Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
The Knowledge of God

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
--Hebrews 5:12

Probably the most widespread and persistent problem to be found among Christians is the problem of retarded spiritual progress. Why, after years of Christian profession, do so many persons find themselves no farther along than when they first believed?...

The causes of retarded growth are many. It would not be accurate to ascribe the trouble to one single fault. One there is, however, which is so universal that it may easily be the main cause: failure to give time to the cultivation of the knowledge of God....

The Christian is strong or weak depending upon how closely he has
cultivated the knowledge of God....

Progress in the Christian life is exactly equal to the growing knowledge we gain of the Triune God in personal experience. And such experience requires a whole life devoted to it and plenty of time spent at the holy task of cultivating God. God can be known satisfactorily only as we devote time to Him.
Dr. Tozer in The Root of the Righteous, 7-9.

"Lord, I'd like to devote the remaining years of my life and ministry to the 'holy task of cultivating God.' Help me to know You first, and then out of the overflow of that growing knowledge can come whatever ministry You choose to bless me with. Amen."

Take Time to Be Holy (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/TakeTime.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy:
for I am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 20:7

Author:  William D. Longstaff, 1822-1894
Musician:  George C. Stebbins, 1846-1945

Take time to be holy,
Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always,
And feed on His Word.
Make friends of God's children;
Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing
His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy,
The world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret
With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus,
Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct
His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy,
Let Him be thy Guide,
And run not before Him,
Whatever betide;
In joy or in sorrow,
Still follow thy Lord,
And, looking to Jesus,
Still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy,
Be calm in thy soul;
Each thought and each motive
Beneath His control;
Thus led by His Spirit
To fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted
For service above.

well, praise the Lord for his goodness.its colder here today and expecting snow tonite.
I am off to visit two friends who are sick today.
To share one another's burdens and pray together is so great a need.  So many people are lonely and need a caring friend to help them .
The devotional was another eye opener today-thanks Pat for your choice of devotional today I have to agree with this part of the devotional-
Quote"If the spirit of prayer departs, it is a sure indication of a backslidden heart, for while the first love of a Christian continues he is sure to be drawn by the Holy Spirit to wrestle much in prayer."

hoping you all have a great day

Pat, thanks for the devotional.  I appreciate all of those who contribute to this feature of CP each day.

It seems like time is going by faster all the time.  One week from today will be already the first of February.  I have a number of things to get done before the end of January.  It seems there is always one more thing and we never get through.  But whatever the rush of each day we should put God first.  We only have so much time left.  The time will come when we will be able to rest.

Eph 5:15-16  See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  (NKJ)

Rev 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them." (NIV)

God bless you all on this day.

Good Morning: Thank you for the doevotional this morning Pat.

Papa John it seems that there is so much I want to do and time is fleeting on by. I need to get out in the front yard and weed the flower garden and get others planted. I need to mow the back as it had grown so much since I moved here last September and I have only been able to get out there with the weed eater one time. I don't have lawn mower so will have to borrow one from the neighbors. I want to get some of my potted plants  set out in the garden area out front and around the house. I collected those plants for that purpose long before I ever moved. I want to get a place dug up to sent out a few veggies for my own use. I still have stuff to unpack plus organise my china  cabinet, the stuff is all Hodge podge in there I have been here five months and none of this has been done. Oh Well I suppose it Will all get done in time.

Hi everyone,

Papa John, I agree with you about there always being something else that needs to be done and I am grateful for that being the case.  I always look forward to each day, as I am sure you do.  Of course, I don't want too many things to do each day.  :)

I have to leave in a few minutes to drop Pat off at the church and then go to downtown Atlanta to have my pacemaker/defibulator checked.  This is just a routine check that I will have to do every 3 months for a couple of years at least.  I am also participating in some type of research project with the device and they take readings for the experiment.  They just use a little wand that they place over the device and the computer reads all the information.  Technology is really something.

It was chilly this morning and windy but the sun is out.

My son brought over the treadmill yesterday and I did a 5 minute walk the first time and then right before I retired for the night I walked again but was only able to go 4 minutes before the pain started.

Janet, glad to see that things are looking up for Beth and you all.  It is amazing the difference a night can make in a situation and our approach to it.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Time to leave.

We have had one of the windiest winters known for Indiana.  The wind last night was fierce.  Lots of little limbs in the yard when I took the trash this morning.  Even my little flag was blown off but landed in a corner by the steps and deck.  I can't imagine what March Winds will be like!

I went with Ivalou and her church group out to eat yesterday.  Very enjoyable.  Lots of fun.

Not much planned for today other that looking ahead to what all I need to do before Euchere Club in February!  Lots to do.

Janet, know that I am praying for you, Beth and Darrel.  God Bless You All.

Good Morning Everyone...

If I hurry and post this it will still be morning!  :lol:

I was just going to sit and read over the posts but Geordie is barking furiously outside at something so I must get up the stairs and see what that is.

I'll be back.

Like Pat, if I really hurry, it won't be too late to say good morning!  But some of you are ahead of me, timewise, so good afternoon to you!

My joy is back, and I'm praising our wonderful God today.... :) :) :)  Beth is feeling a lot better; was up in a recliner this morning, smiling a lot.  She says she has no pain now, and I KNOW that is because of all your prayers in her behalf.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Dr. P came in while I was there and unwrapped some of her wounds, so I got to see how they look now.  He said "You get the biggest blister award."  She has a blister on her shin that is probably 3/4 inch high, two inches across and 5 inches long!   :o  But he said they looked "healthy" and no signs of infection.  He ordered for her to be put in swing bed, which only means that Medicare will kick in and pay for a longer stay in the hospital.

Beth said "Mom, I think this might be a blessing in disguise.  LOOK!!  I can move my left foot!"  and she demonstrated that fact.  That's the foot she hasn't been able to move in months!!  She said maybe that woke up the nerves in it, and I said that was a pretty painful wake-up call!  But she said the pain is worth it, if she can regain some of her mobility because of it.  One thing about Beth, she does keep a positive attitude, and never (rarely) feels sorry for herself.  And I believe that is what has brought her through all the many trials she has had.  Praise the Lord!!

I have a BIG crockpot full of vegetable soup cooking.  Yum!  And I used to not like soups much at all.........especially if they didn't have lots of meat in them.  I'm changing, and along with that change in eating, the pounds keep melting off.  I'm at my lowest weight in years.

It's a wonderful day, I feel so optimistic and full of praise!!  Thank you for including me in your prayers, and may I ask you to please continue?  THANKS!!

I need to clean house, run more errands, get my drawings ready for my upcoming class, and I promised Beth I will bring her dog Mieka in for a visit.  Dr. Plumlee has okayed that, as he knows Mieka is Beth's "four legged baby."  ;) ;D

See you wonderful folks later!

MORNING

       "I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, and the
       praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord hath
       bestowed on us."
              -- Isaiah 63:7

And canst thou not do this? Are there no mercies which thou hast
experienced? What though thou art gloomy now, canst thou forget that
blessed hour when Jesus met thee, and said, "Come unto me"? Canst thou
not remember that rapturous moment when he snapped thy fetters, dashed
thy chains to the earth, and said, "I came to break thy bonds and set
thee free"? Or if the love of thine espousals be forgotten, there must
surely be some precious milestone along the road of life not quite
grown over with moss, on which thou canst read a happy memorial of his
mercy towards thee? What, didst thou never have a sickness like that
which thou art suffering now, and did he not restore thee? Wert thou
never poor before, and did he not supply thy wants? Wast thou never in
straits before, and did he not deliver thee? Arise, go to the river of
thine experience, and pull up a few bulrushes, and plait them into an
ark, wherein thine infant- faith may float safely on the stream. Forget
not what thy God has done for thee; turn over the book of thy
remembrance, and consider the days of old. Canst thou not remember the
hill Mizar? Did the Lord never meet with thee at Hermon? Hast thou
never climbed the Delectable Mountains? Hast thou never been helped in
time of need? Nay, I know thou hast. Go back, then, a little way to the
choice mercies of yesterday, and though all may be dark now, light up
the lamps of the past, they shall glitter through the darkness, and
thou shalt trust in the Lord till the day break and the shadows flee
away. "Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses,
for they have been ever of old."

Hi Pat, how's it going.   Cold today.   All my students are complaining about the weather.   I said I have no problem with the cold.

Hello everyone.

I have read everyone's posts but can't remember much (cause I'm tired) so won't reply individually.

I wasn't supposed to be at work today until 10am so stayed up last night to have a brief chat and glass of milk with other half when he came home from work.  So it was about 2am when I went to bed.  Shouldn't have been a problem.....except the girl who was to have been at work for 8:30 called in sick.  The supervisor couldn't get anyone to cover the shift so called me and asked if I would come in early and that she would cover part/all of my original shift.  She managed to cover all of my shift so although I lost two hours pay, the nap I had when I got home was worth it.  Now must get busy and get some banking done, just resumes out and some housework done before sitting down and relaxing for the evening.
