Morning Devotional...

All things are possible to him that believeth.
Mark 9:23

The years seem as though they are flying in, yet some days last forever! Do you know the feeling? Recently, I watched as my eldest son received his 6th year graduation certificate. He is now leaving school, yet it seems like only last week that we took him by the hand for his first day in Primary.

Each new day has its difficulties and hurdles and when waiting upon the Lord for Him to fulfil certain promises, the hurdles just get higher!

As Christians we should be reconciled with the fact that we are at war. There will be battles to be fought and enemies to be overcome and we should not be surprised when new trials come our way. We have not been promised an easy ride. What we have been promised is that God is on our side. If we were to lean upon Him as we ought, our way would be smoother and our paths plainer.

I have failed many times through impatience, doubts, fears and not a little frustration, yet still my God abides faithful. Why does He put up with me? Why can I not simply learn a lesson and pass on to the next one without making the same errors over and over again? The desire to serve the Lord with passion and with zeal has not altered, yet I am no nearer reaching that goal today than I was 5 or 15 years ago!

I could easily wallow in self-pity and even depression if I constantly viewed my failings, but I don't. I realise that I am a sinner and that I am in constant need of a Saviour. I am thankful today that I NEED Him. If my life ran smoothly without any testing then there is no doubt in my mind that I would backslide straight to the gutters once more.

He sends trials and testing with love. They are for our eternal benefit and for the welfare of His Church at large. Often we fear that He tests us beyond what we are able to bear, yet still we go on. Hitherto has He helped us and not once has He failed us. The Lord is always good to us, yet all too often we think harsh and unkind thoughts against Him.

Such thoughts are from the pit and should not be given any room to fester in our minds. Away with them! It is our blurred vision that is the root cause of the way we view our trials. We are wrong, our thinking is wrong and God is always right! If you do not believe me on this point then I am sure that He will prove it to you Himself in time.

Trials are hard there is no question about that. Life can seem like endless misery for many, especially when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.

Trials do not last forever though often we think that they do. Things change daily though we may not have the vision to see these changes. Do not give up hope my friend, God does not take days off. He is constantly working out His purposes and no enemy can thwart Him.

I have often found that He will use a brother or sister to speak a good word at just the right time for my soul. This I have proved will be enough to keep me going until He sends the next token of His love. He could leave us without any such favour, yet that is not His way.

Today I am content and I have a great measure of peace in my soul. I am reconciled to whatever the Lord has in store for me. There seems to be no point in surrendering my way to Him each day then complaining when I do not like the way things turn out. Love should be everything or not at all. Let me be absolutely content to be clay today in the hands of the Potter.

All things are possible to him that believeth. Mr Spurgeon once said, 'the easiest way to believe is to believe!' Do not try and tell anyone who is 'trying' to believe to believe as they will find it impossible to do. Tell them instead to stop trying! The total surrender of all that we are into the loving arms of the Good Shepherd brings peace even in the midst of chaos! May you find such peace for your own soul today.

We've had a very sad happening on Jan. 17.

A plane crashed in our area of Ontario.  The most southerly point in Canada is a small island in Lake Erie--Pelee Island and people live on it.  During the winter, the only way to get from the island to the mainland or to Windsor (across the river from Detroit) is by plane.

Well, on Jan. 17, the plane crashed with 10 on board and they can't get to the bodies or much of the wreckage due to the flowing ice and the weather and now tomorrow, we're expecting one of the worst winter storms.

The poor families of the lost passengers are all in the area of the wreckage.  Let's pray for them.  One or maybe two were police officers who were on the island hunting.

Here's an article on it from today's news...

Slow progress made on plane recovery (http://www.canada.com/hamilton/story.asp?id=B61ECD72-FDFC-457B-81D3-4B4A7B9F4482)

9.50 a.m.England.

Oh Pat. I will pray for the families who lost their loved ones in that dreadful plane crash.
I was thinking the other day how in Canada and U.S. much travel has to be by plane due to the huge area expanses., and how trying this must be for folks who need to go long distances to see their loved ones or for business reasons.

Iain How lovely to see you this morning brother.Thank you this devotional suits me fine today dear one. Prayers and blessings sent to you.

He sends Trials and Testings....With Love.

Thanks Iain, I hope I may see this and know that as these difficulties arise, My God is there "loving" me through it all. His arms were opened wide for me on the Cross after all..

Love to all.
Jenny.

I get to be on page one this morning!  I just skimmed through the posts this morning, and will come back and read thoroughly later.  I am still playing "catch up" here.  I have some framing I must finish today!

It looks like we have an inch or two of the white stuff today, and it is much colder.  I am so sorry to hear of the plane crash and the terrible conditions of the weather preventing the search for bodies.  How sad.

I look a real mess!  It seems I got up close and personal with a little sea wasp.  That's a small jellyfish, very toxic; and I must have swam right into it, as I have blisters, sores and swelling all around my mouth and on my lips.  It looks awful, and feels even worse.  I never saw it, but that was the opinion of the "experts" at the resort.  I think it probably happened on the night dive, as it got bad the next day.  It will heal, but in the meantime----I am avoiding being seen, whenever possible!

Off to make some coffee!

OH!  I looked at the rest of the photos last night, and the digital ones are almost all good! :) ;) :D ;D  So, as soon as I get caught up a little, I can show you Roatan! ;D

Oh Father, I pray for those families who are waiting with such anguish at the crash site.  I pray particularly that You will use this awful occasion to make them aware of the shortness of life and the necessity of repentance and faith.  Oh let this trajedy mark the beginning of new life for some of these people!  Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Good morning, folks.

Pat, that is very sad news about the plane crash.  I will keep the families in my prayers.

Iain~thank you for the devotion.  I was just talking to my brother yesterday and he is feeling a bit like this.  I will print this out and send it to him.  I am sure it will be of some comfort to him.  (((hug)))

Janet~I am sorry some of your pictures didn't turn out.  I like your attitude "I guess I will chalk it up to experience.  Or lack of........."

I have so much to do today.  I probably won't be online much after 10:00am.  I will be thinking of you all.

I just got through watching the coolest movie.  "Remembering the Titons"   It is the best show I have seen in a while. No cusing. Now that is hard to come by these days.  My son Troy recommended it.  It actually got me jumping off the couch and also crying.

You got to rent it!

I thought this would go well with Iain's devotion today.

Psalms 103:8-10
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever,
he doesn not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

My son Chris loves the film "Clash of the
Titans" and he's 31.  It's his fav.  Must tell him about this one.

Cold here now...3deg below and the weather forecast is that it's going to get colder as it's a "front" from America and Canada.  Thanks for sharing folks.

See you all later.  Must finish this cup of tea and see if the washing is frozen to the clothes line...Ha Ha![/color]

Carol ~ God is so good.  Winter storm warnings were posted for the past weekend.  Jerry and I went to church.  I worked the lights...such a great feeling working for God.  We went to El Rodeo for lunch.  Then I drove the 25 miles to get home.  We came in the house.  I changed out of my Sunday clothes and Jerry said, 'Look outside!'.  I did.  I couldn't see the trees at Ivalou's house, it was snowing so hard.  God waited for us to get home.  God is so good!

Janet ~ Isn't it great to be back home?  There is no place like home...in this world, at least.  Sorry about your problems that arose while you were gone.  Curtis will have your PC before you know it.  Hope your mouth & lips heals quickly from the sea wasp!  Is it painful?  Sounds awful!

Pat ~ Thanks for letting us know about the plane crash.  When I hear of accidents like this and not finding the bodies, I think of the loved ones that needs closure to go on.  I am praying that all involved or close to these people find peace of mind.

Since I had to work both services yesterday, Jerry and I didn't get to listen to Danny, the youth minister, at his service.  They have "The Bridge" the first and third Sundays.  It is becoming a large turnout.  Danny is young...expecting their first child in June...we even saw the ultra-sound on the overhead last week.  He has a powerful way of drawing you into his sermons.  Anyway, I got a tape of his sermon and Jerry and I listened on the way home.  Both ministers were talking about money.  Danny was saying that when he learned to drive and then going to seminary college, he drove an old car.  Some of the other kids drove nice new cars.  But they didn't get to go to extra-curricular functions.  Why?  Because they had to work!  They had to work to pay payments for their car.  They had to work to pay insurance on their new car.  They had to work to buy gas for their new car....so they could go to work!!!!!!!!  LET THE OLD PEOPLE WORK!!!!  Get an old car so you can enjoy your youth!!!!  Also parents should teach their kids responsibility about money.  Get some envelopes.  You get $20 allowance.  $2 goes in the envelope for God.  $2 goes into the envelope for saving.  The rest you can spend.  But those two envelopes are filled first!!!  You earn money.  With that money, you can spend it, save it or give it away.  Anyway, it was a powerful message for young and old!!!

We have white stuff on the ground.  I don't know what the temperature is but only know that I plan to stay inside today!  The ground is covered but I don't think we had much snow.  Maybe a few inches of the white stuff!!!

If you click on the Photos, that's ICE all around that ship!

And this is sad too.  When my mother passed away, my father and I had spent most of the last three weeks of her life in the hospital with her and after the funeral we felt that we had to get away for a complete change.  We went down east and were not far from this area.  We were amazed to learn that the fishermen went out in all weather and here we learn of four missing...

Bernard adn I have that movie waiting for us to watch it.  We were going to watchit last night, but were just too tired.  Maybe this evening or tomorrow.

Miserable weather here right now.  Cold and snowy and icy.  East of here had it worse, though.  We have an unbelievably thick fog here right now.  Very little visibility.

Sporadic internet connection (I guess 'cause of hte ice), so if you don't see me 'round, that's probably why.

Hi everyone and a special welcome to Helen.  Thanks for joining with us.  Tell your boys you want your share of computer time.   ;D

It is below freezing here and we are under an icing advisory until 6 pm.  They have had ice north and east of us and a lot of the schools are out today.  However, our county has not been hit yet and hopefully won't be.

Think I finally have my wife's computer running smoothly and it is much faster than it was.  I also was able to get her wireless keyboard and mouse working properly this morning.  She hadn't used it for a couple of weeks as one morning it lost its ability to function and you can't do much on a computer without a keyboard or mouse.  It really need the Windows 2000 or XP to work properly.

Today was the day for the housekeepers and they were here all morning.  Then we usually go to the cafe for lunch on housekeeping day so we don't immediately mess up the sparkling kitchen.  However, it was really chilly up there so we didn't dilly dally.

I have a Worship Committee meeting to attend this evening.  It will be my first time to attend as just agreed to serve on the committee last month.

Janet, sorry to hear of the blisters as sure that is very uncomfortable.  On you speakers, have you checked the volume control to be sure it hasn't ended up muted for the output.  On my computer if I double click the little speaker icon in the task bar it brings up that screen.  Glad everything else seems to be working well.

Liz, sorry to see that you have been ill the last couple of days.  Do hope today finds you better.

Karma, we will have to get that movie and view it.  Not too often you here someone recommend a movie.

Pat, a plane crash is such a terrible thing and then not to be able to recover the remains just compounds the tragedy.  Also, thanks for sharing Iain's devotional thoughts with us today.

Etta Sue, sure glad you got home before the snow started.  Yesterday in his sermon our youth minister told of the experience he and his family had over Christmas.  They had gone to Colorado to ski as had been offered free housing for the week.  While there they had a great time on the slopes but had a really tough time getting to the resort and then especially getting back to the airport to return home.  The point of his telling of these events was that he spoke on angels and used the many occasions they had on this trip where people helped them at every point where they had problems.  The story is too long to relate here but it was quite a story of how he believed God was using people as angels to help them.  It caused me to think of how often that has happened to me as well and I never really thought of it in that regard before.

Marilyn, I hope by the time you read this you will have seen the chiropractor and will be feeling much better.

Carol, I don't think the car my daughter has is a lemon it is just that she has put so many miles on it and as the mileage gets higher the more maintenace is required.  Unfortunately all the expense is mine as she doesn't work now as is going to school and the car belongs to my wife and I.  She is driving it today and hopefully it won't stop on her again.  She has my cell phone with her and we have AAA so if she has problems again she can call for help.

Judy, about 5 pm yesterday Pat started to feel better and seems to be ok today.  This is not an unusual situation for folks with fibromyalgia.

I am late today getting started on things I want to do including doing my devotional time and Bible reading.  I like to do this first thing in the mornings but wasn't able to do so this morning.

Wonderful devotional Iain...especially helpful today.

This has certainly been an invigorating morning.  Woke up feeling better and found Wendy is very ill.  Her immune system is so weak that any cold, etc. becomes a real problem.  She took Amanda to school, then I went up with coffee and toast as she had to return to bed.   Got that done and promised to prepare an early dinner for Ralph & Amanda...then Mr. P.  the cat, threw up on the rug.  Got that cleaned up.  Washed all her many floors upstairs, made Amanda's bed, looked out her window and saw the recyle bag empty and all sorts of garbage scattered about the lawn.  Must have been a dog that visited before the truck came!  Picked that up ( with considerable mutterings) and now am hoping for a somewhat more peaceful day?????

Read my 'Daily Bread' and it was also most appropriate for the morning:

Lord, when I sense Your call to serve,
Help me to follow through,
I must not just stand by and pray
When there is work to do.
      - Fasick

Do believe that both Iain and Daily Bread were right on target for this person.

Sorry to hear about the plane crash.  Wendy &  Ralph lost their dearest buddy a few years ago.  His plane crashed just outside of Whistler. I dearly loved Brian and also felt the loss.  He was about to visit them and then go on one of his many adventures around the world.  Planes can be wonderful or deadly.  The thing is Brian seemed to be seeking God when this happened....Guess only God has the answers.

Will check back and  spend time here tonight.  Must go now and make some hot soup for Wendy and check on the cat.  Have him in the Laundry room where he sleeps at night.  Don't quite trust him being alone upstairs until Amanda returns.  Goodness, had forgotten that family life could prove so interesting.

God Bless.  Liz

Hi Everyone!

Wow!  We're under a huge SNOW ADVISORY all over our province.

I went out to pick up a few staples (food) this morning as I just don't know when I'll get out again if digging is needed due to my shoulder.  I will hope that one of the kids comes and helps with it but they are so busy and in their own towns.

We should have well over a foot by the end of tonight.

I'll talk to you later.  Phone's ringing.

MASTER, THE TEMPEST IS RAGING (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/master_the_tempest_is_raging.mid)[/u]
(Click to hear music)

Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o'ershadowed with blackness,
No shelter or help is nigh;
Carest Thou not that we perish?
How canst Thou lie asleep,
When each moment so madly is threatening
A grave in the angry deep?

Refrain
The winds and the waves obey Thy will,
Peace, be still!
Whether the wrath of the storm tossed sea,
Or demons or men, or whatever it be
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean, and earth, and skies;
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will,
Peace, be still! Peace, be still!
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will,
Peace, peace, be still!

Master, with anguish of spirit
I bow in my grief today;
The depths of my sad heart are troubled
Oh, waken and save, I pray!
Torrents of sin and of anguish
Sweep o'er my sinking soul;
And I perish! I perish! dear Master
Oh, hasten, and take control.

Refrain

Master, the terror is over,
The elements sweetly rest;
Earth's sun in the calm lake is mirrored,
And heaven's within my breast;
Linger, O blessèd Redeemer!
Leave me alone no more;
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor,
And rest on the blissful shore.

Refrain

Pat those are lovely words for us all at the moment .

I will pray for you during this time.  I am so glad you managed to stock up the cupboards. I hope you put plenty of tea on the shelves.

I have some reading to do now so I will close for tonight.

Speak again tomorrow. d.v.

God Bless all.
Love Jenny

January 26 - THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand" (John 10:28-29).

What rich blessings Christ promises to those who "hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (v.27). To think that the omnipotent Creator knows us, and gives us eternal life! He is certainly powerful enough to see that this life is in no danger, either from our own weaknesses ("they shall never perish") or from the enemy without ("pluck them out"). Temporary eternal life simply cannot be. The eternal life which He gives lasts for eternity.
Actually, the promise "they shall never perish" is very strong in the original Greek. A repeating negative precedes the word "perish," and the specific form of the word "never" literally includes "eternally," or "forever." A more complete rendering would then be, "they shall not, in no wise perish, no, not for eternity."

The word "man" is not in the original, and the word "any" is more properly translated "any one" or "any being." This includes Satan—no match for the Savior. He is powerless to pluck or snatch us from either the Father's or the Son's hands. How could we be any more secure?

Note that the Father gave us to His beloved Son as gifts of His love. In turn, Christ values these precious gifts so much that He holds us securely in His hand, so tightly that no created being can snatch us away. The Father even assists in providing us this security, for we are also in the "Father's hand," and "I and my Father are one" (v.30).

When we consider the size and strength of the Creator's hand, we can understand why no one, not even Satan, can snatch us out of its protective care. JDM

I'm here Marilyn...LOL - cold nights like this, I just want to cuddle under my electric bed warmer.  Its similar to a mattress cover, and I can adjust the heat.

The bedroom tends to be a chilly room, compared to the oter rooms, so I leave it on all day.

Glad you are feeling better, Marilyn.  Isn't that nice to have a Christian doctor.  Did you know that before your first visit with him?

I'm here too.  I'm getting ready to watch the news about the cold weather the east is having.

Here it's rainy and not too cold.   Please take care of yourselves and Pat, I'm glad you stocked up.  Hoping also if it gets too bad you can get the kids to come and do some shoveling.  Can they even get there if it gets really bad?   I'm praying for you all.

Welcome HELEN.  Your mum is a treasure here.  I think it would be great if you could post now and then and let us get to know you.  With three boys, I do already know something about you.  You are BUSY. :)  I was blessed to hear that your pain gone.  We will continue to pray for you too.

Marilyn,  I'm very happy to hear that your pain is less too. :)  Did he say what he thought caused it?  Was it the way you were sitting at the computer?  I asked because you were so detailed in what you must do and how your arm must be positioned.   I know I am terrible at sitting straight and keeping my arms situated correctly.  I have a swivel chair that leans back too, so sometimes I turn sideways, put my feet up on the window sill, and turn slightly to the computer.  now THAT can't be good my any of my parts. :)

Now to the news.  God bless everyone.

Looks like our cold snap may end tomorrow and bring with it a little snow Tuesday night and Wednesday.  If the storm coming up from the south takes the track that's expected we'll have only about 4 to 8 inches and if it veers in closer it could come to about a foot.   Nothing to worry about.  ;D

Yesterday at church we had testimonies from a couple of our young people who had attended  "Excel 2004" in Saratoga the weekend before - there were 1700 teenagers at this Christian youth shindig, five from our church and from what we were told the whole place just rocked the four days of the conference.

Where is everyone?  It is to quiet in here.

Hey!!!! Wake up folks!

We just got back from our swimming thing and Zachery was given a plaque for the first meet he was in.  It has a candy can on it and the different heats he did.  It is sooo cool.  He also got moved up to the highest level he can be on for his age.

Troy is heading to Buffalo Friday and Casper on Saturday.

I am going to go hang out with the kids for awhile. Just wanted to stop in and say hi and let you all know I am thinking of you all.

Hello all!  Still dreary, wet/sleety/snowy/freezing rainy here in Western North Carolina.  had an interesting weather thing today -- frozen fog.  It was bizarre.  I don't know if it was actually frozen, or if the weather just didn't allow it to lift/evaporate, or whatever it does.

Many more days like today, and I am moving to the Bahamas (and I like winter).

Got some shots of Travis playing outside yesterday.  Hopefully will have them up in  a minute or so.

take care!

WELCOME SHAWN AND ANY OTHERS I MAY HAEV MISSED

Nita: I was so detailed about how  was setting up my computer on this small desk because thats the way he said it should be. There was even a book in his waiting room about "Setting up you computer for dummies."

Nita sitting sideways at my computer in my swivel chair is what got me in this condition. Last year my monitor was to the left and here it has been to the right. Supposed to be directly in front of you. The doctor said that the kitchen table is the best place if you don't have a computer desk.

I would lean on my elbow when I was reading. My desk is just one of those small 3 drawer student desks.
I didn't know he was a Christian before I got there, but I had been praying that he would be.

Glad to see that all of you are here but it took y-all 3 hours to show up. That is a long time to be waiting for anybody.

Welcome to all the new members.  I can't keep track of everyone....

The day has ended on a more peaceful note.  Not every day that I get my day's exercise and fresh air before 10 A.M.  Dinner seemed to be a success since everything was consumed.  Chicken, Potatoes, Veg. and Salad...Choc. Mousse for dessert.

Made one fatal error along the way today.  Took food into the laundry room for 'that darn cat.'  Seems that is not wise as he scattered it all around...due to being somewhat annoyed with us!  While sweeping, searching under the dryer and washer and washing the floor, I had a little talk with Mr. P.  Told him about his need to be a better fellow and if he swatted me while I was down there...he would get a swat in return.  That is a favorite trick of his...to smack with his paw, and it is a powerful paw.  He is a smart cat and understands perfectly what we say....so he behaved!  I came out of the room with both my face and lower posterior intact.

Does anyone know anything about the movie 'Passion of Christ' made by Mel Gibson?  There seems to be quite a controversy raging.  Some Christians are supporting it, read Billy Graham is one.  Ricky Scaggs was strongly recommending it on CMT the other evening.  Curious to know what you folks know or think about the subject.  It is turning into quite a story.

Must write some long overdue e-mails to friends now.  Will come back to read again later tonight.
God Bless and pleasant dreams.  Liz

I have put in a full day of framing today, and haven't felt up to par, so now I'm really tired.  I did get all the underwater photos onto the computer, so as soon as I catch up a bit, I will work with those and post some of them.

A BIG WELCOME TO HELEN AND SHAWN!!  It's great to have you join us!!

I know I must get a lower shelf for my keyboard, too, as it really makes me hurt the way it is now.  We all need to take better care of our bodies, don't we?

I had errands I should have run today, but I never even left the house!!  So tomorrow I must do those.

I am going to get off here now and get into my pajamas!

Janet: you can put pillows in you chair to raise you up too if you can't lower your keyboard. I have 1 king size pillow folded in half and the another  pillow on top of that. If that makes you feet come off the floor put a brick or something about that size on the floor for your feet.

LIZ:  Focus On The Family: www.fotf.org has some info on "The Passion"  Enter in search: The Passion and up will come the info.

Also type: The Passion in a search engine and the movie has a website:  www.thepassion.com/main.html
(This site has a slide show and short clips from the movie.)

There is also an email, supposedly from Paul Harvey (The rest of the story) I had it, but no more.

It has been rated "R"...our pastor went to a preview in Chicago last weekend and said that the audience sat in stunned silence at the end and nary a dry eye in the place.

It is to be out on Feb 25th.
