Morning Devotional...

Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the man
       Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
          Nor stands in the path of sinners,
          Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
       2But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
          And in His law he meditates day and night.
       3He shall be like a tree
          Planted by the rivers of water,
          That brings forth its fruit in its season,
          Whose leaf also shall not wither;
       And whatever he does shall prosper.

       4The ungodly are not so,
       But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
       5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
       Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

       6For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
       But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

This song reminds the worshipper of the two kinds of people in the world: those who love the Lord and those who don't, those who want to hear His Word and those who don't.  In this song, then, the worship leader, standing in the temple on Mount Zion, leads the people, early in the morning, to sing out an exhortation for those who want to live as those who love God.

He sings out that those who do love the Lord and desire to please Him should want nothing to do with the ideas of those who don't - they shouldn't want to be influenced by them in any way.  They don't walk with them, stand with them, or sit with them in conversation.  In other words, they simply don't travel in that crowd, because they don't want to begin acting as they do. The song reminds them that the Lord "blesses" them in this - that He approves their behavior, that they've actually begun to please Him in that way.  This doesn't mean, of course, that God's people should try to avoid the people of the world all the time – it just means they shouldn't make them their close, continuous companions.
(1 Corinthians 5:10 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&passage=1+Corinthians+5%3A10&version=NKJV) )

Having sung about what they shouldn't do, the leader then turns to the positives.  He says, "But his delight is in the law  of the Lord (the entire Bible), and in His law he meditates day and night."  In singing these words the leader paints a picture of those who love God: they are ones who gladly hear His Word, and they are always considering what it means for them – they meditate on it day and night. That means that even when they daydream, it's about how the Word might apply to what they do each day.

The people are next led to sing about the blessing of the Lord upon those who meditate in that way. He says, "He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."  What encouragement!  He leads them to see in other words, that they'll be very successful - just as a tree, planted by refreshing, strengthening water grows, blossoms, and is fruitful, so the lover of God succeeds in life (not necessarily as the world understands "success," but in God's view of things).  Those who make it a habit to consider how they may please their Lord will abundantly succeed in doing so!

But that's not the way it is with the ungodly, with those who don't really care to consider how to please the Lord.  They may at times think they're prospering in life, and they may think that getting ahead financially and socially is "where it's at," but in the sight of the Lord and in view of the reality of His eternity they are total losers. They'll have to stand before the Almighty and holy God to answer for their attitude and behavior, but they won't be present when God gathers the "congregation of the righteous" to Himself.

Finally, the people are led to sing the real clincher: "For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish."  That's exactly what the godly need to know.  They (we all) need to be aware that God CARES, that He's not out there somewhere, paying no attention when we're trying to please Him, but that He sees it ALL!

After reading this wonderful Psalm together, let's sing it now.

Psalm 1   (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/st.peter.mpga)
(Click to hear music)

Musician:  Alexander R. Reinagle, 1799-1877

1  THAT man hath perfect blessedness
Who walketh not astray
In counsel of ungodly men,
Nor stands in sinners' way,

Nor sitteth in the scorner's chair:
2  But placeth his delight
Upon God's law, and meditates
On his law day and night.

3  He shall be like a tree that hath
Been planted by a river,
Which in its season yields its fruit,
And its leaf fadeth never:

And all he doth shall prosper well.
4  The wicked are not so;
But like they are unto the chaff,
Which wind drives to and fro.

5  In judgment therefore shall not stand
Such as ungodly are;
Nor in the assembly of the just
Shall wicked men appear.

6  Because the way of godly men
Unto the Lord is known;
Whereas the way of wicked men
Shall quite be overthrown.

Thank you Pat for the devotional on Psalm 1.   I'm glad you are posting on the Psalms.   I went into the area Songs of Worship and Psalm Studies by Al Moak and was reading Psalm 100 and have decided to read one Psalm every day.   I also love the hymn that you put in.   I hope everyone will click on and listen to the words.

Will post again later.

Time for bed.     God Bless

9.30 a.m. U.K.

Good Morning

The Sun is shining brightly...Wonderful!

It's still icy cold and oh dear me, the windows!!!
don't worry Pat, I have done them, didn't keep them for you!
 ;D

Psalm 1 Is a meaningful psalm for me especially verse 3.  This verse speaks to me of my self, my body ageing but as I receive "Living Water" from Jesus I shall not fail to bear fruit for Him.

"Inward, Outward and Upward Direction"

Living He loved me.
Dying He saved me.
Buried He carried
My sins far away.

Rising He justified
Freely forever,
Some day He's coming,
Oh Glorious Day.

Wonderful news when we know Jesus as Our Saviour.

"Perfect Love cancels out fear" 1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Isaiah 35:4

"Say to them that are of a fearful heart,Be strong, fear not: behold Your God will come, He will come and save You.

Ria and Soni

Jesus sent you these precious promises:-

"Fear Not little flock.  It is the Father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom".

"Fear Not I am with you always. Even unto the end of the World"

God bless you all with His peace.

QuoteBy Chris~In the same way, we Christians look forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ. We have no fear of that great day because He has forgiven our sins. The only things He will notice are how much we have grown in righteousness, and how we have learned to endure the trials of life. He has already told us the words of praise we can expect: "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" (Matt. 25:21).

This is great!  Gave me warm fuzzies in my tummy.  Thanks, Chris.  You always seem to have the write right words.  :D

Awesome poem, Ria!  The power of pray is incredible.

My husband works with a man and I am not sure he is a christian or not. Anyway, when I was going through that mess with the anuerysm, Mike had told everyone at work about it.  A week after we found out I had nothing, I mean no anuerysm in my head he came up to Mike and asked how I was doing.  Mike said, "she doesn't have an anuerysm, she is fine." This guy just looked at Mike and didn't say a thing and walked away.  He came back to Mike the next week and asked the same thing.  Mike told him that it was an answer to prayer.  This guy said, "oh cool" and looked baffled.  Mike was a bit confused, but hopefully God was speaking to that guy at the time.

Hi Folks. Just a quick post to say Hi. It was -33C here this morning when I got up and it is only going to a balmy high of -25C here today. I have had enough cold for one week. I was in New Brunswick and Northern Maine this past week and it was cold all over. They have had a lot of snow out that way this year. It was snowing Thursady Night as i was coming across the Gaspe' Peninsula into Riviere du Loup PQ. It's amazing how God times things just prefectly though. The snow didn't start until I was done with what I had to do out there and was on my way back with no presure to get anywhere except to get home safely and even that was in his hands. Hope you folks are finding some of this material interesting as I relate some of my experiences each week. It gives you some insite inmto a truckers life and some of the places we travel to. If you have an atlas or North American map you will be able to see the vastness of our beautiful continent.
Ria if you would like a map of Canada and the USA I can send you one. Just let me know. I know from what I have been told about Holland that I travel further each week than the whole size of Holland. Well this week I am off to Tennesse again, so I am looking forward to thawing out. It will be a nice treat after this cold week. Oh by the way it was so cold in New Brunswick one night this week that I had difficulty mataining a comfortable temperature in the truck bunk to sleep. This is very unusual for my truck.
Check back later today. Bye for now. John.

Just stopping by in a rush.  It is predicted that we are having a winter storm watch tonight and tomorrow.  Wouldn't you know...I am to do the lighting at both services tomorrow.  So I am hoping that Jerry gets online so I can tell him I will go get him today before the snow starts flying.  I don't think he would be much help if I get stuck in the snow going to church tomorrow but it would be great comfort knowing someone was with me.

Oh, yes!  I will bring my old harddrive back here and see if we can retrieve my downloaded fonts!

My new pc is looking good!  I keep finding new things to 'dress' it up.  I did save all the photos in my Webshots Screen Saver.  Wow!  I didn't realize I had almost a 1000 photos in there.

Ali and Inky are doing so good together.  I think Ali finally realized that she couldn't conquer Inky so she is tolerating her now.  Sometimes she looks at Inky as if to say...can't you be awake and still at the same time?

From Daily Praise
[/b]

January 24 - THOSE THEES AND THOUS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do" (Exodus 4:15).

These words of God, spoken to Moses concerning the mission he and his brother Aaron were to undertake at Pharaoh's palace, are one of numerous examples in Scripture where the King James translation uses several different forms of the second-person pronoun. In this one verse, we see the words "thou," "thy," "you," and "ye," all fulfilling this function. Most modern translations would translate this sentence: "You shall speak to him . . . and I will be with your mouth . . . and will teach you what you shall do." Why would the King James translators use four different forms of the pronoun when only "you" and "your" are used in modern versions?

The fact is that the Elizabethan-age English was able to make much finer distinctions than modern English. That is, "thou," "thee," "thy," and "thine" were used for the second person singular, whereas "ye," "you," "your," and "yours" were the corresponding words for the plural. Different words also were used for subject, object, and possessive modifier, as is still true for first and third-person pronouns.

In our text, God was telling Moses that he (Moses) was to speak to Aaron, and that He (God) would then teach both of them, not just Moses, what they were to do. This distinction is clear in the King James English, but not in modern English. This is one of numerous examples where such fine points in the King James language are lost in modern translations.

In the Lord's Prayer, for example, "yours is the kingdom" could suggest that many will possess the kingdom, where "thine is the kingdom" clearly recognizes one God alone. Clear words are important for clear meanings, and Jesus said, "My words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35). HMM

Hi Everyone
Al and Pat I enjoyed the Psalm 1 and the song for today.

Verse 2 is such a beautiful verse to me.  "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night."

I have written in my Bible these words:  "Do you delight in reading the word of God?  Do you spend time talking to God?  It is not the time spent in reading the word that is important, but it is the time in enjoying the presence of God that strengthens us."

Liz I am happy you enjoyed the Elvis site.  I believe it is good for us to laugh at ourselves sometimes.  ;D

Getting old is really a blessing from God that we should be thankful for, and I am sure God sees some humor in our actions.

At least I am hopeful some of my actions are seen by God as humor.  ;D

We have been on the road and back home and so many things going on - just bushed.

Sonja:  I saw your prayer request and so nice that you are Ashley's auntie as you will be able to get a lot of prayers and concerns for her.

Jenny:  We don't have a Holocaust Day or anything like it that I know of- it would be good to remember such horrible events from many other countries as well - I am thinking of Cambodia as well.  We do have a national day of prayer and our Washington government has a breakfast with praying  - I am surprised that we still have such a day on the calendar and isn't it odd that prayer is not allowed in school when after all, we do have a National Day of Prayer?

Mieka:  It was fun seeing your note from the other day.   ;D  8)

It is nice and warm this Saturday, so, I have been washing little rugs and we have been cleaning the car inside and out.  Snow and cold arrive soon.
Good health to everyone.  Carol

We also are weak in Him, yet by
God's power we shall live with Him.
2 Corinthians 13:4

I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Hi everyone.  Am really tired tonight as had a very busy day.  Our son was here about 9 am and he told us of the experiences he had on his trip to China.  He truly had a great time and commented on how nice the Chinese people were to the 4 of them in his traveling party.  He had many interesting experiences.  Then a little before noon we started working on Pat's computer to install Windows 2000.  That went well but then we had to reinstall the printer and scanner and then found that the old sound card wouldn't work so had to go out and purchase and install a new sound card.  It also appears that in the process we lost all the saved e-mail that Pat had, although we didn't destroy any of the other programs.  I had backed up her address book last evening so that hasn't been lost but she had saved a large number of e-mails.  However, if the truth be known she will probably never miss them.  By the time he left about 5 pm I think we were all exhausted.

See you all tomorrow.

Larry - What a lovely visit you and Pat had with your son.  Will you be posting any of his pictures from China? ???

I'd sure love to see them. :)

Just a little further about the "thees and thous."  I grant you that the King James was more accurate in the translation of that particular passage, but I don't believe the problem with modern translations is with the language - it's with the translators themselves.  Check out the New King James.  It's a modern-language version, yet that particular passage is accurately translated.  That's true in many passages.
