What Is Eternal Life?

John 17:3.
  "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent."

According to our Lord, the two prominent characteristics of people who have eternal life are a true and deep awareness of the one true God and a similar deep awareness of the only Savior Whom He has sent.  To such persons, the one true God is the God of the Scriptures, the holy and truly awesome Majesty Who made Himself known to Israel in the most holy place between lthe cherubim of the tabernacle and temple.  He's the One of Whom Solomon spoke when he said that "the fear (deep and abiding reverence) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

The other prominent characteristic of those who have eternal life is a deep and abiding sense of their need before the holy God and of their need being totally met by the Savior God has sent.  They've become aware of their sin and of the welcome extended to them by the One Who said, "He that comes to Me I will in no way cast out!" (John 6:17)

Do you know your sin against a holy and just God?  And do you know a wonderful, welcoming Savior Who can make you acceptable even to such a God?  Then (and ONLY THEN) you even now have eternal life!

Beneath the Cross of Jesus  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/beneath-the-cross-of-jesus.mid)
(Click to hear music)

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Galatians 6:14

Words: Elizabeth C. Clephane, 1868; published posthumously in the Family Treasury, a Scottish Presbyterian magazine, in 1872, titled "Breathing on the Border." The magazine's editor, W. Arnot, wrote: These lines express the experiences, the hopes and the longings of a young Christian lately released. Written on the very edge of life, with the better land fully in view of faith, they seem to us footsteps printed on the sands of time, where these sands touch the ocean of Eternity. These footprints of one whom the Good Shepherd led through the wilderness into rest, may, with God's blessing, contribute to comfort and direct succeeding pilgrims.

Music: "St. Christopher," Frederick C. Maker, in the Bristol Tune Book, 1881

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.

O safe and happy shelter, O refuge tried and sweet,
O trysting place where Heaven's love and Heaven's justice meet!
As to the holy patriarch that wondrous dream was given,
So seems my Savior's cross to me, a ladder up to heaven.

There lies beneath its shadow but on the further side
The darkness of an awful grave that gapes both deep and wide
And there between us stands the cross two arms outstretched to save
A watchman set to guard the way from that eternal grave.

Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me;
And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess;
The wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

I Am Resolved  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/i-am-resolved.mid)
(Click to hear music)

"Christ hath made us free." Galatians 5:1

Words: Palmer Hartsough, in The Praise Hymnal (Cincinnati, Ohio: Fillmore Brothers, 1896).
Music: James H. Fillmore, Sr., 1896

I am resolved no longer to linger,
Charmed by the world's delight,
Things that are higher, things that are nobler,
These have allured my sight.

Refrain

I will hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.
I will hasten, hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.

I am resolved to go to the Savior,
Leaving my sin and strife;
He is the true One, He is the just One,
He hath the words of life.

Refrain

I am resolved to follow the Savior,
Faithful and true each day;
Heed what He sayeth, do what He willeth,
He is the living Way.

Refrain

I am resolved to enter the kingdom
Leaving the paths of sin;
Friends may oppose me, foes may beset me,
Still will I enter in.

Refrain

I am resolved, and who will go with me?
Come, friends, without delay,
Taught by the Bible, led by the Spirit,
We'll walk the heav'nly way.

Refrain

Good Morning I am now home fromt he sleep Lab, got home about an hour ago. Had to wash all the goop out of my hair, feed and love on my babies, I know they missed me. I sure didn't sleep well at all last night and I am guessing that is a good thing for the test results.

It is raining  again here, Hey Liz your rain has reached us in California. Would you PEASE stop sending us your rain. That goes for you too, Jane and Nita.  <3   :ticked:

See all y-all later

Live His L.I.F.E.

Love
Integrity
Focus
Eternal Impact

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

Well the snow seems to  have stopped.  We just got our driveway plowed out and can now drive in without getting stuck.

The devotional is good Al thankyou.

Our babies are really fat.  I know Cimi has good milk, but these puppies are much bigger than the last litter at this time of growth.  They are soo cute too.  They know our voices as well.  We pick them up and they settle down right away.

The girls have a snow day today.  We seem to get a lot more snow days than the south.  It is still overcast, I suspect we will get more yet,  Snow that is.

Pat how are you today?

Good to see you are over the sleep clinic Marilyn.  Hope they get results that can help you.

Well we are going in to the church later.  One of the ladies is teaching card making.  they will be making valentine cards.

I wonder how Cornelia is doing?  Any one have news?  Also Janet's Beth. I am continuing to pray.

Bye for now

Hi everyone.  I didn't post yesterday as just didn't seem to have the energy to think of anything intelligent to post.  Unfortunately I feel about the same today and just want to close my eyes.  I thought my blood pressure might be low but just now took it and it was ok.  This is day 4 or so that I have been so tired that all I want to do is rest.  I just don't like the feeling.  Sorry about the compaining.

Papa John, it does sound like Cornelia could benefit from a pacemaker.  It is nice you were able to stay with her yesterday as sure that was comforting to her.  Sure you must have been exhausted when you got home.

I have read all the postings but not going to try to address individuals today.

Marilyn.  Welcome home.  Wasn't the sleep lab fun?? LOL  I felt I didn't sleep either, but he said I did.  I still don't think I did.  And now you don't want our rain???  Be that way.  I'll stop sending it immediately, but now you'll have to suffer through sunshine and stuff.  You'll be sorry. haha

Oh, I bet your kids were really glad to see you!

Larry, I went through that sooo tired for two days.  I thought I'd slept well, and hated to get up.  When I did, I sat in my recliner and slept the day away.  It was strange.  After two days I am feeling better...not so tired.  I hope all of us are just following messed up sleep cycles and other than that....we are all well.

I keep thinking, again, of a song the Lord helped me write after our Pastor and friend, Bev died. (Jane and I)  I wish I could give you the tune, and there are few words, but here it is:

My heart knows.......what my eyes have never seen.
seems my spirit runs to you so easily.
But there's a longing and a missing you
That joy cannot erase.
No,  I won't be at home until I look upon Your Face.

And when I close my eyes just a moment,
just for one moment..
and open them again, I will see You!
Every dream fulfilled
what I've always wanted will be true
When I open up my eyes.........and I see You.

When I close my eyes, when I close my eyes.....
and open them again,   I will see YOU.

I thought of Bev just closing her eyes for a moment and then waking up looking into the Face of her Everything and All.  Jesus. :)

How are all of you today?  Nita, Jane and Marilyn and Al........send that rain down here to SW Kansas, we are so dry we can really use it! :)  And we will share our sunshine with you!

JudyB, you are getting so much snow, too!  We have had very little so far this winter.  In fact, this has almost been the winter that wasn't---and we hope it doesn't turn cold and windy in the Spring.

I had a good workout this morning, but not upper body.  I'm still having a lot of trouble with my arm/shoulder.  :(  And I don't like that.

Papa John, I'm glad you were able to stay with Cornelia.  Having a loved one near is good when you are going through those tough times.  Do remember to tke care of our Papa John, too.  Prayers continue.

Larry, I'm sorry you are feeling so tired, and hope your energy returns soon.  You are such a busy man, always doing for others, and I know you don't like feeling so weary.  I'm praying for you.

Beth was feeling good this morning.  She had had her shower and shampoo and was waiting for the PT gal to whirlpool her feet.  Then they will start working on some exercises to get her moving again.  Beth said she had slept in the recliner last night because the bed hurts her back so much.

I am putting color on Pat's hair today; also hope to get started on some painting for the portrait class which starts a week from today.

Thanks to all who inquire about and pray for Beth.  I love you!

Talk to you later!

January 30
Personal Life: Accountability to God
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
judgment.
--Hebrews 9:27
It was the belief in the accountability of man to his maker that made
America a great nation. Among those earlier leaders was Daniel
Webster whose blazing eyes and fiery oratory often held the Senate
spellbound. In those days the Congress was composed of strong, noble
statesmen who carried the weight of the nation in their hearts and
minds.
Someone asked: "Mr. Webster, what do you consider the most serious
thought that has ever entered your mind?"
"The most solemn thought that has ever entered my mind is my
accountability to my maker," he replied.
Men like that cannot be corrupted and bought. They do not have to
worry if someone listens to their telephone calls. What they were in
character and in deportment resulted from their belief that they
would finally be accountable to God.  Echoes from Eden, 130.

"Lord, help me to live my life today in such a way that, should You
call me tonight to stand before You and give account, I would have
nothing of which I would need to be ashamed. Amen."

Whew .... I'm just now coming online and it's afternoon  :o  This must be some sort of record for me.

Thanks, Al, for today's devotional thoughts and thanks to you and Pat for the songs ...

And a special thanks to NITA for that song for Bev.  You know how I love it ... I just wish you had a way to put the music on here, too.   :)

Janet I've been enjoying the photos you are uploading to the gallary.  It's great to see Beth's smile.   ;)

I will not take up the space here to reply to all the messages ... Don't want to be a post hog y'know.   ;D  Just know that I've read all and I am praying for the needs and rejoicing with those who are rejoicing.

I have some concerns that keep nagging at the back of my mind.  There are so many areas that need attention here at my home and I have put them off long enough.  I'm almost afraid to start because I know there is not enough $$$ to get to all of them (not even part of them) and once I start looking at things that need repairing I usually find a whole lot more!   :-\  Well, I do know that my Father knows exactly what I need and when I need it, so I'll leave it up to Him to handle the details.

Y'all have a good day - what's left of it - and I'll be back later.

I'm home from work and it was a very busy shift.  I stopped at the Chiropractor's for my monthly adjustment and was advised that I need to return on Wed as my shoulder is acting up and it is the joint not the muscle.  I am to keep moist heat to it and try not to do too much.  (And who will do the laundry I ask? ::))  Oh well, there are those worse off than me.

Time to go and get the heating pad back on my shoulder.  I wonder how Cornelia is doing?

Just a quick stop by this evening to say I am finally feeling like my oldself.  When I got up from resting this afternoon I realized I didn't feel weary anymore and I was so thankful.  I got busy and got our church website updated for February and did some major revisions on our Calvin Cove webpage to put in more photos and to put in more about volunteering.

Janet, so good to read that Beth is feeling better.

We had a very beautiful morning and then this afternoon it clouded up and rained a bit and then before sundown the sun reappeared.  It was warm again here today.

Larry, I'm sorry you've felt so tired the last few days. Hope your "feeling good period will lengthen out.

Nita, thanks for the poem, I enjoyed it.

It's good to see so many old friends here. I'm sorry I've felt so bad lately, but maybe the tiredness I've felt will be behind me, too.

It's also great to see our new poster - glad you're with us.

Pat, you asked about my foot. I'm still not allowed to walk the length of a large store yet, but all in all, the foot is better and the pain upon each step that I've dealt with since going back into shoes is diminishing each day.

Yes, Janet, I often pray for Beth. Y'all are on my mind a lot.

It's so good to hear from the rest of our posters. I'm sorry I can't respond to everyone, but please understand I love all who come here and thoroughly enjoy reading your posts.

Hello all!  I understand the tired/weariness feeling.  Mine isn't so much physically tired as my brain just doesn't seem to want to go.  As the little Saturday morning cartoon character used to say, "My get up and gone, has got up and went."

However, time keeps on marching, and dragging me with it. :)

I hope all is well -- at least maintaining, if not better, in each of ya'll's households.

Take care . ..
