefully died in her sleep.  God took her during her sleep.  And she followed her husband who went exactly one month before.

Yesterday after the funeral everyone came to our house for our meal together. There were 21 of us. We had asked that no food be brought and so we didn't have all those casseroles which usually come with brought food. Instead we got a big container of barbeque, with buns, potato salad, baked beans, etc. It was a sad day but we enjoyed being together as a family.

Yes, Papa John, it is so good to know that both your sister and her husband are safely at home with the Lord they lived for and served during their years on earth.  What better legacy could one leave?  Glad you had some time with your family, it is sure to have helped all of you to have that time together.

I went to Beth's and cleaned the bird's cage, and the mess around and underneath it;  took her in her small cage out in the yard for a couple of hours, so Ruffles (cockatoo) could get some fresh air.  Then I came back over here and spent a couple of hours cleaning in the garage.  Why do we keep so much JUNK?  We (Darrel helped me) got rid of a lot of excess, but still so much more to go.

Now I'm really tired!  I plan to watch Hal Lindsey tonight and go to bed early.  I am driving a friend to the eye doctor in Garden tomorrow.  They will dialate her eyes, so want her to have a driver with her.  In the afternoon is my painting class.  See you later!

Papa, you may have told us, but where in NC does Steve live?

There seems to be so much going on with all ya'll, I won't try to keep up with it all.  Blustery cold here WNC, and I am so very tired, for some reason (more than normal).

Supper is about ready, so I'm just saying "hi" for now, maybe more later . . .

Lots of interesting information on CP today.

Discussing creamation. Gilbert, Sarah and I were discussing the future disposal of our bodies and being organ donors.

Bea the lady I used to work for is donating her whole body to science to save expense to her family. I have also thought about doing that to keep expenses down for Gilbert. Is there anything scriptural  against that.

I doubt the other children would contribute and I don't have any kind of insurance. I have also beent Thinking about life insurance and have sent off fo the plan offered by AARP through New York Life.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to drop a quick note.  Melanie is doing very well after surgery.  She's up and about, we've gone out to eat a couple of times.

One problem is that she's been a bit nauseated the past several days.  This concerned us a little, so we took a test photo...

Could that be a advertisement???  No, it is our test.

Talk more later.
