Morning Devotional

John 17:8-10  "For I have given to them the words which You have given Me, and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.  I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those You have given Me, for they are Yours.  And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them."

What's the greatest necessity of life for every human being?  Is it health?  Is it wealth?  Is it friends and family?  A few people believe that it's "taking Jesus as Savior, "  or "taking Him into our hearts."

I'm going way out on a limb.  I believe it's knowing Jesus as having come from God - knowing Him as Son of God.  God is eternal.  Eternity without God is Hell.  It's lostness.  It's absolute and eternal disaster.

But coming to know the only true God is coming to know the One He sent.  To know Jesus deeply is to know God truly.  Next time you think about the Cross, ask yourself what kind of God would send His only begotten Son to die there - to reveal the justice, the holiness, the love, and the mercy of the only true God.  As Jesus already said a few verses sooner, "and this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent."

Rise, My Soul! Behold 'Tis Jesus[/b]
(Click to hear music)

Author:  J. Denham Smith, 1817-1889
Musician:  Psalmodia Sacra Gotha, 1715

Rise, my soul! behold 'tis Jesus,
Jesus fills Thy wond'ring eyes;
See Him now in glory seated,
Where thy sins no more can rise.

There, in righteousness transcendent,
Lo! He doth in heav'n appear,
Shows the blood of His atonement
As thy title to be there.

All thy sins were laid upon Him,
Jesus bore them on the tree;
God, who knew them, laid them on Him,
And, believing, thou art free.

God now brings thee to His dwelling,
Spreads for thee His feast divine,
Bids thee welcome, ever telling
What a portion there is thine.

In that circle of God's favor,
Circle of the Father's love,
All is rest, and rest forever,
All is perfectness above.

Blessed, glorious word "forever!"
Yea, "forever!" is the word;
Nothing can the ransomed sever,
Naught divide them from the Lord.

Well, well ... I'm first in here today (it's still Sunday evening where I live).  Thanks, Al, for not slamming the door on me any way.     :)

QuoteJane, what a beautiful dream and wonderful song.  I'm sure the dream had meaning and the Lord will reveal it to you when it's time.  And what a way to start your day; eh?  In His Presence, fully aware, there is nothing on earth, nor in heaven, to compare.
Thanks, Nita ... you're the only one who noticed.   ;)

I'll be back later ... or earlier, as the case may be ... but no guarantees that I'll have anything to say aloud.  We'll see

Y'all have a wonderful week.[/b]
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Hello all!

Jane, I love having dreams like that.  When I was in college, and having a particulalry troubling time about something, I dreamed I met Jesus, face to face, and we had a little "chat" about it (actually, I was too in awe to say anything).  I remember that dream vividly.  :)

I hope all ya'll have a wonderful week/Monday.  Isn't it Janet that says what you do on Monday will determine how much you do htis week.  Or something like that?  (When is she coming home, anyway?)

I have a lot to do this week, so I'd better get going.  Take care

HAVE YOU COME TO "WHEN" YET?

And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed
     for his friends.

     Job 42:10

The plaintive, self-centred, morbid kind of prayer, a dead-set that I
want to be right, is never found in the New Testament. The fact that
I am trying to be right with God is a sign that I am rebelling
against the Atonement.

"Lord, I will purify my heart if You will
answer my prayer; I will walk rightly if You will help me." I cannot
make myself right with God, I cannot make my life perfect; I can only
be right with God if I accept the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ
as an absolute gift. Am I humble enough to accept it? I have to
resign every kind of claim and cease from every effort, and leave
myself entirely alone in His hands, and then begin to pour out in the
priestly work of intercession.

There is much prayer that arises from
real disbelief in the Atonement. Jesus is not beginning to save us,
He has saved us, the thing is done, and it is an insult to ask Him to
do it.

If you are not getting the hundredfold more, not getting insight into
God's word, then start praying for your friends, enter into the
ministry of the interior. "The Lord turned the captivity of Job when
he prayed for his friends." The real business of your life as a saved
soul is intercessory prayer.

Wherever God puts you in circumstances,
pray immediately, pray that His Atonement may be realized in other
lives as it has been in yours. Pray for your friends now; pray for
those with whom you come in contact now.

Etta Sue

I used to dream such vivid dreams and then wake up wondering why in the world did I dream a dream like that.  Seems now I am up and down so much during the night that I don't have time to dream.

Hi JudyB ~ So great to see you posting.  Missed your wonderful posts.

Today Ivalou is driving and taking a neighbor lady and I to our doctor appointments.  Seems they are at the same time and in the same building...different doctors.  I am going for a cystoscopy to make sure I have al 'clean' bladder...no cancerous tumors.  I feel I am okay...  Then, of course, we are going to eat out somewhere.

Then this evening is my Small Groups Weiner Roast back in the woods.  I will have to load my car and make sure I have everything...I did make a list...and then go back to the woods.  It has been kind of cool so I want to make sure I take a long-sleeved shirt or jacket back there.  It is always cooler in the woods anyway.

Gotta go....

Weird...when I previewed the above post, it said someone had posted while I was composing and it was ME!!!  Weird!!!  That never happened before.

Those little 'Cyber Elves' were at work, Etta Sue.

Looked sunny outside an hour ago...think I may have to change from shorts to slacks for my walk.  Another 'season' seems to be rolling in again :-\  Actually had lots of sun yest. and so didn't even think about using the computer.  Went outside and curled up with Misty in the swing (she didn't ask) and read an interesting book called The Glass Castle.  It is about the life of Jeanette Walls, who is a writer and works for one of the TV networks.

The book is quite disturbing and I find it hard to understand how the human mind works...How much simpler life is when we know Christ.  Read a review of the book and it certainly stated how brave the author is:

Jeannette Walls has done an extraordinary thing. She has faced her secrets, shared them with the world, and thereby robbed them of their power to humiliate and torment. There can be no freedom like it. It is an enormous personal and artistic achievement

We can do the above by turning everything over to Christ...then put it in the past.  Give the power to a greater power ....   My devotional has this little blurb for today:

The question is not where is God, but where isn't He?

Pleasant day all and God Bless.

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Just up from a rest period.  After coffee this morning I had to take Pat for an ultra-sound test and then she stopped at the chiorpractor.  By the time we got home it was time for lunch and then resting.  Haven't I had an exciting day.  I expect the rest of the day will be equally exciting.

Etta Sue, hope your cook-out this evening is a big success.  If you have to drive back to the woods it must be quite a ways from your house.  Don't forget the bug spray.  Hope your test today was once again negative.

Liz, nice to see you are having very pleasnt weather.  I enjoy the adventures of your cats.

Karmat, don't work too hard today.  How was the family reunion?

Hi Jane and Marilyn and all those who stop by later today.

Al Moak

Liz - I too have encountered "cyber-gremlins."  I tried five times to send my son an email, each time carefully checking to see that I had every jot and tittle correct.  Then hit "SEND," then getting a message that it wasn't formatted correctly!  Ugh!  Ugh!  Ugh!  I finally saw it on the last try - I had placed a "(" before the .com!  I never had to deal with such things when I sent ordinary letters, written with pen/ink, and with a stamp on it.

Marilyn

Sorry this is so long but so good.

"Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and He saveth them out of their distresses. He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions" (Psalms 107:17-20). This is proof that men bring sickness upon themselves because of their sins (v 17).

"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [made a fool of]; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" (Gal. 6:7). A person who sows in corruption reaps corruption.

The word afflicted means anything causing pain, distress or calamity. It can refer to sickness, as in these verses, but does not limit itself to that. In these verses the psalmist gives us a picture of men so desperately sick that they have lost all appetite for food and are right at death's door. Finally they cry out to the Lord for healing and deliverance.

"Then you called out to God in your desperate condition and He got you out in the nick of time" (MB). God waits for us to call out and then He sends His Word and heals us and delivered us from our destruction. It is important to see that God doesn't answer prayers that are not prayed. He didn't send His Word until they got in a desperate enough condition that they called out to Him.

Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you" (Matthew 7:7). "Ask" is translated from the Greek word "aiteo" meaning to ask, to beg, to desire, or to require or demand. The idea here is to demand something that is due one because of family and redemptive rights. The first letters of ask, seek, and knock spell "ask". It is God's will that we ask and get what we want (Dake).

Many Christians of today are still the same way as those written about in today's text. They try every avenue for deliverance from their problems before they finally turn to God. Doesn't it make since to go to God first.

God is patient. He will be there when you're desperate enough to swallow your pride and ask. He is the answer to all your problems and distresses.

You will find His answer is the same today as it was then: "He sent His Word and healed them and delivered them." That's because it works.

Isaiah 55:11 goes with this verse, "So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void [empty, vacant, invalid, null, not binding], but it shall accomplish what I please; and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." Psalm 107:20 says that God sent His Word to heal and deliver; in Isaiah 55:11 He says that His Word will accomplish the thing for which He sent it. Thus God guarantees that He will provide healing through His Word.

Insanity is when a person continues doing the same thing; but this time he expects a different result...Joe B...The Exodus Foundation, Inc.

Jane, I DID notice and was so glad to see you know "It Took A Miracle." That's one of my all-time favorites. Our choir director and I used to sing it as a duet. Let's see - if we can put it in the right pitch, could we harmonize??? ;)

Y'all have a good evening.

Good evening folks.   We are just home from a swim to cool off and wash our hair.  We are still having well problems.  We have consulted an "expert" and are taking his advice.  A submersible pump will be the ticket according to the "expert"  Well can do little harm to anything except the pocket book.

Anyone know the definition of an expert?

A drip under preasure! ! !

With that I will close.

Love to all

This computer of mine is "driving me batty"....or whatever.  It refuses to let me "find" previous posts., so therefore, I can't comment on much that you have said. (hope you understand what I'm trying to say...lol)

Marilyn:  cute picture in your red hat.  I missed our final "Red Hatters Meeting" for the season., I just had too much "on my plate" as the saying goes.

I haven't got a lot to say, other than yesterday was the first Sunday in the new church.  Most are VERY excited.,-- to me, it seems that its all about "numbers".  I shouldn't feel that way, should I!  I'm not keen about being in a church that is so big.  Our membership exceeds 300 now, and it seems that "they" are aiming for 400, then it will just get higher and higher.

Hope all you Dads had a wonderful day yesterday.  Norm heard from our two kids, so I was glad of that!
