Well, I'm happy to be #1 here today!  I received an email from my sister that she made it home safely today.  She also sent the photo she took of me when we met for breakfast on Friday.  I am so happy to be able to connect with family if only for a brief moment in time.  God is good ... all the time!

Y'all take care and I'll be back as soon as I can  come up with something to add to the conversation here.

Great Devotional and great links, Pat, I love that picture of the train tracks, and the story from hugsandsmiles is just great! Now, polygamy, what is that guy thinking  ??? Wonder if he ever read the Bible  :o

My computer won't play the creation moments. :(
I'm sooo tired, but can't fall asleep. I had planned on trying sleeping pills tonight because I have to be up early tomorrow, but I was so tired I figured I'd fall right asleepl Obviously didn't happen, and now I'm afraid to take the pills since it's so late!
It's a beautiful misty night though, so maybe I'll go sit outside a bit and see if that helps!

Good morning, I'm scurrying around this morning to get packed before going to work. I'll be away the remainder of the week to take care of my children in Atlanta. Please pray that my daughter in law's back surgery tomorrow morning will provide healing for her.

Janet, I'll be praying about Beth's surgery, as well.

May each person in the medical field who works with our loved ones be blessed with wisdom and insight far beyond their own skills and may they receive a blessing as they minister to our children and as we interact with them.

I'm thinking of the song, "Let the Beauty of Jesus Be Seen in Me." How appropriate for each of us to follow the words of this song.

Y'all have a good week.

Ruth Ann

I'm home for a few hours.  Beth, Diane and I were in Boise City all day yesterday making funeral arrangements.  So many things to decide---Diane was on the phone with the other siblings, getting their input; but some things had to be decided immediately.  Gunther had never remarried, and we had remained friends all these years, so it seemed natural for me to help the girls with this.  Gunther usually came and spent Christmas with Darrel and me and the kids, and we talked often on the phone.  I have always cared for him, nothing ever changed that.  Anyway.........I have tons of stuff to do today, tying up loose ends and packing for a stay of at least four days in Amarillo....hope I don't forget anything vital!

The funeral will be at 10:30 Wed. morning, then after lunch, we will head to Amarillo with Beth.  She has to be at the doctor's office before 5 PM.  Her surgery is still to be on Thurs. AM at 8:00.  We planned the funeral quicker than normally because Beth's surgery cannot be postponed.

I will try to get back here at least once before I leave, but cannot promise.

Good Morning:  Pat you just had to make me cry didn't you? I have read that story before about the box, it was in the email going around a couple of years ago. It made me cry then and it made me cry again today.

That polygamy story, well I knew there were a lot of polygamists and I am sure there are many more that the 30,00 estimated there. There are many communities that remain unknown to this day.

Pat, I also wanted to let you know that you are welcome to snag the Dog Welcome graphic that I posted last night if you want to.
Janet and Ruth Ann I am praying for your children.

Fay is going to see the surgeon agan today for a check up on how her incision is healing. I don't take her to the Doctor someone else does But I have to get her ready. While she is gone I am going to the gym, I need to get back on the treadmill since I have slacked off for over a week now. o I will return to you all later.

God's great blessings be upon you, Beth!  I pray He'll give you comfort and confidence in His wonderfully caring Hand upon you.

Pat - thanks for the hymn, "Jesus, I am resting...."  We used to sing that in Intervarsity and also at our church at the time - which used the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Hymnal.  I still use it here at home and also carry two copies in the car (just in case I feel like singing to the road!).

It was nice to see that someone new came by. I do pray that more of you will come by & visit us there. You never now you just might see something that you might like to try as for a recipe all you need to do is PM the person that left the post &
I'm sure that they could share it with you.

So our weather is looking good 30's today with clouds. But, still it will be nice to have some of this snow melt off. As we all know that next week on Wednesday is ground hog day so we will have to wait & see what happens with that little ground hog & the big question is * will he see his shadow or will he not see his shadow * so I guess we will have to wait & see what next week will bring. I've gone on long enough so I'd better get over to the kitchen & get the menu posted so take care & I hope to see you more of you come by.

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful day here in Georgia and not so cold today.  I think my schedule is pretty clear as don't have any meetings or commitments so should have time to work on several projects.

Fine devotional this morning Pat.  Thanks.

Beth and Janet, I am certainly keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.  This is certainly a full week for you all and I understand the surreal feeling that one has when we have to go through making arrangements.

Learned of a funny thing yesterday.  Each morning I pick up a friend, who can no longer drive, and take him to coffee.  On Saturday as I returned him to his house and we were chatting before he got out of the car, we noticed his next door neighbor back out her car and leave and almost immediately she returned and shut down the garage door.  We thought that was rather strange but that she had probably just forgotten something.  It turns out when she saw our car and us sitting in it she became alarmed and came back and called my friends wife saying "there are two old men sitting in a silver car outside your house and I am afraid they may be casing it".  Of course, my friends wife knew it was just her husband and I having returned from coffee and set her straight.  Guess we never know how others are going to react to us.  Needless to say we had a good laugh from it.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Good morning all.

Jane!!!!  ~ Wow!  You are right!  The new you is looking goooood!

Janet and Beth ~ My love goes out to you in the coming week.  God bless you.

Larry ~ At least your friend knows that his neighbor is watchful and if anything does look suspicious, she will report it.  Bet you all had a good laugh.

Small groups was awesome last night.  We had one lady that let it be known that her grandmother died of Huntington's Disease and her mother has Huntington's Disease.  It is a disease that is similar to Parkinson's but Huntington's destroys the nerves.  It is inherited.  From what the web shows, if you have Huntington's, you have a parent with Huntington's and when a child is born from one parent with the disease, he/she has 50% chance of having it also.  You can be tested to see if you have the disease which doesn't show signs until after 40 years of age.  This lady hasn't been tested yet and she is past 40.  Seems she didn't even know about her mother or grandmother having it until a couple of years ago.  Some aunts and uncles have it along with cousins.  It is just something that the family doesn't talk about for some reason or other.  L is fearful of finding out that she has the disease as well as feeling guilty if she doesn't have it since so many in the family does have it.  We laid hands upon her in prayer and told her that if she decides to get tested we will form a caravan to Indiana University Medical Center so she can be tested.  She is the lady that her husband and her adopted a little girl from Russia.  Stacia will be 3 next month.  She is fearful that she won't see her married and with children.  So many things going on with L at this time.

I do believe it is going to get above freezing today.  I took some food out for Stray Cat and God bless him, his door to the carrier was shut and he was sitting on the door mat outside all night.  I decided to take the door off the carrier so he can always get in there.  He ate a whole cup of food yesterday.  At least, he has an appetite.

Etta Sue, I don't know how watchful that neighbor really is as we have been following the same routine about 5 days a week for many months now.  I certainly was not offended because certainly much better to be safe than sorry and she was being a good neighbor.  Just glad she hadn't called the police.

Good morning, all.

Warming up here -- almost 40 now.

Janet and Beth -- what a week.  surreal is probably the best word to describe situations like this.  You are still in our prayers.

Larry -- I agree with etta, at least you know someone is looking out for you.  hahahahahahhahahahahaha  The police showing up would have been hilarious, at some point.

Trav seems to have picked up a bug from some of ya'll. :-)  He looked pale Sunday and yesterday, and today, on the way to the library for story time, he threw up.  :-(  He says he feels fine, doesn't seem ot have a lot of a fever, if any, but he's satisfied right now to sit on the bed and look at books and stuff -- definitely not being active.   So, . . ..   that's the fun stuff at the Shuford house today.

I hope each of you has a wonderful day.

I'm breezing past in the midst of doing laundry, packing, making calls, hunting up photos, and trying to think what I might need for being away from home for nearly a week!  Whew!

Larry, thank you for your kind words.  Yes, I am feeling the loss, as this man was a part of my life for almost 50 years, and for over 14 of those, he was a GREAT part of my life.  I'm the type of person who holds up well in crises, then when everything is over, I may have time to "fall apart."  Everything does feel very surreal just now, but the reality will come, sooner or later.

Thank you all for praying.  It means more than words can convey.

The mortician told us that Gunther died of either a massive heart attack or a massive stroke, and he believes it was a stroke.  He didn't struggle at all, and they think death was instantaneous, so that is a comfort, at least.  The girls really wanted an answer, because he had been feeling so much better during this last week.

Darrel says come and eat..........so here I go!

Thank you Carrie, Bob, and everyone who is praying for us.  Yes, the prayers are a great support.  I'm not sure how anyone makes it through the tough times without the Lord, and the support of wonderful friends.  God bless each of you.

We are leaving in a couple of hours to go to the flower service.  Back home tonight, leave again early in the morning for the funeral, then after the dinner (lunch) we will go on to Amarillo.  So I willl be away from my computer for some days.  I will check in if I have an opportunity, though, and will try to get word to Pat about Beth so she can post here, and you can continue to pray specifically.  Thanks so much.

Personal Life: People Are What They Think About

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of
life.
--Proverbs 4:23

Every person is really what he or she secretly admires. If I can learn
what you admire, I will know what you are, for people are what they
think about when they are free to think about what they will.

Now, there are times when we are forced to think about things that we
do not care to think about at all. All of us have to think about
income taxes, but income taxes are not what we want to think about.
The law makes us think about them every April. You may find me humped
over Form 1040, just like everyone else, but that is not the real me.
It is really the man with the tall hat and the spangled stars in
Washington who says, "You can't let it go any longer!" I assure you it
is not consentingly done! But if you can find what I think about when
I am free to think about whatever I will, you will find the real me.
That is true of every one of us.

Your baptism and your confirmation and your name on the church roll
and the big Bible you carry--these are not the things that are
important to God. You can train a chimpanzee to carry a Bible. Every
one of us is the sum of what we secretly admire, what we think about
and what we would like to do most if we became free to do what we
wanted to do.  Faith Beyond Reason, 96.

"Lord, You know the secret thoughts of my heart; nothing is hidden
from You. May those thoughts be pure thoughts, pleasing to You,
completely under the control of Your Holy Spirit. Amen."

Hey there Janet, I pray everything goes smoothly for you and the girls.

Today has been a day of tests...the girls and I all had placement tests...theirs for their new school and mine was for college. I won't find out about how the girls did until Thursday, but do know that the oldest must be doing very very well as she didn't have time to finish her work! How long the test takes depends on how high of a level you're at, and she kept going in math so that's all she did today. That's my baby!  ;D

My testing went well, I got the results right away and am glad to find out that I won't have to take a lot of the requirements as I'm already past them. Woo hoo! That saves a lot of money by taking approx. a year off the normal time it would take to get my degree. Kinda scary...didn't know I had it in me.

Hello Everyone...

I'm so sorry I've been away from the site for a long time today.  I had unexpected company and got involved in sorting some of Jack's old papers and that's certainly a difficult job.  I found an old shopping list he had written and normally I'd just toss something like that but how precious it is now to me.

Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with both Janet and Ruth Ann as they see their girls go through surgery.

Larry, I laughed out loud when I read about your friend's neighbour!  LOL

I'll be back a little later, everyone.

Thanks Chris for that great devotional from Dr. Tozer.  What a wise man he was!

We just got home again, and will have to leave here by 7 in the morning.  The flower service was nice, and the girls got the pictures they wanted put up on a magnetic board, and set on a table at the church.  The grandsons will be pall bearers, and the two granddaughters will be flower girls.

The kids had another grueling day, dealing with people in the courthouse who insist that the deeds for the plots where their dad's parents are buried were never registered!  And they will not let them bury their Dad beside his parents because of this.  They couldn't find the deed, so what can they do?  My sister is buried in that cemetery, and we bought four plots at that time, so he will be buried there by her.  They did find deeds to other properties they didn't know he owned.  Lots and lots to sort through, because of his business and interests.  It is going to take a while.

I will check back in whenever I get a chance.  It looks as if three of Beth's siblings are going to go to Amarillo to support her on Thursday while she goes through her surgery.  God is good.
