A man full of hope will be full of action.

Over the past little while we've been sharing scripture and we've covered three areas of our life...
- Beginning in Christ
- Growing In Christ
- Maturing In Christ
and now tonight we are starting...

What Is The Way To True Service?
Mark 8:34-37 says...
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Morning Devotional...It came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. Luke 24:51-52
Watching friends and relatives saying "goodbye" at airports is always a traumatic sight. For a time those left behind feel bereft.
The disciples, however, had been fully briefed by the Lord in "the things concerning Himself." They believed and felt His promise "I am with you always," and they were so excited at the prospect of preaching the gospel that there were no heavy hearts.
Only God could have turned what would otherwise have been a "wake" into "worship."
Remember, though unseen, He is with you.

dismiss your gloomy, groundless fears

"The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you."
Romans 16:20
Words and music by Haldor Lillenas
Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it,
Where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden,
Setting my spirit free;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.
Refrain
Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Wonderful grace, all sufficient for me, for even me.
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame,
O magnify the precious Name of Jesus.
Praise His Name!
Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned,
Saved to the uttermost,
Chains have been torn asunder,
Giving me liberty;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.
Refrain
Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power,
Making him God's dear child,
Purchasing peace and heaven,
For all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

EZEKIEL 7 : 8 NIV
I am about to pour my wrath on
you and spend my anger against you;
I will judge you according to your conduct
and repay you for all your detestable practices.
Because God's people had repeatedly
rebelled and chosen to turn an unhearing
ear toward His will, God is about to let them
face the consequences of their own sinfulness.
He is ready to judge them using the harshest
of standards because of their entrenched rebellion.
We must remember that He wants us to be a
Holy people just as much as He did His Old
Testament people.
Let's be faithful to Him, no matter the values
of our culture.
PRAYER...
O God, please do not
rebuke me in Your wrath,
but ecourage me to live
for You no matter my
circumstances or my culture.
I want to be faithful to You
in all i do, say, and think.
In Jesus name i pray. AMEN

That's quite the prayer!
Sounds like your door will be nice. Are you having special patterned glass put in, Ria?
Good Morning Many thanks to Pat and ria for the devotionals today.
I am running late because I stopped to pray for a friend on the internet for about 20 minutes and got started late in getting ready for work. I must go now and will catch up with the reading and all y-all later today when I get back home.
TTYL
Thank you, Pat and Ria, for the great devotionals today. Much food for thought.
I added two laps to my morning swim today. I want to shed some pounds and am not having good success at that.
Beth called yesterday, she is doing well, except that she is in constant pain and her meds are not helping. She will be home on the 17th.
Today is painting day again, and I want to get the carpets vacuumed before that time, so best get with it!

The Church: Activities
Til I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
--1 Timothy 4:13
In an effort to get the work of the Lord done we often lose contact
with the Lord of the work and quite literally wear our people out
as well. I have heard more than one pastor boast that his church
was a "live" one, pointing to the printed calendar as a proof--
something on every night and several meetings during the day. Of
course this proves nothing except that the pastor and the church are
being guided by a bad spiritual philosophy. A great many of these
time-consuming activities are useless and others plain ridiculous.
"But," say the eager beavers who run the religious squirrel cages,
"they provide fellowship and they hold our people together."
To this I reply that what they provide is not fellowship at all, and
if that is the best thing the church has to offer to hold the people
together it is not a Christian church in the New Testament meaning
of that word. The center of attraction in a true church is the Lord
Jesus Christ....
If the many activities engaged in by the average church led to the
salvation of sinners or the perfecting of believers they would
justify themselves easily and triumphantly; but they do not. My
observations have led me to the belief that many, perhaps most, of
the activities engaged in by the average church do not contribute in
any way to the accomplishing of the true work of Christ on earth. I
hope I am wrong, but I am afraid I am right. That Incredible
Christian, 136-137.
"Those are harsh words, Lord, and it's easy for me to say, 'Well,
that's not true of my church.' But help me, Lord, to be willing even
today to look at our church program and evaluate what we do in the
light of the truth of this challenge. Amen."

Ria ~ What a wonderful prayer! I must write that down so I can memorize it. Thanks a lot. We are all from different backgrounds and culture. What may be right for one, may not be right for another. This prayer lets me know that no matter the circumstances or culture, you can be faithful to God in all you do, say and think.
At Bible study we were discussing that we all think that people are attending church more, being baptized, and stating they are Christians more. What did we think was the movement behind this great happening for Christ? My opinion for me, personally, my opinion only, is the different revisions of the Bible. I know some people think that the KJV is the only true revision but if that were the only one, I feel that I wouldn't be a Christian today because when I read KJV, it is like reading a foreign language. I understand some of the words but not all of them. So I found a version that I understood and then I could feel myself growing in God. I like to compare versions...I have many so one version isn't the only version I read.
I would like to know if others feel their area is growing in God and why or why not?»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«,¸¸,»ïÏï«

Pat, I've finally put in a prayer request about my Mum... :)

Today's CyberSmile. . .
LIKE many cello players, I sometimes get an odd buzz on one of the strings. A rubber cylinder helps damp the troublesome tone. One of these was mixed in with my pocket change, which I had pulled out while at the coffee machine. "What's that?" the woman standing next to me asked. "If you put it on your G-string," I explained without thinking, "you won't hear any wolf notes."

I have been thinking about the storms we go through.
Those in southern Ontario are having weather alerts all the time it seems this summer. Haley is painting and having the heat "fry" as she paints.
Then there are all the prayer requests. Each of these situations is an individual storm. And we often forget that the storms of life has a Master willing to control it. We need to let go of the tiller and let the Master of the wind and waves take hold. He will not fight us for control, but wait.
There is a story about our Lord in a boat that was being beaten by the waves. There is one important fact about this story that lies hidden - that we landlubbers don't think about. Where was Jesus asleep? "At the back of the boat"... What is at the back of the boat? The helm...the place of steering...the place of control.
"And a furious storm of wind of hurricane proportions arose and the waves kept beating the boat, so that it was already becoming filled. But he was in the (hinder part) stern of the boat, asleep on a cushion; and they awoke him, "Master, do you not care that we are perishing?"
And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Hush now! Be still, <muzzled>! And the wind ceased as if exhaused from by its beating and there was immediately a great calm <a perfect peacefulness>.
He said to them, Why are you so timid and fearful? How is it you have no faith <no firmly relying trust>?"
Amplified Mark 4:27-40
He is in the hind part of our boat too. We just have to give him the controls and let him guide us through the storm!
Sarah, you might try this site for Children's Bible Stories. I'm sure there are many such places on the internet. http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/kidstoc.htm
Papa John
Hi Meika. It is good to meet you too. I like the ABC and XYZ too! There are lots of books and commentaries to read, but if you pray that God open your eyes as you open His Word, He will and you will gain some awesome insight that will be so new to you. Then yo will say thank you?
May God bless you as you learn.

MASTER, THE TEMPEST IS RAGING (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/master_the_tempest_is_raging.mid)[/u]
(Click to hear music)
Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o'ershadowed with blackness,
No shelter or help is nigh;
Carest Thou not that we perish?
How canst Thou lie asleep,
When each moment so madly is threatening
A grave in the angry deep?
Refrain
The winds and the waves obey Thy will,
Peace, be still!
Whether the wrath of the storm tossed sea,
Or demons or men, or whatever it be
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean, and earth, and skies;
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will,
Peace, be still! Peace, be still!
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will,
Peace, peace, be still!
Master, with anguish of spirit
I bow in my grief today;
The depths of my sad heart are troubled
Oh, waken and save, I pray!
Torrents of sin and of anguish
Sweep o'er my sinking soul;
And I perish! I perish! dear Master
Oh, hasten, and take control.
Refrain
Master, the terror is over,
The elements sweetly rest;
Earth's sun in the calm lake is mirrored,
And heaven's within my breast;
Linger, O blessèd Redeemer!
Leave me alone no more;
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor,
And rest on the blissful shore.
Refrain

Hi Everyone... hope all is well.
Hi everyone. I have just now finished going back to July 1st and read through all the postings here on NEM. While we were away I didn't have the computer time available to read the messages.
I am delighted to see we have several new folks joining us and I say welcome to you all.
I was happy to read several praise reports but saddened by the reports of pain and suffering by some of our folks and do hope today has been a better day.
As I have many more discussions to read to get caught up here on CP I had better be brief today and will try to write more tomorrow. It is good to be home and back with the dsl connection.
Thanks for the devotionals and the music is nice.
It is a cloudy day here on the island and I feel very lazy and sort of sleepy....rather like Squeek (cat) who is having a nap. Went to the market yest. with Wendy and had many errands to run/walk...so became kinda tired and feeling it today!
Since things seem rather slow, will post a little joke:
A young man had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his minister father if he could discuss the use of the car.
His father took him into his study and said, "I'll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your bible a little, and get your hair cut, and we'll talk about it."
After about a month, the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss use of the car.
They went into the study where his father said, "Son, I've been real proud of you. You have brought your grades up, you've studied your bible diligently, but you didn't get your hair cut!"
The young man waited a moment and replied, "You know Dad, I've been thinking about that. You know, Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, even Jesus had long hair."
To which his father replied, "Yes, and they walked every where they went!"
;D
Pleasant day all and God Bless.
Liz
Hi Mieka: I emailed you and it came back can you please give me your email address.
Well this morning I walked all over the mall for an hour before they opened. I took Gloria to shop at the mall and they weren't open yet so I walked and she rode. We shopped in Mervyns because they were open then went back to Ross at the other end and bought another comforter. She was loaded down with bedding and was sure a funny sight riding along in her wheelchair covered with bags. We have to go back tomorrow and exchange the sheets we got they are too big. She bought a new matteress and box springs it is called a loft bed and is very high.
I have a quirky smile on my face Liz, Thank you.
Dinner is ready, so will most likely be back later.
I can't believe I came to NEM this morning, but read the rest of yesterday's posts, then went zipping off to work.
Senior moments seem to come frequently these days. ???
At any rate, it's wonderful to hear from y'all.
Sarah, I wrote your hotmail address about coming to Nashville, but you never replied. I'm glad it was a good trip. What great things did y'all do while you were enjoying my town?
(HI, Mieka!)
Ruth Ann
Hi Mieka, glad you answered my question. Or at least, gave me insight to the different versions of the Bible. I bookmarked your clickable. Pretty neat sight.
I am here at this time because I got this awesome email. With it was a clickable to a site that really makes one relax and reflect upon their life. Makes one wonder of it all. I would love for each of you to check it out here. (http://wonderofitall.com/) Don't forget to turn the volume up!!!!
See ya'll in the mornin'!!!
Thanks for the link, ETTA SUE! :-* I love it and have saved it to my favs. What a restful beautiful site. :)
Hot and humid today. Gene ran the living room AC for the first time this afternoon and I had to turn it on in the office this evening for about 1/2 hour. :( I wouldn't, except for the computers. But they need less heat and humidity than I do in order to work right. A fine state of affairs when machines run you rather than the other way around. ;D
Hi mieka it's great to meet you :)
I just read through the posts and noticed that Ruth Ann wrote that senior moments come to frequetly ...
I had a senior moment today... :D I rushed to the store to get some last minute things that I had forgotten (for a new reciepe that I was trying out) and realized that my son had already finished his class for the day and would have been waiting on me to pick him up...
in a frazzle, I scrammed to the door with my cart... and flew in to the car park... without a second thought I ran to the back on my van to load it up with my goodies... then realized that the key didn't fit the keyhole... yeap.. it was the wrong van..... hahahahahaha.....
people were watching me as well....... :-[ :D
Thank you Etta Sue for that relaxing presentation about nature. While I was watching it I was aware that an awesome God is the one who is behind all that beauty. The Bible says that people can't help but know there is a Creator when they look at those wonderful scenes. I hope everyone will have the same feeling as I got and be drawn closer to our wonderful God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Love Ruthie
Greetings to all,
I just wanted to say Hello before Craig comes in tonight. It has been 3 days since I saw him. :(. But I am so glad he is almost home about 50 miles of mountain road. I will be checking in over the weekend.
I want to tell you all I got my first test results back for Real Estate with a 80% right. Thank you Jesus.
Well I better go get ready. All my Love~ALMA
Hayley that story of your shopping experience is funny. Not for you but anyone listening to it. Just laugh at it all and know that tomorrow things will probably be better.
Well my chiropractor told me to get more sleep, so I'm going to bed now. It's after 11:00 and I still have to get my cats in.
God Bless everyone
Love Ruthie
