Who is your Father?

:) From Our Forums

  • Garden Visitors  Let's post photos of insects, little critters, etc. that visit our gardens.

Matthew 6:9.
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name."

When we are little, our fathers are often authority figures to us.  Not only so, but they seem high above us, and, in a good and functional family, they are the very epitomy of love, strength, knowledge, and wisdom (at least until we become teenagers!).  They almost seem to us to have the divine attributes of majesty and glory.

Nevertheless, our heavenly Father is far more.  If our hearts have been given new spiritual life, then He inspires in our hearts a holy awe and wonder, a hushed and worshipful reverence.  It's an attitude that keeps us from rushing carelessly into His Presence.

His people do well to address Him as "Oh God!!"  In fact, thinking of His wonderful works during the exodus from Egypt, the psalmist could plainly see that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Certainly to at least some, even in our day, the the attitude of holy fear and deepfelt reverence is still good and quite proper.

In the greatest of examples of such reverence, our Savior Himself closed His model prayer with the significant words, "Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen."

It's therefore no wonder, then, that He taught us to pray, not to any common person, but to "Our FATHER Who is in HEAVEN," and He immediately added "HALLOWED be Your Name!"  It is just such a God Who is our heavenly Father.

Is He your GOD and Father?  Tell Him so.

God, Our Father, We Adore Thee
(Click to hear music)

You received the Spirit of sonship.
And by Him we cry, "Abba, Father."
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit
that we are God's children.
Romans 8:15-16

Words: George W. Frazer
Music: John Zundel, 1870

God, our Father, we adore Thee! We, Thy children, bless Thy Name!
Chosen in the Christ before Thee, we are holy without blame.
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Abba's praises we proclaim!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Abba's praises we proclaim!

Son Eternal, we adore Thee! Lamb upon the throne on high!
Lamb of God, we bow before Thee, Thou hast brought Thy people nigh!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Son of God, Who came to die!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Son of God, Who came to die!

Holy Spirit, we adore Thee! Paraclete and heavenly Guest!
Sent from God and from the Savior, Thou hast led us into rest.
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! By Thy grace forever blessed:
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! By Thy grace forever blessed!

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Three in One! We give Thee praise!
For the riches we inherit, heart and voice to Thee we raise!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Thee we bless, through endless days!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Thee we bless, through endless days!

You just never know...

I was sitting at our security substation in one of the hospital's outbuildings when a woman stopped by and said "I just want to thank you..." Now I work in security, so "thank you" is a phrase I don't hear too often. She said that the other week when I gave her a ride back to the hospital was provedential. She said, "If you hadn't been here I might not have made it to my car so I could get to the other hospital in time. My dad took a turn for the worse, and he was only conscious for 2 hours before he died."
I had been just sitting there at the computer at the time, and thought I was just doing the right thing when I gave this staff member a lift. Instead I gave her the chance to say goodby to her dad. You just never know....

Al, thank you for the truthful words this morning.

Hi everyone.  I realized this morning that I hadn't visited CP yesterday so just read through the postings since my last posting.  I just now got back from coffee at the cafe.  We had a small group there, only about 6 of us, but enjoyed the time together.

I don't have anything on the calendar for today unless I decide to take my car in for an oil change.  I probably need to call and set up an appointment for tomorrow or later in the week.

Yesterday was my wife's 65th birthday and I got her a new flat screen 19" monitor for her computer.  I usually don't splurge for something that expensive for a birthday but decided I wanted her to have it.  She really likes it and it takes up much less room than her old monitor.  Our son was over yesterday evening and set it up for her and carried the old, very heavy, monitor to put in storage in the garage.

Marilyn, I would hope I express the general sentiments of most of us posting when I say that you never need to be defensive about sharing with us your worship experiences.  We each are responsible for seeking the way we can best worship God and different denominations have different approaches but hopefully the result of all is to reverently worhip the one true God and his son, Jesus Christ.  One of our former pastors held a periodic healing service and that was something I had never experienced before and I found it very meaningful.  Even the Presbyterian churches (sometimes called  the frozen chosen) are becoming more flexible with contemporary services as well the traditional.

I have a lot I want to do today so will be brief this morning.

Hello, all!  I know I haven't been here in forever, but I'm making a resolution right now to drop in daily and participate in the mini-challenges.  I've been - and still am - just incredibly busy, 65+ hours a week, and don't have a lot of time, but I really enjoy you guys and hope to contribute more to the site.

God bless all of you :)  Have a great day!

Good Morning. Wonderful devotional this morning Al.

Prayer meeting yesterday wonderful. At 5 pm for our regular prayer meeting we went to the Baptist church to participate in a 48 hour prayer vigil for this community.

We prayed for an hour then others joined in from other churches/denominations. The Pastors have been meeting once a week for  at least a year that I know of to pray for the community and unity among the various congregations..

It was agreed by all who were there that we should continue to pray for unity among the churches.  At the Community Baptist church they have a small prayer room that they will be leaving open and we can go to the website to sign up for the hour that we want to come and pray. They suggested that we all get together once a month to talk about what God is doing through our prayers.

Isn't it wonderful that all the denominations can come together as one body in Christ and bombard heaven, come against Satan for our community.?

The theme that seems to be common among those who shared last night was  on the preparing of the Bride and several people quoted Psalm 131 as the reference that God gave them during prayer along with the parable of the Ten Virgins.

Congratulations, Kevin!  Your waterways entry is superb!

Nards!  Hey, ol' buddy!  Glad to see you back.  Hope to see much more of you and your photos!

Busy day already.  I have read my devotions.  I have two loads of laundry on the line.  My trash is at my brothers to be picked up soon.  I have a letter in the mail to get a new prescription.  I called my Dentist and I have a credit of over $100 and they are sending me a check.  I need to print a thank you card for Kitty.  Tonight is the Kilbuck Photography Guild meeting and I don't have any pictures as of yet on a CD to take.  So busy, busy, busy.  Oh, yes!  I sprayed some ground ivy in my yard with Weed 'n' Feed!  And I am only on my second cup of  :coffee:

I forgot to mention that I need prayer today. Either my neck or my back is out, I am in  much pain so much that it is making me feel ill. No Tai Chi for me today but I am going over  to the class anyway to make an appearence since we haven't had class for 1½ weeks.

How true about "the frozen chosen" Larry!  It's what I was ordained in, lo those many years ago.  I guess they still think I'm in their Presbytery, since I've never bothered to withdraw my name.  There are some great brothers/sisters amongst the Presbyterians.  Their Westminster Confession is still a good expression of what I believe.

Marilyn, I pray you'll get relief for that back/neck - that can be so debillitating.

Etta Sue - I sure wish I had a greater-than $100 credit at the dentist!  I could sure use it!

Nards - I pray you'll survive this overworked time in your life, and that you'll still, somehow be able to be a good dad and husband!  Wow, what a schedule.

Keven - that is indeed a beautiful pic.  Thank you!  We probably won't get to see some of those particular waterways any other way.

All last week and this week my wife & I are arriving at the church around 8AM to make coffee, etc. for all the people that are coming to work on the new roof, soffets, etc.  Can't do it next wee, because Marbeth will be going in for surgery on Wednesday to have her Karotodid (sp?) cleaned out.  Amazingly, they're saying she'll be back home the next night.  I need a brain transplant, but they haven't yet begun doing those.

By the way, I received the following quote from A. W. Pink some time ago, and I'm just now getting around to posting it.  It's GOOD.

From every pulpit in the land it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, ... still reigns. Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire, and there is no fixed... resting place for the heart and mind but in the Throne of God. What is needed now, as never before, is a full, positive, constructive setting forth of the Godhood of God.

 :coffee: :
Good day to all.  It has been a long time since I have been on the site.  Life is very busy and putting in a lot of hours at work last week 43 hours more than I want.

I am not sure if I told you all about my wifes last app. with the doctor it was no encouragement and he told her that there would be no more surgery as it could cause more scar tissue.  So we ask that you contiue to pray that the Lord will give her the strength to continue and that the medication will not do any damage to her liver.

Thank you for your devotion Al.

I pray that everyone will have a good week and may the Lord bless you all.   Gord.

That is indeed a nice shot, Kevin.  Marilyn, you take care of that back.  Al, your words have a way of resonating soundly.  Larry, my birthday is not that far away, shall I send a list??? :)  Gord, greetings and prayers for both you and your wife during this time of difficulty.  Greetings to those members that have been away and I haven't had the opportunity to meet yet.

Kevin Congratulations on your photos being so  awesome. I love sunsets and waterway shots. Living so close to the ocean and river I  take a lot of photos there myself.

Thanks Al and Carl for the thought regarding my back. I went to the chiropractor and  I think every single vertebra in my neck popped. I do try to be careful but sometime  it just happens.

Al Please let Marbeth know I am praying for her. I have put her on the prayer chain.

Etta Sue you sure have been busy.

I have just returned from taking Bebe and Happy for their walks.  Bebe is getting so much better about greeting other people. She is finally getting used to the man across the street, she went right up to him and let him pet her.

Good to see you Gord. Praying for yor wife here.

Hi Larry Happy Birthday late to Pat.
