Sin presents temptation as an immediate good.
~John Owen~
How To Give To God's Work
Matthew 6:19-21 says...
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mark 12:41-44 says...
And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Morning Devotional...Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Eph. 5:19
The most important resource for our spiritual walk is the Bible.
The trustworthy Word of God gives the infallible rule of faith and practice--an absolute essential to guide us daily.
But the hymnal too is important and has become a blessed heritage of the Church--filled with expressions of loving response to God. The lyrics combined with pleasing harmony minister joy which strengthens and encourages. It helps us to rise above difficulties on the way.
A dear woman once told me, "Sometimes we just have to take the hymnbook and sing our way through."
Maybe we need to do that today.

"Who hath made man's mouth?" Exodus 4:11
Words: John Needham, d.c. 1786
Music: "Duke Street," attributed to John Hatton, 1793
Awake, my soul, to joyful lays,
And sing thy great Redeemer's praise;
He justly claims a song from me -
His lovingkindness, O how free!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how free!
He saw me ruined in the fall,
Yet loved me notwithstanding all;
He saved me from my lost estate -
His lovingkindness, O how great!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how great!
Though numerous hosts of mighty foes,
Though earth and hell my way oppose,
He safely leads my soul along -
His lovingkindness, O how strong!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how strong!
When trouble, like a gloomy cloud,
Has gathered thick and thundered loud,
He near my soul has always stood -
His lovingkindness, O how good!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how good!
Often I feel my sinful heart
Prone from my Jesus to depart;
But though I have him oft forgot,
His lovingkindness changes not.
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness changes not.
Soon I shall pass the gloomy vale,
Soon all my mortal powers must fail;
O! may my last expiring breath
His lovingkindness sing in death.
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness sing in death.
Then let me mount and soar away
To the bright world of endless day;
And sing with raptures and surprise,
His lovingkindness in the skies.
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness in the skies.

How many of us have fallen into this pit?
Night and blessings all.
DEUTERONOMY 7 : 19 NIV
You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the miraculous signs and wonders,
the Mighty Hand and outstreched arm, with which the Lord your God brought
you out.
The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
So often we look at the past work of God and think we will not see the
display of His power like our predecessors did.
But, just as God reminded a new generation of His people that He would
go with them and empower them like He had their parents, we also need
to expect Him to do more than all we can ask or even imagine by His power
at work within us! (Ephesians 3 : 20)
PRAYER...
Almighty God who is infinitely able to work with power and might,
we ask that You use Your power to call the unsaved to Jesus in our generation.
Please use us to be Your tools and do in our day the great work of
redemption, reconciliation, and revival like You have done in years gone by.
Father, we believe in Your power and Your desire to save.
Please act mightily to redeem our generation.
In Jesus name i pray. AMEN.
Phil Ware.

Hi Pat, great devotional. I was posting last night and some popups pushed me out. I had to shut down. What I was saying about berries was that I will make some jam. Do you have a good recipe. I was talking to Aunty Flo about blackcurrant jam, but she didn't know where her recipe was. I remember she would make blackcurrant pie.
Well I am off to work today and then holidays. Have a wonderful day everyone. God Bless.

I know that this applies to the Israelites that God brought out of Egypt, however, it also applies to my life because God brought me out of my own personal Egypt (wilderness) experience into His marvelous light when He saved me from the pits of hell. This scripture from Deuteronomy really hit me between the eyes this morning.
Yesterday our message was on not looking back or falling back into our past lives. Pastor used one verse from the story of Samson, where after Delilah cut off his hair that when he woke up he did not know that God's spirit had left him. Judges 16:20 Pastor was on fire yesterday and passionate about staying in the word, and walking in the word in our daily lives.
Last night Willa (Pastor's mother and my good friend) asked me if I would like to join her at the church every night to pray for an hour. Of course I jumped on it, I love to pray. It seems so much more intimate in the sanctuary ever if there are others present. If just feels like am alone with God and Jesus and there are no distractions.
If you have some special prayer requests, please email them to me and Willa and I will take them before the throne for you. Requests that you may not want to post on the internet.

Good Morning!
It's good to see your posts. I'm just sitting here waiting for Saturn to phone me. Then I'll start the ball rolling to get it fixed. It's actually over at a gas station right now but I thought I'd try one more time to deal with Saturn.
We've been having so much rain here. It's sure saving our gardens from needing to be watered. How are your gardens this year? Do you put a garden in?
I'm so happy to read all of the comments from people who have been posting in the Poll topic. That's the only way we really get to know if people like or dislike change so if you haven't posted there, please do.
Hi Karma and Soni! Thanks for checking in. Hope you both have good days today.
When do you get holidays,
Ruthie? Are you working just today and then you have holidays this week? We'll have to get together.

Church was awesome yesterday. David was back from Phoenix after attending the North American Christian Church Conference and vacationing for a couple of weeks. Attendance was high. I love hearing David preach.
Then Jerry and I went to Teen Church. Danny is a new father...Katie Grace was born May 4. So Danny is young. Just what the teens need. Someone that can relate to what teens are going through today. Yesterday's sermon was on sex, rated PG13. Yes, the S word. Danny's whole sermon was on the S word backed up by Bible verses. After saying the S word a couple of dozen times, he realized that some people would rather hear another word....so he changed the S word to Bagel. Then asked how many people had a bagel for breakfast before coming to church? Then said that some married couples had bagel that morning which is pleasing to God. Bagel is one way married couples worship God. Danny preached a touchy subject with laughter, without shame or embarrassment and backed by Biblical verses. I won't go on further but if any of you would like the audio tape of the sermon, just send me an email request and I will copy and mail the sermon to you.
Next week will be a continuation of his sermon. So if you wait, you can get two tapes for the mailing of one. What a deal!!!

Interesting sermon, Etta Sue!
Re new features with this "look"--I like that on every page, you can go up to the top and click on New Messages and not miss any. On the old look, we had to be on the main page to get anything like that.
That is a great feature, Pat. Does it go to where you last read them or do you have to manually go to that spot? I haven't tried it, yet. Just like to get a glimpse of what is going on before hand...:)
I'm not sure exactly, Etta Sue. But I'm using it all the time since yesterday so it's taking me to the last post in the topic. But I can see where I left off easily.
I think that will be a good feature.

Thanks for the laugh!
Hi everyone.
Janet, so sorry to read that Beth had declined in her ability to get around. It certainly sounds like she is going to have to seek other living arrangements where she can get the help she needs. I hope you have some fine facilities available to provide such assistance.
Etta Sue, yesterday before our services started our church honored our youth pastor as he has now been at our church for 10 years. He is the longest serving youth pastor in the same congregation within our whole Presbytry. Our young folks just love him as he is a real character and has lots of energy. He is just part time at our church and runs a Christian music management agency during the rest of his time.
Pat, I hope you have a good experience with Saturn. I don't plan to take mine back as it is out of warranty and the dealers really pump up their repair prices. Hope that is not your experience.
Marilyn, it sounds like your pastor was stressing about the same thing as ours was yesterday, i.e., staying in the word. That reminds me that I haven't done my Bible reading and devotional time for today but will shortly.
Ria, sorry to hear that you are having to see the doctor again. Ria, if you name is Maria Martha how did you get the screenname of Ria? Nosey aren't I? :D
Ruthie and Pat, I don't think I have ever tasted anything make with black currents. That jam sounds good. I prefer jam to jelly as it stays on the toast better.
Nards, sorry to read that your days are so hectic. I spent 5 years under tremendous stress and it wrecked my health. Hope you can find appropraite ways to exercise and otherwise relieve the stress as stress can be so hard on us.
Papa John, sorry that Steve wasn't feeling as well yesterday. Hope they don't send him home before he is ready.
Ladybug, your illustration on fasting is certainly appropriate. I hadn't thought of things in that regard
Guess I had better get busy on some other projects. I already spent about 90 minutes working on my frames and finished the sawing and sanding today. Yesterday I bought some glue called "Ultimate Glue" made by Elmers. My friends had told me about a great new glue that bonds quickly and is very strong but this morning they said it was called "Gorilla Glue" not "Ultimate Glue". Haven't decided whether to take what I have back and get the other or just proceed with what I bought. Don't plan to work on the project anymore today as it is getting hot.
Hello. I am really tired, as I had another sleepless night. I finally got tired of fighting the bed, got up and went in the living room and read until 6:00 AM, then got about an hour of sleep. Abby, Beth and I went swimming, that helps me to feel better, but I am weary.
We are checking to see if we can rent or borrow a lightweight wheelchair for Beth for the week. She barely made it into and out of the pool building today, and inside from the car. Her left foot just refuses to obey her. I can't lift a heavy one into and out of the car, and Darrel has been having a lot of trouble with his back. I hope we can get some help for her.
Larry, the only place here that Beth could get the help she needs is the care home, and she doesn't want to live with a lot of elderly folks, many of whom are not in their right minds any more. I can't blame her. The assisted living facility here is really nice, but really pricey, too! We are going to check into some low income apartments that are handicapped accessible, and Darrel will get her a panic alert button that will call us if she falls, etc.
I have lots to do today, and we will be away tomorrow to take Beth to Amarillo. I will probably be back later, though.
Janet, I am SO sorry to hear you guys are having it kind of tough. It helps me to hear it though, because it reminds me that my piddly little problems really aren't that bad. Hang in there. God bless you :-)
nard
That is so true, Nards! When we read of problems that others are having it really makes our own seems so (as you call it) piddly.
Thinking a lot of you, Janet and praying hard. That alarm would be good for Beth.

That is part of Darrel's alarm business, and he has the ones his Mom used before moving to assisted living. I think he just has to call the company or re-program them. The time has come. :'( We called, and we can rent a wheelchair for a week or a month, and they will let us apply the rental price toward the purchase price if it appears she will need to keep it. Having everyone know you is one of the perks of small town living. :)
I need to run to town and see about that and some other stuff. I'd rather take a nap! ::)
WELCOME HOME TRISH AND JACOB!!!
Larry try Insta-cure bought at a hobby craft store. The technical name is cyanoacrylate. It is super thin and instantly bonds wood. It is often used by crafters who use balsa wood. Don't know what you are glueing, but this might be an answer if you need a fast stick.
Also Larry I had to look back on what I had said about fasting to see what you were refirring to!
We are outside again today, weeding. It amazes me how fast the weeds grow and drown out the good vegetables. Sin is like that too. If we allow a weed to grow it can so soon drown out the Word. WE always need to be alert to the Lords prompting and weed daily.
Our new member has posted in our Photography Techniques area and asked a question. Hope some can help Dave out.

Hello Everyone!
How is everyone today? I am doing pretty good.
My husband took tonight off and is going Huckleberry Picking the next 2 days.
If you don't know what huckleberries are-they are just like a blueberry but a little
more tart..They make wonderful Pie's and Shakes.
Not much else has been happening-I will begin school with the kids starting the first.
Still working hard on my new business.

Words: Henry J. Zelley, in Gospel Praise, by William Kirkpatrick and Henry Gilmour (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Hall-Mack Co., 1899).
Music: George H. Cook
Walking in sunlight all of my journey;
Over the mountains, through the deep vale;
Jesus has said, "I'll never forsake thee,"
Promise divine that never can fail.
Refrain
Heavenly sunlight, heavenly sunlight,
Flooding my soul with glory divine:
Hallelujah, I am rejoicing,
Singing His praises, Jesus is mine.
Shadows around me, shadows above me,
Never conceal my Savior and Guide;
He is the Light, in Him is no darkness;
Ever I'm walking close to His side.
Refrain
In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing,
Pressing my way to mansions above;
Singing His praises gladly I'm walking,
Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love.

Ohhhh, Soni. May I come too? It's very humid here today.
Hello all,
I'm sorry I haven't been posting lately - things are crazy!
To make a long story not quite as long, too long to ever be a short story: Our singing group went on a "tour" around the Dallas/Fort Worth area where we went to an art museum. I loved it - and believe I've been called back to my real talent. I want to draw and paint and sculpt. I love photography, but my last few attempts have just failed. Later on that trip we went to a biblical art museum and my feelings were confirmed. So I'm gearing up to start that again.
Then I got rear-ended going to work one day. It totaled our Ford Explorer and I escaped with a very minor case of whiplash. We finally got our settlement a few days ago. What a hassle that was. But we were able to get a better vehicle and today we paid it off. We also got a little extra money that they give for "reasonable pain and suffering" which we plan to give away. So funny how God works - we needed a new vehicle but couldn't sell ours for what we got out of insurance money. All the radio programs I've listened to lately are talking about the verse in Matthew that was posted on this very website today!
God is GREAT!!!
Shawn
Cool new look for the website by the way, Gosh, I'm gone for a month and everything's new! I appreciate this website and even though I don't post often, God uses it to minister to me in a lot of ways. Thank you.
Thanks so much for posting, Shawn. We have some artists on here. Janet has some awesome work and one of our newer members, Hayley (who is on vacation right now) does pen and ink and it's gorgeous.
I hope you'll add to our "Creations with a Brush" area soon.
I'm sorry about your accident. I suffered whiplash many years ago and it wasn't too pleasant.
Please keep in touch, Shawn. We'll also pray about your decisions that you will definitely know what is the Lord's will in this big decision.

That which you have hold fast till I come.
Revelation 2:25
Words & Music: Philip P. Bliss.
Bliss wrote this song after hearing Daniel Whittle relate
the following incident that occurred during the American Civil War:
Just before [William Tecumseh] Sherman began his famous march to the sea in 1864, and while his army lay camped in the neighborhood of Atlanta [Georgia] on the 5th of October, the army of Hood, in a carefully prepared movement, passed the right flank of Sherman's army, gained his rear, and commenced the destruction of the railroad leading north, burning blockhouses and capturing the small garrisons along the line. Sherman's army was put in rapid motion pursuing Hood, to save the supplies and larger posts, the principal one of which was located at Altoona Pass. General Corse, of Illinois, was stationed there with about fifteen hundred men, Colonel Tourtelotte being second in command. A million and a half rations were stored here and it was highly important that the earthworks commanding the pass and protecting the supplies be held. Six thousand men under command of General French were detailed by Hood to take the position. The works were completely surrounded and summoned to surrender. Corse refused and a sharp fight commenced. The defenders were slowly driven into a small fort on the crest of the hill. Many had fallen, and the result seemed to render a prolongation of the fight hopeless. At this moment an officer caught sight of a white signal flag far away across the valley, twenty miles distant, upon the top of Kenesaw Mountain. The signal was answered, and soon the message was waved across from mountain to mountain:
"Hold the fort; I am coming. W. T. Sherman."
Cheers went up; every man was nerved to a full appreciation of the position; and under a murderous fire, which killed or wounded more than half the men in the fort—Corse himself being shot three times through the head, and Tourtelotte taking command, though himself badly wounded—they held the fort for three hours until the advance guard of Sherman's army came up. French was obliged to retreat.

Ho, my comrades! see the signal waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.
Refrain
"Hold the fort, for I am coming," Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, "By Thy grace we will."
See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!
Refrain
See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader's Name we triumph over ev'ry foe.
Refrain
Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!
Refrain

Janet I do believe that Medicare will pay for a wheelchair for Beth. Even a Power Chair or Scooter.
Marilyn, that's what the one place told me today. They loaned us a brand new wheelchair for as long as we need it, so that we have time to see what Beth's prognosis will be. Her Medicare goes into effect the first of August. You have to get a doctor's order for them. Right now, we just don't know what to expect. But we can't get the wheelchair into the car trunk. :( Have to take off the foot supports and put it between the seats. Not handy at all.
I took my paintings out to enter in the fair, was coming home and got stopped by a cop. He said I was driving 39 in a 30 zone, was there some reason I was driving so fast? I said I guess I just wasn't paying attention. :( He took my license and went back to his car, and I was so emotioally overwrought and so tired that by the time he brought it back, I was in tears. He did NOT give me a ticket, and for that I thank God. That would have been the last straw.
Oh, how I hope I can sleep tonight. I'm about to the end of my endurance.
Dear Janet
You have had more than enough. When you are driving use cruise, That will help monitor your speed and try to get more sleep. I wish I could help you in some way.

Pat: Yes I will be busy starting tonight and every night except Wednesday night and Sunday night because on Sunday prayer is at 4pm to 5pm and Wed. is Bible Study. We may pray on
Wed. from 6-7, I don't know yet. But this is something that will be very good for me as I have slacked off my evening prayer time over the past couple of years, praying only after I have gone to bed and usually falling asleep in the middile of my prayers.
Hey Y-all I would love to have you email me your SPECIAL prayer requests. I am putting together another Prayer journal just for these nightly prayer sessions I have a big notebook here at home that I use here but I will be putting together a much smaller one that I can carry with me where ever I go. So PLEASE send me your personal requests. No one will see them except me and Willa.

Thanks, Ladybug, I can sure use some hugs! Thank goodness, I won't be driving tomorrow, as Darrel is going with us and will do the driving.

Janet, I feel so bad :( for you. I can't imagine how trying and stressful your life is right now. (https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sonifopictures.com%2Fgraphics%2Fblowkiss.gif&hash=8b432f980e8930cd35482a0c6456a6671bb92a33)
Marilyn, that is such an awesome thing you are doing. Way to go!!!
Ohhh, Janet! I'm so sorry about what you've been going through. Wish I were closer.
That was so nice of the policeman though.
This is for you, Janet...(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fchristianphotographers.com%2Fforum%2Fgraphics%2Fisaiah41_10.jpg&hash=d65fd86c8981299443da831f4d08a9ee9395132a)
That is awesome, Pat! You are the best at those. You know...I get my inspiration from your stuff. Keep it up!
Thanks so much, Soni. That verse has meant so very much to me lately so thought I'd just share it with our Janet.
Now, let's all sing this with Janet... Janet, this storm in your life WILL pass by...

Words and Music by Mosie Lister
Mark 4:39
"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,
Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howl above me, and there's no hiding place.
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try,
For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by"
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies.
Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore;
In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.
Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Thanks, Soni, for the kisses! ;)
Yes, Pat, I know He will, and I am ever thankful for that. Jesus knows all about our troubles, He is a kind, compassionate friend.
I don't at this moment recall the rest of that song, but it's true.
Thanks for the encouraging verse. I love you!
Thanks for the devotional, Pat. I am enjoying the music as Squeek meows in the background. How I love the hymns!
Had a busy day and not enough time to read all the posts. Sorry to hear about your daughter Janet. Can certainly relate and will also pray for Beth. Wendy is going to have the Disclosure Hearing about the accident in a couple of weeks....two years + since it happened. What a terrible time it has been....both physical and financial. She is never going to be well again, so money will only help to ease the stress.
I am going upstairs to help Amanda roll pennies. They have huge jars filled and are using them on their holiday to Alberta. She is up to $71.00 so far....going to be a long evening. As they say....a penny saved is a penny earned...or some such thing.
Will be alone for a week, looking after the huge garden, five bunnies (one pregnant) a bird and the cat. The temp. is supposed to be going into the 30'sC (90's F.) and I have hours of watering to do each day. Oh joy!
I am reading an interesting book written by a Christian father, who wrote it in order to read to his sons. He wrote something that stuck in my mind:
We and the world, my children, will always be at war.
Retreat is impossible. Arm yourselves.
So true...we must arm ourselves with the word of God. How else can we defend our children and ourselves.
Pleasant dreams and God Bless.
Liz
It's been a good day in New Every Morning. We've shared with each other. We're praying for one another and that's so important. Let's remember Janet as she travels this morning.
Now, it's time to lock the door on today's NEM and open a new one.
