Morning Devotional...

The Whole Life

1 Corinthians 10:31
"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Paul told the Corinthians to be careful to avoid letting their behavior influence other people to do things they're not absolutely sure are right.  Instead, he said, they should make sure everything they do in life brings credit to God.  Meat that's been sacrificed to idols is still simply perfectly good meat.  But if somebody else follows suit with you by eating it - and isn't sure that doing such a thing doesn't involve them in the idolatry - then you've influenced them to violate their conscience - and you're not glorifying God by eating.

What's true in that particular instance is true in general: everything we do in life should be aimed at bringing credit to our God - even in our doing of the most mundane things.

So - let's start each day by prayiing, "Father, grant me wisdom and insight to see how I can bring You credit in each thing I think, do, or say today, no matter what it is or who is watching - through Jesus, Who is my Lord.  Amen."

JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/16.mid)
(Click to hear music)

We also are weak in Him, yet by
God's power we shall live with Him.
2 Corinthians 13:4

I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Thank you Al for the words this morning. I am glad you have your hydro back.   Living in the country  we loose our hydro often and as a result I can  empathyse.

Well we have been handed some difficult news.  Our beloved Pastor Dennis has given his resignation as senior pastor of our church.  HE is to become the bishop for our district within the Evangelical Missionary Churches.  I don't think there was a dry eye in the church at the end of the service yesterday.  He has been such a wonderful friend and shepherd, especially over the last 22 months.   :'(   :'(

It was a rough night.  Melaura had a night terror, and she got only 2 hours of sleep.  I have lower back problems os had a rough night as well.  Today is a new day, "let us rejoice and be glad in it."

The Temp is only -5*C, but it feels  much colder.  It seems foggy out, and the trees are still heavy with snow.  According to the long range weather report we got on the weekend the temperature is to peek at +9*C by Friday. That is crazy, in the middle of January.

Well till later

Judy

I love the song you decided to add to the devotional Al. Best of all, I know it.

My weekend was quiet, but great...My sister and I went to church yesterday and I learned so much.  The pastor was talking about leaving 2005 in the past and looking to the future, wich is 2006.  The way he explained this was great and I would like to share it with you.  He said that most people like to read, but we hardly ever read the same chapter of a book twice...wich is true.  :) He said that life is like a book you read, the only difference is that we keep going back to the previous chapters of the book...while you're in the past, you can't look at the future, or even the here and now.  I liked this discription and it helped me to see that I'm guilty of that myself.  The most important thing is to take the promises God gives to us, but also to remember that with each promise there is something you have to do to receive this.

I can't wait for next Sunday...it's great to fellowship...praise & worship, with other Christians...that's the part I loved the most. Just being in the house of God...  :)

Thanks Adri - it's an admonition I need myself.

About the future - someone once said, "I don't know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future."  I love that.

Yesterday in Sunday School the teacher passed out a piece of paper and had us write all our shortcoming for the past year, then he told us to wad it it up or tear it into pieces and how it in the trash. Those shortcomings have been forgiven and we are to start the new year not going back to those that we just threw away.

At prayer meeting there were 20 of us present and we put the chairs in a circle and discussed what we would like to see for our church in this new year. Then we had a season of prayer and  some of us were chosen to be  in the center of the circle and prayed fervently for.  Strongholds were brought down, and we saw the breakthroughs happen right there.

Sorry that it sounds as if I am speaking Christianese but in order to preserve the privacy  of others I have chosen not to go into a lot of detail.

I am listening to a wonderful worship CD that our Pastor put together and handed out to each person of our congregation, So I will have to come back to listen to a Closer Walk With Thee. Al I  love that song and have sung it many times solo and in duet at the church down south. I have not had the opportunity to do any specials  here. Those are usually done by one of the worship team or the Pastor.

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful day here in Georgia and it is going to be in the 60s again today.  I will take as many January days in the 60s as I can get.  I just got back from coffee at the cafe and then went to Aldi's (grocery store) for some major shopping.  I have it all put up now and think that will be my major activity for the day as that leaves me pretty exhausted.

Al, thanks for that great devotional today.  You will notice it says I edited it but all I did was correct a spelling in the scripture.  When I looked at the code I saw that you had probably corrected it already but perhaps forgot to click on the post button or something since the screen still showed the one added letter.

Adri and Marilyn, it sounds like you had similar worship themes yesterday and what wonderful advice.  We can do nothing about the past but we still have our future ahead of us.  Why worry about something you cannot change.

JudyB, sorry to hear of the bad night your daughter and you had.  Hope today is much better.

Pat, sure hope your back is feeling stronger today.  I have been very fortunate to seldom have a back problem and the few times I have a couple days of rest solved the problem.  I have occasionally felt that little slip when stooping and then the pain.

Hope this is a good day for everyone.

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

Words and Music: Ira Stanphill

I don't know about tomorrow,
I just live from day to day.
I don't borrow from it's sunshine,
For it's skies may turn to gray.

I don't worry o'er the future,
For I know what Jesus said,
And today I'll walk beside Him,
For He knows what is ahead.

Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

Ev'ry step is getting brighter,
As the golden stairs I climb;
Ev'ry burden's getting lighter;
Ev'ry cloud is silver lined.

There the sun is always shining,
There no tear will dim the eyes,
At the ending of the rainbow,
Where the mountains touch the sky.

Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

I don't know about tomorrow,
It may bring me poverty;
But the One Who feeds the sparrow,
Is the One Who stands by me.

And the path that be my portion,
May be through the flame or flood,
But His presence goes before me,
And I'm covered with His blood.

Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

I appreciate this devotional today. I like the hymn Just a closer walk with thee.
If we would just draw a little closer to the Lord each day, what a difference it would make in our lives.
     We have a week of prayer each nite in our church this week so I think this week will be my week to draw just a little bit closer to the Lord.
     So much to pray for and so many needs. It is good to come and pray for the needs of others :thumbsup: .
  Hope you all have a Blessed day and be encouraged because God has everything under control/

Hi Judy, sorry you have back problems.  Do you take glucosimine?  I'm not consistent but I try to take Glucosimine and condroitin and MSM.  Hope you feel better soon.

Love Ruthie

I was here earlier, reading away, when all of a sudden my computer went off and my space heater went off.  My ceiling light was still on and other lights still worked.  But no electric in the bathroom, bedroom, hallway and the center wall of the house...both sides.  I had Ivalou come over and be here when I changed fuses....still fuses...not breakers.  But I changed 3 fuses and none worked!  So I called 4 men and had to leave messages. Then I called the man that worked on my furnace.  He said he would stop by on his way home and see if he could help me.  He did!  First thing he did when he went to my basement was open the door to a fuse box that I didn't even realize was there!!!  He said, this one looks bad.  Replaced it and now I have electric all over the house again!!  I know I about dropped my teeth when he opened up a fuse box that I hadn't even seen!  Lots of fuses in that box...the one I worked on only had 4 fuses.  Anyway, all is well but he does think it was my space heater that was drawing too much juice.  So the space heater will be limited!

Other than that, today is much like most winter days in Indiana....dark and gloomy!  Cold!

God Bless You All!!

One of our members (Gord) posted a prayer request for the family of Warren Parker.  The funeral is in Pickering.  We need to pray for the others in the trio as well as his family.

Ruthie No I don't take either of those supplements.  I will give it a try next pay.
