Morning Devotional...

Up in Smoke

"The tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell."
(James 3:5-6)

Words. Use them right and they'll move mountains. Use them wrong and they can cause your entire life to go up in smoke.

"Oh, now," you may say, "I find it hard to believe that major catastrophes can be caused by a few simple words. I just can't see the connection."

Look again at the phrase James used. "How great a matter a little fire kindleth!" Have you ever lit a few little pieces of kindling wood and set them in the fireplace beneath a stack of logs?

What happened?

Most likely, the fire began to spread first to one log then to another until finally you had a great big blaze going. After it was over, you couldn't go digging around in the ashes to find the kindling that started it all, could you? No! It would be burned. There would be no trace of it at all.

The tongue is like that. It first defiles the body, then sets on fire the whole course of nature with a blaze so great that it leaves no natural trace of its origin. The words that started it end up so deeply buried in the ashes that you would never even know they were there.

So, don't ever underestimate the power of your words. I can assure you, Satan doesn't. He works constantly to get you to turn them in a negative direction. He'll fire darts of pain and sickness and discouragement at you just to get you to speak faithless words--words that will eventually send your life up in smoke.

Don't let him succeed. Instead, put out that fire by following the instructions in Ephesians 6:16. Do as the Apostle Paul says and "above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."

Speak words of faith and stop the fire before it starts today!

Welcome back Janet. Glad you got your computer fixed. Great devotional this morning too.

I have  special  :grouphug: and  <3 to you all from Mieka. I had a nice chat with  her on Yahoo last evening. I just happened to be at my computer when the little Yahoo pop up came up in the right hand corner of my screen telling me she was online, so quickly I got on and say hello. It sure surprised her. She misses all of us and I encouraged her to come on to say hello.

I am up again very early this morning. I think it is the pain pill that keeps me from sleeping.  :clobber: I took one when I went to bed because my neck and upper back was still hurting. The last time I took a pain pill at bedtime it kept me awake all night.  I won't  be doing that again. However, I am pain free right now. so I am having my  :coffee:

Good morning, all!

Marilyn, sleepless nights are rough!  Hope you get some improvement there.

Janet, so good to see you.  I hope you have a great day.

I've got to get to work.  I'm years behind, it seems like, and no end of the tunnel in sight yet.  And Karma's desperately longing for a vacation.  So am I, I just don't have time to think about it!

Good day to all!

Good morning everyone.  Marilyn, I can certainly empatthize with your problems.  They are of no fun at all.  Lovely words, Janet.

To answer some questions in the comment areas in my gallery.  Yes, those are my pets.  Phoebe is the matriarch figure and is almost 9 now.  TBone and Porterhouse are brothers out of the same litter (not Phoebe) and they are almost 5.  DeeDee is my wife's Burmese Cat.

So, don't ever underestimate the power of your words.

There have been times when has the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and said "Don't say that."  And yet I've went ahead and said it anyway.  And then I witnessed the hurt that those words caused.

Will I ever learn to listen and obey the Holy Spirit?  Yes, I hope so.

PBPWMGNFY....Please be patient with me.  God's not finished yet.

JANET:  Thank you for the devotion that reminded me how sharp and destructive the tongue can be

It's so good to have you back, Janet.  Thanks for the timely words today.

Well, I no longer live on my own here.  My granddaughter moved in last night.  It will take her awhile to get settled I'm sure.

Carl, feel free to post under the photos the replies to any question just in case they are from any who don't visit the New Every Morning.  There are a few.

I have so much to do today in my house that I better go get started.  I want to take Kathleen out too for a grocery shopping expedition too to get some things in the house that she likes to eat.

I'll be back later.

I often wish that my life were a movie that could be rewound to eliminate the stupid and wrong things I've said and done.

Then I realize that I CAN change what I do in the future, and for some absolutely insane reason I find myself repeating my past mistakes verbatim.

Doesn't seem like I learn my lessons so well after all, does it?

What a wonderful verse for today on our left sidebar:

Today's Verse

Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

Good Morning Everyone!

Janet ~ Great words of wisdom.  Glad you have a working pc again.

Pat ~ Kathleen will be great company for you, Geordie and Lauren.  See, you have lots to keep you company now!

Marilyn ~ I am glad you are pain-free.  Gosh, when I take a pain pill, I sleep like the dead!

Nards ~ Careful now.  You posted twice.  And that is twice as nice for the rest of us.  So happy to see you posting.  Think positive about a vacation.....SOON!

ohenry ~ Thanks for explaining about your furkids.  Pets are great, hunh?

Ed ~ I have bit my tongue many times wanting to say something and God is telling me 'No!'  Sometimes God wins out, sometimes my tongue wins out.  But when the tongue wins, no one wins.

Photography Guild was great.  Such beautiful photos.  Each member is allowed to bring 4 photos...on CD's, in slides or printed and matted...for the members to 'gently critique.  I rushed outside yesterday and took some photos and figured this time they won't gently critique.  But I was pleasantly surprised.  I had some that had some hot-spots in them but that was my fault because it was at noon and I should have known better!

Today I am going to fix pizza for Ivalou's two granddaughters that are from Ohio while Ivalou goes to her high school class luncheon.  Lydia is 7 and a delight.  Kara just turned 13 and has suddenly gotten that 'everyone is dumb but me' attitude.  :idiot:   I think I like the 'terrible twos' better.

A tune ramblin' through my brain as I gathered the trash to take out for pickup....

There is power, power, wonder working power
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is power, power, wonder working power
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

Of course, in my version I do 4 repeats of power (there is power, power, power, power, wonder working power)

It's gonna be a great day because there IS power in the blood of the Lamb!

Hi everyone.  We are hot and humid here in Georgia with little chance of rain for a few days.  My yard is still looking very nice after they cut it yesterday.  However, it won't take long before it begins to brown up from the lack of moisture.

Janet, so glad to see you back and know that your computer is fixed again.  That was a great devotional and so true.  I have always remembered one of the things I learned as a Mason and that is "if you cannot speak well of a person, you can at least remain silent".  I find I never regret what I haven't said and sometimes regret a lot things said in haste or anger.

Marilyn, glad you are without pain this morning and thanks for telling us of your conversation with Mieka.

Nards, I am not sure what your work is but I can assure you that you will always be overloaded and as long as you are willing to be overworked your employer will be happy to have you do it.  Speaking as one who was a workaholic and ruined my health as a result let me encourage you to schedule a vacation and take it.  You will be a more effective employee when you return refreshed and revitalized.

Pat, I am glad you have someone there with you now and hope the arrangement works out very well.  I assume your granddaughter is driving and if so, can help you get places when you don't feel like driving.

Ohenry, you can go ahead and send me your list.  :)  I am not saying what will happen to it.

Gord, know your wife's situation is a source of great concern.  I hope the medication does its job without doing damage.  That is always a concern with medication.

Al, I agree with your comments on we Presbyterians.  There are so many wonderful and spirit filled people a part of congregation.  Unfortunately our church, as you all have probably read, is in a relative state of crisis.  It is good to know that God is faithful and will see us through this time or lead us where we need to be.  I am afraid that being socially correct has become more important that being Godly and Biblically correct.  This is not the place for further details but it is a very serious matter in our denomination.

This afternoon we have the good fortune of having our medical missionary from our church here for supper and I am going to help her learn to use her Publisher software and probably PaintShop Pro or Irfanview to resize pictures.  She has been to many coutries leading medical teams.  If you interested here is a link to our church website, then click on Missions on the left and  scroll down on that page until you see Betsy Christensen.

I have a lot to do today so better move on for now.  May we each recognize God's many blessings to us this day.

What a wonderful day!  I'm so happy to read all of your posts, you are all frineds to me.  Some of you I may never meet in person until we reach the other side, but it's a comfort to come here and visit with you all.

At our workout this morning, Kristi had something new for us.  Sword fighting!!  :o  And, boy, what a workout that was!  I was prespiring like crazy and breathing really hard....must have worked off a bunch of calories that way!  We went outside into the park and did the drills in the shade.  There was a nice breeze, so that helped, even though the humidity was high today.  Darrel wasn't sure if he liked it or not, but I thought it was fun.  (Can you just picture two "kids" like us, out there sword fighting?) hehehehehe.

We need to go to the Senior Center.  They are having people there today to discuss the options about the Care Home......namely, whether to build new or remodel.  Since we have two family members living there, we need to hear it.  Remodeling would be a problem because when it was built, in the 1960s, they poured concrete over all the plumbing.  They used to do that a lot, but it sure is a problem down the line.

I hope none of you ever get the Sality virus, in any form!  What a bad actor it is.  :P  And COSTLY, not to mention losing everyithing you have on your computerr.  Rats!

My Abby is having her NINTH birthday on Friday!  :o  That just doesn't seem possible!  (I'm sure none of you has ever said that about a grandchild, right?)  ;)  She is getting a keyboard so she can begin piano lessons, and I'm really thrilled about that.

I must go, but will be back later on.

My goodness, where is everyone today?  Guess we all like to post early, then get "out and about!"

Ohenry, Power in the Blood was one of my Dad's favorites.  I miss him still.........

Tomorrow, I have to take Beth to a Urologist in Garden City, so will be away all afternoon.  We have a Ladies' Luncheon at noon and she wants to go to that, even though we will have to leave early.

My new business is off to a good start!  I'm very excited about being able to help people in this way.  Finding help for Darrel, Beth and Mom was my primary motivation, and I keep thinking of others that can benefit as well.  If you have health issues and want to find something completely safe that is helping thousands and thousands of people with many different conditions, email me for information.  I don't want to use CP as a business forum; not at all.  I'm already feeling so much more energetic and optimistic on this product!  :) ;D 8) :cool:

I think I will go see if the mail has arrived.  See y'all later!

They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Revelation 7:14

Words & Music: Lewis E. Jones, 1899

Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Would you o'er evil a victory win?
There's wonderful power in the blood.

Refrain
There is power, power, wonder working power
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is power, power, wonder working power
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary's tide;
There's wonderful power in the blood.

Refrain

Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Sin stains are lost in its life giving flow.
There's wonderful power in the blood.

Refrain

Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There's wonderful power in the blood.

Refrain

Mmmmmmmm, Judy!  How I would love some fresh blueberries.  We rarely ever get them around here, and of course when we do, they have been shipped great distances.  I hope you make a fistful of money!  :)

Pat, how are you and Kathleen doing?  It is nice to know you will have help when needed, and not be so lonely, too.  I know there will be adjustments for both of you, but that shouldn't be hard with a grandchild.  ;)

Funny little story about Abby:  She went for a sleepover with a cousin at the cousin's grandma's house, and called me the next day to tell me about it.  She said they stayed up all night, talking.  I asked "What did you talk about?", and .........are you ready for this?????.......she answered, "Dolly Parton and Democrats!"  :lol:

I think I will hit the sack now.
