Morning Devotional...

Personal Life: The Call of God

Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful;
nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

--Hebrews 12:11

"Your calling," said Meister Eckhart to the clergy of his day, "cannot make you holy; but you can make it holy. No matter how humble that calling may be, a holy man can make it a holy calling.  A call to the ministry is not a call to be holy, as if the fact of his being a minister would sanctify a man; rather, the ministry is a calling for a holy man who has been made holy some other way than by the work he does. The true order is: God makes a man holy by blood and fire and sharp discipline. Then he calls the man to some special work, and the man being holy makes that work holy in turn....

Every person should see to it that he is fully cleansed from all sin, entirely surrendered to the whole will of God and filled with the Holy Spirit. Then he will not be known as what he does, but as what he is. He will be a man of God first and anything else second.
We Travel an Appointed Way, 59-60.

"You've called me to be holy, Lord, not famous; to be holy, not successful. Keep me focused today on being the person You want me to be, no matter how significant or insignificant the work You ask me to do. Amen."

Oh that I may be that person,Lord.

Thank you Pat for the deovtional this morning.

QuoteYou've called me to be holy, Lord, not famous; to be holy, not successful. Keep me focused today on being the person You want me to be, no matter how significant or insignificant the work You ask me to do. Amen."

Let that be the prayer of each one of us today.

Hi everyone.

Pat, thanks for that fine devotional.

Jeanne, glad you have water again.  It is very frustrating when the faucet just keeps running.  I just had the plumber here this week and about fainted when he told me the amount.  It cost $80 for the minimum 1 hour of labor plus $40 for the visit and $8 for the part.  The next time I think I will call my son and give him the money for the work.  I hope you will be able to fix your faucets or, if not, have a friend who will do it for you.

Not much on my schedule today.  I plan to upload more of my photos to a website called Snapfish that allows you to have as many photos uploaded as you want.  It is a site that belongs to Staples.  I decided this would make a good source of storage.  Since my Internet seems to be fixed the photos uploaded very quickly and I put up a number of albums yesterday.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Today is the five year anniversary of my Mother living her eternal life with our Father in Heaven.  Yes, I really miss her.  Wish I was with her to ask her questions...tell her things...just to chat but how can I be sad when I know she is in no pain, no sorrow and no crying.  It makes me happy to think that God has appointed my Mom to the Welcoming Committee and she is at the gate saying, "Hello!  My name is Ruby!  Welcome to Heaven.  So glad you are here!".  I can imagine how joyful she was in seeing her loved ones in Heaven when she arrived at the Great Reunion in Heaven.  Our loved ones that have left this world can't come back to us but we can prepared ourselves to go to them some day...in God's time.

Our time in this world is a tiny dot compared to our time in Heaven for eternity!

His Eye Is On The Sparrow (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/His_Eye_Is_On_The_Sparrow.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Why should I feel discouraged?
Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender words I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears
Tho' by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Received this is the mail today so thought I would share it:

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin
of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark
17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister
asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17.

Every hand went up.

The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters.  I will now
proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

Good afternoon folks.  Not much going on here this chilly January afternoon.  I'm still boiling my water (or treating it with a little Clorox).  It's frustrating, but much better I suppose than getting sick because I didn't.

I guess that's about all I have to say. Maybe there'll be more later...  :)

Nice devotional, thanks Pat.  Another day of rain, surely does dampen the spirit along with the yard.  Little ray of sunshine would feel real good :(

Read all of the posts from yest. and loved the music, especially 'You Raise Me Up'.  Will have to borrow Wendy's Josh Grogin CD and burn it on a disk for my computer.  The music on this site is a real treat and often makes my day lots better....

Thanks for the emails, Marilyn.  Good Morning was sure cute!  I was feeling sort of down and that did make things better.  That joke about the lawyers was also a good one, along with Larry's smile today!  Faith in God, music and good jokes, that is what makes life pleasant for this person.

I printed out a year's Bible Study and this time plan to get thro' the whole thing.  It has a different thing each day:  The Law, History, Psalms, Poetry, Prophecy, Gospels and Epistles.  I cut it up into 7 weeks per page in a notebook...7 days, 7 weeks....makes the project less daunting!  So far...so good!

Have to run now as must go shopping with Wendy and take Amanda to work.  I have to cook dinner tonight and need stuff at the store.  Here is a little smile:

THE OLD-TIMERS' RIGHT

A group of Sun City Senior citizens were sitting around talking about their ailments:

"My arms are so weak I can barely hold a cup of coffee", said one.

"Yes, I know. My cataracts are so bad I can't even see my coffee", replied another.

"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck", said a third, to which several nodded in agreement.

My blood pressure pills make me dizzy," another went on.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man as he shook his head.

Then there was a short moment of silence.

"Well, it's not that bad" said one woman cheerfully. "Thank God, we can all still drive"!

                   ::) ::) ::) ;)

Reminds me of many of the drivers here on the island!

Pleasant day and God Bless.

Liz

Etta Sue:

:aaah:  My mother has been gone for 5 years also.  I miss her a great deal at times but would not want her to come back from where she is at to be in the condition she was when she left.  Does that make any sense? ???

Just resting in the knowledge that I'm going to be with both of my parents, (and my brother) and those who went on before me when my time comes.

Hope all are having a wonderful day.

Samantha

Hi, friends,

I felt like getting out to the shopping center to Wal Mart today. Got some "bargains," one of which wasn't much of a bargain when I tried on that shirt!

Tonight my daughter and I are to eat dinner together. It's nice to again have a friendship with her.

I haven't written anything here for the last few days.  Sorry about that.  We are doing fine taking things a day at a time.  I don't get out as much these days except to go to church and to the store and things like that.

Anyway it is always good to read the posts here even if I don't jump into the conversations very much.

Tomorrow we are having the dedication of our new facilities.  All of the older building has been refurbished and a large wing added with many class rooms and areas for different ministries.  We will begin with breakfast together after which we will go through all the new building.  Then we will meet for our worship.  Usually we have two services but tomorrow one service with half of the people in the auditorium and half in the a fellowship area.  After the service we will have a prayer walk where we go to various areas and pray.

I hope you all have a great day tomorrow.

Ps 1:1-6

1   Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2   But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.
3   He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
4   The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5   Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6   For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.  KJ)

I have a question????

What does the term "homeboy" mean in today's language.

My feeling that if a person calls Jesus Christ a "Homeboy" it is just plain wrong as it is pulling the holyness and purity of our Lord down to slum terms.  Am I wrong????

I will wait for a response.

Thanks

Judyb a "homeboy" or "homegirl" is someone from the same home town as the person who is saying it. Or from  the same general area. It is a term used a lot in prisons and on the streets.
No you are not wrong.

Thank you Marilyn for clearing that definition up.  I only fight moral battles with the girls, and I feel this is a moral battle.
