Morning Devotional...

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.  1 Peter 1:11

The Roman god, Janus, gave us the name for this month--January. His image was a head with two faces looking in opposite directions, suggesting the uncertainties of time.

As Christians, we too look in two directions but with no uncertainty.

In the past, we see the work of Christ completed perfectly and, with certainty, we look ahead and anticipate that the future glory will be just as accurate.
--E. Fesche

When the paths of prayer and duty
and affliction all are trod,
And we wake and see the beauty
of our Saviour and our God,
Oh! 'twill be a glorious morrow
to a dark and stormy day,
When we smile upon our sorrow,
and the storms have passed away.

There are so many blessings here..some to take with you each day and share with others...some that you will give each day to share with us.

I pray that all of you will have a blessed day.  I just love starting off a new year,  a new day. :D ;)

love from  kathy

Sing to the LORD a new song. Sing aloud to
God our strength; make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob.  Raise a song and strike the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the lute.  He has put a new song in my mouth --praise to our God; many will see it and fear; and will trust in the LORD. (taken from Daily Light)

Tell us about yourself.....

Soni:  Your 'puter artwork is Shock and Awe!  Love your stories about potty training - I had to stay with the grands to help them really learn potty training as their parents just couldn't get it completed - Grandma had to step in and put them in "Potty Boot Camp"  -

Everyone, have a wonderful and healthy day - a day of closeness to your loved ones.  I want to pick out a new daily Bible study that I can take when we travel - so, it has to be lightweight - any ideas????

hahahahaaa...Carol, "Potty Boot Camp"  This is so funny.  I think that is what I will call it.

Not sure about the study book.  Maybe head to the Christian book store and see what they have.  I really like the Precious Bible Promises book by Coral Ridge Ministries.  It's not really a devotional though.  Good luck in your search.

Have a good day!

Carol, the devotional that Chris mentions is really a good one.  I've not been using it lately as my book (which was my father's and mother's) is packed away and I must get it out.  But on the net you can get Mrs. Cowman's devotionals every day on the Back to the Bible site.

Here's today's...

Streams in the Desert
Climb Upward
by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman

"And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the. winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst"
(Ezek. 41:7).

"Still upward be thine onward course:
For this I pray today;
Still upward as the years go by,
And seasons pass away.

"Still upward in this coming year,
Thy path is all untried;
Still upward may'st thou journey on,
Close by thy Saviors side.

"Still upward e'en though sorrow come,
And trials crush thine heart;
Still upward may they draw thy soul,
With Christ to walk apart.

"Still upward till the day shall break,
And shadows all have flown;
Still upward till in Heaven you wake,
And stand before the throne."

We ought not to rest content in the mists of the valley when the summit of Tabor awaits us. How pure are the dews of the hills, how fresh is the mountain air, how rich the fare of the dwellers aloft, whose windows look into the New Jerusalem!

Many saints are content to live like men in coal mines, who see not the sun. Tears mar their faces when they might anoint them with celestial oil. Satisfied I am that many a believer pines in a dungeon when he might walk on the palace roof, and view the goodly land and Lebanon. Rouse thee, O believer, from thy low condition! Cast away thy sloth, thy lethargy, thy coldness, or whatever interferes with thy chaste and pure love to Christ. Make Him the source, the center, and the circumference of all thy soul's range of delight. Rest no longer satisfied with thy dwarfish attainments. Aspire to a higher, a nobler, a fuller life. Upward to heaven! Nearer to God!
--Spurgeon

"I want to scale the utmost height,
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I'll pray, till heaven I've found,
Lord, lead me on to higher ground!"

Not many of us are living at our best. We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains. The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills. We do not know what we lose in our self-indulgence, what glory awaits us if only we had courage for the mountain climb, what blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God. --J. R. M

"Too low they build who build beneath the stars."

Till the Storm Passes By (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/119_Til_the_storm_passes_by.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by Mosie Lister

Mark 4:39
"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,
Peace be still.  And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howl above me, and there's no hiding place.
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try,
For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by"
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore;
In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Good Morning, Thanks Pat for the devotion today.

Ria you always post such nice things every morning, the short poems and always a little scripture.

Now I have one to share also;

"Then those who honored the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened and heard them. The names of those who honored the Lord and respected him were written in his preseence in a book to be remembered." Malachi 3:16 NCV

Good morning all!

What wonder devotions and posts.  Our small group is having a Bible study starting January 6.  I can't remember what it on right now.  Several was mentioned by Pastor Mark and I can't remember which one we are doing.  Just know that Mark hadn't done it before so it will be for him too.

It is to get to 61° here today but cloudy and overcast.  Quite a fog when I got out of bed.  Also it has been raining.  Better than snow!!!!

 >:( >:(Lost my post......... :-\ :'(

Pat and I were talking the other day about how so many people feel lonely and stressed during the holidays and I mentioned an old poem I remembered from years ago.  She asked me to look for it, and last night I found it, so will share it here.

                    HOW TO BE HAPPY

Are you almost disgusted with life, little man?
I'll tell you a wonderful trick
That will bring you contentment if anything can,
  Do something for somebody, quick!

Are you awfully tired with play, little girl?
  Worried, discouraged, and sick--
I'll tell you the lovliest game in the world,
  Do something for somebody, quick!

Though it rains, like the rain of a flood, little man,
And the clouds are forbidding and thick,
You can make the sun shine in your soul, little man,
  Do something for somebody, quick!

Though the skies are like brass overhead, little girl,
And the walks like a well-heated brick,
And our earthly affairs in a terrible whirl,
  Do domething for somebody, quick!

I had this sent to me today.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain."

- Maya Angelou -

What a way to start the New Year, by changing what we can and changing our attitude for the rest.  In changing things, the act of falling on our knees,  causes change to happen.

Good morning to all of you; sorry I haven;'t been here; I was visiting with my mother in law, Jean; she is one of those who get so depressed with the holidays near, so I hoped I helped her. I am not sure that she knows our Lord, so I do pray for her salvation. I hope all of you had a great Happy New Year, and pray all your dreams come true in 2004!
Love in Him,

Sonja..........

I then go outside, scream at the top of my voice, fire off a couple of rounds from my 3" mag, kick my dog, lay on my back and kick my feet.  No time for depression, too busy. ;D

BTW...........

We went to a friends for dinner last night in a moderate snow fall.  Rick lives higher in the mountains than we do, and by the time we arrived  the wind was really blowing the snow around.  By the time we left for home there was a true blizzard blowing horizontally, and it was a complete white-out.  Twenty five miles of very slow going.  It snowed all night and I have over a foot of snow to blow, shovel, and push.  I'm going to dress like I'm going to the Artic.  Have a bad cold.  The joys of living in N. Idaho. ;D

Anyone for a cup of hot chocolate?

Lee, that was my guess, also.  Pat, an EMT is an Emergency Medical Technician.

I just watched a very informative program on TBN about prophecy and how it is being fulfilled right in front of our eyes today.  The time is short!!  Look up!!

Well, the time has gone quickly, and Sunday night is when we will be going to Dodge City to pick up Beth as she returns from her visit in Utica, New York.  She has had a wonderful time.  Prayers for her safe trip home will be appreciated.

I think it is time for Janet to go do some framing.  I have a nice stack of work waiting for my attention, and since I am feeling a lot better, I need to go tackle it.

WELCOME TO CP, GRANDMA EMT!!!

Pat the EMT usually rides in the Ambulance  and also is with the Fire Department Resuce unit. and is the first response medical tech that sees and cares  for the patient in an enmergency.

Going to work shortly, I am to do some baking for Fay ( 94 yr. old) today, Cornbread and a Lemon cake. She had to take her lower plate to be repaired and won't get it back until Jan. 12th and has to eat all soft stuff. She is going to hold my job for me and so is Bea.  Praise the Lord.

Hi Mieka and Soni you were posting the same time as me. Soni uninstall WeatherBug, it also messed things up when you go to  do a System Cleanup. It slows everything do and cause the cleanup to hesitate and stall. You can get your weather report for your area on Yahoo when you customize it to make your personal place on My Yahoo You can also get it on MSN and other places.

Mieka, what a lovely parade to be able to watch in person.

Cami, it's so good to see you back here.  I'm sorry about your mother-in-law.

Sonja, I use "No Ads" and never see a pop up anymore.  You do have to add each popup as it appears and then it won't appear ever again.

Oh, Mieka!  Janet has said it for me.  I shed tears too for you my little one.  I love you so much.  Sometimes I stand in front of the kitchen sink washing the dishes and my heart goes out to you and when I think of you I weep--tears of joy that we've met so many months ago, tears of joy to see how you've grown spiritually  and also tears of sadness that you must leave once again for Lhasa.

Mieka, please don't ever forget that you are loved here on Christian Photographers by so very many people.  But especially by me, your "Mum"!

I'm so sorry, Sonja.  It's awful to have problems with these machines.  I've had a week of it now and it's awful.

My problems seem to be much less than they were, on my computer.  But I am still going to let Curtis completely reformat it, and put all my photos on discs.  I would really feel terrible if I should lose my photos!

Soni, I am so sorry you are having problems.  Give the boys my love and tell them I miss them on here!  And I will be happy for all of you when you get the problem solved.

Have a good day at work, Marilyn!  I am working too, just came downstairs for a cup of hot tea.  It was 63 degrees here yeaterday (unbelievable!) but it is getting colder now.

Darrel is running his statements and I am cutting mats, so we have both been upstairs.  His office and my frame room are both upstairs.

Legends
Phread, 8-4-03

He came home in a foul mood.
He just wanted to be left alone.
It had been a very rough day at work.
and he was in no mood for joy.
He sat alone in his big easy chair...

As he sat stewing in his own juices,
rubbing his temples and eyelids,
mommy said softly, "Kids, don't
bug your daddy. He's cranky and
upset from being treated unfairly
and unkindly by people at work!"

The kids felt bad for their daddy, so
they brought him their favorite toys
and laid them quietly at his feet...
They brought some candies and apples
and lined them up on the arm rests...
They gently patted and hugged his legs,
stroked his arms and patted his head...

Then they climbed slowly onto his lap,
hugged his neck, put their soft cheeks
against his, nuzzled his ears with
their little noses, and whispered
sweet sunshine into his weary ears...

It wasn't very long at all before
light and warmth spread to his heart,
and their daddy began to smile...
He slid onto the rug, now tamed,
got down on all fours, grinned, then
offered them a ride around the house...

As mommy watched from the hallway,
tears glistened in her eyes,
and she bit her lip to
keep them from spilling over...
Yes, those little ones were truly
legends in their own time...
They were the "horsey whisperers..."

Trusting in the Lord for all things.
I have been away for awhile, my wife and I went to stay at the coast for a couple of days last week, but after two day my wife got very sick, and I had to take her to emergency, she is still in the hospital fighting a bacterial infection, Lord willing, I hope to have her home soon.
Take care
Tom

Tom:  So sorry to hear that you wife is so ill - my prayers for her better health.

Chris:  Thank you for your note - I will look into it and thanks also for the bible daily site as I have bookmarked that for a readable.  It looks very good.

Soni:  Don told me to tell you this site has a free pop-up stopper.  Look at this page on the lower right side.
http://www.panicware.com/popupstoppercompare.html
If I need to see a pop-up that isn't coming through, I just use Control/Enter and I can read it.

Hope this can be of help.  We had to take Weatherbug off once but able to reinstall it now and it seems to be doing fine.

I am cooking some weird soup - well, I just keep adding things to it and it will come out alright.  I froze the turkey carcass from the holidays - son's girlfriend was going to throw it out and I wanted to teach her to make soup at least but so many are not interested in making homemade soup.  My own children like soup as they had it for dinner sometimes.  Anyway, I boiled the carcass and added chicken base flavor and spinach, peas, carrots, and beans.  (This is not very interesting news).   ::)

Mieka:  It is always lovely to read your notes.  Sorry that you feel so sad.  You have a ton of friends here in CP.  Happy New Year to you and may you have a wonderful year ahead.

Carol

Marilyn..........

You know everyone will be praying for your quick recovery.  When I had my last surgery I asked the doctor: "While your in there, how about cutting out my sin nature".  He said Huh? ;)

Janet........

I spend a whole lot of time in studying and teaching Prophecy.  I can't think of anything more exciting.

Tom.........

Just prayed for your wife.  May she return home soon.

Mieka..........

When I was working uniform in Los Angeles, I worked the Parade in Pasadena twice.  In those days we made $35.00.  What did we do for our $35?  Got up at 2:00am, drove to Pasadena, parked a mile away from the parade route, walked to the staging area, stood crowd control in near freezing weather (Chilled to the bone) on the parade route, stayed until everyone went home, then drove 25-miles at 10-miles an hour so sleepy I could hardly keep my eyes open.  Yep, earned every cent of our $35.  I finally got smart and never worked it again.

I have asked my Pastor If I can have communion before I go into surgery. He said sure that they would be there before I went in anyway to pray with me and that I could have communion if that was what I wanted. I have a great Pastor.

I too love to read and hear about prophecy. Lee you already knew that. It is amazing also that proof has been found of Paul"s shipwreck. They found the anchors.

What wonderful messages today - so many devotionals and links!  Thanks!

Not much going on around here today.  We got about 1/2 inch of new snow this morning and with temperatures just barely getting above freezing it's still with us.  Tomorrow and Sunday are supposed to be warmer, though, but Monday is expected to bring more snow.  No prediction yet of how much.

Another great day the Lord has given us.

I am heading to bed, folks.

Night
Soni

A little something to help me memorize God's word.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: as I loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

K State lost in the Fiesta Bowl....... :'(  The referees made some bad calls, and they cheated Kansas out of about 10 much needed seconds at the end of the game, but........

I'm glad I don't have that long trip home like the guys do, after such a disappointment.

I'm headed to bed now.  Goodnight all!
