How To Be An Effective Witness
Matthew 5:14-16 says...
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
[/list]
Luke 11:33 says...
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

Morning Devotional...
Grace Alone, Faith Alone, the Scriptures Alone | (https://www.christianphotographers.com/images/jasForum.jpg) |
GRACE ALONEBoth the Bible and human experience testify that all men and women are defective in character. The Bible puts it this way:
"All have sinned and come short of the glory of God". (Romans 3:23) Because of this, it is impossible for human beings to merit God's favour. Isaiah tells us that
"all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags". (Isaiah 64:6)
Keeping the Ten Commandments will not make us fit for heaven. The Law of God was not given to prepare us for heaven, but rather to show us that we are sinners before God. St. Paul the Apostle said
"Therefore by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin". (Romans 3:20)
The key to the problem is found in the New Testament:
"For by Grace are ye saved, through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast". (Ephesians 2:8,9)
God manifested His grace by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to die for sinners such as you and I.
"God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us". (Romans 5:8)
FAITH ALONEIn the light of God's absolute and infinite holiness, how can a poor sinner deserving of the judgment of Hell, be brought into an eternal relationship with God and enjoy the knowledge of sins forgiven? The answer is profound and simple--
BY FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST ALONE!St. John the Apostle tells us that he wrote his Gospel for the purpose of bringing the truth of
"faith in Christ alone" to us; he says,
"But these things are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that believing ye might have life through His name". (John 20:31)
St. Paul makes a similar statement in Romans 5:1.
"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by FAITH into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God". In Romans 1:17, Paul triumphantly proclaims
"THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH". Will you, like Paul, stand in
GRACE by
FAITH or will you continue to sink in the mire of your own feeble "good works"? All human "rationalizing" (be it ever so pious or profane) is always a substitute for faith. God requires faith to believe that it is
NOTHING OF SELF but
EVERYTHING IN CHRIST.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVETH IN HIM should not perish but have everlasting life". (John 3:16)
THE SCRIPTURES ALONEThe blessed Son of God said of the religious people and priests of His day, "In vain do they worship Me teaching for doctrines the commandments of men". (Mark 7:7) He also said to them "Ye do err not knowing the Scriptures".
It is sad that in our day many religious and non-religious people are also in error for the same reason. They follow human traditions and rituals and ignore what the Bible has to say. St. Paul tells us that
"all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness".David the psalmist wrote,
"Forever, O Lord, thy Word is settled in heaven". (Psalm 119:89) and the Lord Jesus declared
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but MY WORDS shall NOT pass away". (Mark 13:31) It is that same word that shall judge us in the last day. (John 12:48)
The Holy Scriptures alone must be our guide in spiritual matters. There we find that when we believe to the saving of the soul, we should:
- Tell others of God's grace. (Matthew 28:19)
- Join with other of like faith. (Hebrews 10:25)
- Separate ourselves from ungodly systems. (2 Corinthians 6:16)
Jack Scott loved his Lord! He passed away on January 10, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
He is missed greatly by his family.

Saved By Grace (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/savgrace.mid)
Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.Ecclesiastes 12:6,7
Author: Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915
Musician: George C. Stebbins, 1846-1945
Someday the silver cord will break,
And I no more as now shall sing;
But oh, the joy when I shall wake
Within the palace of the King!
Refrain:
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story— Saved by grace;
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story— Saved by grace.
Someday my earthly house will fall,
I cannot tell how soon 'twill be;
But this I know— my All in in All
Has now a place in heav'n for me.
Someday, when fades the golden sun
Beneath the rosy-tinted West,
My blessed Lord will say, "Well done!"
And I shall enter into rest.
Someday: till then I'll watch and wait,
My lamp all trimmed and burning bright,
That when my Saviour ope's the gate,
My soul to Him may take its flight.

Wheeee I'm #1 :D
Thanks,
PAT, for once again sharing your Jack with us. I appreciate the thoughtful and (sometimes) provocative messages he left with you. I love that song, too. :)
Marilyn:
QuoteJane Yippee you get to see Bryan real soon.
Yup! :D
RIA~I'm sorry I didn't reply when you asked about Bryan the other day. The reason is that I didn't have anything to tell you that was a certainty. Actually, there never is much 'certainty' with this daughter of mine ... like trying to bounce a football! :-\
REVELATION 7 : 10 NIV
And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."
From the voices of those who know,"
the message is clear!
God reigns and with His rule comes salvation.
This is because of the Lamb who was willing
to be slain, but who triumphed over death.
Because of the Lamb's work and faithfulness,
we can be assured of Heaven.
PRAYER...
Loving Father and Sovereign God,
thank you for providing salvation by
extending Your grace to me in Jesus.
Thank you, Jesus, for offering Yourself
to be the Lamb sacrificed for my sins.
I look forward to Heaven and seeing You
face to face and praising You with the
angels, the matyrs, the elders, and
other faithful Christians before the throne.
To You, O God, belongs all praise, honor,
glory, and thanks,
in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Psalm 8: 4-6
What is man that you are mindfull of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the
heavenly beings and crowned him with
glory and honor. You made him ruler
over the works of your hands; you put
everything under his feet.
GOD'S GREAT LOVE
So great is Your power, Lord,
that you made us from the dust of the earth...
So great is Your love, Lord,
that You gave us dominion over Your earth...
With humble, thankful hearts, we praise You

Good morning!
Pat, thank you for another devotional from dear Jack. They are all so good.
Ria, thank you, too. You always find such good things to share. I'm so glad you father got a good report! How is the house renovating going? It's going to be so nice!
Etta Sue--thanks for that. Actually, I have a dear friend who just married her best friend's widower. Their honeymoon was a cruise with John Haggee and Jesse DuPlantis! She called me this week and said it was really a fun time, they are home in Dodge City again now.
I am missing Abby and her family. They are in Branson, Missouri for a few days' vacation.
Jane---I'm so thrilled that you will get to see Bryan! And I pray that nothing interferes or changes your plans. Bryan NEEDS to see his Grandma! Please give him a big hug from me!
I think today will hold: more work on the old motor home. I need to get everything out of it. Yesterday I washed two loads of sheets, curtains, tablecloths, etc. from it. We had bought two new recliners and put them in there, and I said I wish we had them, so I could use them in the bedroom for when I want to watch something on TV different from what Darrel is watching in the living room. So---we had to take the door out of the motor home in order to get them out! Then I gave them a thorough cleaning, and now I have two pretty blue recliners! I had sort of forgotten about them even being in the motor home. :-[ ;D
It's time to go take my pills, eat a bite of breakfast and get into my day. What do You have in store for me, God?
Good morning Thanks Pat for another wonderful devotional from Jack. Ria thanks for yours too.
Today I am taking Fay grocery shopping, then at Gloria's Ia m making chili beans and cleaning her house. Her vacuum isn't working very well so Iam taking mine over there.
Al is coming by this morning for me to take a picture of his drivers liscense as the batteries for his camera died and the photos wasn't clear enough to read the info.
I also have my regular Saturday appointment to meet Jenny on AIM at 8 am. So I won't be staying long on the computer, things to do to start my day.

QuoteWhat do You have in store for me, God?
by Janet. Our lives are just filled with surprises - some good and some not so easy. Isn't that the truth?
I just wanted to mention a brand-new library book that I started to read. It is "No Greater Glory" The Four Immortal Chaplains and the Sinking of the Dorchester in World War II. Author - Dan Kurzman Four chaplains (two Protestant, one Catholic and one Rabbi) became good friends and were on a ship headed to Greenland in early 1943 when a German sub sank the ship they were on. They gave their life jackets to other men for survival knowing that there was no way for a chance without a life jacket and were last seeing praying together. After hearing the author and some of the survivors & family members interviewed on a radio station, I just had to request this book.
We are going camping and it is 90 degrees - at a Bison Ranch just into Wyoming and must test our trailer that we have not have time to use. Carol
Carol, that sounds like a wonderful book! I love reading of the lives and heroism of people of faith!
Good to see each one today. One of my favorite New Testament books is James. He helps us to see what the Christian life should be.
James 2:1-5
1 My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.
2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.
3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet,"
4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? (NIV)
As Christians we should show love and kindness toward all and not favor the rich over the poor, the strong over the weak, the beautiful over the ugly.
1 Sam 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (NIV)

QuoteWhat do You have in store for me today, God?
What a thought that is! I wonder how many heartaches we have because we don't ask this question!
I wonder what HE DOES have in store for me/us today. Lets dwell on that thought!
Meika Welcome. We miss you and the insight you bring!
Blessings all
Thank you, RIA and JANET. I always "hold all things loosely" because plans can get sidetracked or even deleted. It will be good to see Bryan, though, and I am fairly certain this will happen. :)
RIA~As always, you have presented a good devotional for today. I pray for your situation and for your father's health. Have a good day ... or evening ...
I am going to aim at a few chores around here today. For instance, I bought some Windex for the outside of my windows ... need to get at that and then perhaps change the filter in the heater :-\ I probably should see to pulling some weeds and ... well, I'm sure there's more that could grab my attention. We'll see ........ :P
Y'all have a good day for yourselves and enjoy whatever the Lord has in store for you. Be blessed!
Have you all got your month of July calendar on your fridge?
You can print your own you know.

Hi everyone. It has been a quick morning. Went to the coffee at the cafe and then to two grocery stores. Spend an hour or so talking with a good SeniorNet friend on the phone and now have just had lunch. This afternoon I am going to burn some CD's of songs my wife picked out from my music collection I have on my computer.
Pat, Jack's writings are so clear and pointed--they are always rewarding to read. That for sharing that piece with us today.
Jane, certainly hope you will be able to see Bryan and your daughter as now planned.
Etta Sue, hope you had a good trip today and the rain wasn't a problem.
Ria, certainly good news concerning your father and his cancer. Sorry that he has so much problem walking and hopefully the doctors will find something that will help him.
Carol, hope the camping trip goes well. I think we left Colorado at the right time before it got so warm. It is warm here but our house is nice and cool.
Thank you all on behalf of my wife for the birthday greetings. We went out to eat yesterday afternoon and then took in a movie, something we seldom do, and saw Tom Hanks in Terminal. It was a good movie and we enjoyed it very much.
It is good to see each person posting. Hope everyone has a good day.
I wonder if you who are reading these posts today can honestly say...
I've found a friend, Who is all to me,
His love is ever true;
I love to tell how He lifted me
And what His grace can do for you.
And can you shout it from the treetops and rooftops that you're saved?
Saved by His power divine,
Saved to new life sublime!
Life now is sweet and my joy is complete,
For I'm saved, saved, saved!!
If you can, let's sing it together!

Hi everyone.
Just popped in briefly. I have banking to get caught up on, then must be at my part-time job for 5 this evening. I also have a spreadsheet that I must get done before a new girl starts to work with me at my full-time job Monday morning. I think I have a busy weekend ahead.
Oh yes, I must also make time to sit outside in the beautiful sunshine and do some cross-stitching. I am working on a gift and have less than a month to get it completed and framed!
JUST TO ENCOURAGE YOU.

Thanks for the encouragement, Chris!
Boy, I'm not used to such hard work! Darrel and I have been cutting down and burning Russian olive trees, and all that dragging and pitch forking is hard work! I am scrated and burned, and singed the hair off my arms and my eyebrows! :-\ But it looks a lot better out there. Another two or three days should finish it up. Then we have to figure out a way to get the stumps out, so they won't sprout up again. I took a shower and some Tylenol, because I think every muscle I have is letting me know it's feeling abused! 8)
I had a good visit with my youngest daughter yesterday. Her oldest son is dyslexic and has a hard time in school. He is such a loving and kind boy, but gets discouraged when he can't keep up in school. They closed the alternative school where he was taking some of his classes, and do not want to help him unless she will allow him to be labeled "mentally retarded." And he ISN'T!! He was on the honor roll the last nine weeks! She's afraid if he gets that label, he will kill himself, as his self-esteem isn't too good as it is. And if he has to take classes with no help (all he needs is to be able to take the tests orally!) the result will be the same, because he will fall tooo far behind. Anyway, it is a heartache, and your prayers will be appreciated. His name is Justin.
I must get a birthday card out to the mailbox before the mail carrier comes! Later!
Pat, I just looked at all your photos there, and I still think your macro ones would hold their own in any contest! I would have commented, but couldn't find out how to do that. All your photos are lovely!
Hi Janet...
Thanks so much for looking!
When you're looking at the intermediate photo--not the large one--, just scroll down below the photo and you'll maybe see other people's comments.
At the bottom there's a place to add your name and then your comment beside it and then click on "OK" or just your enter key.
For instance, Janet... Click on this URL...
http://www.pat.photo-sense.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastcom&cat=0&pos=1
When you do, you're looking at the intermediate or medium-sized photo.
The title of the photo is right under it..."H20~Frozen in Time"
Scroll down still further and there's a little description of the photo.
Then under that there are a few random photos.
Go further down...
Near the bottom you'll see that Judy McKenna commented, then Alan and then Marilyn.
Under Marilyn's name it says, "Add Your Comment"...
Put your name in the first little square and then your comment on the line beside it. Don't use your ENTER key till you're finished, just keep typing as the ENTER key posts your comment.
Thanks Ria, Jane and Marilyn! It was nice to see your comments. I hope to add some more soon of "Around Guelph".
Larry, sounds like you had a nice day yesterday. Our daughter, Martha, saw The Terminal and she has recommended it for me and Cornelia. We seldom go but we may go see this one.
Mieka, and I along with all of CP love you very much. It is always good to see you here. Come in more often.
Continuing some thoughts from James:
James 2:14-17 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. (KJV)
Our faith shows up when we help others along the way. The Priest and Levite who passed by on the other side would have claimed to have faith in God. But what kind of faith was it?
Janet, be careful and don't do too much on these hot days. Maybe is isn't all that hot up there. But it is possible to get out and do work you aren't used to doing and cause you to be sick.

Good day to all my wonderful friends,
This will be short as my weekends are so taken when Craig is home. We got the bedroom all painted yesterday and moved in in late afternoon. It dosen't even look the same. I redecorated the master bath and it looks GREAT!!, Now all I have left is CLEAN UP the mess I amde in the whole house doing it. HA
Tomorrow is our new granddaaughters welcome to the world party. I am cooking for 25 people tonight to do a burrito bar for lunch at the party.
I wanted to check in and read all your days going ons. You are all with me in my hearts and prayers. God Bless all of you. :)
We are home from Ohio. Got home at about 3:15 p.m. Ivalou's daughter is 91.5 miles from here. Good drive....no problems. On the way back a really big dark cloud was over head. It started raining...hardest rain I have been driving in for years. I am so glad there was a semi in front of me. I put on my hazzard lights and slowed down. The traffice slowed to 30 mph. In less than 10 minutes it was over and the sun was shining. By the time we got to the next exit, it hadn't even rained there. No rain here when we got home.
The girls were happy to be coming to grandma's and spend time with her. Another granddaughter of Ivalou's is getting married next Saturday. Kara and Lydia are going to go with Ivalou, Jerry and I. I asked Lydia (5) if she had ever been to a wedding. She said No. I asked her if she knew what they did in a wedding. She said No. I said Crystal and Chris will kiss each other! She said...In Church?????? (and wrinkled up her nose and then giggled) She is a delight!
ttyl Thank you God for a safe trip.
Well, CP was down!
I wonder how many of you noticed. I know that Al Moak noticed as he wrote to me. I've just received his email now.
Glad we're back.
And Papa JOhn emailed me about CP.
Home now from work for the day I have had a bite to eat and I am
T I R E D I will be in bed early tonight probably by 8:15 or sooner. I bought home some pillow to dry for Gloria, I coulndn't get into the laundry Room at the apartment complex.
I enjoyed looking at your photos Pat and will go back to look some more, I rated a few of them.
Nite Nite.
Soory, Pat, I didn't know about CP being down - but then I've only been online about 1/2 hour. ::) And probably won't be around much longer, either.
Busy day, but nothing exciting. Just more meals, dishes, laundry, ironing, making beds and putting another 4 hours into the Town website.
Even if I were inclined to complain about the weather, I wouldn't have any reason to these days. We've had some rain, a couple of beautiful thunderstorms, lots of sun and the afternoon temperatures only in the mid 80's. Can't ask for much better than that, can you?
Thanks Marilyn... I've seen some of your comments. I just added another. But I also put it on CP in the Photos with Scripture area along with a hymn.

Now this is interesting....... today is still up and tomorrow is up too. Better watch out I am lible to be bonked on the hose!!
Good night all and blessings to you
Finally got to the computer today and enjoyed the devotionals and the posts. Went to visit your photo's Pat and they are lovely. Made a comment and noticed that there is a strange ex by my name?? Will try again tomorrow.
Made dinner for the kids as it is Sat. and like to give Wendy a break. They have been creating a lovely garden near my door and doing so much to make me comfortable. Went to Sally Ann with Wendy this morning and we bought some records and books. Wendy has got me started listening to records again...mostly did CD and tapes and rarely used the phono player. We get boxes of the Reader's Digest Records for a give-away price....what a treasure!!
There was a great deal of badly needed rain the last couple of days. Has stopped again. If tomorrow is nice we are all going to go into Victoria and visit the Butchard Gardens. Should get some good pictures.....all going well.
I have been reading a Shaker Cookbook and trying out some of the recipes. What an interesting book. Has inspired me to be interested in trying out new recipes again. Could be we may all end up with digestion problems :-\
Hope everyone has a wonderful Lord's Day tomorrow. Pleasant dreams and God Bless.

Hi Liz... I believe that the X is for you to click on if you want to delete your post but I'm sure you don't want to do that! LOL
Thanks for commenting.
Now, it's time to lock the door on today's New Every Morning and think of the Lord's Day.
